Riddler Hints at Salandit’s Evolution & MORE

salanditWe are getting close to Pokémon Sun & Moon’s release and will be using our spoiler image more often to warn people about information they may not want to see.

Today’s post is about the Chinese Riddler who has recently teased information about the evolution of Salandit, one of the Pokémon revealed this summer. They have said that it will relate to one of four characters: a kyūbi (9-tailed fox), Cleopatra, the gorgons or a siren. The below image was included in his post:

img_1366In the description of Salandit, many fans noticed that it mentioned females being able to produce pheromones capable of attracting males of any species, Pokémon and human alike.

See any resemblance to one of those in its appearance or lore? Post your sleuthing and theories down in the comments!

In addition they stated that we do not know everything about the Alolan starters, even after seeing their second evolutions and the leaked third stages. Mysterious!

  1. So I was watching the new Legendaries trailer, and I noticed a text balloon from an NPC called Ilima who said ”and my trial”. So that means there are more than 4 Trial Captains?

    • Yep, this was disqussed yesterday a fair bit. I personally hope they are Ice or Dark type so if they are revealed they might show one of those types with them. Of course “and my trial” could be totally unrelated and be a bit of a red herring.

      • Ehh Ilima is Hawaiian for flower, its also a feminine name. So probably female and perhaps a Fairy-type captain. We have a few Fairy type flowers like the Flabebe line and Comfey

          • Ah didn’t know that, thanks for the information 🙂 I would actually like a combination of both types, change things up. Either way they can have one of the Cutiefly line.

    • Plenty of example of evolution designs that doesn’t make sense. Not like Game Freak has ever cared about that lol.

Medusa was known for her beauty until she was cursed, nine-trailed foxes are often portrayed as beautiful women, Cleopatra was seen as beautiful in here time and has still remained an image of beauty into our modern lexicon, and Sirens are usually shown to be beautiful, leading sailors to their death.

All of them at some point did use their beauty to manipulate men in some way, some worse then others. So who knows.

  2. Perhaps it’s yet another split evolution, this time for genders. As long as it’s not a Vespiquen situation it should be good. Out of those 4 the Kiyubi and Gorgon seem most likely to influence the evolution. The siren would be to do with the pheromone luring. Not sure on Cleopatra beyond a Greek/Egyptian theme.

  3. Concerning that post though I don’t know too much about Kyubis or Cleo’s charisma and Sirens could only affect males and Salandit is a reptile so I’m gonna go with Gorgon ?

    Reply
    • Actually Sirens can affect any gender. They transform into whatever their prey desires most in a lover and then lure them in with their song.

  4. Was expecting Salandit to evolve, but not in this way lol. Out of all the options, I would say the Gorgon looks the most realistic for an evolution of Salandit.

  5. By the way, the data broadcasts for the last 3 episodes of XYZ have been released.

    Dedenne
    Yveltal
    Stunfisk

My guess is that Dedenne is the farewell episode, Yveltal the XYZ special and Stunfisk perhaps a return of Iris and Cilan? Or just Cilan?

    • “Hey, Cilan! So where have you been?” “I was in Kanto and I met an amazing breeder, his name was Brock” “Brock?” “Yeah” “I used to travel with him, he used to cook food for us” “GASP”

  6. Based on the description of Salandit from the website I’d say either Cleopatra or the gorgon are pretty safe bets. If it’s really the gorgon I wonder how they’d implement the snake hair part. I can’t imagine Salandit all of a sudden growing a bunch of snakes out of it’s hair lol

  7. I’m just hoping he’s right about the BF, if that was what he was hinting at. Also the starter thing makes me think “dual evos?” but in reality it’s probably a Z form.

    Reply
    • Idk if it’d be Z forms/moves or whatever. I feel like it’s supposed to be something special. If it’s just Z forms/moves then in the future any of the other starters could potentially get therm. However, if it’s split forms for the final evos then that’s forever and would set the gen 7 starters apart from all the rest making them REALLY special.

  8. What if he/she is just trolling us, and Salandit gets a fourway evolution, taking from each of those four sources for inspiration? Kind of like a Tyrogue-type branch evolution?

  9. I’m getting pretty tired of this person’s riddles honestly…if they’re not going to tell us then what’s the point? The game is a month away and it’s not like they’re giving us anything to go by.

    • I think it’s an issue of the leaker’s ego. They probably get off on that “I told you so” feeling, even if they never actually reveal their true identity.

      Reply
    • I think legal issues might be a problem. If he/she flat out said it, they’d get shut down by Nintendo.
Alternatively, it’s just more fun this way.

    • I think its pretty obvious that the riddler is a Game Freak employee or is directly involved with one. If they flat out reveal direct information, they could get into some serious trouble.

      Reply
        • Exactly, and that is their “barrier” of sorts. That’s what they have to hide behind if they do somehow manage to get caught. All they have done is given us hints as to what they are. They aren’t anything anyone can actually come to a concrete image of which can be frustrating, but I think it’s pretty cool to speculate about whatever it may be.

          Reply
        • But they have foreshadowed on almost everything that has been revealed so far. Its not a coincedence anymore. You can’t be just lucky guessing all this info

  10. Since the leaker stated in the same rumour that we don’t know everything about the starters yet, what if one of the images is abou salandit and the other three are actually about the starters?

    Reply
    • Hmm it’s possible. The siren would obviously be for Popplio. And that image of Cleopatra had a bird-like headdress, so maybe that’s another evolution for Rowlet. And then the gorgon could be a Litten evolution since some speculated Fire/Poison.

      Reply
      • Hm wouldn’t make much sense for the riddler to include the siren though, since we already know this will probably be Popplio’s final evolution. Why include another form for Rowlet’s final evolution and possibly Litten’s but not include another for Popplio’s?

        Reply
    • Unlikely because he did two separate posts. The first one was about Salandit and who among the four in the pictures served as an inspiration for it. The second post dealt with the starters.

  11. Description-wise, Madusa evolution makes the most sense. However, my initial reaction was that it might have the cleopatra evolution. For some reason, I can see Salandit taking on an Egyptian-inspired look.

  12. What is there more to know? We have a kinda decent one, a transgender one and the standard fire/fighting looking one. Unless they have alternative forms (which is unlikely), we shouldn’t keep any hopes at all about them.

    Reply
    • Why did you describe Popplio and its evos as transgender? Just because it’s more feminine? I’m sorry, as a trans woman, I just found that comment irritating… You wouldn’t describe a female Machoke or a male Gothitelle as transgender, so why do that to Popplio and Brionne?

  13. my original idea was a fat disgusting Komodo Dragon like Pokemon that constantly oozes flammable slimes/mucus from its back and tail and spit vile purple toxin enriched flames

it gushes a flammable mucus onto its prey and all around it and ignites it, its skin is extremely fireproof that it can even sleep in an inferno and not feel the pain, and its vile mouth is filled with horrifyingly high levels of bacteria that few can live after being bitten

    Reply
      • Well it’s a salamander and a Komodo dragon would feel acceptable and I’m sick of seeing overzealous evolutions, that it needs a flashy gimmick to survive in this age of hyper criticism (don’t deny it) but I want to see a fat disgusting grungy Lizard who’s vile habits speak for itself

      • If i catch anyone insulting one of the best pokemon, i gotta interfere. First ones free: you didnt realise how amazing Purugly is. I get it.

        Reply
    • It may be of interest to know that Komodo Dragons actually have very good dental hygiene, contrary to popular belief. The bacteria in their mouths is no more than many other carnivores. They do however have a form of Venom.
Not sure if it being fat would fit it’s bandit theme.

  14. BREAKING: Pokenchi to have a ”huge presentation” on Sun and Moon game & anime info on October 16th (Serebii on Twitter)

    Reply
    • So what’s new? You don’t really expect them to reveal anything do you? They’ve had “special presentations” for months. :/

      Reply
      • It doesn’t specify whether its new info or not. Its most likely just a big recap of what has been revealed in recent weeks though.

  15. Wouldn’t surprise me considering Salandit is based off of bandits, and grave robbers and bandits were huge back in Egypt and even more so after the fall of its empire.
