Greetings Junglers, Evan here! I’m bringing you the last regional Gym Leader Showdown, after which the grand finale will take place! But first: the winner of last week is Elesa! She won with 21% of the votes, which is a lot considering the amount of Gym Leaders in Unova. She’s followed by Marlon (14%) and Skyla (13%).

  3. I’m actually really, really glad that Sun and Moon are seemingly getting rid of the E4 and Champion, along with presumably Victory Road. Black and White is the only pokemon title to really care the story all the way through till the end, but all of the other ones seriously drop off once you beat the villain team. It makes the game less interesting if all you’re doing is beating a bunch of trainers with no plot to carry the game forward. It’s a good thing, in my opinion, that they’re revamping the structure of the game, I just hope the Trial Captains and Kahunas are worthy successors of the Gym Leaders.

    • I think these new games will be a breath of fresh air. Fro the first time I won’t know basically exactly how the game goes. It’ll be more surprising and that to me i s a good thing. Ultimately I think it’ll still be a rather safe game. GF isn’t exactly known to be crazy outgoing after all lol Either way it’ll definitely be super fun I think. Also I don’t think it’s been said in a while, but I remember people a couple of months ago saying that without a typical league the game would be shorter. I think that idea is silly. The idea of the games being shorter without a league only make sense if GF don’t put in something to replace it. Which they clearly have lol Anyway I can’t wait for November!!!

      • I know, I’m really excited! I think the Trial Captains could all turn out to be nice characters. I’m most excited for the Water (?) girl. But I don’t think the game will be shorter without a league. The islands are still pretty large and we’ll get to explore it all!

    • I’m just glad we’re getting something different. Yes the Gym Leader & E4 is a tried and tested method, and it works to some extent, but sometimes you gotta put yourself out there, take chances.

      • This is obviously based on “Oooh, she’s a guuuurrlll, she haaawwwt… she my favorite” I want people to actually look into the gym leaders, look at their beliefs, dreams, how much you relate to them, not just because they have da booty

        • I noticed that from the Gen 1 poll where everyone was ogling over Sabrina, and it was pretty apparent in the Gen 5 one with Elesa and Skyla.

          There have been people in the comment advocating Wulfric for Pete’s sake.
          Aside from which there’s a 50/50 chance of someone picking a female because 4 of the 8 leaders are female.
          And
          frankly nobody’s going to pick the old man, and the rock climber has
          probably been forgotten, meaning Wolfric and Clemont are the only real
          male contenders.
          If you looked you’d see there have been a lot of people advocating Wolfric.

          • Yea, I support Wulfric. But when you see the shallow, skin-deep females win by a landslide, yeah, it gets old

          • So basically this is because people aren’t voting what you want them to vote for?

            I voted Valerie because her gym is a cool tree/mansion combo and her underlings are snappy dressers.

            I didn’t vote Wulfric because his team contains an Avalugg and he doesn’t have much going for him beyond a cool beard.

            As for Clemont, his robo arm contraption is just plain weird.

            Korrina was meh, but gets voted for a lot because she’s the only one with a major role outside her gym.

            Olympia had a neat cape and purple hair.

            Viola was also pretty forgettable.

          • Elesa provides some solid advice within the context of the game. She may be a model, but I think she’s a solid gym leader. Sabrina has almost nothing going for her within the games on the other hand.

          • Lol yeah she did. She helped stop her dad from dragging her back home. Now that I think about it, Sabrina was lame in the show too. In the manga she was evil. -cough- Misty was cheated -cough-

          • It’s not so much about the votes themselves. It’s the comments that people leave to justify their choice.

            Comments like ‘Sabrina, she’s hot’ e.t.c. Fair enough if that’s how you choose your favourites, I can’t really say much.

          • I can’t even find comments about the votes anymore, people went overboard discussing mega evolutions. I found one comment about clemont, but other than that it’s all too deep.

            I haven’t looked at the other threads, I’m basing my assumptions on what I saw here earlier in the day.

          • I was lucky enough to get on the Gen 1 and the Gen 5 thread early and saw a lot of comments like that on those…not gonna scroll through all of them to prove a point though :p. It’s just what I noticed.

            Personally, I usually leave a few lines, to a paragraph just giving a quick explanation for my choice.

          • Only one or two.
            The same ones who semi regularly post Yaoi and discuss Guzma’s theoretical illicit relationship with Kukui.

          • I saw a couple more than 2, and I imagine there are also some other people who don’t comment here that voted because of that. There’s really no other way Wulfric would be so high.

          • Personally Wulfric was my favourite of the males and if Valerie hadn’t had such a cool gym it would have been between Wulfric and Olympia (Beard vs Cape).

          • Eh, I found him to be really forgetttable. His gym was like a one stop shop – go in, come out 5-10 minutes later with a new badge.
            I can’t even remember any of his pokemon.

          • Yeah I voted Blaine, Pryce, Wattson, Crasher Wake, Drayden and Wulfric. There’s no correlation there…

    • I don’t see how that has anything to do with this poll, I don’t think people are voting Valerie to the top for that reason, but because she is their favourite and my favourite, she’s also gorgeous and deserves to win for many reason 😛

          • Deviantart has masssive fetish communities. No pun intended.

            Besides, yaoi fans are into washboard abs muscle stuff and skinny dudes, which most people don’t consider weird despite still being a fetish purely because society tells us muscular bodies are something to strive for so it mostly passes as normal, even in the few cases where it’s steroids level exaggerated.

          • Exactly, my point is that you’re not exactly the type to be drawing the men with shirts off rubbing each other, but many are and they are out there 😛
            And they probably don’t like Brendan as much XD

          • But Brendan and May are both the protagonists of ORAS/RSE. So if I do Wulfric, I have to do Korrina or Valerie to compare, and If I do Kukui I have to do Juniper. I’m doing fair examples here.

            People’s sexual fantasies are not limited to the character’s roles within the game.

          • Brendan and Lucas I actually though were adorable as a kid tbh, I wanted them to have their own anime series and I think I actually wrote a story once that shipped Lucas x Barry and had them become members of team rocket… I was a weird kid

            tbh transexual has been offensive since like the 80’s, any term that was used to put an entire group of people down and belittle them and bully them usually turns out that way…

          • How the hell is that considered offensive? It means ‘people that either have changed or are in the process of changing their physical sex’.
            I admit I missed out transgenders and went straight to the far end of the spectrum, but still.

            Besides, it’s not like we got taught any of this in school, you’ve got to be accepting of people slipping up/making mistakes when most of the population know next to nothing about all the intricate terminology involved. Expecting people to know all about the complexities of transgers is like me expecting everyone to know binary or who Larry Wall and Bjarne Stroustrup are.

          • I wasn’t getting mad at you simply stating it not really an ok word, and never really has been, a small group tried to reclaim it back in the day but its pretty much always been offensive, and not a term used by anyone in a good way, same with “tranny” I accept that not everyone is aware of that, I’m just trying to let you know, we never know who comes on here and Id like for everyone to feel safe and welcome, I’m not blaming you or trying to start a fight, just letting you know

          • Well, I’ve never met anyone who had an issue with it before, and yes I do actually know a transgender/transexual (I’m not sure how far he went since the majority of his changes were after I left his life), they never indicated any issue with it.

            One of the main reasons it’s so prominent is because of Frank N Furter from the Rocky Horror Show. Specifically the line “transexual transylvania” from one of the songs. (I don’t know which, I’ve never watched it, I just know the plot and a reasonable amount about the cultural impact. It was written by the guy who used to present the crysal maze).

            You will always get some people who are ok with things and some who aren’t. For example, in college there was a black guy in our class who not only had no issue with the N word, he practically encouraged us to use it and said “It’s only offensive if people intend it to be. If it’s just used casually it’s fine.”

            Personally I think the less people take offense at words, the harder it becomes to be offensive and the easier it becomes to be neutral or beneficial.

          • my 2 cents are that some people are always gonna be offended by things, and its good to try and minimize the potentially offensive thngs you say

          • But that means never ever swearing or using insults in case people take offence.

            To be honest the best solution is to just be grown up about the matter and if someone says something that someone actually takes to be offensive (not ‘might be’ offensive) then merely tell the person that was taken as offensive to give said person a chance to apologise and inquire as to why it was taken offensively.

            For example if someone makes a joke that was taken to be disrespectful it and they are given a chance to speak rather than just being branded as hateful, often it turns out to just be a misjudgement of the situation and the level of informality rather than intentional disrespect.

            Frankly if something is taken as offensive when it wasn’t intended to be there’s usually a miscommunication at the bottom of it. If something is intended to be offensive, it’s usually quite obvious and much rarer.

          • honestly this is so true, there are a lot of people out there (that frankly I feel just want attention) that cry wolf over the smallest things and go nuts over things, and its created an environment that is ruined for people who have a legitimate claim.

            There are problems on both sides, but we can strive to become better I think, its not impossible.

            I think next time I won’t even bother mentioning transgender/transexuals/whatever, I’ll just pretend they don’t exist.

            Frankly I think trying to say the right thing and getting it wrong is better than not caring at all, but I dunno. I give up, I’m going to just ignore the whole issue from now on, the discussions never end well.

          • Frankly though, everything on the internet should be taken with a pinch of salt.
            If people are actively insulting you, the adult thing to do is to simply block them.

          • well yes for different people, things are different but just because of that one black friend, you wouldn’t go up to another one of your black friends and do the same thing. I have been working with both LGBT youth and adults for a long time, while leading the GSA at both my high school, university and other groups. Several of my friends are trans, none of them are or would be ok with being referred to as transexual, as it was used to define a mental disorder that could be cured at one point back in the day, and the whole route of the word is entirely wrong for what it is supposed to describe because it has nothing to do with their sexuality, and the rocky horror picture show is and old film and hardly something I would look to for insight on the matter. Yes there are a lot of words out there that are offensive, some in varying degrees, but you should never use them if you know that you’re going to hurt someone around you or make them feel unwelcome, especially if they are youth because you never know what that person is going through, your use of a term that makes them feel alienated could be the breaking point that sends them to suicide. We should as people always strive to do our best to be kind to one another despite our differences, and avoid derogatory terms, just because you may not see the harm in it, it can still do more damage to someone then you may ever know. You cant tell people to take less offense to something because it really doesn’t work like that, for every 1 person that is easily offended by such things, there are 4 people who stay quiet and get hurt by it.

          • I started writing a response, but soon realised whatever I say won’t change anything and this argument would spiral out of control, so instead of a direct response, I’m going to attempt to end this in a mutually acceptable way.

            My world view is different from yours, neither of us are going to change our views.

            I’m sorry to say I have a very dismal view of the world and I’m quite apathetic. I wasn’t always that way, but life experiences have made me that way.

            I have nothing against transgender people, but I prefer to stay out of these matters because the waters are so muddy and it gets complicated fast, and always ends in arguments, never mutual compromise.

            Frankly you will probably never get me to understand why people take offence at certain words because most words considered typically offensive do not offend me as a result of my teenage years.

            Back in the playground I grew up in, if people got upset at being insulted with swear words they wouldn’t last long. Eventually pretty much everyone learned to disregard all the stereotypically most offensive insults. Ultimately insults are just insults, they can’t bring you physical pain.

            Lastly, there’s no need to tell me about suicide or depression. It’s the biggest killer of young males, more than diseases, more than murder, more than accidents. I’m quite familiar with them.

            As for striving to do one’s best to be kind, that’s nice in theory, but the reality is that it only works if everyone takes the same stance. There are a great many people out there who very much intend to cause harm. Letting their insults have meaning only makes them stronger. Ignore the offense and eventually they give up because what they’re saying doesn’t offend.

            Much like how using swears only have a shock factor because they’re considered things you’re not supposed to say. If you’re with a group that use them regularly, they’re no longer shocking, they’re just minor adjectives used for emphasis.

            I’m sorry if any of that seems cold or harsh, but I’d rather be honest. Ultimately this wouldn’t go anywhere and frankly I think this is a lot of fuss over what is just a word. As I said to kirakinn, next time I simply won’t include them at all, it’s easier than having to deal with all this guff for using the wrong word.

          • I liked Cilan though, he was adorable (in a non-sexual way thank you very much! lol) he had a really nice personality in the anime, but I wouldn’t pick him because the other two were horrible designed imo (awful hair)

            Let me get this straight, Marlon came second and the vote was still rigged by people voting for the sexiest female characters? If that’s the case, why is Marlon second and not Skyla or Roxie?

            (To be honest, Elesa would have been my second choice, she had an entire theme park to herself)

    Obviously Mallow is semi-confirmed but what of another? I don’t know if they’ll break up the demographic by also putting in the Sun and Moon Female Protagonist but who knows at this point, I would also say Hau but I don’t know he seems too much like Ash to begin with but who knows maybe they’ll invent a traveling partner for the group

    • I never understood the whole “my team is better than your team thing” like, what criteria do they have to base any of that one other than the colour and legendary? (yellow is my fav colour but I’m not gunna be omg the people with a different colour preference than me are inferior) maybe I’m missing a key point here 😛

I don’t know if everyone has heard about this, but the writers of Guardians of the Galaxy (Nicole Perlman) and Gravity Falls (Alex Hirsch) negotiated to write the plot of the Detective Pikachu Movie. Also, I’m looking forward to the gameplay tomorrow at 11:00AM EST. It’s going to be on Nintendo of Germany’s Twitch, be sure to tune in!

  25. Finally doing a Nuzlocke after months of saying I wanted to do one. Doing Leaf Green on an emulator (as I don’t like nicknaming my Pokemon in physical copies

    Currently at Misty’s with Smaug (Charmeleon), Boudica (Nidorina), Rainbow (Butterfree), Bella (Bellsprout) and Mystica (Kadabra)
    In the graveyard are Jerry (Rattata), Cpt Jack (Spearow) & Harambe (Mankey)

    I’m finding this actually pretty fun!
