Switch Presentation Recap

With the conclusion of the Nintendo Switch Presentation, we have a whole slew of new information to share about the Nintendo Switch, including its release date, features, as well as some titles launching throughout the year.

Release Date and Price
The Nintendo Switch is set to launch March 3, 2017 for $300. This includes the main console, a pair of Joy-Con controllers, a grip, wrist straps, a Nintendo Switch dock, an HDMI cable, and an AC adapter. Two versions will launch, one with gray Joy-Cons and one with neon blue/red Joy-Cons.

The Joy-Cons
The presentation highlighted some interesting and unique functionalities for the Switch controllers. As we know, they can be popped off the side of the Switch and can be used to play two-player games. Each Joy-Con is characterized by a joystick, four face buttons, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, as well as small L/R shoulder buttons. The right Joy-Con has an AR camera that detects distance, as well as an NFC reader for Amiibo figures. The left Joy-Con has some different features, having the ability to capture screenshots. Both the left and right Joy-Con have a unique vibration feature called “HD Rumble.” A demonstration performed by Nintendo’s Yoshiaki Koizumi claims that the Joy-Con can feel as though you are holding a cup of ice, with the addition of each cube making it heavier and heavier. It will be a neat element to play around with, for sure.

Specs
Nintendo officially confirmed that the Switch has a 6.2-inch 720p screen that can be used for on-the-go play. The Switch has a default 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded, alongside two speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a slot on the top right for game cartridges. The Switch is reported to last anywhere between 2.5 to 6 hours, but can also be utilized while it is charging. Additionally, there will be no more region lock.

Accessories
Aside from what comes in the box, you will be able to purchase additional pairs of Joy-Cons for $79.99 and the Pro Controller for $69.99. A set of racing wheels and a Switch Dock Set can also be purchased for $14.99 and $89.99, respectively.

Online Service
Similar to other major consoles, the Switch is introducing a paid service that will start as a free trial at launch. The subscription includes online play, dedicated lobby and voice chat functionality, a monthly game download (NES or SNES), and additional exclusive deals. Price options were not discussed quite yet.

A whole slew of titles were shown off for the Switch, some of which include:

  1. Before today, I had never passed the first second dungeon of the original Legend of Zelda. After 5 hours of playing today, I’m almost through the fifth dungeon. I’ve died over 120 times and I had urges to punch something.

    • Same, I’ve never passed the first important dungeon in a link to the past and never got to the first one on Majora’s mask T-T

  7. Simple question out of boredom

If Pokémon were real, what region and town would you be from and where would you realistically capture each of your Pokémon? (They have to of been from that region, or you travelled to another region)

    Reply
    • I would be from Alola and my hometown is Hau’oli City. I would catch my Pokemon from either Route 2 or Route 1 because you could find a Growlthe, Grubbin, or Pikipek.

      Reply
    • Celestic Town in Sinnoh my partner was found on a trip to Snowpoint city and is Sneasel and found my Aipom in trees near my house

      Reply
    • Unova – Humilau city
My mons would be a Mienshao(Captured as a mienfoo in route 22) and a Mantine (Captured as a mantike in route 21)

      Reply
    • I’d start off in Castelia City and have a Roserade (from that forrest near Nimbasa), a Darmanitan (from the desert), a Vaporeon (from the Garden), a Lopunny (from the garden, got its Mega stone when it was excavated in Twist Mountain as a reward from Clay), a Flygon (from the desert) and a Cofagrigus (from the castle)

  8. Continuing off of @symmetricaljesus:disqus’s comment, using the Town you started in, what gym order would you beat and where would you get each new Pokemon for your team on your journey?

    Reply
    • (all 3v3s)

Beat Burgh with my Darumaka, Buneary and Eevee (Buneary being my starter)
(Caught all three in and around Castelia before fighting Burgh, receiving Buneary as a gift)
Beat Elesa with my Trapinch, Buneary and Yamask)
(Caught Trapinch and Yamask when I got lost in the Desert Resort)
Beat Clay with my Roselia, Vibrava and Lopunny
(Caught Roselia when lost in the Lostlorn Forest)
Beat Skyla with my Vibrava, Yamask and Darmanitan
Beat Drayden with my Vibrava, Cofagrigus and Vaporeon
Beat Marlon with my Vaporeon, Roserade and Lopunny
Beat Roxie with my Roserade, Flygon and Darmanitan
Beat Cheren with my Cofagrigus, Vaporeon and Lopunny (Mega Lopunny vs Mega Audino)

      Reply
    • I’d head to Eterna city and fight her with the Sneasel I caught in Snowpoint , Aipom I caught in trees near my house and Hoothoot I caught on my way to there

Fantina with Sneasel, Aipom, and a Gastly that I captured inside the of the Haunted House

    • I’d say because doing so requires money. And where would that money come from? Taxes. And the rich (who tend to be more conservative, I believe), wouldn’t want to be taxed more.

      Reply
    • A lot of conservatives have a deep appreciation for the wilderness and the environment. If this is a question of fossil fuels they just don’t believe in banning efficient, cheap forms of energy nor believe that if climate change is a legitimate problem that it can be solved by simply attacking fossil fuels. Many believe that it’ll work itself out once green energy goes mainstream by becoming cost efficient. If this is a question of national parks and preserving those via government, many who are against that probably just view that as an over reach of government. Government was not created to make parks.

      Reply
      • I just got this just because of there being maniac people who think climate change doesn’t exist and to resign from the Paris agreement.

        Reply
        • I’m against any government regulation that does nothing but make energy more expensive for consumers. The Paris agreement isn’t going to stop Climate Change. lol

          Reply
    • A lot of them (and others from other political groups) don’t even believe in climate change/global warming so what do you expect?

      Reply
      • I hope only the people who deny climate change are affected, have people who acknowledge it and also try to help out survive any climate-change-esque disaster.

        Reply
      • I feel like a lot of them “believe” in climate change, but they don’t believe that we’re accelerating it. Hence the “the Earth warming and cooling is cyclical and natural therefore there’s no problem” idiotic argument many of them like to throw out. No shit, the problem is the rate. If you compare graphs obviously there’s something else going on.

        Reply
        • my problem is that at the very least, why not protect our earth? there are so many other reasons to do so and yet, people basically like to assert their ignorance and continue to be lazy about protecting it or stand behind big business companies that are polluting the air. Like really, even if you don’t believe in climate change, why not work to protect and conserve the earth anyways.
