Mascot Pokémon Showdown: Generation V

Hello everybody, we’re bringing you another Mascot Pokémon Showdown. The winner of last time is Giratina with 56%!
Now it’s time for Unova. Generation V released in 2010 in Japan and in 2011 in the rest of the world. This time, the generation consisted of four games: Black, White, Black 2 and White 2, and introduced amazing features, such as seasons, triple and rotation battles and the Pokémon World Tournament

Pokémon Black Version

black_en_boxartPokémon Black featured Reshiram, the Vast White Pokémon. It is a Dragon/Fire Pokémon that contains almost entirely out of fluff. By flaring the enormous engine-like tail, it can move the atmosphere of the world, which changes the weather.

Reshiram is the only Pokëmon known to be able to learn Fusion Flare and Blue Flare. Together with Zekrom, they were first shown on the Japanese and English website on the same date, which makes them the first two to be revealed worldwide simultaneously. Its name comes from ‘shiro‘ (白, ‘white’) and ‘re‘, which is just a softer sound than ‘ze‘.

Pokémon White Version

Pokémon White showcased Zekrom, the Deep Black Pokémon, white_en_boxarton its cover. He has a Dragon/Electric-typing with small black wings coming from its shoulders. Like Reshiram, Zekrom has an engine-like tail, but this one produces lightning bolts.

Zekrom has the highest Attack, Defense, and base stat total of all Electric Pokémon. It’s Ken Sugimori’s favorite Pokémon of Generation V. Its name is a combination of ‘kuro‘ (黒, ‘black’) and ‘ze‘, which is just a harder sound than ‘re‘.

Pokémon Black 2 Version

black_2_en_boxartOn the case of Pokémon Black 2 is Black Kyurem, a combination of Kyurem and Zekrom. It keeps Zekrom‘s arms, but is much more muscular than it. Its left arm, wing and lower jaw are completely covered in ice.

Black Kyurem has the highest Attack stat of all Ice Pokémon, and together with White Kyurem, it has the highest base stat total of all Ice-type Pokémon. Despite being larger than before it fused, it’s actually lighter than Kyurem. Its name comes from ‘rei‘ (冷, ‘cold’),  ‘kyuurei‘ (急冷, ‘rapid cooling’) and ‘rei‘ (零, ‘zero’).

Pokémon White 2 Version

Unlike all other generations, this generation had 2 upgraded white_2_en_boxartversions instead of one. On the second version, Pokémon White 2, you can see White Kyurem on the cover. This is a fusion of Kyurem and Reshiram. Its right wing, head plume and upper jaw are frozen.

White Kyurem has the highest Special attack stat of all Ice-type Pokémon, and, as mentioned before, the highest base stat total of all of them. It’s also the tallest Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

  1. So I just realised that it isn’t just Terminus Cave and Resolution Cave that are similar.

Farthest Hollow has four ‘appendages’ (but three are shorter, one is much longer) and an elevated area opposite the entrance (but you can’t reach this elevation)

Really hope at least the two caves are zola in Stars

  4. Do y’all think I should try to soft-reset my Tapu Lele to obtain one with Hidden Power Fire or not? Also should I use a Synchro Timid or Synchro Modest Abra when trying to catch it?

  6. 44 hours and I’ve become the new Champion of Alola. Pokémon Moon is without a doubt the greatest experience I have had in 10 years of playing Pokémon, surpassing Black and White. The memorable characters, the amazing music, the significant challenge, the Island Challenge system, the extra modes, the awesome storyline, the feels, the lore, everything was almost flawless. Thank you to Gamefreak for a phenomenal title, one that gives me great hope for what is to come in future generations. <3

  8. SO, can I be that guy real quick and just say that Battle Royal is hands down the worst feature ever added to a pokemon game? I feared it be nothing but bulky pokemon spamming earthquake…and lo and behold, that’s exactly what it was. I got into a match last night and two opponents sent out swamperts while the third sent out hippowdon. One swampert mega evolved and then all three used earthquake indiscriminately, only stopping to use yawn. The battle reached its high point when all three had put each other to sleep and I was unable to take advantage of it since I brought a bug/fighting type who could defend, but could lay into any of them.

I finally beat the mode toady after trying countless times…only to get 2 BP.

Oh, and also? Both triple and Rotation battles are gone now, replaced with this stupid mode. Also the battle tree isn’t any better. Almost two decades in and Game Freak hasn’t realized the severe disadvantage players have in the battle towers from not knowing the opponents’ team in advance. Both Stadium games did it, and the challenge was very fair.

Then again, those games used actual balanced teams to oppose you rather than a sentient Skynet algorithm hell bent on wiping out humanity via frustration induced aneurysms.

          • Yea? I mean. It’s legitimately supposed to be that hard. It’s not a flaw in the design. It forces you to learn how to design a team that isn’t a one trick pony and how to play against teams you have disadvantages against. It is not any conceivable way supposed to be winnable with one’s ragtag playthrough team.

          • That’s not the point. What I’m saying is that the game memorizes what you do and, unless you pack like 15 sets of pokemon to make strategies with, it will learn and beat them all. I have multiple horror stories of this. Give me a sec, I’ll type up a few quickly…

          • Ok. Well other than a team I looked up that abused AI for Triple Battles, I won all 50 battles in all Super modes in the Maison by putting together teams with strong, bulkyish mons that didn’t share many/any weaknesses and have quality coverage. *shrug emoticon*

          • I can’t win the Multi battle because my partner is an idiot. What do I do then? What’s the point of a multi battle if I’m carrying all of the weight and my partner randomly decides to use Will O Wisp on me? Every other viable partner combo I get has earthquake, which they spam and KO my team.

This is not a good system.

          • 1: My Chansey, Gliscor, M-Kanga team. Relies on the first two using toxic and healing. A number of ways in, Taunt starts getting used against me so I switch to a completely different team of Suicune, Zapdos, and one other, can’t remember who.

Suicune is a sleep talker and Zapdos is bulky, after a while they start sending out faster, harder hitting guys. So I switch back to Team A and t game IMMEDIATELY goes back to the Taunt users in response.

            2: This (Isn’t me)
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXzu6mkwmFk

3: My Mat block greninja. Allows my triple battle team to set up, so they start sending out aerodactyls and things that out run him to make my unable to use the move properly or just outright stop attacking the first turn and spam thunder wave.

4: The game once lulled me into a false sense of security by sending out a bunch of grass types non stop as I was using Flamethrower. Then suddenly a Gogoat shows up with a -fire berry and rock slide to one shot my Noivern. It’s sole purpose was to kill that, because afterwards it put up no fight, but I still lost.

          • Everything your listing literally makes perfect sense. I don’t see how it’s unfair or too hard that they don’t just let you wipe the floor toxic stall teams. And why should the most challenging part of the game come at you with random ass teams with no synergy or strategy to beat your team?

          • As I said earlier, Stadium did it better. The teams there where tough and the challenge came from trying to figure out which of their pokemon where going to be used against you and plan accordingly. There’s always a cxhance to get it wrong and fail. Online fights use this exact same method.

Imagine going online and winning a fight and then the game immediately puts you into gauntlet mode where you can’t switch who you picked or what order they are in, but every new opponent sent at you gets to see your team data, watch your previous fight and plan accordingly.

Is that fair? Half the time, it feeling winning int the towers is way to luck based. As in, how many wins can I get before the game decides to put up a brick wall.

          • It’s not designed to be the same exact thing as online play. And I wouldn’t expect online play to work exactly like a battle facility. I personally like the way it utilizes teams that counter mine. Makes it harder. (Which is what everyone on here seems to want but I never hear of anyone playing the Maison/Tree) But you by no means have to get lucky or make 20 teams. I beat each one with 1 team. Sure I made other teams and they lost too consistently due to having a specific counter that would eventually pop up and end my run. But any time I did win, it was with the same team all 50 rounds in a row. And it was from learning how they were going to counter my team. And adjusting appropriately.

          • You know what, with all this ranting, memory is coming back to me now and I remember why I’m so bitter about this.

I did beat every mode in the Maison using relatively the same team, except for singles because we weren’t built to do that. THAT’S when I learned about the Chansey, Gliscor, M-Kanga team and put them to use. They beat the single in 1 attempt; even the boss, which was the easiest fight.

It’s the multi one that’s got me raging. I can’t beat it because, like I said, my partners are idiots and I have to plan around both them AND the enemy.

To this day, I still can’t get that final trophy and my game’s at like 99% because of it.

Now I’m mad about gen 7 because they got rid of triples and rotations, two modes that I found incredibly fun and strategic. In it’s place is the battle royal I complained about, which doesn’t plan against me in the same manner, just out right plays obnoxiously.

          • Have you looked up a YouTube team that has beaten XY Multi with an AI partner? That’s what I’d do at this point

          • Yeah, I’ll give that a try. It’s like, I want to finally finish the game. Caught everything in the national dex, bred 5IV guiys for my team, even got my shiny for that gen. I just…can’t beat this and it’s driving me crazy.

Anyway, I’ll check that out later, gonna go eat.

            Good talking with you.

  9. Everyone is finding shinies and I’m just sitting here trying to beat the game lol I’m stuck here. I wanna start properly shiny hunting, but I already have all/most of the mons needed to complete the dex up on the bank. do I wait or try and complete the dex while I don’t have them? I still need to ebat the league, but Shiny hunting is in my blood lol
