Pokémon GO Gym Update Rolls Out, Brings New Hacking Penalties

A much-anticipated update to Pokémon GO is rolling out across iTunes and Google Play which includes re-designed gyms and an all new badge system, but those trying to illicitly catch Pokémon may be less than pleased. Posted to Reddit by A Niantic staff member, the game’s developer has a new plan to combat use of third-party programs in order to keep gameplay fair.

With the announcement of Raid Battles and the new battle features, we are staying true on our commitment to ensuring that Pokémon GO continues to be a fun and fair experience for all Trainers. Starting today, Pokémon caught using third-party services that circumvent normal gameplay will appear marked with a slash in the inventory and may not behave as expected. We are humbled by the excitement for all the new features we announced yesterday.This is one small part of our continued commitment to maintaining the integrity of our community and delivering an amazing Pokémon GO experience.

While short on details, it certainly seems like a step in the right direction to make the game more fair for players who spend time exploring he real world to catch Pokémon.

In addition, the Fire &a Ice Solstice Event has been extended by 24 hours!

  5. Nrrrgghgghhhh i got a sudden craving for Platinum the only problem Pokemon roms are scarce these days and i don’t trust most sites to give me a safe reliable rom and emulator and i can’t shell out 50 bucks to buy a spare copy on Amazon

    • People are reading this the wrong way. I think he’s saying that they’ll show more of Metroid in 2018, while Yoshi and Kirby will actually release that year. Then he kind of throws Pokemon at the end of the list as a game that’s been announced but releases in 2019. I hope I’m wrong about this.

      • Idk about that. He explicitly says Prime is coming next year (iirc) and I think if he meant that they’ll just show the games off then he would have just said so. He doesn’t have to be criptic to say they’ll show trailers of games next year. That’s a given.

        • I actually changed my mind completely. It does sound like Metroid is definitely a 2018 title, but Pokémon is probably still more likely for 2019 if it’s a new generation. For some reason I’m still not 100% sold that this is the next mainline game, since they haven’t explicitly said it, but it’s pretty darn likely. It’s all very confusing right now.

    • I highly doubt metroid and Pokemon are going to be 2018. I mean we have only heard that the games are in development and haven’t seen anything of them. Surely if metroid was 2018 we would at least see a small trailer?

    • Why wouldn’t it? I mean, if it is a SM fifth version it will certainly be 2018. If it’s a new gen it will most certainly be 2019, though.

  21. I had the biggest scare I didn’t realize Team Plasma was using Bide and kept hitting with Thundershock and when it attacked back I though Storm was dead and started to become horrified. Till I saw it survived with 5HP left I was so relieved

  22. THE NINTENDO WORLD STORE IS FREAKING AWESOME.

    They had a huge screen and people were playing Arms. Everyone wanted to be Twintelle no joke.

    I wanted to buy that whole store.
