RUMOR: CoroCoro to Reveal Alolan Arbok?

PLEASE REMEMBER: Rumors are for discussion and should be considered false until official information confirms their contents. They are posted for discussion and enjoyment purposes only 🙂

An anonymous poster on 2ch claims to have seen the October issue of CoroCoro, a Japanese comic magazine, and says that the latest issue shows Alolan Ekans and Arbok. They’ve given a few details about it and here are the translations:

  • Alolan Ekans & Arbok are Fighting-type
  • Their abilities are Fighter Skin, which makes Normal-type moves Fighting and increases their power by 30% (ala Pixilate, etc), and Shed Skin
  • Alolan Arbok is light brown and bigger in size than its normal counterpart, but lacks any pattern on its body
  • It is a Pokémon Sun exclusive and the CoroCoro issue also reveals that Alolan Sandslash is a Moon exclusive

UPDATE:

Adding in other rumors from 2ch, newest rumors will be added to the bottom. The Alolan Electabuzz & Magmar rumor was preceded by a typo so I think I consider this much shakier than the above Arbok rumor. It would also leave questions regarding their evolutions as well.

  • Alolan Electabuzz revealed, new form looks similar to the pudgy Shinto god Ebisu
  • Brought electricity to Alola and is seen as a guardian-type figure
  • Electric/Fairy-type
  • Has the abilities Friend Guard/Healer
  • Alolan Magmar
  • It walks on all fours and is covered in vines; covered itself in vegetation as a way to survive in the jungles of Alola
  • Fire/Grass-type
  • New ability that reduces the effectiveness of its opponents attack when it switches to a teammate in battle (teammate will take less damage when it switches in)

Furthermore, one of the posters has promised to post pictures of the issue tomorrow at 7PM Japan Standard Time. Hopefully they’re telling the truth 😉

  1. Something that I was wondering about:
Why do we have normal prevolutions of Alolan Forms? It doesn’t make sense at all if a Fire/Ghost Marowak (adapted to its surroundings) got a Ground Cubone. Do you think they will eventually show the whole evolution lines being Alolan Forms? It just bugs me because it’s one of the things that makes least sense in Sun and Moon yet.

    • Well the thing is there is a certain sort of logic in it. IN the Cubone case, its a reference to a Hawaiian folklore. Basically its said that at night a band of wandering fallen warriors walk the islands, protecting the people while they sleep. If you encounter them at night, you must bow your head to them, otherwise they’ll see you as a foe and kill you on the spot, adding you to their ranks. The only way to survive without bowing is if a member of your family is already among them, as they can vouch for you.

The same idea applies here. Their ghosts that aim to protect their decedents from their natural foes, grass types.

      • Sounds fair. I just hope they’ll make a Fire(/Ghost) Cubone since it’d make more sense in my eyes.
Just watched the other Alolan Forms and they all share a type with their prevolutions (Raichu electric, Exeggutor grass, etc.) so they can stay the way they are now.

        • Their not though. The entire idea of Marowak’s alolan form is to become a fire type that protects the little cubone’s that can’t defend themselves against grass types. That would kind of defeat the purpose of that flavor text if they made an Alolan cubone.

          • Alola formes are basically Pokemon’s version of animals adapting to their enviroment, you should see it like that.

          • Yeah I know and that’s why at first I didn’t get the fact a Fire/Ghost type would get a Ground type since it got adapted.

          • No worries. DF has really been on point with its flavor text explaining the Alolan Forms. Really other then Raichu, most people love them. Raichu on the other hand is something that Science simply can’t explain. Most readers though read it as it ate to many pancakes.

  2. I know that usually we get starters evo the month before the game are out, but if these starters really have some secret to share with Rockruff, they shoud be revealed before. I mean if it’s true thar corocoro will reveal rockruff evolution secret it would be really mean from them to say: This is what will happen but wait two months to see it”

  3. So with all this arbok rucus i just discovered that the pokedex entry that mentions arbok having different patterns between regions is true, arbok’s sprites and models have never been the same betweem each game, it’s not important but it’s a neat little detail i hadnt noticed 🙂

  4. The last bit of the Arbok rumor, specifically the part mentioning how it’s exclusive to Sun while Sandslash is exclusive to Moon, is what interests me most. If proven true by the next set of CoroCoro scans, then I believe it’s highly likely we will see an Alolan Arcanine, as we already have an Alolan Ninetales that’s been revealed. And correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think we’ve heard of any version exclusives apart from Totem Pokemon in trials. Either this is the month they reveal some or they are keeping it a surprise for release.

          • It was in the original R/G R/B games, not in yellow though. Apart from those (and GS) and their remakes I don’t think it ever has been since.

          • As I said Below. Red/Green, Red/Blue, Gold/Silver, and their remakes. Not in Yellow, not in RSE, not in DPPt, not in BWB2W2, not in XY, and not in any spinoffs.

          • RGB, FRLG and HGSS would all like a word with you. In all of them, the Vulpix line is in one, the growlithe line is in the other. If Arcanine is in the game, it would make sense for it to be a version exclusive.

Having said that, there are Famitsu scans that say that the Pokemon listed on the official site are found in their original forms, Arcanine inclusive.

          • Already discussed that with two other people. The games in which they are not version exclusive outnumber the games in which they are version exclusive, epecially if you don’t count remakes.

The rumour called for Arcanine to be water type, which would mean a version exclusive pairing between them wouldn’t make sense because one would be Ice type and one would be Water type, meaning they couldn’t occupy the same location. In the games in which they were version exclusive, they were both Fire type and both occupied the same location.

I would be inclined to agree with Famitsu on this one, it would be a waste uploading pokemon data just to take it down again and replace it with something else. As far as I’m aware, the sites haven’t done that so far.

  5. In all seriousness, we have over 40 new Pokemon so far, yet not one ice or dark type. CoroCoro better give us at least one of those, I’m itching to see a new ice type.

      • Pokemon Sun & Moon:

        – Number of Pokemon we’ve known thus far: 42

        – Number of Alolan Pokemon: 10

        – Number of Pokemon w/ supposed evolutions and guardians: 56

        – Number of Alolan Pokemon + known Pokemon + Ultra Beasts: 53

        – Number of Pokemon altogether: 67

          • Precisely. The megas were worse though because the pokemon can’t stay in mega form indefinately.

When it comes down to it pokemon games are about the story, the landscape and the new pokemon, not matter how many gimmicks get thrown at it. (Pokedex and metagame included in ‘pokemon’)

          • True, although I’m not going to lie, part of why Gen 5 is so great to me is due to the huge number of pokemon. But Gen 6 actually would’ve been stomachable if the story was good too. It has probably the best regional dex of any game we’ve seen.

          • I felt the G5 pokemon were quite hit and miss. Some I loved (like Galvantula and Zebstrika) but others I thought were just plain weird (like Sigilyph). And I didn’t like the way some of them closely paralleled G1 pokemon. Gigalith=Golem, Gurdurr=Machamp, Garbador=Muk.

          • Yeah, some of them were downright bad. But I think the goods outweighed the bad, at least to me. With Gen 6 had so little that the bad ones were about even with the good, which is why I feel meh about them all.

          • Only one I hated is Avalugg (and maybe Sylveon and Barbaracle), everything else I like or am okay with. Some were pointless like Dedenne and Carbink, but some became my favourites like Aromatisse, Pangoro, Gogoat, Talonflame, Aurorus and Trevenant.

G5 had gems like Galvantula, Jellicent, Eelektross, Chandelure, Heatmor, Genesect and Swoobat, (and maybe Zoroark) but everything else was really mixed.

Cryogonal and Beartic are two of my most hated pokemon, the Haxorus line is one of my least favourite dragon lines, Amoongus ruined what could have been a cool mushroom pokemon, Garbador and the ice creams were bad, Archeops got ruined by its ability (otherwise it would be my favourite fossil pokemon), Maractus is ugly, Sigilyph is ugly, Basculin is pointless… the list goes on.

    • Right? I’m getting a little peeved. Unless there’s an amazing dark/electric type, this might be the worst generation for dark types.

  6. Typings/Pokemon I want to see in Sun/Moon:
    – Fairy/Poison: a Fairy Pokemon banished to the human world, forever destined to live in the pollution and darkness of the mortal world
    – Dragon/Bug: a European dragon Pokemon with antennas and huge dragon-fly like wings that gleam with multiple colors
    – Steel/Normal: a mouse Pokemon inspired by a computer mouse with a long wire for a tail and metallic fur that can morph shape depending on the situation (sharp, dull, needle-like, etc…)
    – Psychic/Electric: an atom Pokemon with a psychic field and electrons and protons around it
    – Bug/Ice: a parasitic bug that lives off by draining the life force of other Pokemon by taking advantage of its small size and due to its similar appearance to a snow flake, these bug Pokemon fall down from the skies akin to snow flakes and then latch onto their host

  7. Last post before my extended nap (so if I dont respond, you already have your answer) but how would a Poison/Fairy type work? What would it be? Its literally the only type combination I have a hard time to imagine.

  8. I think it was TrueGreen7 or Jehtrotex who had the idea, but a water/poison Alolan Ekans and Arbok based on sea snakes would be super cool. Alolan Garchomp as a water dragon true shark would be cool too

  9. I’d just like to preface this week with a little precautionary apology. If the NX reveal event does in fact get announced tomorrow (or another time this week), I’m probably going to post multiple nonsensical paragraphs and GIFs out of sheer excitement. This is the first week where every party agrees it could happen. The NX has been the first console that I’ve been involved with, rumor-wise, from the very beginning. Seeing it finally get announced will be a huge moment for me and many other devoted Nintendo fans. To tie this in with Pokemon, if CoroCoro leaks tomorrow/tonight as well, combined with that announcement…I don’t know if I could take it.

      • People think it will be this week for multiple reasons. First, Gameblog.fr (the outlet which leaked the Playstation Meeting) believed that this was the reveal week. Second, TGS 2016 happens starting on Wednesday, and many believe that they will want to reveal NX projects. Third, no recent major console has gone less than 6 months from reveal to release. Fourth, a certain well-known Neogaf poster has said that he was told that this was the week. So, there’s a brief lesson for anyone not in the know.

  11. ok so I lied. I went ahead and beat skyward sword before the wind waker. why? because it was eating away at me that I always started but never beat that game (and ive always 100% every single Zelda game ive ever played) but this time I beat it and 100% it. gotta say, I see where all the hate from this game comes from. I legit fell asleep numerous times during my play through. not all was bad though, I absolutely loved the ancient cistern and the boss fight in it, Koloktos, and I just wish the entire game was of that caliber. Oh, and Peatrice <3 alrighty, wind waker next, this time I promise.

      • …yeah no. every single dungeon except for the ancient cistern and every single boss except for koloktos was forgettable. nothing sticks out as much as, say, lakebead temple and goron mine from twilight princess, shadow temple from ocarina of time, snowhead temple of stone tower temple from majora’s mask, dark palace from a link between worlds, or earth temple from the wind waker. they recycled bosses way too often, you fight 2 of them 3 times for pete’s sake. the wonky motion controls worked like 95% of the time, which may look good, but any programmer worth his salt would be fired and ridiculed if his button inputs only work 95% of the time, which is why they give you 6 hearts at the beginning, to mask the fact that you will be getting hit due to the poor controls. there were way too many segments where the joystick SHOULD have been used instead of the motion controls (a lot of flying and swimming, where the joystick was not used at all would have been much less of a headache) the story was not good, it was a very bad attempt at explaining the master sword, but because they did this the game turned into a huge series of fetch quests. and girahim… I liked him, but god was he written terribly. heck there’s one time that you see him at the first time gate where he pretty much says “i shoulda got you last time, and I could get you this time, but i’ll get you next time!” for no reason! if he could have stopped link (which he very well could have) then why not? and don’t give me that he needed link to find the second gate, because he didn’t know link was going to do that. FI…. UGHHHH…… its ridiculous how much she holds your hand. she even explains things to you even after you tell her you don’t need an explanation. a good example is, after you open a chest with an important item, the game gives a brief text based tutotial on how to use it. then immediately after Fi will pop out and repeat what you just read in her annoying robot like way. she interrupts the flow of gameplay so much its ridiculous. explaining goddess chests to me after ive already opened 20 of them?!? really?!? it made me glad to see her sealed in the sword where no one can hear her talk. back to the motion controls, they made the game lack enemy variety becase every enemy is based on blocking your hits. and to increase the difficulty, those enemies just learn new ways to block yoiur attacks. even basic enemies like mobokins are such a chore that the easiest way to deal with them is to back up charging a skyward strike, hit them with it, then use the finishing move, which wouldn’t be necessary if they didn’t always know where you are going to hit them. I could keep going on and on about how disappoint this game was (dowsing, time shift stones and how that made no sense, hylia’s dumbass plan that made no sense and had like 6 plot holes in the span of a 3 minute sutscene…. F*cking Fi…. god she was annoying) but I think ive gone on long enough.
