Switch Presentation Recap

With the conclusion of the Nintendo Switch Presentation, we have a whole slew of new information to share about the Nintendo Switch, including its release date, features, as well as some titles launching throughout the year.

Release Date and Price
The Nintendo Switch is set to launch March 3, 2017 for $300. This includes the main console, a pair of Joy-Con controllers, a grip, wrist straps, a Nintendo Switch dock, an HDMI cable, and an AC adapter. Two versions will launch, one with gray Joy-Cons and one with neon blue/red Joy-Cons.

The Joy-Cons
The presentation highlighted some interesting and unique functionalities for the Switch controllers. As we know, they can be popped off the side of the Switch and can be used to play two-player games. Each Joy-Con is characterized by a joystick, four face buttons, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, as well as small L/R shoulder buttons. The right Joy-Con has an AR camera that detects distance, as well as an NFC reader for Amiibo figures. The left Joy-Con has some different features, having the ability to capture screenshots. Both the left and right Joy-Con have a unique vibration feature called “HD Rumble.” A demonstration performed by Nintendo’s Yoshiaki Koizumi claims that the Joy-Con can feel as though you are holding a cup of ice, with the addition of each cube making it heavier and heavier. It will be a neat element to play around with, for sure.

Specs
Nintendo officially confirmed that the Switch has a 6.2-inch 720p screen that can be used for on-the-go play. The Switch has a default 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded, alongside two speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a slot on the top right for game cartridges. The Switch is reported to last anywhere between 2.5 to 6 hours, but can also be utilized while it is charging. Additionally, there will be no more region lock.

Accessories
Aside from what comes in the box, you will be able to purchase additional pairs of Joy-Cons for $79.99 and the Pro Controller for $69.99. A set of racing wheels and a Switch Dock Set can also be purchased for $14.99 and $89.99, respectively.

Online Service
Similar to other major consoles, the Switch is introducing a paid service that will start as a free trial at launch. The subscription includes online play, dedicated lobby and voice chat functionality, a monthly game download (NES or SNES), and additional exclusive deals. Price options were not discussed quite yet.

A whole slew of titles were shown off for the Switch, some of which include:

    • That’s a really interesting and out there fish, much better than my Atlantic Salmon XD

I’d love to see how it’ll develop, and I might have a slight hunch for what type it’ll be?

      Reply
      • Nah an Atlantic Salmon sounds very cool!
Also, I am stuck on if it should evolve or not, but it might be the type you’re thinking of

        • Thanks, you’re too kind. It’s probably one of the most boring fish out there XD

I’m guessing yours will be Water/Dragon? A curveball wouldn’t be hugely surprising either due to how obvious it’d be

          Reply
          • For a regional fish, a Atlantic Salmon fits the roll.
And I guess it could be Water/Dragon, but maybe Water/Fairy as a curveball XD

  1. Monferno’s inspired me to post another Fakémon before I start studying

Name: Unsealin (Unseelie + Sea + Goblin)
    Species: Savage Pokémon
    Type: Dark/Fairy
Ability: Depth Dweller (This Pokémon is treated as if it’s also part Water-Type)
    Egg Group: Water 2

Description: Basically a Goblin Shark, but with a dull pink/purple colour. Its fins however look more like luminous fairy wings, and its teeth are black and exaggerated.

Acid: This Pokémon lives deep in the ocean. It uses its luminous fins to draw in prey, then sends its jaw forwards to finish it off.

Base: Unlike most Fairy-Types, this Pokémon doesn’t even attempt to play nice. It’s a violent predator that’s near impossible to tame.

Equilibrium: They’re often solitary, only meeting to breed. However, trained Unsealin, whilst aloof, do care for their allies.

  4. So for those who pre-ordered the Switch. Which version did ya’ll get? I got the Neon version. The colors are just too good for me to pass up lol

    Reply
      • I’ll agree the mismatched colors are a little annoying. The way I see it is if I really want to make it more symmetrical then I’ll buy the extra colored Joycons and that way I can have all blue or all red. lol

        • Fair enough, though personally I don’t have enough of a reason to do so yet. I might pick up a pro controller depending on how the regular joycons feel, but who knows. Really its kinda pleasant to hear that people are generally saying they feel really good, even in big hands(One person I know mentioning this being around 6’6″).

          Reply
          • Yeah I agree. When attached I don’t see the Joycons being all that uncomfortable, but I was worried that detached they’d feel too small. I’m not the biggest guy, but I wouldn’t want to feel like using them is a hassle lol I’ll probably get the Pro controller at some point. I can’t see fighting games and more involved games feeling super good on the Joycons. Some games just feel better with the right controller lol

          • Yeah it’ll really depend on the game more then anything. Though my statement was meant when using a single joycon as a controller for a game and people saying that despite being small, it actually does feel pretty good.

    • I would not get the Switch. They’re gonna start charging us for online multiplayer on that console. And the online chat does not sound promising…

      Reply
      • Um…..You realize that both Sony and Microsoft also charge for online right? Just because Nintendo hasn’t done it before doesn’t mean it’s not worth it. I will say they did a bad job selling it at the event, but it’s not like some weird price gouging that no one else does. Plus I’m sure there’ll be a base level amount of online connectivity. You don’t NEED to pay for their service in order to enjoy the Switch.

  5. For those who’ve played through the original Zelda, does the Second Quest always replace the first quest file once you’ve finished? I’ve been trying to 100% it but now I don’t know if it’s worth my time.

  6. Well I guess next on the list is Emerald…
    Buttttttt
    what to pick….
Torchic or Mudkip either is fine….

  7. One thing I would hope they quit even though they dont have to since the game was already hard, but Idk if you guys noticed, but many Elite 4/Gym Leaders/Trial Captains pokemon only had 2 or 3 moves. I think they do this to make the game easier, which is ok because SM were still hard. I just think it would be more realistic if they didnt just have 4 moves

  8. Ffs just completely abandoned in a game of comp overwatch (so it was 6v1) and they killed me both rounds when I was literally just emoting (and you don’t even need to kill to win)

Sorry it’s so off topic, just needed to rant

  9. is it me but i’m very concerned about the player character in sun and moon showing little to no emotion of anything interacting with the player like totem wishiwashi cutscene

    • I have to read a book by tomorrow lmao
Started today and I hate that I had to do this…I had so much work earlier that I had to put it off until today 🙁

    • No idea.
As for me, I’ve been playing shovel knight almost all day. I really sucked when I began the day but I feel like I’m pretty good at this point. I only need to beat propellor knight to get to the final level.

        • Him saying you need to bring your grades up and stop procrastinating on inviting people to my B-Day party (it was Dec. 29 but you know) or I lose all my electronics and have to join track 🙁

          Reply
          • Well forcing you to join something you don’t want to is pretty terrible parenting on his part.
Remember that your grades are part of your life. Parents want the best of their children and want to see them succeed, but fail to remember that some things are just hard for some people. Idk what grades you’re getting, but if it’s C’s and B’s, then you’re good. Always strive to do better, but a C is “average” and average is fine.
My parents were very excessive with their scolding, and basically required me to get all A’s. I know how you feel on that part.

          • Yeah I’m at the high end of C’s with 76 and 75% in two, but yet don’t look at my A in Animation, History, or English and say my grades are bad

The friends part to my party I am just a procrastinator on it and I will get to it… before the date by tomorrow I will send the messages out I already sent one, but no response back

  10. Quick Question:
If you were given the option to make an alternate Pokemon show focused mainly on the games, what would the setting be (like the region) and what would the main characters be like?

    Reply
      • Honestly every time I came back to play the game I was blown away by the amount of detail in the game. It’s 2D platforming perfection. Retro should be given 2D Mario so that we can get a revamp and move past the over used New style.

        Reply
        • Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure some Nintendo executive said that after Mario maker, 2D Mario as we know it was sorta over.

          Reply
          • Yea I think it’ll take some time before we see another 2D Mario, but we’ll still another one day no doubt. But I’m confident that they’ll finally evolve the experience again.

    • Congrats!

I can’t for the life of me beat the monkey boss, no matter how many hits I think I get, it just won’t die. :/

      Reply
      • Yea I remember that boss being a pain. This game is so good. It’s definitely worth your time to go back and beat the campaign. Getting the collectibles was a ton of fun too.
