Greetings Junglers, Evan here! I’m bringing you the end of the Gym Leader Showdown-series. I had a lot of fun creating this series and I hope you had fun reading it. If so, there might be another series coming…

So, let’s not skirt around it any further. I’ll give you the winner of the Gym Leader Showdown.

It’s Volkner! He won with 24,7% of the votes. He is a very popular Gym Leader among our community apparently!Sinnoh - Volkner

  4. I’ve been trying to find substantial evidence for or against the latest batch of rumors, and I think I may have found something. With every Alolan form we’ve gotten, the species name hasn’t changed. Vulpix is still the Fox Pokemon, and Meowth is still the Scratch Cat Pokemon. Every Alolan form has had an ambiguous species name that allows for possible changes without affecting the name. However, if Koffing becomes a Fire-type, how can it still be the Poison Gas Pokemon? How can a Ground-type Grimer still be the Sludge Pokemon?

    • Maybe the species names of Alolan Pokémon we know of haven’t changed since these Pokémon weren’t in need of a different species name.

      • Maybe, but that just strikes me as odd because the chance seems slim that all of the ones we’ve gotten fit that criteria, unless of course it was planned.

    • You have a point there which means if your correct Growlithe could still get one yet Abra really can’t turn Fighting due to being the Psi Pokemon

        • I actually hope Abra won’t get one it would ruin its entire basis of being switching from being a master of the Mind to going to Master of The Martial arts

    • This is a very interesting theory. I looked up their Japanese categories too and it checks out. Given we do have so few revealed so far it could well just be a coincidence but what it does mean is that Growlithe and Arcanine fit into this trend too where their category wouldn’t contradict their type. In any case the category part is sort of a taxonomic label to aid in identification of that particular pokemon so if an Alolan species changes affinity completely or develops a very prominent trait I could see them giving it a new category. It is hardly gamebreaking :p

  6. Going back to the Mega Magearna Article that was only popular for a few hours till worlds began does anyone think it’s Farfetched to give another Mythical that already had a movie but gets a Mega after.

    Interestingly enough, switching Clair and Wallace would basically be my thought on these six.

    Both times I voted for Volkner and he won.

    • Yas!! imo Johto had like the best Gym leaders, I love all of them except chuck and Falkner and even then they are pretty good

  17. Holy cow! The orange league were basically trials!!!! I was just looking on bulbapedias gym leaders page and saw them and how ash has to do it and go around the island is so similar to the trials in Alola! How did I not notice this before :O

  20. Clair and Wallace got in 3rd and 4th… goes to show how you have to be edgey or literally a model to win these… geez, Volkner is so boring

      • Yeah, same. And no one talks about him either, until now for some reason. He is really bland for an electric leader too. Lt Surge is an army dude, Wattson is a chubby mall owner, Elesa is a super model, and Clemont literally lives in the Prism Tower and is a scientist. Volkner is just another edgey, blond, and depressed cry-baby

        • I guess it’s just everyone’s opinion, I respect them for what they choose. But most of the gym leaders on this list are ones that are barely talked about, (except Wallace) like you said.

          • Fair enough. Wallace and Iris became champions. But the point stands. Wanting to Challenge the E4 was a part of Volkners story in DP.

            Also his relationship to an E4 member (Flint) added an interesting dynamic.

            Volkner actually had his back story shown which explained why his character was the way he is. Granted Sabrina also had this to an extent.

          • Yeh. I’m just saying Volkner is interesting enough to justify him winning the poll. He has enough of a story, in my opinion.

            Obviously I have my own personal favourites.

          • I guess he has enough of a story, but not the most story out of the 6 here
            Not saying wallace had the most, but valerie had some

          • hers was like all in the anime and very little in the game, I love hers though, her ability to talk to pokemon by loving and understanding them is just top notch

          • her battle with ash in the anime had so much skill put into it and like even ash was giving it his all during it, that doesn’t happen often lol

          • I think they were each equal in terms of story. I won’t say any of them were boring, but obviously there are some I prefer over others, and that’s what ends up deciding the poll.

          • Valerie had a backstory and a dynamic explanation of her character too both inside and outside the games but everyone still loves to hate on her so I don’t think its going to change much, Volkner won, not everyone is gunna like it but it is how it is. 😛

          • With Valerie, it’s not about her story, I just dislike her design to be honest. Also being in a fashion show is slightly lower on my list than having the ability to design technologically advanced structures. But that’s where opinion comes into it I guess 😉

          • She’s a designer, not just in a fashion show, I mean, artistry is what makes the world go round, you cant escape it, its in science as well to an extent and designing advanced structures, they are both designers just of different things, so theres that, its human expression. Her design though imo is really top notch, where volkners is extremely boring, but thats because our tastes differ, and thats ok.

          • That’s fair 🙂 I’m more of a science geek myself than an artist, so I guess my opinion makes sense in that regard.

    • So Volkner was basically like any other Gym Leader. Fascinating.

      Volkner was shown as someone incredibly talented, to the point where he lost interest because couldnt find a serious challenge. The only Gym Leader who expressed interest in actually moving forward in his career by Challenge the E4.

      In the Anime he was responsible for designing much of Sunnyshores advanced technology including Sunnyshore Tower.

      I guess you can always find enough of a story for a character if you look hard enough. And it’s easy to write off a character you don’t like by saying they’re ‘boring’.

    • Please. If Clair had won, you would have said “Of course a girl won. This is more of a which girl is the hottest contest.” Admit it.

    • tbh, Clair is kind of edgy, more so a spoiled brat that had a tantrum when you beat her.
      I love her design (also, some people could argue she looks like a model) and a bit of her personality, but that kind of turns off people. It’s why I love Jasmine over Clair.
      Volkner took his loss in stride. Heck, he was happy to lose cause it meant he wasn’t the strongest. He was bored because he lost the thrill, and losing to a decent opponent can do that to you.

  23. I have a feeling the next Sun/Moon reveal vid will be released on Friday, September 9th. Most videos have been revealed on a Monday or Friday, and are typically released to beat out the Corocoro leaks.
