Switch Presentation Recap

With the conclusion of the Nintendo Switch Presentation, we have a whole slew of new information to share about the Nintendo Switch, including its release date, features, as well as some titles launching throughout the year.

Release Date and Price
The Nintendo Switch is set to launch March 3, 2017 for $300. This includes the main console, a pair of Joy-Con controllers, a grip, wrist straps, a Nintendo Switch dock, an HDMI cable, and an AC adapter. Two versions will launch, one with gray Joy-Cons and one with neon blue/red Joy-Cons.

The Joy-Cons
The presentation highlighted some interesting and unique functionalities for the Switch controllers. As we know, they can be popped off the side of the Switch and can be used to play two-player games. Each Joy-Con is characterized by a joystick, four face buttons, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, as well as small L/R shoulder buttons. The right Joy-Con has an AR camera that detects distance, as well as an NFC reader for Amiibo figures. The left Joy-Con has some different features, having the ability to capture screenshots. Both the left and right Joy-Con have a unique vibration feature called “HD Rumble.” A demonstration performed by Nintendo’s Yoshiaki Koizumi claims that the Joy-Con can feel as though you are holding a cup of ice, with the addition of each cube making it heavier and heavier. It will be a neat element to play around with, for sure.

Specs
Nintendo officially confirmed that the Switch has a 6.2-inch 720p screen that can be used for on-the-go play. The Switch has a default 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded, alongside two speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a slot on the top right for game cartridges. The Switch is reported to last anywhere between 2.5 to 6 hours, but can also be utilized while it is charging. Additionally, there will be no more region lock.

Accessories
Aside from what comes in the box, you will be able to purchase additional pairs of Joy-Cons for $79.99 and the Pro Controller for $69.99. A set of racing wheels and a Switch Dock Set can also be purchased for $14.99 and $89.99, respectively.

Online Service
Similar to other major consoles, the Switch is introducing a paid service that will start as a free trial at launch. The subscription includes online play, dedicated lobby and voice chat functionality, a monthly game download (NES or SNES), and additional exclusive deals. Price options were not discussed quite yet.

A whole slew of titles were shown off for the Switch, some of which include:

1-2-Switch (March 3rd)

      • I doubt it. The online services on the system did not seem promising…
(P.S. – Hi Dicie…sorry about what happened in December. I tried getting a hold of you that I have turned over a new leaf. I even tried telling you that I have admitted what I did wrong. I just had trouble understanding their warnings and I have said a bad choice of words. Can you unban my IP address, please? I promise that I won’t do it again…I just have a bit of autism. I have not gotten a reply from you since I last tried contacting you…)

  1. I know a number of fans actually dreaded the Wii years, but to me that was when Nintendo really knew what they wanted to do with their games and products and image. This really feels like a return to that form and it makes me so happy. Bring on the fun!

    • I am with you my friend. Please just give me some fun, fan favorites, like Doga, Joshua, Tiki, maybe even Hector. The roster is freaking massive and honestly they could probably just paste the fighting styles of Dynasty warriors and Samurai Warriors to make as many characters as possible.

  2. Ok if anyone pre-ordered from Best Buy please try to view order status
It’s saying currently not available and that frightens me severely

  3. This hype really hit me somewhere deep, guys. I just can’t stop thinking about it and how relentless I’ll be when trying to get my friends to buy one. I couldn’t be a happier person at this moment.

  4. Alright,…trying to sleep hopefully in the morning the Best Buy servers or whatever process the waves of Pre-Orders and my account updates the right way and displays my Pre-Order…..
To think two hours ago I was happy and drooling only to be reduced to a hyper anxious puddle all because I’m trying to view a order that problem is going through THOUSANDS of requests

If it doesn’t update soon I’ll go to Best Buy in person

      • Appreciated man, that’s what I’m going for. I realized that I could just buy a set of gray ones down the road if I wanted to. And if I was really crazy and wanted to complete the “collection”, it would cost me 80 more dollars if I got the gray one. I’m never going to do that though.

  5. Happy to say that I have a Switch pre-ordered with my name on it! I see that the Master and Special Editions of BOTW sold out right under my nose though, which sucks. Either way, what a magical night this has been. I’ll give my full thoughts tomorrow afternoon (while also catching up on the entire Treehouse stream). Good night, and happy gaming everyone!

    • Wait-nevermind, I think I will. Either that or pre-order later. Anyways, what’s everyone’s top 3 hyped games? Now with some AWESOME games, I can kick my 2DS out the window (not really but I’m no longer anti-Switch!) My top 3 games are:

      1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe!!!!!!

      2. Super Mario Odyssey (LIKE GALAXY EXCEPT EVEN MORE HD)

      3. Splatoon 2

  9. I’m really excited for the Nintendo Switch since I haven’t played one of their consoles since the Wii this will be a great place to jump back in. The only games that really stuck out to me though are Zelda Botw and Super Mario Odyssey but I’m sure that further in the year they’ll have better games coming out. Definitely going to pre-order the Switch .
