Switch Presentation Recap

With the conclusion of the Nintendo Switch Presentation, we have a whole slew of new information to share about the Nintendo Switch, including its release date, features, as well as some titles launching throughout the year.

Release Date and Price
The Nintendo Switch is set to launch March 3, 2017 for $300. This includes the main console, a pair of Joy-Con controllers, a grip, wrist straps, a Nintendo Switch dock, an HDMI cable, and an AC adapter. Two versions will launch, one with gray Joy-Cons and one with neon blue/red Joy-Cons.

The Joy-Cons
The presentation highlighted some interesting and unique functionalities for the Switch controllers. As we know, they can be popped off the side of the Switch and can be used to play two-player games. Each Joy-Con is characterized by a joystick, four face buttons, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, as well as small L/R shoulder buttons. The right Joy-Con has an AR camera that detects distance, as well as an NFC reader for Amiibo figures. The left Joy-Con has some different features, having the ability to capture screenshots. Both the left and right Joy-Con have a unique vibration feature called “HD Rumble.” A demonstration performed by Nintendo’s Yoshiaki Koizumi claims that the Joy-Con can feel as though you are holding a cup of ice, with the addition of each cube making it heavier and heavier. It will be a neat element to play around with, for sure.

Specs
Nintendo officially confirmed that the Switch has a 6.2-inch 720p screen that can be used for on-the-go play. The Switch has a default 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded, alongside two speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a slot on the top right for game cartridges. The Switch is reported to last anywhere between 2.5 to 6 hours, but can also be utilized while it is charging. Additionally, there will be no more region lock.

Accessories
Aside from what comes in the box, you will be able to purchase additional pairs of Joy-Cons for $79.99 and the Pro Controller for $69.99. A set of racing wheels and a Switch Dock Set can also be purchased for $14.99 and $89.99, respectively.

Online Service
Similar to other major consoles, the Switch is introducing a paid service that will start as a free trial at launch. The subscription includes online play, dedicated lobby and voice chat functionality, a monthly game download (NES or SNES), and additional exclusive deals. Price options were not discussed quite yet.

A whole slew of titles were shown off for the Switch, some of which include:

1-2-Switch (March 3rd)

  1. Ok i cracked and found a non-Masters edition on Best Buy HAPPY NOW BRAIN? There was one on ebay for 400 bucks but i’m not that desperate or stupid

but the thing that truly concerns me is my Pre-order for the Switch is STILL NOT SHOWING UP ON MY BEST BUY ORDER HISTORY
the stupid thing doesn’t even fucking have the stupid “type in your order number to see if its fucking there or not WHY IS EVERYTHING I DO A FUCKING ORDEAL

  2. Seriously tho. When are the 1-2 TB micro SDXC cards launching for consumers? I need that shit. Good thing I’m only getting Zelda at launch. Hopefully that’s smaller than 32 GB

  3. Very happy that MK8D is what it is. It had literally perfect controls. I’ll be more than happy to double dip on that given all the extra content.

  4. Anyone know if the neon Switch and those separate Joy-Cons ever went up on Amazon? They were unavailable last night and they’re unavailable now.

      • You are telling the absolute WORST person to not sweat over this stuff
how come it only shows up on my iPad and occasionally say order status not available
        YET
When i officially made an account (because prior to buying i used a guest account to place the order)
it doesn’t show order history now when i made an account, YET shows my Zelda Pre-order details?
What can i do to tell me the order is placed and active and actually on track

          • i can’t do these things over the phone, i need to talk to a physical person
And I CANT DO SO bEcAUSE all the cars at my house are either used or going to be used

now its saying when i go to the site it saying add to cart
            WTF
So did i not actually get a pre-order in or was that just a pre-order for a pre-order

and i don’t want to just purchase it again at the risk of actually buying it twice, This is why Amazon should just have infinite pre-orders of everything

          • I just don’t want to find out my pre-order isn’t real and when i go pick it up the day of release they don’t have it, sell out or fucking don’t recognize my order number i was smart to save a snapshot of my order number aqnd confirmation but I need a Best Buy geek to look at it and confirm all this craziness

i am losing what tiny shred of my sanity that still lingers

    • Better question: when am I not hyped for E3? I really wanna hear more about Xenoblade 2, and the new game announcements are always welcome. Do you think there will be a small direct inbetween? I know they have been light on the info recently, but a January-June gap is kinda big.

    • It’s pretty easy now to guess what will be there, considering what they showed off today (from a list of many possibilities). At the same time, I bet we will get some craaaaazy stuff relating to their official announcements and complete surprises as well.

    • Gamefreak always does their own thing with reveals. Given that the Switch comes out in March, I think they’ll probably announce it in April or May.

    • Dude we just got Pokemon Sun and Moon LITERALLY less than three months ago, do you HONESTLY think they would just shell out the next installment this freaking early

and Stars may i remind everyone is 110% Speculation without a single ounce of proof whatsoever other than the collective buzzwords circulating and stagnating the feeble and weak minds of gullible greedy fans

  5. So what’s the deal with the pre-orders right now? Sold out everywhere? All I know is the Switch was still available on Amazon before I went to sleep about 5 hours ago, now it’s gone. I’m curious to know what went down.

  6. Ok after getting a reasonable nights sleep here are my thoughts.I think the presentation over all was very well done. It not only got vital information out at a decent pace, but was interesting and enjoyable the entire time. It definitely did it’s job as far as hyping people up about te Switch. I have no idea where or who these people are that are complaining about it all, but I will say their expectations were in the wrong place. Nintendo isn’t going to show off everything they have for a pre launch presentation. I got my Switch pre ordered at Best buy the moment I could and I’m glad I did. I’d rather spend $300 now than have the Switch disappear and have to wait for it lol

    • I’d say ti probably doesn’t matter. What matter is if you have the consoles to play it. If you don’t have a New 3DS then Wii. If you do then maybe 3DS? I haven’t played it on the 3DS so I can’t say for sure. At leas the 3DS gives you mobility.

  7. Ugh……..Now I’m gonna have to look at the Best Buy email in my inbox for a month and a half knowing that I can’t pick up the Switch yet…….

  8. Can I just say how AMAZING that BotW trailer was??? The story seems to be so emotional this time, and I’m in love with it!
Also it’s very interesting how many different races appear. There’s Koroks, Zora, Rito, and more! What’s really peculiar is that the Rito supposedly evolved from the Zora, so why would they both be in the game at the same time?

  9. I wonder what will happen with Pokemon. Paid online? I gotta pay just to trade. (Personally tho, I’ll gladly pay for online if it means the servers are actually good for a change for games like Smash). And like I felt when the Switch was first announced, how is this going to impact families with more than 1 kid? Gotta dish out $300 for everyone’s own system so they can play their Pokemon game? I mean I guess it’s only $50 more than what the 3DS was, but still.

    • Hmm I can’t see how to solve the cost problem, guess they gotta share and hopefully they don’t drop the unit. Or parents only force them to use it on the TV only. With that setup, they can use one Nintendo Network account with paid online to allow everyone to trade…

    • I imagine there will be base online feature that are free. It’ll things more like PSN and Xbox live that you’d have to pay for.

  10. I’ll buy the Switch in April alongside Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. That looks like everything I’ve wanted in a Mario Kart game. Huge roster, amazing tracks, and an actual Battle Mode <3

    • It’s sad that launch is kinda poor, but at least by summer I’ll have MK8D (omg 8D), splatoon 2, and BotW. I’m not personally sad, I guess, because BotW will keep me super busy for a while, but I’m concerned about sales.
