Switch Presentation Recap

With the conclusion of the Nintendo Switch Presentation, we have a whole slew of new information to share about the Nintendo Switch, including its release date, features, as well as some titles launching throughout the year.

Release Date and Price
The Nintendo Switch is set to launch March 3, 2017 for $300. This includes the main console, a pair of Joy-Con controllers, a grip, wrist straps, a Nintendo Switch dock, an HDMI cable, and an AC adapter. Two versions will launch, one with gray Joy-Cons and one with neon blue/red Joy-Cons.

The Joy-Cons
The presentation highlighted some interesting and unique functionalities for the Switch controllers. As we know, they can be popped off the side of the Switch and can be used to play two-player games. Each Joy-Con is characterized by a joystick, four face buttons, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, as well as small L/R shoulder buttons. The right Joy-Con has an AR camera that detects distance, as well as an NFC reader for Amiibo figures. The left Joy-Con has some different features, having the ability to capture screenshots. Both the left and right Joy-Con have a unique vibration feature called “HD Rumble.” A demonstration performed by Nintendo’s Yoshiaki Koizumi claims that the Joy-Con can feel as though you are holding a cup of ice, with the addition of each cube making it heavier and heavier. It will be a neat element to play around with, for sure.

Specs
Nintendo officially confirmed that the Switch has a 6.2-inch 720p screen that can be used for on-the-go play. The Switch has a default 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded, alongside two speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a slot on the top right for game cartridges. The Switch is reported to last anywhere between 2.5 to 6 hours, but can also be utilized while it is charging. Additionally, there will be no more region lock.

Accessories
Aside from what comes in the box, you will be able to purchase additional pairs of Joy-Cons for $79.99 and the Pro Controller for $69.99. A set of racing wheels and a Switch Dock Set can also be purchased for $14.99 and $89.99, respectively.

Online Service
Similar to other major consoles, the Switch is introducing a paid service that will start as a free trial at launch. The subscription includes online play, dedicated lobby and voice chat functionality, a monthly game download (NES or SNES), and additional exclusive deals. Price options were not discussed quite yet.

    • The tone of her crying is so different in so many different languages that the scene might have a different impact in places, like in the japanese dub she’s crying loudly and furiously implying that she’s probably hysterical, but in the english one she cries like someone who has spent to long fighting and has no energy left to cry anymore, just muffled sobs from her broken heart or something.

        • I have needed more new zelda since the moment I finished Skyward Sword, and I cried in that game (so many emotions)…. BoTW is going to kill me. I am going to be dead from all the emotions, the trailer alone had me tearing up.

Zelda doesn’t get this design in smash
Zelda series STILL doesn’t get a new smash character
      Zelda stays bottom tier
      Toon link returns
      Zelda moveset stays the same

  1. Okay so I have absolutely no authority to say this (because I’m a hypocrite) but maybe if he who must not be named comes back, then we should just flag him and move on. I was scrolling through the recent comments (like a creep) and I feel like we’re just provoking him now. It was fun at first, but we all want him to go away, and trying to have a conversation and reacting is just encouraging him to continue.

  3. Unsurprisingly, the BotW’s frame drops still pertain in the Switch version of the game. Albeit noticeably less severe than its Wii U counterpart.

    • Metroid please

Mother ended on a good note, Metroid has never recovered from Other M(aybe a better game will come out some day)

      • The fact that there will never be an official Mother 4 hurts me. Its okay though. Better to have a satisfying ending then to have a bunch of games that lose the magic over time.

I really want a return to the Super Metroid type gameplay

        • At least the fan game Mother 4 still exists for people who want it. And honestly while I’m not a fan of mother really, its probably for the best that another game isn’t made given Itoi’s(I think that’s how you spell his name) views on gaming.

          Reply
          • Generally he’s openly said he really isn’t the biggest fan of gaming and made mother more so because it was the best format to tell the story that he wanted to at the time. If he was a proper dev he has no doubt that he would probably be working on Mother 8 by now, but since he’s not and really doesn’t care much for gaming he’s fine leaving the series as is and leaving it to anyone else to pick up the mother torch in the future if the people truly want another game. Something like that.

    • I kinda want to do some kinda Zelda Fan drawing
      My personal Goron Hero Gorgorko
And a Female Goron who has the hots for Link but she’s kinda….big and intense, Gorra

  4. I just noticed something zelda fans. You know the official breath of the wild art we have been getting with the streaky backgrounds behind the characters. So far all of them have been turned into amiibos in that same pose with the exception of the Goron and the Zora, maybe they will be getting amiibos too? Just a thought but I thought it was weird to be that consistent so far

  5. While I’m not a Zelda fan in any way, the new installment really looks breathtaking (no pun intended) from all of the trailers and small teasers I’ve seen. I picked up Windwaker and Majora’s Mask but lost interest in both fairly quickly. BotW won’t be the sole reason I get the Switch, but it would be, at this point, the ONLY reason to get it on March 3rd.

    Buy or wait?

  6. I have a feeling that Adventure Games are going to thrive on the Switch. Like, old school PC, monkey island kind of adventure games. Imagine all the puzzles you can do with HD rumble, motion controls, etc

  7. So i’m gonna start Pokemon Red now so i’m trying to figure what to catch….i’m only picking Charmander so not changing that
and the early stuff is sooooooo limited and i am genetically incapable of not catching a NidoranM and evolving it after the Cascade Badge
