    • Was it ever expected there would be? Clearly the focus is Z-Moves. Although I kinda hoped Solrock and Lunatona would get a mega, just because it fits the whole theme

      Reply
      • I never thought there would be, but some people here did.

Aparently Solrock and Lunatone might not even be in the regional dex, but those might be false rumours.

        • I’m actually glad we dont even have access to Megas until after completion of the main game. Imagine having both Megas and Z-moves from the get go lol

          Reply
          • So far I prefer Z-moves to megas since
            A) Aside from the really specific ones, all pokemon can use Z moves
            B) They don’t involve really weird/lame form changes
            C) You can only use them once, for one turn only, not “once but they drag on for ages”.

    • Lol who even could have had any hope after the pathetic amount of pokémon/alolan forms we’re getting was revealed. Don’t rub it in, it’s too painful already :'(

      • I never thought there would be from the start.
I’ve been saying “no new megas” for at least a month, I’m just happy I can finally base my claim on evidence rather than foresight.

        • I haven’t had hope for a long time either, especially since pokémon-specific z-moves were announced, but honestly with the wasted mess GF have made of the Alolan form concept and the horrendous UBs, I’m starting to really miss good’ol megas, as much as I hated them on reveal.

          Reply
          • I still don’t like the megas, but I agree that the UBs are awful and they wasted the alolans.

There’s only a handful of the alolans that I actually like.

(At least we know why they kept alolan Persian a secret now.)

      • yeah, what this totally handsome dude who is in no way me that had to go onto firefox cuz disqus hates me, but he couldn’t sign in said.

        • It wasn’t ‘planned’ only ‘considered’.
“Sugimori: Flygon has had the potential to have a Mega Evolution since XY, but we were unable to complete a design and so it was dropped from consideration.”

    • Yeah I’m not the happiest with the news. but Oh well. He made a point at least to say game, and not generation, so I suppose its likely that the Sinnoh Remakes will make up for them, given their really isn’t much they can do with Z-moves once Sun and Moon are released. I really don’t see players saying a single powerful move is enough to replace standard hold items in competitive, and really it doesn’t seem likely that they’ll just keep creating new z-moves for specific pokemon.

  1. I’m kinda worried about these games to be honest. now, I know I shouldn’t rush to conclusions, but it worries me anyways. I feel these trials may not be in depth. playing the demo, taking photos of those pokemon wasn’t really fun. we know a trial will consist of collecting items… idk, am I the only one?

    Reply
    • I am with you on this. I felt a bit flat after playing the demo. The trial felt like a side quest in a way, and not substantial enough. I kept waiting for something more and went ‘is that it?’ after I beat the trial

      Reply
        • I know they were. But I thought just maybe because they replaced the gym system, it will be something a bit more substantial.
Or maybe also because I was forced to use Greninja and not one of new pokemon 😀

          Reply
          • yeah it was pretty much “Greninja destroys things instantly” the demo. I used Kukui’s Pikachu whenever I could. they shoulda gave us a starter and let us catch the wild pokemon, not like they could evolve anyway.

    • I’ve had that concern about trials from the moment they were announced. It seems most people didn’t realise what ‘colllecting items from the forest floor’ and ‘taking pictures of pokemon’ actually entails.

But at the same time, I’m hoping people will find them boring so it will make people realise gyms weren’t boring and they were never the issue.

I’ll admit though, having to fight the pokemon after taking pictures of
it make it more fun than just taking pictures, so the trials might turn out
better than expected. Totems are still pretty easy to beat though, beating that Hakamo-o was easier than beating a first gym.

      • I’m sure there will be interruptions, such as team skull bothering you during the trial. the only reason I’m not too worried is because a recent interview with gamexplain, they said the games will be packed full of content. honestly though, i’d forgive mediocre trials if they gave us a battle frontier.

        Reply
        • Team Skull are an annoying bunch of chavs though.

          Doesn’t specify what content though.
The festival plaza, pokepelago, pokemon finder etc all count as content too. The game could still be ‘full of content’ and still have really brief/boring trials.

We’re not getting a battle frontier.

          • Team Skull are an annoying bunch of chavs. The admins have a bit of character, the grunts are just lame though.

I’m serious about the battle frontier thing. At most we’ll get another battle maison.

There are plenty of things I like about the game, but there’s a lot more that I dislike.

          • ugh please not another maison/subway because they were the same thing… I wouldn’t even care if its a remake of a previous frontier. after so much complaining, they had to have changed SOMETHING, right? isn’t that why we have trials over gyms? people were sick of the same formula. I remember people complaining about the lack of post game content a lot…

          • I was happy with the gym formula, I never understood why people complained about it. I think they were projecting their hate of XY onto all gyms.

The only things I liked about the maison were
            A) Sit back, press buttons, no thinking
            B) Spend BP on cool items

Also I have no idea how Nintendo even check what people are complaining about. Dunno if they do proper polls or actually pay people to go around forums reading complaints.

        • Well, the demo actually reminded me of a gym with the exclusion of people. Most gyms are small, trivial puzzle rooms. I mean the demo trail was basically Gardenia’s gym all over again. Find the trainers before you can fight me sort of deal. It was seriously not that different from a gym. You guys just need to warm up to it a bit. 🙂

P.S. We need an updated Emarald Battle Frontier!

    • I feel that too, it didn’t really feel like a pokemon game while doing the first trial. It felt a bit too much gimmic-y like Yokai watch.. They really changed a lot from the previous games this time..

Hopefully I will still enjoy it (I probably will, but it needs some getting used to)

      Reply
      • I’m glad I’m not the only one who saw the Yokai Watch similarities.

I like the changes to the overworld but the trials are begining to look like the disappointment I was anticipating.

        Reply
      • I’m sure the games will still have battles that are climactic, but they may not be involved with the trials. I’m thinking guzma, aether foundation, ultra beasts, etc.

        Reply
    • It’s only the demo so I’m not too worried. I mean after all, it was a demo and Kukui isn’t a trial captain. So I doubt that’s how quick our trials will actually be. It seems like (according to the trailers and lots of people who played a good amount of the game) that many of the trials involve some interesting things. Collecting ingredients, calming a rainy Pokemon, etc.

Even if they are short don’t forget how much we might be getting thanks to all the types.

      Reply
      • its not how short they are, its what they consist of. Kiawe’s trial “watch 3 dances, spot the difference” or whatever. like, really? again, I don’t want to judge these preemptively, but still…

        Reply
        • Right. I’m sure they’ll be some that are pretty lackluster and some that are exhilarating. Just like some gyms of gym leaders are really memorable, some aren’t. also I have a feeling we might be able to battle them in the post game.

Speaking of post game. I feel like that will be really improved this time around. Game freak I think is pretty good at fixing things that they are critiqued for. Ex: hms removed, gyms replaced and fresh new take, seems like a good story (people didn’t seem to enjoy X and Y story), etc.

          • yeah that’s for sure, they are listening to complaints based on what we’ve seen. (inb4 pharap disagrees) lol jk pharap your a cool dude.

  3. I must say with all of these different elements (UB, the two teams, trials, z-moves, Lillie, new Pokemon) in sun and moon I COMPLETELY forgot about legendaries .
How are they even going to be integrated in the main story is confusing to me lol

    Reply
  4. do we know how z moves work? does the pokemon using the move need to hold the crystal? I should mention I didn’t pay attention to Pikachu’s held item during my trial.

  5. One of the worst things about the new games is removal of the d pad. I have been playing these games using the d-pad since 2007.
