Switch Presentation Recap

With the conclusion of the Nintendo Switch Presentation, we have a whole slew of new information to share about the Nintendo Switch, including its release date, features, as well as some titles launching throughout the year.

Release Date and Price
The Nintendo Switch is set to launch March 3, 2017 for $300. This includes the main console, a pair of Joy-Con controllers, a grip, wrist straps, a Nintendo Switch dock, an HDMI cable, and an AC adapter. Two versions will launch, one with gray Joy-Cons and one with neon blue/red Joy-Cons.

The Joy-Cons
The presentation highlighted some interesting and unique functionalities for the Switch controllers. As we know, they can be popped off the side of the Switch and can be used to play two-player games. Each Joy-Con is characterized by a joystick, four face buttons, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, as well as small L/R shoulder buttons. The right Joy-Con has an AR camera that detects distance, as well as an NFC reader for Amiibo figures. The left Joy-Con has some different features, having the ability to capture screenshots. Both the left and right Joy-Con have a unique vibration feature called “HD Rumble.” A demonstration performed by Nintendo’s Yoshiaki Koizumi claims that the Joy-Con can feel as though you are holding a cup of ice, with the addition of each cube making it heavier and heavier. It will be a neat element to play around with, for sure.

Specs
Nintendo officially confirmed that the Switch has a 6.2-inch 720p screen that can be used for on-the-go play. The Switch has a default 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded, alongside two speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a slot on the top right for game cartridges. The Switch is reported to last anywhere between 2.5 to 6 hours, but can also be utilized while it is charging. Additionally, there will be no more region lock.

Accessories
Aside from what comes in the box, you will be able to purchase additional pairs of Joy-Cons for $79.99 and the Pro Controller for $69.99. A set of racing wheels and a Switch Dock Set can also be purchased for $14.99 and $89.99, respectively.

Online Service
Similar to other major consoles, the Switch is introducing a paid service that will start as a free trial at launch. The subscription includes online play, dedicated lobby and voice chat functionality, a monthly game download (NES or SNES), and additional exclusive deals. Price options were not discussed quite yet.

A whole slew of titles were shown off for the Switch, some of which include:

  1. If you guys were a Pokémon professor, what do you study and what Pokémon do you give to new trainers?

    Rules:

    1) The three starters must have the same evo method (different levels, stones, times are okay tho)
    2) They must create a type triangle with the types (even if it’s their dual types that make the triangle)
    3) The Pokémon have to be pre-existing, unevolved, and non-legendary/UB

  2. GUYS WHAT IF I MADE YOU ALL THE ELITE FOUR?

    – A team of 5 pokemon only. Fully evolved. Gens 1-3
    – Name
    – Sprite you want to use (from the list below)

    – Trainer win text (optional)
    – Post-battle text (optional)

  3. Another question (NO FANMADE POKÉMON</B)

You're a dual type Gym Leader, what two TMs (one per type) do you give out, what Pokémon do you use (3 for Gyms 1-5, 4 for 56-7 and 5 for 8), what number are you, and what's your rematch team?

Z-Crystals can he used for all positions, Megas are reserved for Gyms 5+

  4. Basically what I was trying to ask

You’re a dual type Gym Leader. Your ace must be of both types (no Fan made Pokémon). You hand out two TMs, one per type. You also hand out a badge with a hybrid theme. You can have three Pokémon and a type (no individual Pokémon) Z-Crystal if you’re leader 1-5 (five can also have a Mega Stone as well as a Crystal), leaders 6&7 can have everything leaders 1-5 have plus an extra Pokémon, and 8 has all this plus one more Pokémon. What types do you specialise in? Also, you can put down a rematch team if you want, with six Pokémon, any non-legendary Z-Crystal, and a Mega Stone.

(TMs can be any existing move, but no fan moves)

No legends if it isn’t obvious, no UBs either.

  7. I hate to be so negative, but I can’t get myself to be excited for the Switch. I never liked home consoles for the simple fact that they’re too expensive for me to invest in, and I’m not enough of a gamer for it to be worth such an investment. All I really play is Pokemon, and it seems the Switch will be limiting the core of the franchise by limiting internet connectivity. I hope things turn out better than they seem now, but I’m very disappointed in Nintendo.

    • I actually agree with the pokemon part. If Stars becomes switch only I will be really disappointed. Pokemon has always been a portable get together with family and friends game. If it does become On home console all of that will be destroyed. I believe Stars will be Portable AND home console. At least I hope

      • I don’t want to as sound like an ass, but the switch is still portable. Like, not pocket sized, but you can carry it around.

Internets kind of a concern but it’s a necessary evil: Pokémon isn’t Nintendos only franchise, they have to consider 3rd party devs and their own devs

Maybe Pokémon can get free Internet or some BS like that tho?

  8. Tbh my biggest concern with the switch and Pokémon is how the franchise is going to cope with single screen

Like holy fuck with being able to make menus and stuff translucent and stuff it should be easy but GF could fuck it up so bad

  9. Mini annoyance in sm:
They make it obvious that someone needs to show you the z poses, yet you still get Z crystals like the flying one without anyone showing you the pose. They should have made them in game events.

  10. Totally off topic but @starstorm295:disqus you might appreciate this!
    One of my friends invited me to go to a gymnastics match on campus, so I did. Afterwards we got dinner and went back to my dorm. Stayed up until like 4 am just talking, then went to bed together. Woke up the next morning and literally cuddled from when we woke up (10:00ish maybe?) until now ;~;
    Hooray for genuine human connection!

          • Honestly though I wouldn’t put it past them to make this a big crazy scheme. Like at first(the first six months) they go along with this policy; but the moment that money gets involved they claim that they heard the concern from people and are changing their policy, releasing 10 games every month on the VC and give away 3 of THEIR Favorites every month. In reality those favorites either amount to the cheapest ones, or are ones meant to bait you into buying more. Like imagine getting the first super mario bros free, but then saying you’ll need to buy 2&3 yourself. A system like this could work, and I wouldn’t put it past Nintendo since what little money they would lose would more then be made up by holding off the big games people actually want.

          • Ehh…It would be a hard call. I would see smaller games or one’s they don’t suspect to sell well. Like a potential first lineup could be something like balloon fight, or small games like that, with some classic that they would sell for like 5 dollars, but be just good enough to remind you of better games. Like the first Zelda, the first Mario, Metroid, ect.

  11. Damn damn damn damn
I thought i was being swagging clever saving the game when i had two 7s lined up but i freaking can’t get the third one and i reset it like 40 times
