August CoroCoro Leaking {UPD1}

The latest edition of Japanese comic magazine CoroCoro has been leaked and we are currently translating it for any new information 🙂

  • Bear is called Kiteruguma. It is described as cute yet deadly. It is classified as the powerful-arms Pokémon. It’s hug is dangerously strong and people in the Alola region regularly put warning signs out. It is Normal/Fighting with abilities Fluffy/Klutz. It’s name is possibly a play on words for “to wear” and “it’s here!”
  • Deflated Pikachu-esque Pokémon is Mimikkyu. It is a Ghost/Fairy type with the ability Disguise and is said to lurk in the darkness. It is classified as the bakenokawa (a veil hiding a monster) Pokémon. The body is black and the Pikachu-looking part is actually cloth-like and covers it from the sun. The article warns people about looking under its veil. It’s name seems to come from ears, mimic and ~kkyu (cute/timid sounding),
UPD1: A clearer scan of a section with Mimikkyu’s information has surfaced: “The reason that Mimikkyu resembles Pikachu…!? It modelled itself after Pikachu goods that were all the rage 20 years ago?! It seems it wants to make friends with humans just like Pikachu“.<3 PJ

  1. What do you guys think Fluffy and Disguise do? Fluffy sounds like a defensive ability and disguise could be similar to Zoroark or Ditto.

  2. The bear is like you chopped two gummy bears in half, and switched the heads. That’s what the color transition reminds me of.

  3. Mimikkyu is easily my favorite design of this generation, and among my favorite Pokemon of all time. . . Ghost/Fairy is the typing I would hope Lunala would grt, but I’m even more glad it was given to this disturbing beast. I. Freaking. Love. IT!!!

  4. I’m not trying to offend anyone who likes the bear, but as of now, this is literally my least favorite Pokemon ever in terms of design, beating the likes of wormadam and alomomola.

  5. Till now, I’ve loved all the concepts for the pokemon, but none of the designs have really appealed to me (except perhaps vikavolt). Both of these pokemon have amazing concepts. I love subversive designs. The bear subverts the masculine-fighting type association by being a cutesy fighting type (Much like lopunny-mega subverted the male-fighting type association). The ghost pokemon also subverts the usual expectation of design by wearing a Pikachu-garb and its true design essentially being a mystery. For the bear, I really hope the evolution (if it has one) has a better design, yet retains the cute aesthetic. For the ghost, I expect the final evolution to unleash it’s true form (much like hoopa-unbound).

    • I may be (I am) biased when it comes to Pokemon as I cannot bring myself to loathe any, but design wise, I feel as though Sun/Moon has brought a new level of creativity and thought towards Pokemon. The process of designing Pokemon has been evolving ever since the first generation and with each new generation, the designs have not only gotten better, but more creative. Generation 7 brings with it an odd blend with an odd pallete to boot of mixing the simplistic designs of Generation 1, 2, and 6 with the bright, exotic colors of Generation 3, the over-the-top aesthetic of Generation 4, to the abnormal and strange yet creative designs of Generation 5. I concur with your opinion as it is yours, but I’m simply sharing mine as well.

      • yes, yes of course, your opinion is equally valid 🙂 but, I hold the same bias, so I can’t say i’ve DISLIKED any of them. I see the creativity in the conceptualisation (such as vikavolt charging itself with charjabug and then letting it go to become lighter, which is clearly reminiscent of a space shuttle; Tapu-koko and the chicken head meta-design; the new bear and ghost), my only problem, and i may be nitpicking here, is with the execution. I feel like a part of the pokemon aesthetic was lost in gen 4 > 5 transition, though paving the way for a new sensibility altogether, and then somewhat reverting in gen 6, and yet that missing piece seems to have been lost for me. Of course, when the game actually comes out, the uniquely specific sunmoon aesthetic will soon become normalised, and then my opinion will change, but merely for the pre-release period, i feel a little bit of scepticism is warranted (as was with mega evolution, which turned out just wonderful.) on that note, I’m genuinely paranoid now that it won’t return this gen as we have seen absolutely no footage of even old megas in-game. 🙁

    • There was an idea written here where you can have the ability to change the cloth. I don’t remember who said it, but I thought it was a bloody brilliant idea!

      • it would be cool if it had a bunch of different first stage sheets it could change into in this form and then when/if it evolves it takes on a simile appearance to the evolution of whatever sheet its wearing kinda like a wormadam thing, but cooler

  7. Congratulations Gamefreak, I see a lot of sense of humor in these designs. I was missing more funny Pokemon, not only cute and fierce-looking ones.
But I really hope that the Pikachu disguise is not the only one for Mimikkyu

  8. These are just so freaking bad…..
I fucking swear they better add a brand new Ground Type soon
I’ve been patient with this entire thing for a long long time
The botched Mega Garchomp, Camerupt and Mega Heracross
And Diggersby is too frail to be any good
Just everything is not getting any better
And now these catastrophes are just putting me further and further for getting something I want

    • Lol complaining like a little baby over something that will happen is not waiting patiently.
Go take your whiny attitude to your pillow it’s the only thing that cares

          • yeah I wanted that typing but this is not what I wanted in terms of pokemon, I wanted something beautiful and elegant, but you know what I love this anyways because I have an open mind

          • But regardless you still got the type combo
But me I still am currently groundless and the first fighting type is a bust

          • Regardless you got pokemon news which you wanted. Regardless you got a pokemon game after a year of nothing which you wanted.
See how flawed that logic is

          • I wanted a Ground type
The sheer fact Corocoro is a potential ally in achieving this notion does not change my desires which now have been quashed

          • yeah but they will deff give us a fairy and i hope for your sake (and everyone else) that you love it

        • Shut up and stop whining, we are more than likely getting Mega Flygon after what happened in ORAS so please Just SHUT UP I am sick of you spamming. I’m sure ground types are on the way anyhow…

          Reply
          • ARE WE? ORAS FUCKING SHAT OUT LIKE LITERALLY ALL THE BEST IT HAD TO OFFER AND GAVE THEM MEGAS
AND THE ONE THEY MEANT TO GIVE WAS DENIED
SO WHAT ARE THE CHANCES IT WILL COME THEY ARENT FORCED TO MAKE IT JUST BECAUSE THEY DIDNT DO LAST GAME

            I AM SICK OF WAITING

    • ಥ‿ಥ L O L

honestly I agree M garchomp is fugly with that weird jawline, but I don’t like its normal form that much to begin with so blah

but camerupt is one of my fav ground types and its Mega is awesome, same with Heracross

Don’t complain about diggersby being frail just because you don’t know how to use it properly, heck if I can win battles with a goddamn sunflora I’m sure you can figure out a diggersby…

      Calm thyself earthen

      Reply
      • They ruined Garchomp’s power by dropping its speed which totally ruins its potential
Camerupt should’ve gotten drought and major defense so it doesn’t die in one hit or be too slow to be any use
And Diggersby is frail and not fast enough to do enough but believe me slap a choice band and it slays

And I will not calm down until I freaking get something I like
