RUMOR: 20 New Pokémon Added for Pokémon Stars

A week ago Laura Dale, a video game journalist, participated in a Reddit AMA (‘Ask Me Anything’) session for the Nintendo Switch in which she claimed that the Pokémon Sun and Moon follow-up, codenamed Pokémon Stars, could feature 20 new Pokémon.

This is notable as Dale has been involved in leaking other information about the Nintendo Switch which has been proven accurate. She mentions that another gaming writer (who unceremoniously announced Pokémon Stars on the release day of Sun & Moon) didn’t think the inclusion was likely.

Where this leaves us, the fans, isn’t known, but it does raise a question: will their be Nintendo Switch exclusive Pokémon? While we have always had new forms or event legendaries for titles within the same generation, content has never been locked away on a separate console. This could make some uncomfortable if they can’t catch ’em all without ponying up what is likely to be $300 for the Switch this spring.

A Nintendo Direct focusing on the new console is just a week away, so we could see the title announced with more details then.

  1. Hey below there was a comment asking about the source of recent switch rumors. What rumors were they talking about (I don’t want to miss any)?

  2. Stars (purely a codename) isn’t supposed to be discussed during the presentation next week but there is supposed to be between 20 to 30 new Pokémon that can be traded and exclusive to the platform and Pokémon that can’t be obtained in it. Among the new Pokémon are supposed to be new Alolan forms and some evolutions to Pokémon previously seen. (I’m hoping for a male Salazzle.)

          • i spent the last 3 months watching videos, u should use the reddit it has alot of rumors and stuff

          • I’ve been checking the Reddit occasionally as well. Even if none of the rumors are true, it’s still good to keep us busy. xD

          • Yeah, either one’s fine. I still have discord on my phone, so I don’t mind using that. But if we use chatango then more people could join in.

          • Ill make a switch chatango for the event so we dont flood the comments with “OH MY GOD”

          • Is this the Pokémon community nowadays, wait for one thing to come out and jump on the next hype train once it’s released.

          • That’s sorta always been me, at least. I’m still enjoying and playing SM, I haven’t just given it up, but a new console release is a huge deal.

          • I would say more gaming in general is like that the just pokemon. Hype things up, love it for a week, the complain that it wasn’t perfect and demand you get the next best thing soon or else.

          • The hype is part of the fun though, I wouldn’t say that it’s an issue (unless it’s like NMS, where the hype sorta killed the reception).

          • I didn’t even pick it up at all (mainly because I didn’t even know about all of the hype at that point).

          • Hype can be dangerous though given too much of it kills all expectations. Really imagine if in ten days if only half to the rumors turn out to be true. That pokemon stars isn’t real, or mother three isn’t coming, or heck the extreme being that the switch isn’t going to be the new handheld as well as a console and Nintendo actually meant what they said when its a homesonsole first. How many people do you think their would be saying Nintendo’s doomed now, I’m not buying this worthless brick, screw Nintendo and the like.

          • But you can blame people shouting into a vacuum on what they feel are the right choices for the company to make having no idea what’s actually going on behind the scenes and then acting like spoiled children that they didn’t get something that was never promised in the first place. Its why I say don’t act like something’s real until its proven real. Because if you get upset that something turns out to be a false rumor, you can’t get mad at anyone but yourself for believing it, but of course people will point their hatred at Nintendo.

          • That’s very true, but hype isn’t the same as thinking you know what’s best for the company. If they make the decisions you said earlier, people likely would have been just as mad if the rumors hadn’t existed at all.

          • But at the same time you can’t deny that Hype and this mindset do walk close to one another. Also while people would complain no matter what, a lot more people will complain because of the hype putting this idea in their head. Like you can’t really be disappointed if you expect nothing, but the moment you expect everything is the moment you set yourself up for disappointment, if that makes any sense. Like no matter what people will be disappointed with the switch in ten days. The Hype is too high at this point for it not to fall a bit. By how much simply amounts to what Nintendo does and who you ask.

          • I get where you’re coming from now. Not all are like that, but I’m sure that you’re right for a part of the fans. All I know for sure is that Nintendo really needs to pull through with this event, this will make all the difference.

          • I’m not saying you personally are, but I think we both know that their are people on the internet or real life who would proclaim that Nintendo’s doomed the moment they do anything different then what they think is the right choice.

          • yea i agree, but i have really high hopes for this system, u can tell obviously but i do think the cons at times too!

          • And I really hope that this system does well, but I really don’t know what Nintendo has planned for it which is why I’m concerned. This thing could be great, or it could be a massive failure as well. At the very least though I do feel like some portion of Nintendo’s market will not respond well to the switch and that might hurt it more then we would like to think.

  3. Ok, so usually in a Nintendo direct style presentation, Nintendo always has a “One last surprise” announcement at the end. What do you think that announcement will be on Switchmas?

  5. Because of their usual trend of surprising us with each next game, what if “Stars” is a prequel game set hundreds of years back? It’s a very unlikely theory, but it would be interesting to see

  8. This is like how Kurusu did their gym leaders, but does anyone want to be a part of the Elite Four for my region? If you do, just give the name of the character, the type specialist, and what type of room you want it to be like for the Elite Four member.

  9. Kinda saddened we are already talking about a new game when Im not even done with sm. That being said, i will be mad to have an exclusive main story game only for switch. Thats almost 500 dollars for 20 new pokemon. Thats an awful deal

        • That, and the cost only goes up when you factor in a pro controller, and additional add on’s, ect. Though Yeah I can’t see the switch being less then 300, and probably closer to 350 if I were a betting man.

    • Also it’s not like you’re paying 500 dollars for only 20 Pokemon, you’re also getting the new features and fixes of stars. Plus the ability to play the other switch games, which will likely be great.
