[NEW] Pokémon Sun & Moon Demo Leaks New Pokémon & More

The article below contains spoilers for Pokémon Sun & Moon.

We have chosen not to publish any images obtained from the demo version and as such the information below is a text rundown of what has been uncovered. The comment section of this article will also contain spoilers.

The demo version of Pokémon Sun & Moon is currently live in some regions and some avid trainers have gotten to work uncovering everything the demo has to offer.

It seems that lessons haven’t been learned from Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire and the demo files contain information on some currently unannounced Pokémon and over information. It’s unknown if the demo contains files for all new Pokémon in the games, though at this point it seems almost definite.

Leaked Information

Alolan Forms

The demo contains files confirming the existence of many more Alolan Pokémon:

  • Geodude, Graveler and Golem
  • Diglett and Dugtrio
  • Persian

New Pokémon & Ultra Beasts

  • There are at least five new Ultra Beasts, bringing the total to 8
  • The leaked Starter Pokémon evolutions are real
  • Pikipek appears to evolve into a toucan Pokémon in it’s final stage
  • Crabrawler, Wimpod, Morelull and Salandit all receive evolutions
  • Solgaleo and Lunala both have a pre evolution/lesser form
  • A new Pokémon that appears to be based on an anchor
  • A new Pokémon and it’s evolution that were previously leaked by an Amazon listing for the upcoming Sun & Moon TCG expansion
  • Another two Pokémon evolution line that appears to be part Bug type
  • Marshadow is a real Pokémon, but doesn’t look anything like Solgaleo or Lunala
  • Magearna has a form that looks more like a traditional Poké Ball
  • Ash Pikachu is in the game and appears to be able to wear Ash’s hat from each region of the anime
  • [NEW] The Pokémon models found within the demo are only from Pokémon found in the Alola Pokédex

[NEW] Pokémon Moves

  • It seems there are a total of 719 moves in the games, by comparison Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire had 621
  • 3 of these new moves appear to be taught via TM
  • 29 of the new moves are Z-Moves (18 Z-Moves for each type and 11 special Z-Moves)
  • HMs no longer exist and are not available as a regular TM

[NEW] Items

  • There are 920 items present in the demo, 58 of which are related to Z-Moves
  • A new medicinal item similar to Lava Cookie that cures all
  • A new battle item with held effect (like Dire Hit)
  • At least 6 new holdable items with effects
  • A Key Item that is likely used to change Zygarde forms
  • 3 items that are used to change forms
  • Bikes and Travel Trunks (an unused key item) are not in the demo/games
  • The Strange Souvenir item data appears unchanged in the games
  • 1 new type of Poké Ball
    • It appears the new ball cannot be bought or sold

We will update with further details if and when they come.

REMEMBER: This information is currently unannounced and has been leaked from the demo. Please respect the wishes of others and mark your spoilers correctly.

  1. This is crazy. Of course, I kind of expected this sort of thing to happen the moment they announced the demo but still this revealed a hell of a lot more than I expected o.O

  2. Okay so ive skipped the leaked info up there to ask you guys how many new pokemon there are in total. Ive heard 82 but also 141 before sooo whats true?

  3. hi hi ~ first time poster here, but figured I could mention something teeny tiny with the demo, since I haven’t seen it anywhere else yet :’D Used a spoiler tag on it just in case.

My timezone is NZ on DST, so the DS just ticked over to the new day, and the first time-based reward from the guy sitting outside is 10 Pretty Wings. Seems to be a lot of money items we’re being given to transfer?

  4. I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe we know of around 60 of the 70 new Pokemon… Even in X/Y we only knew 50%. If we can say the same for Alola, that brings the number up to 120. Really! They revealed a good 85% of the whole ‘dex?! Something’s fishy.

    • Serebii’s webmaster’s twitter mentioned it might be suspicious that the Shiny folder for the game got leaked while EVERYTHING else important was Scrubbed… and that they might have done it on purpose… I had a… somewhat unlikely theory that all the pokemon and UB’s we got info for were all the things they were going to reveal before release, and that there was actually much more to come with the release of the game. But frankly thats just a theory. and i could be completely wrong. More specifically the theory was that they left in the Shiny forms for all the pokemon to be revealed before release.

  5. Hopefully we’ll still get more new pokemon, I’m still waiting for a good dark type. But if the pokedex is indeed complete, I wonder why they’re not creating more pokemon. I’m not asking for 151, but around 100 new + alolan forms would be perfect.

  6. – Weird spider is going on my team
    – Toucan not going on my team
    – Alien Kabutops going on my team
    – Arrowal (Arr-ow-al), Tsareena, Kommo-o, Lurantis, Spider, and Alien Kabutops

    • From what I understand, all story stuff and postgame content etc was scrubbed from the demo. So nothing like that was leaked.

      Reply
    • I think the rumor of that stems from the text “Kalos Region” being in the demo. However, it more likely points out to the caught/hatched origins of the Pokemon

  7. I honestly don’t have much addition to my team
Wimpod’s evo caught me by surprise and therefore earned a valid entry (and besides I could use a water type)
But that’s where the buck stops here, the rest just don’t excite me
So either Crabrawler (which has a high chance of being Fighting/Ice or Bewear)
    Heatigre
    Lycanroc
    Mudsdale
    Bewear or Chrampion
Wimpod’s evo who’ll I’ll call Carapod or Crustpod
    Kommo-o

  8. So Komala gets no evolution? And what about the snowman and dolphin pokemon? Those were in the same rumor as pyukumuku and passimian

  9. So no Komala Evolution?? And what about the Snowman and dolphin pokemon? They were also in the same leak as Pyukumuku and Passimian

  10. I feel like this pokedex isn’t complete. Not because it’s small but because there is no mention of the other Tapu’s (and we know that there are others). That seems strange to me. But I may be wrong and they might just be one of the Pokemon revealed but with no context we wouldn’t know they were Tapus

  11. I believe this is the full Dex but it’d be funny if GF planned all of this so that we’d still be shocked by new Pokémon in the final game lol

  12. Am I the only one who thinks Diglett and Dugtrio are Ground/Grass. The hair feels like it’s supposed to be some plant that grew due to Alola’s climate

    Reply
  13. Who else is feeling more hyped about Tsareena? Since Tsareena is one of the few Pokémon with a three staged evolution line it must be pretty powerful.

  14. Am I reading this right? Ash Pikachu? As in they took that one episode of Johto where he accidentally got turned into a Pikachu by a witch and they made a real Pokemon out of it?

  15. after alot of complaining and raging, i’ve come to my senses im ok with this now, all the pokemon this gen are greatly designed imo none of them feel lazy except some alolan forms but thats just me, i cant wait for sun and moon now

  16. i just LOVE wimpod’s evo! i knew it’s evolution would be epic! it’s alot like magikarp in that department 🙂 definitely having it on my team 😀

  17. I would like other Pokejunglers thought on this speculation of mine:
The transition from Crabrawler to Yeti Crabrawler seems kind of…odd. This is probably what the Chinese leaker meant by Snowman but I am not sure if Crabrawler will get an ice typing along with it’s fighting typing. Since it is already a crab I would have expected it to be water/fighting but that didn’t happen-that could be due to its design being a land-based crab. Nevertheless, I don’t see any other viable ice types in this gen of Pokémon (besides Alola forms) so I am hoping that Yeti Crabrawler is Ice/Fighting. It probably grew this “fur coat” (correct me if it is not actually a fur coat) in response to cold conditions. However, this flavor text leads to the problem of how it is going to evolve because most of Alola is pretty warm so there wouldn’t be a need to get a fur coat. Thus, it is in my opinion that Crabrawler evolves with the Ice Stone which has already been revealed and is probably used to evolve Alola Vulpix.

  18. i´m curious that this is the whole dex .. still haven´t found the guardian which looks like the strange souvenir .. moreover .. there are still some open spaces in the demo-dex (if i can belive the rumour)

  19. For my fairy type mono
    Popplio3
    Morellul2
    Cutiefly2 / tapu pokemon
    Comfey
    Mimikyu
    Alolan ninetails

Truth be told there aren’t really THAT MANY new fairy types. I think people are pissed only because there are less total pokemon.

    Reply
  20. I’m dissappointed. It seem the total Pokemon is going to be just above 800, so only ~80 new ones. Not sure if this counts Alolans or UBs.
That’s sad. Also no new steel types worth using. 2 legendaries and a Pikachu Clone.

    Reply
  21. I’m actually glad we’re getting roughly the same amount of new Pokémon as last gen. GF clearly wants us to get rid of our expectations from the old days. I’m sure it’s a headache recreating all the Pokémon with every new graphical jump. If they had done 100+ then the following gen when they did 99- again everyone would be pissed again. Now we can just come to terms with reality and get back to being excited!

      • Not really what I was talking about. Nintendo’s lack of desire to compete in the WHOAH GRAPHIX war doesn’t bother me. Call of Duty might be pretty but it’s boring AF. Gimme Mario Galaxy any and every day of the week over Assassin’s Creed or Halo.

        Reply
    • I think the anchor could be a steel type. It reminds of Klingklang. By it’s design I am guessing Steel, Steel/Water, Steel/Grass, of Steel/Ghost are possible typing a it could have. Steel Steel Steel.

  22. Loving some of these new Pokemon. The Alola designs are really making me lol. Dugtrio now would make any mega Ampharos jealous 😉

  23. Has anyone Considered the Strange Souvenir in all thise? After looking at all the Models it really seems to me like we might not be getting everything… Because i know for a fact that None of the Tapu’s, Solgaleo, or Lunaala look like the strange souvenir…

  24. While the seemingly small amount of new pokemon is a little disappointing, I gotta say they made some really cool additions. And why is no one talking about the weird metroid spider???

  25. I was fiddling in the demo a bit more, and was wondering if Jungle’s still updating their posts with info found in the demo, and if they wanted anything from it in regards to the Z-Stones/Moves at all?
sorry to be a pain haha :’) still trying to figure out what the community here is actually interested in

  26. Why I don’t think I will use rowlet3 ever

Player x sent out Rowlet 3
Player y sent out Weavile( life orb )
    Player x switched out
    Weavile used sword dance
    Weavile used knock off
    Weavile used low kick
    Weavile used Ice shard/icicle crash

    Reply
    • Opponent had Weavile on team. Let me send out Rowlet 3 as my first Pokemon. Hurr Durr.

Rowlet having 4x weakness to ice means it’s useless. Weavile having 4x Weakness to Fighting….it’s ok, still amazing Pokemon.

      Reply
        • And that can happen regardless of the Pokemon. The opponent send out Weavile I send out Conkeldur or Scizor. I win that time. Next game something else happens and I lose the match up.

          It’s part of the game.

If the scenario above did happen I would assess my team and my opponents team and probably just attack with Rowlet 3 to prevent the set up, if I didn’t have anything to handle a +2 Weavile

          Reply
    • Same logic could be used on Salamence. Its viability not only depends on typing, movesets and stats heavily factor in as well.

  27. So the starters only have one evolution, not two like first thought with Rockruff. So what makes them connected is not the evolution. There’s something more that we are yet to understand.

  28. Whimpods evo is basically exactly like I predicted: a mirelurk from fallout. Also, Alolan geodude line sucks, and alolan persian is SO disappointing.

  29. This is not the whole Pokedex. There’s gonna be at least 100 Pokémon same gen 2. Komala, Turtonator, Drampa, Passimian, and Oranguru evos, the fossil Pokémon, and the dolphin, snowman, and strange souvenir Pokémon are yet to be shown. In the upcoming video on oct 27 is when we are gonna to figure things out. This pokedex is incomplete. Gotta be….

  30. Finally saw all the leaks, kinda disappointed that we got so few Pokemon again this generation.

By the looks of things, my team will look something like Rowlet final, Mudsdale, Salandit final, Alolan Ninetales, Crabrawler final (if it doesn’t turn part Water type to affect my next choice), and Wimpod final.

My god, Wimpod final was the best thing in the leak.

    Reply
  31. I feel like this is starting to become a trend. Didn’t somebody on the Pokemon team said that they felt like they were making too many Pokemon to keep up with? I feel like this will be a pattern. Under a 100 Pokemon each gen along with some new forms or megas to compensate ugh.

    Reply
  32. So live in Est and I can’t find the demo in Eshop. I know we can’t play it until 10:00 am, but does that also mean it can’t be found on the Eshop through conventional means? Also do we need to know our password to purchase the demo, because I seem to have forgotten mine.

    Reply
    • I was hoping for more Pokemon this time around, I won’t lie. I understood the 6th gen was small because GF were focusing on megas, as well as the massive transition to the 3D engine…I hoped that now they had that figured out, they could give us a nice big juicy dex.

Don’t get me wrong, quality over quantity is nice. But 20 or so more Pokemon (and NOT Alola forms) would have been nice, too.

Maybe it just feels underwhelming because they showed us so much of it in the pre-release? I kept thinking ‘they’re showing us so much…that must mean they’re holding back that much more!’

      Reply
  33. Not giving Komala and Pyukumuku evolutions is so stupid.
And WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO PIKIPEK.
No new ice or dark types.. Pretty disappointing dex. And no, the alola forms or UBs don’t count. I want actual new Mon.

    Reply
  34. Does anyone know if the Sun and Moon demo is live for North America? Specifically est time zone? I’m on the Eshop and can’t find it 🙁 or do I need to type in something specific?

    Reply
  35. So a couple close got spoiled for me because I did it to myself and looked at them. (Mainly pikipeks evo and a quick glimpse at salandit’s) I didn’t look too close but how is the toucan any different from a real toucan design wise? I know some pokemon resemble their real life counterparts quite a bit (Persian and krabby for instance) but I like when pokemon take inspiration (like zebstrika) and spin it on its head.

Also, NO NEW ICE OR DARK TYPES? Are you kidding me? Is this the first gen to actually leave out types in the new dex?

    Reply
  36. I’m pretty pissed off at data miners since now that we know all the Mon, the hype is dead.
We have news on the 27th (I think) but who Cares, we already know everything

  37. I enjoyed the demo but I liked the format of the ORAS demo better, where you could turn it on (what was it, like 3 times) and do a mission every time? This one felt a little dull in comparison. I did like that they let you wander around looking at the pretty graphics, though 🙂

  39. Wimpod and Sandile’s evolutions look horrible, in my opinion.

Wimpod’s evolution looks like some kind of deformed isopod and it looks like they added the bipedal body as a last minute after thought.
And Sandile’s evolution looks like a seductive hooker lizard.
And no real Snowman Pokemon or Dolphin Pokemon. Just a Tapu Guardian and and a Yeti.
    How fucking dissapointing!

        • Chile I don’t know if you’ve seen my comments BUT I’m not here for this digimon mess that is ultrabeast and z moves. IDC about these new mini games or side quest either. IMO. When I think of a new generation of Pokemon I think of exploring a new region with new awesome Pokemon. Not whatever the fuck this mess is.

          • You just invalidated your own point tho. A big part of exploration is discovering something NEW different and unexpected. Clearly if you get exactly what you’re expecting it’s not really “exploring”. Besides the series has to push its boundaries and get outside its box to grow. But to each their own lol. I can respect your opinion I just think the opposite.

  45. Okay so I looked at the Alolan forms because I don’t care about them. And for good reason… Alolan Persian looks terrible and I need to know the inspiration for the geodude line. Is there gonna be electricity running through golems yellow rocks?

  54. There are actually 7 UBs. Well yeah there are 8, but one if version exclusive, so 7 per game. IT ALL COMES TOGETHER. And those pre-evos for Lunala/Solgaleo are not actually pre-evos, but most likely ”unreleased, or ”uncomplete” forms like the Zygarde cells. Same with Marshadow.

    Reply
    • don’t jump to conclusions. for all we know, any number of these could be version exclusive, there could be less than 7. they are switching up the formula so much this gen, who’s to say they aren’t pre evo’s of solgaleo and lunala? Silvally is basically another form, but its considered an evolution.

  55. There’s so much in these games to look forwards to! Beautiful region, different challenge in the form of trials, alolan forms, much better designs in my opinion than kalos and maybe even unova, upgraded character customisation.

Yes, there are some issues which we were hoping would be resolved such as another bipedal fighting type looking fire starter, a smaller number of new Pokemon, some of our favourite Pokemon from the reveals not getting evolutions, and for me personally not enough legendary Pokemon ( I like Sinnoh and unova :/). But still hyped and much better than Kalos! Hopefully the story is amazing and the game isnt as easy as XY! HYPED 😀

this image of the new pokemon with the question marks in it, i hope you know which one im talkiing about, someone already posted it.

The dots mean possibly more new pokemon ? and
Is this the correct datamined order of the mons in the dex?

      2. I think it may be like dark and bug, electric and bug? I have no clue hinestly

      Reply
      • It sort of has an air bubble around it (like those diving spiders), but by the colors it could be electric/bug, maybe electric/water. I would like an Bug/Psychic, even though it wouldn’t match with the colors, but who cares.

    • I don’t know if Kalos is in the games, but I do know that even if the games come out and Kalos isn’t in them, a certain group of hardcore fans will continue to believe we will return to it at some point through some kind of gen 7.5 DLC update, despite how GF have said they don’t want to do DLC and probably never will 😛

People just really don’t want to believe Kalos is over, haha.

      • I’m in the group of people believing Kalos is in, but if it isn’t in, it is not coming at a later point for Sun and Moon and I’ll admit, even with everything Sun and Moon have to offer, I’m going to be a bit disappointed that Kalos was one and done.

  62. We have no third legend, we have no Fossils, we have just 6 lines of 3 stages (3 of which are the starters). Instead we have 14 standalone pokemon and maybe other 6 to come. God, didn’t think Gen 7 would have beaten Gen 6 poor dex. At least I like almost all new pokemon.

    Reply
    • It’s sad but I really feel like there might be a little bit more. Maybe one or two evos for the standalone Pokemon and maybe a couple legends/mystical Pokemon.

    • tbh I feel like Marshadow is the 3rd legendary and it isn’t gonna stay as that cute little ghost critter. I wonder if it has an alternate form to make it impressive, big and scary.

Think of it like, if we’d seen Zygarde core before its normal form. maybe 😛

      Reply
      • No, I think Marshadow is the Mew clone of this gen. It could get another form but Hoopa had too. Usually the third legend has around the same size of the main legends.

        Reply
        • I’d agree with you, but usually the legendaries don’t get prevos and they have this time around. I wonder if Marshadow is something similar…just reversed.

          Reply
          • Perhaps mini-cover legendary will be related to the Zygarde plot line, since that also looks like a powering up legendary style thing. Post-game? Or it could just be like Xerneas in it’s pre-battle, blue forme.

    • Also, Let me remind everyone of celebi, Ho-oh and Lugia’s third legendary, but also the only mythical, also not similar to lugia and ho-oh’s theme. Marshadow could be the same.

If it truly does have a unique typing that helps us narrow. I have a few ideas.
    1) Dark/Fairy
    2) Ghost/Normal
    3) Poison/Fairy
    4) Psychic/Poison.

Of course if it wasn’t for the fact that we’ve been told it’s Unique I’d have said Dark/Ghost tbh.

  66. I’m not actually surprised if this is the amount of Pokemon we are getting. I’ve been thinking that they would release all Pokedex (maybe keeping some legendaries as secret) till the game release. Gen 6 and Gen 7 has few amount of Pokemon because of Mega Evolution designs and new Alolan Pokemon designs respectively.

    • Regardless of the data mining, what annoys me is how they released so many pokemon early on, which in a sense, gave false hope and didn’t leave much to be discovered when the games are released. Same can be said for the Alolan forms.

I am sure they have some stuff hidden that hasn’t been data-mined yet. Though I am disappoint that there wasn’t anymore alolan forms than what there is. I was expecting 20 to 30 alolan forms, but I am happy that alolan Golem exist. I am a little salty about no alolan Onix or Alolan machamp. Other than that I think this stuff should be fine. First time we haven’t moved into the next hundred block. Disappointed for sure, but more so in alola forms than the new ‘mons. 18 just seems like such a small number… Ah well, maybe we will get more in the 3rd Game/Sinnoh Remake/Sequels if we get any of those. With the NX right around the corner though these games do really seem like the last Ho-rah for the 3DS…

      • What source is needed? These aren’t the real numbers excluding Jangmo-o, Hakamo-o and Kommo-o that were revealed in the demo. I’m just saying that if you follow the notion that they will be the last non-legendary mons in the dex that all the other spoiled Pokemon fit perfectly between them and Volcanion. That would mean any other new Pokemon come after them (Making them legendaries) or, and far more likely, there aren’t anymore new Pokemon (except maybe mythicals that haven’t be revealed yet and weren’t coded in).

  93. Here’s my thoughts.

Alolan Persian… Why…? I mean, honestly, I think I would have preferred they become an elegant bipedal grey persian than a cat who let fortune go to their head.

Alolan Geodude line is okay. I honestly think I like the fake leaks more where they were volcanic.

I’m quite disappointed that GF revealed all but 17 – 19 new pokemon.

I’m definitely enjoying Wimpod’s evolution (who I’m calling Wrathynomus after the Giant Isopod genus) so much. I’m definitely getting one of these monsters. But, it does make me wonder… Are Wimpod and Crabrawler version exclusives or some new fossil-type thing?

Speaking of Crabrawler, that evolution of its… I’m hereby dubbing it Saskiwallop after the Kiwa hirsuta (Yeti Crab/Yeti Lobster) and calling the Fighting/Ice type combo. I’ll love that fuzzy lumpkin to death!

I’m not sure how to feel about the rest yet.

The shinies are disappointing imo, especially when compared to X and Y. These ones are much like gens 4 and 5’s shinies. Although, I do appreciate how Mimikyu’s color schemes are references to old gameboys. The regular colors being GBC and shiny being GB. Nice!

And I’m super sad that I saw the (what I’ll call) Eclipsed forms of Marshadow, Lunala, and Solgaleo. I’m also pretty sad I saw the Tikis and UBs. Hopefully I can forget…

    • Alola is based on Hawaii which is a group of extremely new islands. Hawaii doesn’t really have fossil records of anything other than maybe some old plants or micro-organisms. I think it’s a safe bet to say there will be no fossil mons, especially with the inclusion of 5 old gen fossil Pokemon in the regional dex.

    • That would be great! I like a lot of what I’m seeing but if this is it, it would feel like a huge missed opportunity for a cool concept in alola forms and a huge new game with new in game structure to have so few new Pokémon.

      • If you watch a Verlisify video, I know I dunno why I watch them but I still od the guy has good ideas when it comes to trailer breakdowns, he points out what seems to be a rabbit with pink ears and blaack tips, now most believe it’s a Snubble, but it’s not clear, and that clearly hasn’t been leaked, so if that does exist

        Reply
        • I actually pointed out the rabbit with pink ears weeks ago. Like I said, I really don’t think that this is the full dex. I think GF purposely added these unrevealed mons (the final starter evos are among them, and Masuda confirmed them as real 2 days ago) as sort of free marketing and to catch us offguard.

However until we know Marshadows type we can’t say. If it isn’t Psychic then I’ll doubt it even more, Legendary trios that have a common type tend to have all 3 having that type. not just 2. If it is Psychic, and has a unique type like was leaked, it’s either Psychic/Poison or Psychic/Bug, and it doesn’t look like either of those to me.
            To me it looks Dark/Fairy.

Then take out 73 (Gen 7 pokes plus complete Zygarde), that leaves you with 28. WHERE ARE THE 28 MISSING POKEMON? IN THE FINAL GAME!!!! 159. There are not anymore Pokemon. Sorry it just isn’t happening. I know it’s disappointing, but just get over it and learn to like these guys. The Chinese leaks could have been mistranslated. Snowman could have easily been referring to a yeti as in a yeti crab as in Crabrawler’s evo. And that Tapu is a dolphin. There are other types of Dolphin than just bottlenose ones. A Rugby monkey isn’t exactly what Passimian is either, but you don’t have people screaming out that that leak hasn’t come to fruition. Based on Hakomo-o’s pokedex number that was extracted with his base stats there is exactly the right number of Pokemon between Kommo-o and Volcanion that have been extracted. we have them all. It’s a done deal. There will likely be more in the third game/sinnoh remakes.

    • Plot twist: everything that happens in the story is all because of Marshadow and the final boss is Marshadow in its true form. I mean, it does have “shadow” in its name, possibly hinting at its play as an essential character puppeteering everything from behind the shadows and Solgaleo and Lunala take the form of the baby Pokemon to try and alert the humans of Marshadow and its minions of Ultra Beasts… Okay, I’m getting too fan-ficky! 😀

The fact that there seem to be less than 100 Pokemon this generation, along with the fact that Gen 7 seems connected to Gen 6 in many ways, makes me think that next generation will be another series reboot. Just like how Gen 5 had about the same number of Pokemon as Gen 1 and only featured those new Pokemon for the main story. I’d consider both Gen 6 and Gen 7 to be one big “3DS Generation”, with Gen 8 on NX (maybe) starting with a clean slate.

          • Why not? The demo is supposed to give us an idea of what to expect in the game. I’d be more put of if I didn’t think it was challenging enough.

        • I’m hoping that the photographing trials make some Pokemon hard to find. Also throw in other random Pokemon to throw you off. Make it so you have to lure some Pokemon to the right spot. Or even make it so you have to position yourself properly, or have the Pokemon run off if you take too long.

    5 – Alolan Marowak

1 – Sirene (Final Water Starter)
    2 – Salandette (Salandit Evolution)
    3 – Wimplash (Wimpod Evolution)
    4 – Lurantis
    5 – Vikavolt **
    6 – Alolan Sandslash

    * Will be replaced by Tapu Koko if it is not considered a legendary in the game and is not overpowered.
** Will be replaced by Alolan Raichu if the above happens and failing that may still be replaced by Alolan Golem if it is indeed Rock/Electric type.

      • Moves that haven’t featured yet, I doubt anyone has analysed the script for the demo (i.e. what pokemon will appear). Sure there will be moves that weren’t used, but still. Besides, it might be harder to remove moves.

        Reply
        • True, they could show up later in the demo, but if they don’t it’s really weird.

Also I doubt its that hard, they literally scrubbed every move except those four new moves and the ones that the demo Pokémon used: even the old ones and new ones already revealed, which altogether make like at least over 200.

          Reply
          • The reason it might be harder is because moves probably require actual code. Stats and Pokedex entries are just data (numbers and text) but moves actually have effects, which implies they also require code, so unless GF has some sort of Pcode/Bytecode/data-based system for handling moves, they might be a different matter.

That or they just don’t care about leaked moves.

      • Yeah I have to agree they are quite different from what we typically get. I would have thought they’d be uncatchable too. • Well, we do have a number of hints.
        -Similar music
        – Team skull use blue and pink for colors, like Diamond a Pearl
-Mele Mele island has locations based on DIAMOND head and PEARL harbor.
        and the list goes on.

        Reply
          • Name it, no. Melemele is based on the island of Oahu, which is home to both the previous locations. The crater shaped mountain on Mele Mele is clearly Diamond head, and its likely that the harbor in that main city is a reference to pearl harbor, given their similar locations.

        • Indeed, but there is much more evidence going against it unfortunately. Also I think that last one is just a coincidence (maybe not :D)

I mean, we literally just had a remake on the 3ds. I feel like they are saving sinnoh for the next handhold console.

UNLESS, the NX is handheld and home console hybrid and Sun and Moon/gen 7 is playable on it.

          Reply
          • And that really doesn’t mean anything. We would have gotten Gen 3 remakes back on the DS if they didn’t decide to go with direct squeals as an idea for a gen, and it backfired. Their not going to put remakes on unproved hardware that they haven’t had much experience with and they have no idea how it’ll sell. I really doubt that we’ll see any main series game on the NX any time soon, and they’ll probably make the Sinnoh remakes on the 3DS to give the handheld a strong sendoff.

          • Maybe… Probably not the NX.

I mean, I don’t think Black 2 and White 2 was really a bad thing.
But I feel like they’ll stick to the new handheld console pattern for remakes. Who knows, I might be wrong. It looks like a completely new game and engine in these games so you never know 😀

          • While BW2 weren’t “bad games”, they didn’t sell well. To this day their still the lowest selling main series game. So I don’t find it likely that they’ll ever do a direct squeal again. More likely that they’ll leave a few loose plot threads to be picked up on in the next game, like we’re seeing with Zygarde now.

Also I wouldn’t call this a new engine. Its more like a modified version of gen 6. Kind of like how gen five used a modified version of gen 4’s engine.

          • Yah… That’s true. But they definitely really improved with the graphics…

I’m very impressed, and let me just say. sinnoh remakes IN THESE GRAPHICS?!

            HELL. YES

          • Probably because of their proximity to the originals and people feeling like Emerald/Platinum weren’t a big enough change and expected more of the same.

    Popplio3 (water/fairy?) – Undine
    Vikavolt (bug/electric) – Ark
    Lycanroc (Day) (rock) – Ramses

      • My reasoning is that FRLG is older than Sinnoh. When I first realized this I thought maybe they’ll throw Kanto in with Sinnoh or SuMo, but now with another gen with 99- new Pokémon I’m realizing how taxing 3D models are for GF and how they’re actively trying to lessen their future burdens. SO my thought is that they’all just start doing additional remakes in order to maximize their revenues off of any current engine being used.

        Reply
          • Honestly we if it was as simple as snapping one’s fingers I wish we could have all the regions in every visual style they’ve had over the years… Especially gen 6. I loved the chibi overworld. Though SuMo’s more fully realized world is amazing.

          • HGSS and RSE will always be my favourite stylistically (discounting G7 until I’ve actually got SM in my hands).

          • Yeah, they’d need way more than just Sevii islands, they’d need to give most towns a big revamp, maybe even put a new storyline in place.

          • If it involves Mewtwo I’d be all for it.
Witnessing Mewtwo having an actual conversation with Giovani in Giovani’s mansion/base would be a nice touch. Even better if they effectively recreate the first film and let you travel to mewtwo’s weird castle/lab island.

          • Yeah, the backstory was there, but RBY suffered from a weak villain storyline. I agree with all you said! Maybe explain Mewtwo and Mew’s origin story and how Newtwo makes its way to Cerulean cave.

          • Yeah, Mewtwo had no backstory in the original because it hadn’t been fleshed out yet. They missed the chance to fix that in the first remakes.

Tbh Mewtwo is still one of my favourite legendaries because of how deep his backstory goes. He’s not just a legend, he was created in a lab, abused by Giovani, and lived his life stuck between deciding whether humans are good or evil and not really knowing who or what he was.

That’s something almost everyone can sympathise with – betrayal and being unsure of who you are or what to make of the world.

          • Mewtwo is my favorite legend For the very same reason. He struggles with feeling if he is an abomination or a creature worthy of the life he was given. Honestly, a remake with Mewtwo as the boxart legend would be amazing, but it CANNOT be another simple remake.

          • eh, yeah they are but I’d still probably like them they could do a complete story rehaul or something maybe just set in kanto. TBH I don’t really know how I’d feel about a D/P remake either, I hope I’d like it but I hated the originals more than any other main game

      • I can definitely see it happening one day. Except instead of yet another remake, I would prefer a brand new story set entirely in present day kanto. Everything in beautifully rendered 3D as well as updates on all the Pokemon. Plus Think of how much Kanye has changed in 20 years! Regardless I don’t see this happening until next decade

  224. It really disappoints me how underrated the story in Black and White is in the industry. Iy gets almost NO recognition. It deals with mental abuse, morality, animal violence, and ideology in ways other games wish they could. Yet no one seems to notice and just look at the surface elements. “It’s a pokemon game”. Even with just how complex N is as a character shows how much thought and effort they put into the story.

The story is also intertwined with the mechanics. It directly questions whether your actions throughout these games is right or if you really are enslaving these creatures. It asks you to look at it from a different perspective.

I wanna talk about N for a second because he is developed so well. While it is obvious he is a villain from the moment you meet him, he starts out by stating that he can hear what your pokemon is saying. This sets him apart and is a major part of his character. N was taken in by Ghetsis as a young child. It is actually implied that kidnapping may have been involved. N is isolated from the rest of the world. In order to further his own agenda and plans, Ghestis brings him only the pokemon hurt by people. N is raised with a skewed view of how pokemon are treated, but he also grows up connecting with pokemon in a way no one else has. This means he both understands pokemon more than anyone, but also doesn’t at the same time.

His views are soon challenged as soon as he goes out into the world. By now he is crowned king of team plasma and believes he is fighting for the freedom of pokemon, no longer letting them be hurt by selfish people. (Actually the grunts using pokemon themselves illustrates how many are on board with Ghetsis’s actual plans making the ones remaining who follow N in B2W2 very interesting). When N sees that pokemon are enjoying being with people, it makes no sense.

By the end of the game, he still isn’t convinced though. He finds out he was essentially Ghetsis’s puppet and is even verbally assaulted by what he saw as his Father his whole life. The game ends on him saying “Farewell” and he flies off with Zekrom to really find out what the truths are.

Brilliant writing. I hope this game will get the recognition it deserves.

  226. First impressions

Alolan Dugtrio – Nice and understandable. Some can argue it’s a wasted opportunity tho reveal its real body, but why reveal the man behind the curtain? It’s their mystery, one of which may never be explained if they really stick to their roots – which they do a lot nowadays. Maybe and if when it’s close to an ending for the franchise, they can though.

Alolan Persain – I really don’t see a reason, even though I’m sure they have it, for its existence right now. It’s not only ugly, it’s grotesque. Hopefully it’s to do with something meta so we can bear it, otherwise just kill it with fire.

Alolan forms – They really wasted opportunities here. Lots of mons could breathe new life like Ninetales and so on. Lots of types would benefit with new additions. So, why exactly introduce just a few and some questionable ones? That of course, if this is all there is. Would be nice to have some insight from the development team in that case.

New pokemon – I’m generally satisfied, specially with potential Fairy/Poison and Bug/Dark new mons. My only complaint is the excessive amount of standalones – again, if this is all there is (which I believe it is). Why? The first generation’s got almost all of the mons covered with post-games evolutions (mega or not) and it just goes against the franchise’s main deal. I really don’t understand, it seems lazy.
The designs, though, all are refreshing. I don’t care if it’s only a few new ones, I wanted new megas for sure, but the ones we’ve got are awesome. I even like the freshness of UBs. Still, it’s sad to see types like Ice getting no love, as always.

Well, I’m very pleased in general! Nothing can be perfect though, right?! 🙂

Could it be the thing we’re calling Marshadow but if that’s that then…..who is our real 3rd main legendary to complete the trio? Zygarde? Is it possible that Kalos and Alola both share the same main legendary? Instead of a legendary trio, there is actually 5 main legendaries (sol+luna+yvel+xer+zy)??

    Reply
    • Magearna is our first event.

Marshadow is likely the third Pokemon but could also be another event.

If Zygarde is somehow also the third Pokemon (again) it’d be weird, but I guess Zygarde’s plot wasn’t discussed too hard in XY so it was more like a bonus capture rather than part of the plot.

      Reply
      • I feel zygarde will most likely serve some sort of plot in this game, whether that be post game or main quest, something will likely happen.

    • As for legendary trio, I think the legendary quartet of Tapu Koko and Friends serve as their replacement. So it is also possible that there’s no real “third legendary” since it was moved to be one of the quartet.

    Normal/Flying.

It was a long trend from the very beginning that the regional birds had, until Talonflame broke it. Not only that, but there’s Fearow, Dodrio, Farfetch’d, Chatot, and Braviary.

And Pikican doesn’t seem that it will be innovative. I guess that they sacrificed unique rodents and birds for a unique bug

    Reply
    • I wish there was more variety for sure. But I also kind of like the consistency. It makes the game feel more like a consistent world with a standardized biology. Like real life, there are some exceptions, but a lot of the worlds wildlife is a variation of the same thing, in a different region.

IN TERMS OF THE DATAMINE VIDEO PART 4: The link to the video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mh7RNb_PK1c. Kaphotics confirms that HMs are gone and gives the full TM list. He describes some new items, as well as the Strange Souvenir, whose item data is not changed. There are Z-Moves for every type. Primal Reversion and Hoopa Unbound were found in the data. It also appears that what we got is what we are getting for Sun and Moon. All new Pokemon have been revealed.

Komala looks like it could have an evolution

The problem is not with the standalones, it’s when a standalone Pokemon looks incomplete as if it could have an evolution.

      Reply
      • I feel it saves a lot of variety. For instance there’s a lot of Pokemon who people consider their pre-evolution to be far superior to their final forms. However by choosing to opt out of evolving, your using a viable, but still significantly weaker Pokemon. So with these ones that feel “incomplete” there are Pokemon for people who aren’t just trying to get a bigger Pokemon and are happy with the small.

I like evolving Pokemon more than ones that don’t but I 100% get the appeal of Pokemon that don’t evolve and evolution that are disappointing. I feel like there’s also a weird bias at play which takes something small and assumes it always has to be something more. Which is a design consumption flaw, even when it’s Pokemon.

But if we wanna talk about incomplete Pokemon, people have been waiting for that farfetch evolution since blue/red, haha.

        Reply
        • Sometimes it’s about stats and competitive play as well. I know a lot of folks were hoping to use komala but something like that would never stand a chance in competitive play

    • They have a bias for big vs little. Where if something is small, it has to turn into something big to be worth it.

There is also a sort of spoiled aspect, that’s totally fair. Where Pokemon used to be about evolving them. But now the games are becoming more about the Pokemon and their varieties, and not just how they change. Which I think is a good thing. I don’t need every cool pokemon to evolve into something ugly.

Komala and Pyukumuku not evolving makes sense: Komala already resembles an adult Koala! It’s already fully grown, it’s just that it’s a small Pokémon based on a small animal. As for Pyukumuku, the same kinda applies, as well as the fact it seems to be the joke Pokémon of this Gen due to how it fights and how it’s so inefficient it’ll sometimes let itself starve to death before moving.

Comfey and Mimikyu are less surprising, but it’s obvious it’s because their abilities. Tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if they got Evolutions in the future if GameFreak ever returns to them if they turn out to be flops.

Oranguru, Passimian and Anchordude just look like stand alones.

Also, the question Marks CAN’T be new pokemon, because then how would you explain Raticate and Zygarde. Theres no Pokemon between Raticate and Spearow in the Dex, this is why it’s more likely totem pokemon for some reason. On the other hand, what’s the point of Ride if you don’t actually get to ride it?

          • Well idk….maybe there’s a quick warp option so you don’t always have to move yourself over to the area to land. A lot of other games have that kind of option in addition to actually doing something similar to soar.

          • Crabrawlers Info seems to indicate that Headbutt is useable outside of battle, I know that’s always been a TM, but it was useable Outside of Battle, so letting it have it’s old Function isn’t that farfetched. However, Teleport could be updated to do basically what fly does?

I mean for starters, isn’t Marshadows type supposed to be Unique, meaning it has a Dual typing we haven’t seen, if it’s just Dark that isn’t unique. What’s interesting is they gave the bug thing Ice, I’d have given it Psychic, Water or Electric.
Also while I know this isn’t a dealbreaker, if one starter is fairy and one is Dark it’s a bit unfair tbh when the first isn’t a type that counters them. Though Swampert is so weak to Sceptile so.
Also isn’t it off how Lunalas Pre Evo isn’t next to it.

Also do you think the UB’s have types? I mean, They’d have to cause you catch them but, I mean, what types do you think, and do you think some of the ones we’ve seen may be classed as the same one, so say, 2 are classed as UB-04 like UB-02 is.

          • well nobody official said marshadow was to be unique its all technically 100% rumors
i liked that idea that it has No typing

          • No one official, but I doubt this leaker got 1 thing wrong when everything else seems to have been more or less spot on so I’m not sure why that wouldn’t be. No type would be odd, and how would that even work. At the same time, it’s odd to know of Marshadow this early if it’s a Mythical, so it might be connected to Type:Null. It was created to fight a Pokemon from Mythology, though most people say that to be Arceus but Arceus doesn’t make as much sense apart from the type thing, but needing a pokemon that could change types would help, basis, not the reason to create it. Perhaps Marshadow is every type.

          • I mean in terms of what it was made to fight.
Yes it has inspiration from Arceus, the ability, but I don’t think it was create to fight Arceus, but rather a Pokemon that’s actually in the regional dex. Which leaves the Box Legends, Ultra Beasts, and Mythicals (Magearna and what we assume is Marshadow). Arceus is more of what they based it on, rather than what they created it to fight.

          • I guess that is possible. Although I’ll admit I’d rather it be to fight arceus. That might also point toward the notion of marshadow having no typing/strange typing or ability

          • It’s possible that, unlike other Pokemon who need outside help to change type, it could change types on it’s own. Not sure how that would work however, but think of it as it has a different type naturally. That would make it very unique wouldn’t it? It does have a castformesque vibe.

          • I don’t think it’s related to the Box Legends. It feels more Hoopalike. It’s bound to have another form, of some kind, probably bigger and less cute.
On account for a third legend, the ones we’ve seen are the whole regional Dex, but like D/P there could be a couple of Legends outside the regional Dex, so if there is a third that’s where it is. Though with Zygarde in the regional dex I doubt it. Whats odd is how Lunalas “Pre evo”, isn’t next to it.

          • T_T ok this is what totally annoys me
it is designed to synthesize the powers of every Pokemon but to say it was meant for Arceus is stretching it’s all the way from the Sinnoh mythos thousands of miles away, it is clearly meant to fight the Ultra Beasts which pose a threat that not even legends might have the power to vanquish if gotten out of control

and that ring doesn’t make it necessarily connected to Arceus, it might be just a nod or totally unintentional i thought it more as a holding pin that keeps the mask on

and before the whole AKS System, yes it sounds like Arceus it stands for RecordKeepingSystem which explains why memories are the item, which store the Type Data which it activates on

          • It’s not clearly made for UBs at all….I think it’s as much for that as it could be for arceus. Just because it’s a different region doesn’t make the connections any less plausible.

I’d say the ring being a coincidence is extremely unlikely because it’s the exact same design.

RKS sounding like arceus is almost definitely intentional. They could’ve just called it disk system.

          • you’re nuts, i can’t wait until everything comes out and everything i’ve theorized is much more truer then you

          • How mature of you…too bad none of what you’ve said has any more credibility than mine. I’d suggest you stop thinking your opinions are better than other people’s. You were already wrong about being able to catch UBs.

          • I only based that on some of the bosses in the PMD series like the Bittercold and Dark matter which were fightable and not actually pokemon

          • No type would make great sense, it looks kinda like a shy meaningless spirit, just a mere shadow of this and all worlds, it has no powers no solid type, just meaningless sentience cursed to wander about
            kinda sad actually

          • So then it’s basically a normal type without a fighting weakness. In which case, Ghost/Normal is a possibility.

          • i prefer Normal/Ghost i had this idea of a tiny white creature who’s shadow is alive and protect’s it body

          • You’ll hate me for this, but the Sprite we assume is Marshadow, looks exactly how I imagined my Lullabye idea. You don’t like Fairy though. Also if it was Fairy/Dark that would make most legends/mythicals this gen fairy so I don’t think that’s likely anyway.

        • Mustaches do not equal dark type people. Instead of focusing on the facial hair, why don’t you take a moment to notice the giant magnetic looking machine sticking out of golems back? It’s obviously rock/electric

  250. Gonna guess the types of the leaked Pokémon

-Rowlet3 (Grass/Flying): Heavy emphasis on feathers and wings.

-Litten3 (Fire/Dark): Violent wrestler with dirty moves, and frankly just resembles a Dark-Type.

-Popplio3 (Water/Fairy): Based off mythological creatures including the siren, Popplio learns Disarming Voice.

-Pikipek2 & Pikipek3 (Dark/Flying): Both look noticeably more aggressive compared to the adorable Pikipek, and may take Pikipek’s occasional thievery to a whole new level.

-Crabrawler2 (Fighting/Ice): Is a play on ‘yeti crab’, being a crab that is also a yeti. Could evolve from a pure Fighting-Type in a tropical region via the Ice Stone believed to evolve Alolan Vulpix.

-Spiky Aquatic Creatures 1&2 (Water/Poison): Aquatic? Check. Spiky? Check. Purple and blue? Check. The design just lends itself too well to a Water/Poison. Although it’s a bit shaky and seeing as it appears to just sit at the bottom of the ocean and not swim around I wouldn’t be gobsmacked if it’s Poison, Poison/Rock, Poison/Steel, or Poison/Dark.

-Diving Bell Spiders: Didn’t list a type or two because they have so many options. We’ve had non Bug-Type Arachnids before in Gliscor and Drapion due to other types fitting, so the lack of the commonly guessed Bug wouldn’t be surprising, but it is hella obvious. They look sinister, so Dark is a good candidate, as is Water due to them being Diving Bell Spiders and having Water around their heads. Ice is kind of a wild card due to the snow ball looking thing on the second evo’s legs and Ice’s ties to Water. Also, the ‘helmets’ could be ice with air/water inside? It’s a loose connection for me tbh but others seem more convinced. So in order from most likely to least likely I can see:

    1) Bug/Water and Bug/Dark (Bug/Water would be higher if Wimpod didn’t exist)
    2) Water/Dark
    3) Bug/Ice
    4) Dark/Ice
    5) Water/Ice

Morelull2 (Grass/Fairy) and Salandit2 (Poison/Fire) : Bundling these two together because I sincerely doubt either one will change type.

-Wimpod2 (Bug/Water): It just kinda turns Wimpod badass so I don’t think a type change would immediately be obvious. However, it does look more land-based and we may have the Diving Bell Spiders as Bug/WATER so a type change to Bug/Fighting (DO YOU EVEN LIFT?), Bug/Dark (Viciousness), Bug/Dragon (It looks cool, seems good enough for GF), or Bug/Poison (Wimpod is mentioned to have toxins).

-Anchor Friend (Steel and either Poison, Ghost or Water): It’s obviously going to be Steel IMO, it’s made of metal. Poison seems farfetched but it looks rusty, and could be represented as kind of a plague amongst Steel-Types similar to organic ailments such as the benign acne to something terminal, which fits quite well with Poison, as well as something being destroyed over time-like Poison and disease does go organic beings. Although that’s mostly wishful thinking. Steel/Ghost seems very likely as nearly every inanimate object based Pokémon is Rock (inanimate objects anyway, but inanimate Rock-Type Pokémon tend to be animalized more than other inanimate Pokémon types), Steel (same reasons as Rock but they tend to be animalized less), Electric (like machines running on electricity), or Ghost/Psychic/Fairy (mysterious forces controlling an intimate object or the object comes to life). However, I’m hoping it isn’t to avoid stepping on Honedge’s territory, but it is a stellar type that has been barely used. Furthermore, one could see rusting as iron dying. And must I explain Water? It’s literally an anchor, and water is a frequency cause of rusting due to chemical processes involved. So in order of how likely each one is:

    1) Steel/Ghost
    2) Steel/Water
    3) Steel/Poison

    -The Tapu Guardians

Their bodies highly resemble Tapu Koko’s and they from a quartet so like everyone else, I’m assuming secondary Fairy-Typing. They also match with the colours of Oricorio like Tapu Koko does with Pom Pom Oricorio, and those two match types, sooo:

Tapu ‘Akala’: Psychic/Fairy (backed up by Psychic Terrain)
    Tapu ‘Ulaula’: Fire/Fairy
    Tapu ‘Poni’: Ghost/Fairy

-The Lesser Legends (Psychic/Ghost and Psychic/Steel): These things turn into Lunala and Solgaleo, so they’re probably at least going to keep Psychic as it’s their ‘evos’ primary type as well as having their own space themes, and I’m guessing they keep the secondary types because Lunala0 looks like an adorable little spirit and Solgaleo0 is literally just a cosmic eye embedded into metal.

-‘Marshadow’ (Various): A reliable leaker said it has a unique typing, and I’m inclined to belive him since it looks like it could anyway. I’m going to guess, in no particular order of likelihood:

~Dark/Fairy: It looks dark and mysterious, and also looks like a little sprite. It’s a unique type too, and seemingly goes with the game’s Fairy Flattery :p

As a bit of interest, Mars (Marsshadow) is kind of literally Earth’s shadow (Marshadow, being behind it (like a literal shadow) and being inferior (no longer holds water and can’t hold life) to it. It also doesn’t provide/sustain/protect life like the Sun, the Moon and the Earth. This typing however, gives it advantages over Lunala, Solgaleo and Zygarde (who seems to be the Earth Guardian). The idea of Mars being inferior to earth also explains why it looks like it’s own diminutive form when Solgaleo, Lunala and Zygarde all have diminutive forms they come from, and may be able to revert to and from.

~Ghost/Normal: It looks like a ghost, whilst also looking quite ‘normal’, too. Also, ‘shadow’ is tied to Ghosts in Pokémon (see: Gengar, Shadow Sneak, Shadow Punch, Shadow Claw Shadow Force, ‘Shadow Ray’). Also, if you support the theories of Marshadow tying into Mars, and then Mars once sustaining life but no longer doing so, Ghost makes a lot of sense. Hell, you could even just call it a ‘ghost planet’ because of how utterly barren it is. Also a never used type.

~Psychic/Poison: Mostly if it turns out to be related to Lunala and Solgaleo, which I doubt at this point unless it gets a form in the next games (either Giratina style, Kyurem style, or Zygarde style). A unique type which would frankly be awesome seeing how mistreated poor Poison is (also finally a Poison legendary). Psychic for space shenanigans, Poison from its name (Mar as in for something to deteriorate or be ruined) or once again the spiel of Mars once holding water and possibly life before becoming the Mars we know and love today.

There’s also Poison/Fairy which is an unused combination made of the already included types, but it’s design doesn’t really scream Poison/Fairy. Wouldn’t be terribly surprising, but I don’t expect it.

  251. Omg the gen 1 fanservice is AMAZING.

Just watching GameXplain’s youtube vid where they chat about playing the first few hours of Sun/Moon, and apparently Lillie and her Pokemon are attacked by a horde of Spearow and your player character protects them with their body!

That’s one of my favourite moments in the Pokemon franchise EVER so I’m delighted they’re referencing it in game. I understand now why this game was called a ‘celebration of everything Pokemon’ by someone who played it.

  252. I can’t help but wonder, when we transfer Greninja to the main game, what will happen to the player character in the demo. He’ll be left Pokemonless.
The OR/AS demo we still had the 3 starters when we transferred Glaile, but this time we don’t have any other pokemon.
Maybe we get the Pikachu Back…

  253. I’m sure its been said before but I think Alolan Diglet and Dugtrio are going to be Fire/ground, Mostly because while i was looking over a website i noticed someone brought up Pele’s hair, which is basically Golden looking Fiberglass caused by Volcanic activity, and The rocks beneath it resemble volcanic rocks imo. I could be wrong but we will have to see.

          • I don’t really care whether it was stolen from 4chan or tumblr or whatever. From what I’ve seen and heard both places are full of terrible people. That of course doesn’t mean everyone who frequents those places are terrible. just that they have some pretty shitty people who frequent there. All i know is its an idea that makes sense.

          • Tumblr’s full of terrible people.
4chan is organised chaos that is capable of producing good ideas because nobody takes insults seriously.

If the hair thing is true, Ground/Rock is looking most likely.

          • I happen to know some Decent people on Tumblr but i can understand. Tumblr can be an incredibly shitty place, with people who steal art, spread miss information, etc. And that Typing makes sense. i feel it might go either way but we won’t know till we see.

    • Those were scrubbed from the demo data, chances are we won’t know them until release. At least it gives us something to look forward to in the official reveals :/ .

  254. Right, thoughts time:
I was honestly gonna try and stay unspoiled. But as I had planned, I got someone I trusted (my brother, turned out) to give me the lowdown on pokémon numbers… and just like XY, my massive disappointment meant there was no justification in making efforts to avoid spoilers, as I was only setting myself up to be disappointed once the game came out. Seriously, we only got 73 actual new pokémon, 8 UBS and 18 Alolan forms… A total of 99 overall, LESS than XYs 101 new ones (72+30 megas). I hadn’t realised this until I did this calc either, WHAT THE DAMN HELL. This is an ODD GEN!!!! EURGH…
Anyway, HAHAHAHAHAHA, of those, only 16 pokémon were left to be revealed (not including the amazon leak, or the starter evos), 6 of which were legendaries, and 7 of which were evolutionary relatives of previously revealed pokémon… Leaving 3 completely unexpected normal “wild” pokémon to be discovered. THREE. And only 7 evolutions! Absolutely not worth the hassle of no spoilers. Of the Alolan forms left unrevealed, there was only one new line, wow, amazing, and of course it turned out every single one of the remaining Alolan forms were basically pisstakes. Really satisfying, that. Then we had five new UBs, each of which only comforted my feeling the whole idea was a pure waste of development time and code.

As the direness of the numbers dawned on me, I just decided I may as well make the most of it, so me and my pokégang just got on skype, and the three of us who’d avoided the leaks discovered them together. At least that was fun to do.

But honestly, I feel Game Freak once again completely dropped the ball here. I was truly, dearly looking forward to discovering a whole region of new pokémon on my playthrough for the first time, to feel it was all earned after making efforts to avoid the spoilers. But now, all that’s not going to happen. New pokémon are the heart of each new game to me, I’m really not that bothered about the story (come on, it’s pokémon, not Game of Thrones…) or anything much else in comparison, except maybe the locations. I guess at least now when the games release in the states, I won’t have to avoid them like the plague. wooo….

All those leaks were promising over 100 new pokémon. I was expecting at least a decent (compared to XY) 90 new pokémon (as in not including alolans or UBs)… But no, we get the absolute lowest amount possible… Slow clap.
I love how GF were going on about how Alola is teeming with life and new things to discover. Now, this isn’t in itself contradicted by the number of pokémon we got, but I certainly feel this absolutely sh*tty tally clearly violates the spirit of that ethos. Now yes, I know GF want to slow down the number of pokémon as they get near a thousand. But then, come one now, don’t waste time on crap like UBs, and give us at least as many Alolan forms as XY had new megas, especially if you’re going to make half of them silly jokes. And yes, a lot of the new designs are amazing (there are massive duds too of course), but don’t you give me that “quality v quantity” crap. Gen V stands as a clear counterexample (to me at least, and to many other people too I’d think), and had a similar dud to gold ratio as gens VI and VII. And if they’re gonna give us such a low number of newbies, it’s just shameful to show over 80% of them before release as their advertising strategy does. In no way do they actually need to do that, they could divide the amount of pokémon per reveal by three and still get the same amount of hype, or at least sales…
Lol, I felt like I was being realistic simply by not expecting new megas or evolutions but expecting a decent amount of new pokés. Turns out I was still completely wishfully thinking.

Now, time to look at the actual content I guess:

The unrevealed pokémon are for the most part pretty cool or amazing:
-Didn’t expect the Toucan being Pikkipeks evo, and it would have been nice to get a proper big woodpecker, but honestly I llike this, it makes biological sense and is a pretty fun surprise. I guess it’s weird the toucan looks so much like a real toucan to the point it’s slightly jarring (except it’s eyes, man, what is up with those, I mean I don’t mind them, but dang).
-Salandit’s evo is pretty much as expected and really cool (especially it’s shiny form), though I think I would have preferred a quadruped, I’m more lenient on herptilian bipeds because of the obvious dinosaur vibes, and the feminine look really works on this one
-Morelull’s evo is good in some ways (love the creepy face and salad fingers), bad in others (hat the whole frilly hat thing and the loss of the multiple mushrooms)
-Wimpod’s evo is an absolute BAMF
-Urchin’s evo is neat, very fitting
-Crabrawler’s evo is amazing… I’ve always wanted a yeti crab pokémon, and to have one that’s actively dedicated to faking the existence of the yeti is pretty hilarious. Really hoping it goes ice-fighting (turns out we probably do get an new ice type after al-new dark type too somewhere I’m assuming?). I’m gonna call that it evolves with an ice stone, because it’s base stage goes through quite a drastic change to sudden icy appearance.
-I didn’t see the anchor at first and was gonna complain we had no new item pokémon until I saw it and forgot the sandcastles (yeah I’ve realised I actually like item-based pokémon). It’s really weird and I need to see more to get a proper opinion, but on first glance it looks worse than klefki, and that’s not good. It’s also a bit weird not to have the possessed archeology line we’ve had each gen since gen III this time (baltoy-bronzor-golett-honedge), and this thing would only very vaguely fit even if ghost type.
-The water spiders (which I first thought were viruses, and I maintain that’s probably an inspiration, look at how the base stage resembles a bacteriophage) are hella amazing
-Dissapointed with the guardians, they had some really amazing ones in previous fake leaks and none of these come close.
-Dunno what to think of the Legendary “prevos”, hope they’re forms
-Marshadow is kinda cute, but I’m dissapointed it’s not an awesome huge third legendary. I’m thinking as many others this just might be the chibi form. Wondering if it might not just be our mythical for this gen instead though
-What’s up with event pokémon then? Are they gonna be added through patches? Are they not a thing anymore? Is marshadow one, and one and only? This is one of the key remaining questions IMO.

I’m really dissapointed by the number of unevolving pokémon, it’s way too damn high. I can understand Pykumuku and Komala not evolving (though it would have been cooler for both to have evolutions), they both have pretty self-sufficent designs and work perfectly as pokémon versions of their real-life counterparts-ex: Komala is super cute. I have more trouble understanding Drampa, Turtonator, Oranguru ad Passimian not having prevos, they really had the potential for amazing ones. Minior not evolving into Mighteor is a waste (and the fake leaks had such good desgins for evolutions)… Bruxish could have used a relative as well.

I’m really gutted we didn’t properly get our snowman and dolphin, and I honestly thought the leaker had lied until I saw it pointed out he was referring to the tapu and the yeti crab. I guess those were pretty neat as cryptic hints then, but we still need these two ideas to be made into pokémon (seriously, we have a dolphin-symbol pokémon but no actual dophin??? Also where my cute/cool snowman at?)

I haven’t even covered my biggest frustration with gen VII: NO BLOODY FOSSILS. And don’t you dare tell me that “Alola is a volcanic island” crap, not only has game freak never cared about such things so why should they now, but these place do have at least subfossils IRL, and most importantly, the Alolan pokedex doesn’t just include KOALAS and RED PANDAS, but also fossils from previous generations…
No, this is honestly another one of GF’s typical and inexplicable random and stupid choices.
They denied themselves a whole, still extremely broad pool of ideas.
The fossils are always the pokémon I look forward to the most. SCREW YOU TO HELL, GF.

Now about Alolan forms: when it was first revealed, I really adored the concept, it held such high promise and the first batch was a very promising start… But then from there it only went downhill, to pokémon who were fine or were cool but had wack explanations (I’m looking at you, Marowak’s ghost type), or explanations that were just taking the pisss (Raichu). And then it ends on this batch of complete and utter jokémon. Now don’t get me wrong, I usually find joke pokémon funny, and I like the diglett line’s completely idiotic surfer style (though I’ve seen much better fake alolan digletts). But revealing the concept with Aolan Exggutor and Ninetales, and leaving us only Garfield Persian, surfer diglett and Geodude with facial hair to discover in game is disingenuous and cruel. Plus how the hell could they only be bothered to make 16…Why don’t we have at least the Koffing, Ekans and Machop lines to counterpart grimer, sandshrew and geodude?
Having seen in the gamexplain interview that they said they chose first gen pokémon as they were going to be most recognisable yet most striking as redesigns seems fair to me. But them saying they made them as gifts to long time fans who suck with them since gen I is just insulting and makes me sad. I’m sorry but that’s clearly not what anyone wanted. A real celebratory gift would have been to pick pokémon from each generation. Either GF are, as they often seem to be, completely clueless as to what people actually want, or they didn’t want to admit this was just a ploy to get the attentio of pokémon GO franchise relapsers, and genwunners. In any case it makes them look bad

I never liked UBs when they were first revealed and just immediately got to wishing they never existed, and this new batch of five doesn’t change that opinion in any way, it only strengthens it. Now don’t get me wrong, they’re interesting designs, they just have flip all to do with the aesthetic of the pokémon universe, and badly clash with it IMO. Them being confirmed as catchable only makes it worse. They would have been jarring enough as tough, uncatchable story bosses, but now we have to tolerate their usability in all future generations…
I get they’re supposed to be interdimensional entities and all that, and it’s a cool idea (strangely close, in fact, to the weird “alien type” idea I’d had as a kid for weird pokémon that would look like no others and come from space), but in practice not a single of those designs feels at all at home in a pokémon game to me.

A few more random thoughts about miscellaneous info, the demo, the gamexplain dev interview:

In the interview, they say thet basically added in ash-greninja as fanservice, as they knew fans, and especially, kids, loved it and thus wanted to give them the ability to use it… This is definitely why we have ash pikachu too. Now I wouldn’t be fundamentally agaisnt this in principle, but the seemingly shoddy way in which it’s being implemented annoys me to no end. Rather than give any explanation as to what ash-greninja is supposed to be, or give it any concept oustide of the anime (such as being a mega), they just throw it in, with all the anime strings attached. Well done one making the canon any clearer GF…
The fact they do this kind of fan service (another example of how they often are very aware of what fans think and often moreso than they let on), yet ignore much more sensible fan wishes and keep going with their typical inexplicable attitude, while delivering this sort of thing with so little proper thought is so typical GF, and so revealing of their infuriating half clueless/half careless attitude.

-A funny thing they said in the interview was that they themselves saw Samson oak as an Alola form.
-They also said megas were confined to the postgame.

A few things about the demo:
-So basically it seem your mom is going to stay in the town hall for over a month waiting for the authorities to process that you have moved to alola… Stuck in literal bureaucratic hell. Is this demo attempting to pull of some lowkey Kafkaesque satire?
-I noticed if you battle while using poké ride, you wear ride gear in battle. That’s neat!!

So overall, though I’m quite happy with most of the last few pokémon we discovered (though not with the alolan forms or UBs), I’ve really been let down by the dismal amount of new pokémon. I’m not gonna sugarcoat it, that has ruined gen VII to me to some extent. I’m still gonna massively enjoy the games and discovering what’s in them, but the whole promise of this lush new world full of unknown pokémon to discover just got killed, and there’s no way I’m gonna feel as hyped as I was about these games again.

On a final note (and wow, congrats if you read up to here, or dang, even if you made the effort to scroll, you crazy?), I’d absolutely love it if this weren’t the full pokedex, I really would, more than anything. I would give anything to have fossils, more evos, and more unknown lines to discover. But the fact is, I think the people who believe we’re in for more are just deluding themselves, as people did back when we discovered XY’s pokémon count, and they’re just setting themselves up for dissapointment. I’d rather not do that, I’ve already been hurt enough :'( .

    • Your post seems mostly like a rant. I am also disappointed by the fact that we are getting over 100 new Pokemon, but I do appreciate the fact that the game devs went through the difficult process of improving the graphics, and creating a new engine for the game. As for there not being new fossil pokemon, that is pretty lame, but not every region needs fossils. Johto was just fine without new fossils. Hopefully the next generation has fossils though. I do wish that we would of gotten more alolan forms, but we can look forward to the Gen 4 remakes and having Sinnoh forms of certain pokemon.

      • Yeah, I can definitely see that, it is a rant in many ways, but it’s all backed up by thoughts and arguments, so a rant is really only a faithful representation of my opinion.
I’d disagree vehemently that not every region needs fossils, johto may have not had any, but it was essentialy Kanto.5 in may ways, and more importanly we’ve had fossils each gen since gen 3, so there’s no excuse but the usual GF shrug we must imagine they make each time they make a boneheaded decision.
But yeah, hopefully we get Sinnoh forms (which I’d actaully expect to be of Gen V/VI pokémon, which could be really cool.. except they’ll turn 40% of them into jokes at this rate) if we get gen IV remakes this gen, and a few new megas would be nice too.

        • You know Sinnoh forms are going to be great. I suspect that sinnoh forms will be for pokemon from Unova and Kalos, and potentially Hoen. I hope we don’t see any other Kanto pokemon getting buffs other than the Machop line because they honestly need a little love. I am expecting North and South version of Shellios and Gastrodon as well. I understand that its your opinion back up by fact. I am hoping that they will add 3 fossils in the gen 8 games. They could of made a few fossils for Alola, but they decided to try to follow the history of the Hawaii islands. They could of made a Sabertooth tiger or a Mammoth for the island that has the snowy area or a new water fossil, but I guess they decided against it. Though the Sinnoh remakes will hopefully make up for it. Also there seems to be too many 1 stage pokemon this gen, which makes me believe that they could possible pull a gen 4 in gen 8 by evolving some of this stand alone pokemon.

          Reply
          • I’m not confident we’ll get gen IV remakes this gen, patterns can be hard to discern at this point but we’d at least expect them to be on the Switch, which would imply a massive graphical overhaul. If we do, and we do get sinnoh forms, I think it’d be most logical to get Unova and Kalos pokémon only as they don’t involve any retcon, though they could very well add johto or hoenn mons.
I’m honestly sick of the “geological history of alola” argument, there’s many reasons why it’s bullshit, the main ones being that hawaii does have some fossils, and that fossil pokémon for other gens are in the Alola dex. No fossils this gen is just one of those random idiotic GF decisions that make nos sense, and I’m not gonna let them get away with any excuses.
As for gen 8 being like gen IV, that would be amazing but I just don’t believe it can happen judging by the direction GF has been taking in past years. I guess our best hope now for having fewer standalones is that idea that this isn’t the full pokedex, but that seems like wishful thinking to me

          • That is all very true. If we don’t get sinnoh remakes I think people would be mad. I think we could possibly be getting a game on the switch based off of the region where yungoos and gumshoo come from. I think were pretty likely to get a fossils if thats the case. Switch gives them an opportunity to redeem themselves. I would also like some more steel types. I am just honestly happy that weather wars are nearly over. I am getting a little tired of primal groudon and primal kyorge.

  255. The Pre-evolutions for Solgaleo and Lunala are mostly confirmed to be part of an evolution chain that evolves into the Box legendary, not separate Pokemon. This is supported by the datamine.

  256. I don’t get why people say the Spider thing is a Bug ice type… it looks nothing like an ice type to me. Is it the light blue orbs on its legs? if i had to be honest it looks more Water or electric then ice. but the electric part or water part of my guesses could be based on similar assumptions as the ice typing for it.
