RUMOR: Pokémon Sun & Moon Include 103 New Pokémon

alola-dex-rumorRUMOR ALERT: The information contained in this post is based on speculation, not fact. Please treat it as such and do not interpret it is confirmed news.

A user on an anonymous image board has posted what purports to be the full Alolan Pokédex, excluding new “Alolan forms” of previously released Pokémon. If it is correct, there are 103 new Pokémon in the Alola region which would be 30 more new Pokémon than X & Y and roughly the same amount as Gold & Silver. There are, however, many evolution families listed which appear to have different forms for the same Pokémon.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Screw. The. Leakers. I will not be covering the names or any other information about this “leak” because there is too much risk considering the advanced information that has already made its way to the public from the Chinese rumors. We’re still too far away from the release of these games to ruin everything for fans. There’s a difference between enjoying speculation and rumors (which we do) and spoiling everything online (which they do). There is a line of what I think is fun pre-release hype and what is stupidly early to reveal, and I think this is one of those things that crosses that for me. Hope you guys understand and perhaps even agree. If we hadn’t gotten such credible leaks this year I’d have no qualms about posting it for dissection.

  1. I’d be quite happy with this – the real question is how many new mega’s(if any) and how many alolan forms of old pokemon?

  2. Looked at the leak (don’t ask me for a link, not breaking PJ’s policy), and there’s a few odd things:

    – Malshadow as opposed to Marshadow, when Marshadow is exactly what they intended it to be called globally (no L, other details might change but not r vs l)
    – Salandit and Wimpod being midstages, despite being mid-20 wild encounters
    – Lurantis being near the bottom of the dex when it’s another early mid-20s encounter, this one mandatory with its pre-evo found in the Lush Jungle (that’s how Totem Pokemon work)

By CoroCoro this will be proved wrong or not

    • Oh, the vast majority of Pokemon gain a type upon evolution when cases like those are usually rare, aren’t they? We’re talking 3/4 of the dex being one type then gaining another after one or two evolutions.

S/He also didn’t include fossils…. So yeah, not buying it.

  3. The pic on the side is too blurry and eye-murdering to provide much more than the types, which is a great way to avoid the total spoilers I didn’t want despite the fact I couldn’t resist checking.
-Salandit as a middle evo works if you consider the name of it’s prevo tbh
    -Wimpod deffo makes little sense
-Also, no fossils to be seen, which is A) a red flag, or B)UNACCEPTABLE&#’ù%$£ >:( >:(

But yeah lack of fossils is making me think this is fake. And I dunno the types seem very fan listy don’t they?

  4. Made out the names Minior and Mightior, which, to be honest, sounds kind of legit. Still, can’t tell which ones would be the fossil pokemon, someone else pointed out that Marshadow is spelled Malshadow in this list (?) and the three final evolutions for the starters say water/ fire/ grass/ various, like water/ various, fire/ various and grass/ various, so is that meant to imply the starters do get more than one final evolution? I’m most interested in the ice types myself. Was trying to decipher the snowman pokemon names and there seem to be 2 other ice types in the list, a three stage line that’s bug/ ice whose final evo’s name is Flycicle which is very clever, and an ice/ fighting single stage poke whose name seems to be Crygo or Crypo (?). Would love a higher res picture or a link to the website or a hint or something….

      • Yeah I realize that now, I just never really put much thought into a possible evolution for minior until tonight :/ But yeah, you’re right now that I think of it. And that is a solid name of this leak is legit, like that’s a very catchy Pokemon name, so good job predicting that, and good job gamefreak for coming up with that. ?

  5. Great decision Pokejungle. I agree that there should be a difference between hyping and leaking everything.
Looking forward to see what CoroCoro will reveal this week.

  6. Hmmm, seems a bit odd. Also, is it just me or can anybody else see Drampa on the list (only looked to see if it had a pre-evo)? I have to admit I do like the idea of a Dark/Electric pseudo though…

  7. opss new Article I need to repeat that then.

This really Awesome theory how I didn’t notice that??….I was predicting his ability is making his opponent burnable to any fire move , I mean when he enter the battle he spit this green liquid from his mouth and then hit him with any fire move and that burn the foe.

  8. Well I just googled this… If the rumor about the starters and rockruff is true, than this would be an unprecedented yet exciting twist to the formula.

  9. Weruff (ROCK/VARIOUS) [ST/FY/DK/FT] ?

is that mean Weruff will be Steel, fairy, dark or fighting type I am not sure about fairy?

  10. Quakitt and Bonéné… I have a strong feeling this list might be real. I know anyone can look up Hawaii’s state bird and string together some names, but I don’t know… these sound/feel legit. Maybe I’m being a little bit bias though. I love nene geese (some live near my property) and ever since the announcement of 7th gen being inspired by Hawaii, I wished for a nene Pokemon. ANDDDDDD if this is real, it’ll be a fairy type, my favorite!!

    • I’m leaning on fake for this one (and want it to be because no fossils is just not okay at all), but I really want a Nene goose pokémon too. Hawaii, being an island, has loads of amazing endemics that would make great pokés. Plus it seems this gen they’re actually putting a lot of region-relevant pokémon such as Bruxish, Comfee and Yungoos, which is awesome!

      Reply
      • Hmmm, maybe there won’t be any this gen. Fossils can’t be found here in Hawaii because, well, there aren’t any lol

Dinosaurs and such were long gone (50million years to be exact) by the time the Hawaiian chain was formed.

        • I beg to differ :p, Hawaii has a bunch of wonderful subfossil (you’re right though not proper fossils per se 😉 ) species like Stilt-owls or the Moa-Nalo Goose-Ducks. Besides GF doesn’t follow geographical location for most of a generation’s pokémon. Since when have Koalas or Red Pandas been Hawaian native species?

  11. The are tons of rumors and supposed leaks regarding Sun/Moon but why did PokèJungle post this particular one? Is there any significance that other rumors/leaks don’t have? I wonder

  12. Perhaps the lack of fossil Pokémon in this list is due to there not being new fossil Pokémon this generation. Instead we receive Alolan variations of older fossil Pokémon to make up for it. I mean if there are variations of modern Pokémon there, then the likelihood of there being fossil variants is in my opinion even higher. Coming from a fossil fanatic, this is all actually more than okay with me. Hell any variant is okay with me to be honest. I want as many of them as possible. It’s just so thrilling!

    Reply
      • I am more than aware there aren’t any fossils in Hawaii. I do a great deal research in my spare time on prehistoric animals and what not. My thoughts on it are based on the fact that Alolan variants are the new big thing. You have been able to find older fossils in most games now along side the new ones so my guess basically boils down to their being a different type of fossil for the same Pokémon or rather some relative to it. For instance am Alolan Helix fossil is drastically different to the typical Helix fossil. I don’t entirely believe that they would go so far to make sure it was totally based off of Hawaii that they would leave the fossil Pokémon out. Since it is only based off of Hawaii and not literally Hawaii I believe they will put them in there purely because they are popular and more likely because they simply can.

        • okay, okay, I just wanted to restate my comment below without actually re-typing it! 🙂 You’re fossil idea actually sounds cool. I’d love to see an alolan tirtouga and carracosta! maybe make them more honu inspired? Ooo, with a grass typing (the ones where I live have loads of algae on their backs)!

          Reply
          • I could see that working. Personally Rampardos needs a bit of a miracle that an Alolan form could give to it. The possibilities are endless. 🙂

          • Personally I would rather megas than regional variants for the fossils.. No wait maybe that’s just my already formed ideas for them fighting to survive… Y’know what both is probably best haha.
Anyhoo I vote Rock/Dragon Dracorex-inspired Rampardos, that would be sick (though as you said, loads of pachys to pick from). They shouldn’t be afraid to make it proper dragon-like either, Primeval did it and it was awesome!

    • As a fellow fossil fanatic IMO Alola variations of previous fossils is just absolutely not gonna cut it for me in terms of getting my fill of new prehistoric species for this gen :p . Besides, I can only imagine them making species-based variations for fossils for gens IV and VI, unless they wanna go extremely niche. How the hell would they come up with palaeontologically interesting varations for Omastar and Kabutops apart from maybe unusual Ammonite and Trilobite species?
Even then that wouldn’t cut it form me, I need meh some more cool fossil creatures, especially as we haven’t had palaeozoic critters in a while, and we’ve never had anything Cenozoic. Wouldn’t need to be some Hawaiian subfossil species like Stilt-Owls or Moa-Nalos mind you, just something new and preferably not a dinosaur.

      Reply
      • I do agree that a Cenozoic fossil would be very interesting. I don’t see it happening this time though. As far as variants go, I could see there being plenty of ways to make variants of any of the previously released fossils. I personally see Generation 5 in my mind being prime candidates. But that’s just me. Perhaps I’m just dying for a reason to use Archeops lol.

        Reply
        • Yeah I can see a more raptor-like or conversely more bird-like archeops being a thing. Tirtouga and Carracosta would have to go for modern inspiration I guess. I adore the concept of Archen and Archeops (and I imagine you can sympathise with how gobsmacked I was to see the archeopteryx and archelon pokémon I had dreamed of as a kid brought to life in gen V), but I while I do like Archeops, something in it’s design doesn’t sit right with me and thus I kinda prefer Archen. That being said a variation could solve that!

    • To be fair, Fairy types were only introduced a generation ago. I’m sure that Game Freak wants to provide more variety for it (whether or not this list is real).
