Video: Sun/Moon Starter Evolutions Rumor

I’ve made a YouTube video regarding the image which surfaced earlier today allegedly revealing the final evolutions of Rowlet, Litten and Popplio in Pokémon Sun & Moon. Also included is my own opinion about whether or not I believe these images are real or not.

ps- spoilers: I think it’s fake

  1. I mean, Rowlet’s evolution looks the best IMO. I don’t really care for Popplio’s, it’s nice I guess, but I don’t like Litten’s at all… This was my reaction TBH *refresh*

  2. While I hope these are fake for Litten and Popplio fans, the Rowlet evo looks plausible because in Rowlet’s concept art it shoots a feather from its wings… But I agree with PJ, there’s too much of a design shift with Popplio and Litten’s evos. I’d really like to see the middle evos.

      • You guys really go too far into words
It’s fur is covered with a flammable oil, not all oils are poisonous
Hell none would mention poison if it said the fur itself was flammable or covered in a wax

        Reply
        • For once (sigh), I have to agree with Earthen. There are a variety of oils in the world.

The most common form (and I guess what most people jump to about Litten) is the gasoline kind of oil. This kind of oil is made up of hydrocarbons (namely alkanes, like octane and butane, sometimes also alcohols, like ethanol).

The lesser-known form are like vegetable oils, or also
body oils. Whereas the fuel oils are carbohydrates (only containing C and H), these oils are lipids (Contain C, H, and O, sometimes P). These oils can also ignite, but are not poisonous. And I doubt a cat would be secreting gasoline on its fur.

  3. alright guys we need to figure out who made those cool final evolution to the new starter Pokemon but who?

    Reply
    • How would we figure this out? There are hundreds of thousands of people on the internet capable of making these, and that’s with the assumption of them being fake, which isn’t confirmed. There really isn’t any way to know

      Reply
      • I looked on deviantART and I couldn’t find any match of those new final evolution for the new starters if I didn’t know better I’d think this might be real.

        Reply
        • Of course it’s not on deviantART. Any leaker worth their salt wouldn’t post their leak on an art site, it’s as good as admitting they’re fake. It very well could have originated from 2ch, which is difficult to navigate even if you are fluent in japanese, which the whole board is in. You aren’t going to find the source of these, I’m sure of it.

  4. I heard Noivern in the video. #Alwayswatching.

On another note, I’m hoping these designs are fake because I’m not looking forward to another Fire/Fighting starter.

  5. I think these are just really detailed fakes. Popplio’s evolution looks a little too feminine unless they are going to do a distinct male and female difference. Plus Rowlett’s and Popplio’s don’t match the Grass Ground or Water Fighting found in the data bit before

    Reply
      • Braixen doesn’t look this feminine though. This Popplio evolution concept looks too feminine for a species thats going to be 87.5% male

          • Only time can tell. We might get their second forms E3 so it’ll help us determine whether these final evos are fake

          • I think E3 will be a few new Pokemon. July will be evil team and a gym leader or two. Then August will be starter second forms

  6. okay guys we need to think about this the new starter Pokemon are based on the circus but the final evolutions that got to be based on something else but what?

    Reply
  7. Didn’t they say something like the starter evolutions will be simple or something like that? These are complex af. Like they are trying to create a RPG or comics character. There are many Pokemon from the same species but these look characteristic enough to be one and only .

  8. Rated ( just showing how much I love them)

    Rowlett evo: 9
Litten evo: 6 ( would be 8 if not so similar to all other fire starters and looked at purely by itself)
    Popplio evo: 9.3

    Pretty good in my opinion

  9. My take on this is that they don’t match up with type leaks, so they have that going against them. Then again, the types were never concrete and confirmed.

  10. Those don’t look real by any means. Actually it’s in really poor taste. If they are it means GF went digimon mode all the way.

  11. hold on we know the final evolutions on these guys but we didn’t see their second evolution I wonder what the second Evolutions will be?

  12. Pokejungle, where did you even find these? I also find it interesting that no other Pokémon sites/YouTubers have covered this rumor.

  13. One of my main issues with these is the fact that Rowlett is basically a hawk or a falcon at this point over an owl

  14. Here’s something that I don’t get. The Noivern image has digital text, right? Why in the world wouldn’t the fakers do that, as it’s so easy to replicate? It would have made their “fake” that much more believable. Obviously someone with an educated knowledge of color palettes and the Japanese language has handwritten these notes. I suppose anyone could technically do that, but the amount of detail is still intriguing to me.

    Reply
    • I’m a real boy, not digital. Although, these are detailed. I’m still doubtful of the authenticity of these leaks, cause I don’t think Gamefreak is going to do another Fire/Fighting. I will add that this is a good time to leak stuff, given that E3 is right around the corner.

  16. Slightly off topic, I saw a video analyzing the bracelets that the SuMo protagonists are wearing. They’re shown in the artwork, and in some gameplay clips. Given that at the center of the bracelet is a crystal gem (AND STEVEN!), and the same gem is shown in the Japanese Logos, they should have a prominent role in the plot. They’re pretty similar in appearance to the burst hearts from Pokemon Reburst and Ash-Greninja has been floating around in the anime. Do you guys think the bracelets are representative of Fusion evolutions, where the trainer can fuse with their Pokemon or their pokemon starts looking like them in some way, or just mega bracelets?

    Reply
      • Restating; the concept of this alleged Synchro Evolution and Mega Evolution are virtually identical down to the label
Both utilizing bonds to achieve a new form and higher strength
But you are all blinded by just the idea of the Pokemon taking form similar to the trainer or vise-versa
And everyone consistently brings up Ash-Greninja as your only defense but as clearly stated by both the Anime’s site that this phenomenon only has occurred once every 100 years to “Special Greninja” clearly referring to the Ninja Hero’s Greninja but honestly none follow the anime anymore and just jump to conclusions

And also I stated this is a way the writers can give Ash a Pseudo-Mega to compete with the trio of rivals aka Alain’s Charizard and Sawyer’s Sceptile and therefore each rival has a mega of a starter type which makes so much sense

But this… “Synchro Evolution” is basically Mega Evolution with a fancier name, Yes the Protagonist hold very peculiar watches/bracelets but immediately jumping to Synchro Evolution is nothing less then foolhardy, it could be a PSS Device or just a Mega Bracelet but I truly do not think Pokemon Fusing with Humans will EVER be promptly displayed in a main series game

        Reply
    • I love you man but if you EVER bring up Reburst or synchro evolutions I will tear your wings off and stuff them into your ears

Synchro evolution is literally Mega Evolution and Reburst is Manga (Also the rhomboid Crystals everyone looks up are even label artificial burst hearts on bulbipedia)

      Reply
    • The thing that is offputting for me is the fact that there are 2 different colors resembling the sun and moon colors. And they are flipped in the logos.
For some reason I feel like the crystals might have to do with the legendaries, but also we get them at the start of the game so that’s really confusing XD.

      • Noticed that too. One is orangeish, the other is purple-ish. But it IS weird that we’re getting them early on in the game.

  17. So what news does everyone think we get at E3? I’m really excited for E3 now because we get Pokemon. So what do we get?

    Reply
    • We’ll probably get some new pokemon revealed in a trailer but they won’t be named. We’ll see it on the official site though, Similar to how Noivern being shown in a trailer but not formally introduced. We might get the evil team and maybe more info on things such as the Rotom Pokedex. Maybe 1 or 2 gym leaders, the champion, or just some character of importance.

      Reply
        • We also had PSS, Amie, and Super Training reveal as well. So maybe we get some kind of new feature revealed there.

          Reply
          • Maybe expanding on the QR feature. Hopefully it confirms horde battle are still a thing. Or just some way to EV trainer pokemon easier

        • If revealed they should make the description discrete and not super obvious that they are the champion (Diantha)

          Reply
          • Hopefully the Leader of the Evil team wont be super obvious either. Yeah I’m talking bout you Lysandre

          • Yeah something like that. They just need to make sure not to give them a super obvious design like Lysandre. After everyone saw him they could tell he was leader, or at least an important position, in Team Flare even though he was introduced as just the owner of Lysandre Labs

    • I think it’ll be a very large amount of information. I’d say 4-6 pokemon, some more characters, and some new feature, similar to how E3 2013 revealed fairy types. Also possibly a story trailer.

Rowlett’s is the coolest design though. 8.5

Litten’s final gets a 7. I know people would riot if GF made another fire/fighting but I mean I can imagine GF trolling the fanbase, how popular is it to make fun of the idea of them creating another fire/fighting anyway.

But I agree with PJ these are probably fake, but I would still love for these to be real.

  23. Ok, so these comments about E3 got me thinking. We had 9 Pokemon revealed during E3 between E3 itself and CoroCoro, these being Litleo, the Scatterbug line, Noivern, Flabebe, Talonflame, Skrelp, and Clauncher. Considering the amount of new Pokemon in XY, this is nearly 1/7 of all the Pokemon (keep in mind that this was revealed alongside many features such as Pokemon Amie, fairy type, etc.). I think based on this, we can expect 5-7 Pokemon, to keep expectations low.

    • I think that during the stream on June 14, as well as the “E3 2016 Pokemon Special” on June 16, we’ll get a similar blowout of information. It’s about time that we start seeing regular Pokemon besides the starters and legendaries. We could also hear about the mechanic relating to the watch and the yellow diamond shape, but I’m expecting that to be revealed later.

  24. Maybe GF is going to surprise everyone with a major gender difference for the final evos? Since these are supposed anime sheets instead of game sheets. Maybe a character has a female popplio? And that goes for a male Litten to! I say this because the only drastic male/female differences we’ve seen were from the Hippopotas line and Frillish line to name a couple.

I really would be excited to see these as the final evolutions though! Rowlets always been my #1 choice and seeing this final evo, I would definitely choose it!

Fairy/Bug Pixie, could also take inspiration from fairyflies
Elec/Something (Ghost or Fairy?) Ball Lightning

  26. If I were to pick Chikorita for my SoulSilver playthrough, would the game get any more difficult? I’ve never used it before and I’m strongly considering it. By extension, should I try going for a shiny starter? The 1/8192 chance is technically multiplied by 3 since each of the starters is shown each time (assuming that’s how math works).

    Reply
      • I only ask because I just got up to Sunyshore in Diamond with Torterra and the game still isn’t difficult at all. I’ll probably try Chikorita just for fun.

        Reply
    • That is how the math works, that’s what I did, and I got a shiny Chikorita. It really isn’t that much harder imo

      Reply
    • I have used Chikorita a lot, and yes, it makes the game considerably more difficult, especially the first three gyms.

      Reply
    • It’s challenging at first, cause obviously both Faulkner & Bugsy beat grass, however it’s still pretty easy to not die
You could probably catch a Geodude specifically for Faulker and wall both his Pokemon

      Reply
    • I’m on a run through right now and I chose chikorita. It’s not that difficult, it’s movepool is just limited to basically only grass type for offensive moves. So to help it out I decided not to use an electric type so that it could take on all the water types and I wouldn’t have to worry so much about it gaining exp. It’s worked well so far, I just got my 7th badge and am defeating team rocket.

  27. I hope that these aren’t real. Litten and Rowlett’s look pretty good, but Popplio’s looks super weird. I don’t think any starter has ever looked outright masculine or feminine before and I doubt that they would start anytime soon; the point being that someone can pick a starter and not be worried about it looking uncool. Especially given that starter Pokemon have a 75% chance of being male anyway.

    Reply
    • A lot of them look pretty outright masculine tbh. Samurott, Emboar, Infernape, Empoleon, Chesnaught, even this Litten evo.
Also, what, are you saying girls are uncool? ;(

      Reply
      • Way to put words in my mouth. What I’m saying is that not everyone is gonna go for a starter that evolves into a Pokemon that pretty much looks super feminine. I don’t have a problem with women protagonists, but this design looks way too polarizing to me.

And all those examples look masculine because they are supposed to portray a certain motif.

        Samurott = samurai with armor
        Emboar = wrestler
Infernape = Son Goku (from Journey to the West
Empoleon = king (or royalty, as it were)
Chesnaught = knight with heavy armor (almost like a paladin)
        Litten evo = evil wrestler

The point being is that bulkier, muscular shapes are more symbolic of masculinity but don’t need to be limited to men. I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume that Game Freak wouldn’t make a starter outright portraying a certain gender.

But that’s beside the point. The starters have been revealed for a month now and you guys think that the final evolutions would just leak this soon? Apart from Blaziken (who first appeared in the anime), I don’t think any final evos have been unofficially revealed no sooner than a month or so out from the release date. If I’m wrong, then I’m wrong, but for the moment, I highly doubt that these are the final evos.

        Reply
        • Sure, but also: Not everyone is gonna go for a Pokémon that evolves into a ninja, or a giant muscle boar, or a snake, etc. That’s why there’s three, so you can choose whichever one you prefer.

And same thing with this Popplio evo: It looks feminine because it’s supposed to portray a certain motif – a mermaid.

Your next point goes both ways too, sure the way it looks is more symbolic of femininity, but it doesn’t need to be limited to women. There’s plenty of feminine men in real life, so why couldn’t a male Pokémon be feminine as well?

Your last point is pretty fair, but also: It’s (supposedly) a /leak/. They obviously weren’t supposed to be revealed this soon, but there’s no reason to believe the designs haven’t been finalized for a while. They very well COULD be fake, but you can’t say for sure just because it’s ‘too early’ since this obviously wasn’t a planned reveal. Besides, who knows, maybe they’re slated to appear in the anime soon. Really the only thing we can do at this point is wait and see.

          Reply
  28. WAIT. I just realized that the whole archer thing makes perfect sense considering what we know about the new move Leafage. It shoots a leaf quill. It is a barrage of quills, hence the name LeafAGE.

    Reply
  29. I’m not sure about these. They seem so far off but we will just have to wait and see. One thing I do hope we get is that the Pokemon talk like they do I. The anime (they say their names) and like Pikachu does in X & Y. No more weird random sounds, I want Litten to say “Lit litten” and now some sound sequence.

We have a ton of masculine starter evos, a more feminine one wouldn’t be bad at all, whatever the gender ratio, I mean look at Gardevoir (50% Male) Yes it was fixed with Gallade, but still. I think the Poplio evo is amazing and a huge improvement to the goofy mess it is currently.

But they’re probably not real 🙁

          • Well I don’t think you understand. .. it’s like the eviolite.. very situational but very useful on certain Pokemon.. so when it’s actually needed .. it’s there. This way people who don’t like where a Pokemon’s evolution is headed can gain control of it. A pleaser item. Just saying.

          • Eh Eh Eh. .. this is not about if it would make things too tough or annoying competitively, but could it help the player and spice up battle.. like mega and possibly synchro evolution

      • well.. . Losing a few weaknesses is a Big thing. Not Every Pokemon has a good move for its second typing.. it could just bog some Pokemon down. Especially with team building and you find 4 of your Pokemon are weak to the same typing. It could also keep Wi-Fi battles fresh, if the opposing trainer is warned of this when the Pokemon is first thrown out.
But yeah, just a thought ?

          • It is. .. I’m trying to stick to only Pokemon from from the gen I’m focusing on. . But not every gen has a good fire type.. water.. and grass. . That suits my needs..

          • True life. Especially gen 6 was super hard to build a good team. Not enough new pokemon and too few good choices.

          • I’m glad someone understands my struggle. . Especially with Mega Pokemon.. . To have 2 Pokemon who can mega or not. .. what a headache.
I’m hoping Synchro evolution if real will help solve this for me

    • There are some Pokemon that can heavily benefit from this. I can think of reducing a Stealth Rock weakness: Charizard without Flying type, or Talonflame without Fire type. Or in general, reducing a problematic 4x weakness like with Abomasnow or Aurorus.

Azumarill going back to pure Water type is not a bad idea, I’d say.

      • Well at least someone likes it. .. ?
I also thought if an eviolite for attack

        • An attack/spA eviolite has some niche applications…

Rhydon or Graveler in Trick Room are gonna be really powerful sweepers. Or Scyther without Trick Room. Sneasel is the best priority move (Ice Shard) user of a theorerical attack/spA eviolite.

We can all say the same about the normal def/spD eviolite: when it’s good on a Pokemon, it’s really, really good.

    • I say no, but only because a sizable amount of people give them unflattering names… and that’s probably the reason Game Freak stopped letting players name the rival… -_-

    • It was nice back in the day, but most RPGs have moved away from allowing players to name side characters and NPCs to help better define those characters. I like that they’ve done that because it puts more focus on the writing and, if I may, the literary value of video games.

But yes I agree seems fake to me cause of Litten and Popplio evo. Litten somehow way to generic and fire/fighting would be major disappointing, while Popplio and that mermaid thing looks way to female. Would love to have that Poke in the games overall but not as Popplio evo.

Also, the starters are so simple in design that these evos look really complex, almost busy, by comparison. I’ll be happy with these if they are real, but I’m unconvinced. Looking forward to discovering the truth with you guys!

    • Welcome back to the discussions! So far I’m team Litten because I love cats and black is my favorite color(It goes with every other color expect brown. Brown sucks though) I’m hoping to see some new beginner route Pokemon or a few megas next update

      • Thanks! I eventually make a team that always includes all 3 starters, but I’ll probably be using Popplio for my first playthrough (gotta love dem water types). I’m also looking forward to some early route Pokemon, and I reeeeally wanna see some new Electric types.

        • I’ve debated using a team of all three to see which ones I like best. I agree about the Electric types.

  40. i think theyre fake too but using the type files on the site is pretty weak evidence imo, because just like serebii joe said, it doesnt make sense to upload type images for pokemon until you intend to use them

also solgaleo and lunala types were added, and they are steel, ghost, and steel, in that order, despite solgaleo coming first, so there are obviously some liberties being taken with the order within the order of uploads

    Reply
  47. These starters are certainly odd. I thought it would follow a circus-motif in designs. Yet, I see they might have went for something completely different.
Rowlett’s evolution gives off some Green Arrow/Robin Hood vibes. I seriously like the design of it’s final evolution.
Litten, I’m not so sure of. I’m tired of bipedal Fire-Type Starters, so I’m not a fan. Yet, I do hope it stays pure Fire or incorporates the Fire/Ground Type.
Lastly, Popillio just looks majestic! I adore it’s designs, yet I feel like it’s designs would differ with gender. Overall, these starters are something rather new.
Still, I’m considering this information as a pure rumor or fake until the third evolution is official revealed.

  48. okay guys let’s think about this the new starters for Generation 7 are all based on the circus but when we saw their final evolutions they’re based on something else those three final Evolutions might be based on movies which movies that these final evolutions are based on?

  50. I love the Pokemon anime, especially the XY and Z series which has incorporated a plethora of new and creative plot lines, characters, and the animation is simply gorgeous! However, I do believe it is time Ash retires and we get new protagonists. Although this will probably never happen as the anime never truly has any substantial factors to render it being changed, I’m kind of over Ash and Pikachu. If the ratings and performances of the recent films are anything to go by, many fans are too. The world is becoming ever instant-gratification minded and shows like Pokemon need to add flavorful and entertaining changes to keep fans interested and happy. Keeping the same formula only works for so long until the masses realize they’ve been re-watching the same monomyth just with different characters and little changes here and there.

    Reply
      • That would be epic! The Pokemon anime is supposed to give us an insight into the lives of trainers and Pokemon. Pokemon are supposed to be breathing, living organisms that have emotions, feelings, get hurt, cry, get happy, get abandoned, etc… and it seems like with the more recent additions to the Pokemon anime, we’ve reached a point where the writers are not showcasing these characteristics and attributes. It’s not always about the trainers, it’s about the characters as well. A perfect blend would be Pokemon Mystery Dungeon + Origins + Mega-Evolution Acts in my opinion.

        Reply
      • I agree but the main problem i had with Origins was that because it was only 4 episodes it felt kind of rushed in terms of character development for Red. But its natural as it was just a mini-series. Regardless i would like another mini-series either way. Maybe if it were a movie. Either way i would like 1 for Gen VII

          Reply
          • It smashes into a opponent like a meteor
            Steel, deal with it

And a celestial beam, it’s most likely Ghost since SE on Gengar and it seems they are focusing on their secondary typing but also easily a psychic

And again just not worth it, just play the cards your dealt

          • I’m thinking they aren’t dual-typed, but if there are, their moves are their types.

          • Sunsteel Strike isn’t Fire-Type since the “not very effective” text did not appear. I’m guessing it’s Steel or Psychic or maybe a Dual-Type of the two. Same with Moogeist Beam, it’s probably Ghost or a Dual Type Ghost and Steel.

      • I have a slight feeling that sunsteel strike and moongeist beam are dual type but i also think they are just steel and ghost respectively

      • I also did enjoy alot, i even thought that its graphics would be the best graphics achieved on the 3ds system (for a pokemon game that is) but with what im seeing from sun and moon i was completely wrong

        Reply
        • I mean, Gen 7 naturally has to improve on Gen 6, so of course it’s gonna look better. You don’t hate Gen 5 because of Gen 6, now do you? No, it’s still good in its own right. It was the first attempt at a 3D Pokemon game, and I believe they did a good job.

          Reply
          • Exactly. B/W & B2/W2 were the slow decent into complete 3D. Hell, the 4th Generation used 3D models for the environment similar to the 5th Generation. I’m glad GameFreak is taking a risk with fully-scaled 3D models. It does make the games look better than anything they’ve previous developed.

          • Yeah, I love their progression graphics-wise. When I did find out that the characters aren’t chibi anymore, I grew more excited cause it looks amazing. And XY did have those non-chibi moments, but I think it was a test to see if it could be done, like the 3D environment models from past gens.

          • Yes it gives them a more realistic feel and it makes the region feel much more atmospheric and detailed and gives you a hint about what the region is about for example if you compare gen 3 hoenn to gen 6 hoenn you can actually feel the tropical-ness of the region more

          • I dont hate any gen…but yes they did an awesome job transiting from 2.5d of gen 5 to the 3d of gen 6 certainly a great improvement graphic wise

    • Kalos truly does not deserve this much hate
      They gave us SO MUCH
Amie, ST. WT UH full 3D game with all new 3D models
All this extra stuff takes a toll on development teams, everyone always assumes that they can just jam everything THEY want into the game and never question it

      Selfish I have to say

        • When you talk about the pokemon you must be talking about design wise because in terms of use there are many great Kalos pokemon. But in my opinion the AZ portion of the story was pretty good it just needed a bit more expanding upon. As for the region i don’t think it was that bad

          Reply
          • Yeah the characters felt rushed and stereotyped (tierno the soft big dude, trevor the nerdy boy, shauna the girly girl) and many had potential to have great character development like n but just appeared three or four times in the entire game (lysandre, diantha, az)

          • AZ was just so weird and out of left field. Random gigantic 1000 year old man wandering the desert and somehow gets captured? Wtf?

          • Ikr! But at least its better than lysandre just randomly finding the key of the ultimate weapon lying around on the floor of some random place in kalos

      • And yet it was too easy, the characters were awful, and it had a SEVERE lack of postgame.

It added in good features but it felt weak.

        Reply
        • It was only super easy with EXP Share, without it, it’s a bit harder.
The friends are kind of bad, but Lysandre had super gray villain moments, and I really like that. AZ was relatable to me, in a way.
And Postgame I don’t care too much of, since I usually shiny hunt/do whatever/restart the game if I get bored.

          Reply
          • I honestly don’t remember anything about him because his character and motivation were forgettable imo. All I remember is when he suddenly turned into Doctor Octopus for no reason

          • I think on a character concept sheet it said the suit was used to harness the power of Xerneas/Yveltal into the Ultimate weapon or something along those lines. But it was never stated in the actual game so it seemed random as hell

          • It’s still easy without the EXP Share. I’ve tried.

And if it was super hard without the exp share it’s still an issue. There should have been an option to set it to certain pokemon.

Lysandre was okay. I can’t remember what he tried to do but I don’t remember caring at all about his character.

    4.Chimchar
    5.Snivy
    6.Fennekin
    7.Litten
As you can see im mostly a fire lover but in gen 5 i chose snivy because the first time i saw it i felt like we have a connection and ever since that day serperior has been my favorite pokemon, heck i even have a 6v contrary one i bred myself called Forrest and he is really special for me because with him i beat the maison and he is really helpful in online battles

      4. Piplup
      5. Oshawott

      4. Piplup
      5. This one was rocky. I liked Oshawott and I beat the game with it, but the Snivy line had the best art and designs. So majestic.
      6. Fennekin. The first time I picked fire over water. I didn’t care for Chespin but I love the adorable Chesnaught. Greninja is cool too I guess.
      7. So far, Rowlet. I really love birds and owls are adorable. Especially when they carry of small deer. Popplio is adorable too. Litten looks like a mid game generic fire type though. I have a feeling its going to have an awesome tiger final Evo though.

      5. Snivy (Fav grass starter, Oshawott is second)
      6. Fennekin (Chespin second)
      7. Litten so far (Rowlet second, Popplio just slightly less than Rowlet)

  58. Do you guys think we’ll see Anne in Pokémon Sun & Moon?
After you help her save Mewtwo from being merged with the Shadow Synergy Stone, her Synergy Stone broach breaks. She says she needs to take the Shadow Synergy Stone back to her people and asks if you can take care of Mewtwo for her. Once Ann leaves, Nia says she feels like Anne had a look in her eyes that said “I’ll be back.” Once you get to the world map, Nia wonders if Anne made it back alright.
It would be great to see a connection between all of these theories actually be true.

          • I always thought I liked Cyndaquil but then when I think about it, it’s evolutionary line is just really boring. When I picked totodile on my second playthrough, it was just so cute following me around. Feraligatr is okay though..

          • that’s fair
pure types tend to just be boring not just design-wise but gameplay-wise

          • Yeah and I like all the type coverage I can get on play throughs. Makes battling and training more interesting

          • nothing wrong with a simple design, some pokemon are a little too over designed

          • I’m like that with Chikorita. I always loved it, but then when HGSS came out, and I played Cyndaquil, I always wondered why I really liked it so much when Cyndaquil was better for me. And it helped me realize I liked most fire starters.

          • Same! Chikorita used to be my favorite for a long time and then I actually looked at its movepool and stats and was disappointed. Plus it’s like trying to be a defensive pokemon but grass is a horrible defensive type. So many weaknesses

          • well usually I’m forced to make one of my starters learn an HM but it’s usually Strength or Rock Smash

          • D/P was my return to pokemon after a few years since I skipped two gens. I was a super rookie.

          • I had hella trouble beating the game. I remember I was fighting Roark and his geodude used self destruct and it knocked out my last pokemon so I thought I had won but then I blacked out. I was so fucking mad lol. I had really bad anger management back then. Don’t get me started on Gardenia and her Roserade lol

          • I always do the same for my Water-type Starters. Particuarly with putting Surf on them, but only because the move in general is just so powerful. I don’t normally put Waterfall on a Starter. Because most Water types have high Special Attack and I don’t want to waste the slot for the less powerful move.

          • Physical water pokemon kinda annoy me during play throughs b/c you need surf but waterfall suits them better. But then that’s two HM slots…hence why they need to get rid of HMs like yesterday

    • That’s a very very difficult question my good sir. Hmmm… out of all the ones I’ve used over the years I’d have to go with Piplup and it’s family. I just loved Empoleon at the time and it’s unique Water/Steel typing. <3

          • all humans are incapable of swimming except trainers who have found the true magic of swimming and don’t need pokemon with surf
            they are inhuman

    • Yeah it really annoyed me that honedge literally a sword couldnt cut a bush without knowin cut or that lapras cannot transport me to water if it doesnt know surf(although surf is a pretty good move) or that staraptor cant fly me to jubilife city because it doesnt know fly

It’s a key staple to restrain players from advancing without battling gyms and actually find it

          • Today is throwdown day, where we bring up topics that make long comment chains 🙂
I don’t mind, it’s not getting too heated, imo :3

          • They are supposed to be crucial to exploration and progression
Each HM allows you to find hidden areas and lead to goodies

HMs are a good restricter to force the player come back later with the HM to fully explore the area, which is always interesting

I personally feel that they stop a player from snatching up every goodie in the area and leaves nothing to come back for, and it’s crucial in keeping the player close to the story, like I can easily see how if somebody could just ignore all the stops and find his or herself at the final town without any obstacles, which is what they overcome

You can’t leach this town until you learn rock smash, that’s how the game should be in the future and how it should stay

          • You can do that with an item! Someone gives you the item, the rotomdex maybe reminds you like ‘hey, remember that area from before? Maybe go check it out, if you want.’ or you remember it on your own. You can do exploration with the items just the same as with HMs. Just because it’s an item and not an HM doesn’t mean that it kills exploration of past areas that have those obstacles.

          • Ok im ready bby
“Each HM allows you to find hidden area and lead to goodies”
so give an item that does that too. Q.E.D.

“Good restrictor to force the player to come back later.”
again the items. Seriously play a metroid game, they do that and it’s beautiful.

“They stop a player from snatching up every goodie.”
“keeps player close to the story.”
            Again items.

            “You can’t leave this town”
            ITEMS

          • honestly i was expecting you to say Human-Pokemon bond when using pokemon to help you on your adventure but you didn’t

you used something that happened to lower my IQ reading it

          • what better item then a freaking Pokemon
How’s an item going to let a ten-year old move a 2 ton Boulder like a soccer ball
Or travel across a vast ocean, this isn’t magic land where we can pull a jet ski out of our butthole

          • yeah but you can pull a huge whale out of a pokeball
it’s a game I already have the benefit of the doubt going in
and even then you could make the HM attach to the pokemon like another move, that isn’t too hard right?
basically same thing as an item only better

          • Well considering you have a bike in your backpack and hundreds of potions yeah it kinda is.

          • Yeah, but in your puny backpack do you really think you can hold hundreds of different pokeballs, potions, a bike and several other things like a map, fishing rods etc?

This is a universe where you can pull jetski’s out your butthole.

          • Cut: Gardening gloves
            Flash: Flashlight
Strength: Power gloves (they can think of something I’m sure)
            Rock Smash: Chisel
            Fly: Flute
            Surf: Swim suit
            Dive: Rebreather
            Waterfall/Rock Climb: Grappling hook

          • Okay but why when someone gives you the HM for rock smash couldn’t they just give you “power fists” or “chisel” instead?

          • Why does it need a move in order to break it with its bare hands? It should be able to do it without the move.

          • Because it NEEDS MOVE TO DO SO
            Why is this so hard

            You have an obstacle
You find the ability to overcome it
            Give it to a Pokemon
            Pokemon overcomes obstacle
            You progress

            It’s a simple formula

          • ok so have pokemon have a subset of moves known as HM moves
they can only have up to 2
            problem solved

          • But when the Pokemon has the ability to do much greater things (Like Tyranitar for example) how does that make sense? SCYTHER HAS FREAKING SCYTHES AS HANDS, yet it can’t naturally cut a bush. Makes total sense.

          • Plus you can do that with ITEMS.
            Obstacle found.
You are given an item to overcome it after doing something like getting a badge, talking to someone, or a friend giving it to you.
            You overcome it
            You progress.
            Simple formula there too.

          • N IS ALWAYS RIGHT N IS THE SAVIOR THE HERO
….but really N rules. I sympathized with him so much.

          • The main problem is you cannot delete them.
I can understand that they weren’t items due to lack of space in Gen 1 but not in any other region after that.

          • Then they don’t want you to delete them, it’s just a pet peeve that you either accept or stop playing

Cuz Gamefreak ain’t getting rid of HMs anytime soon, no matter how much everyone bitches

          • Tell that to Gamefreak
How long has everyone complained about HM removal and how many times did they do it

          • ‘it’s just a pet peeve’
so you admit that it’s annoying and has no design idea whatsoever

          • I never said it wasn’t annoying, but I GET IT
And the design works because this Pokemon world is filled with obstacles which you and Pokemon can overcome together
It just makes sense that we need these extra abilities to progress and what better way then special moves that enable to do these things
It’s like in Zelda this one area can’t be open without a bomb and you have to get them to progress, it’s just how it is

          • yeah but the difference in zelda is that the bomb is actually useful outside of its intended use
            I get your point though
            I still don’t think it’s neccessary
again I believe the HM idea was only made to save programming time rather than for a good design choice
GameFreak is capable of fucking up (we have gen 6 as an example /s)

          • it’s not a fundamental
            it’s a design choice
nowhere in design 101 does it teach you that the player must now suffer pet peeve

          • How is adding obstacles a bad design choice, for one it’s a great idea, they make you uses these attacks to get anywhere and without them you can’t
If it were me, I’d be strict with HMs, you’re not getting anywhere without them and I won’t make them easily found or the gyms that let’cha use em will be easy winnings
And just to be extra cruel level restrictions
You can’t use that HM unless that Pokemon reached a specific level like to cut this tree the Pokemon must be level 15 to use cut

          • That’s punishing. No one will enjoy a game like that.
No one likes punishing games. People like difficult games. There’s a difference.

          • I wouldn’t use the word punishing.
Unfair would be a better word
it’s the difference between a Dark Souls (Punishing but completely fair) and the Battletoads (Punishing and completely unfair)

          • I use the word because it reminds me of an Extra Credits episode on why people don’t make difficult games anymore. Their words not mine 🙂

          • honestly there’s no merit to the argument of ‘weed out the weak and soft’
you’re basically saying you care about nobody but people who agree with your ideals of strong and hard
and I can’t get behind that

          • it’s a narrow point of view but I’ll give the benefit of the doubt that maybe you can live with it

          • yeah but one of those is free and a couple of those are games that practically nobody plays

          • Cause they are probably fair. I dunno much about those games, but they are probably played because they are fair and are fast-paced. I’m taking my words from an Extra Credits episode about the topic. They talk about difficult games and how if you make them more fair and less punishing, people will play them.

          • Exactly. Pokemon is the second highest grossing video game franchise of all time (if you just lump mario into one category)

          • that’s not my point and you’re missing it
the point isn’t that there’s an obstacle
the point is that it is an apparently unfixable obstacle in-game
you always have to suffer the pet peeve no matter if you’ve beaten the elite four or not

          • You never really explained why HM’s are necessary in this comment, though. At least the form they’re in.

Your arguments have consisted of “it’s tradition” and “get over it”.

      • Well in black and white gyms werent needed to use the hm so the simple solution is to do what they did, make the hm unaviable until the story requires you to use it

        Reply
      • It’s not that I want it to be easy, You can do items that do what HMs do, but not being able to get them until you get the badge. There’s an alternative right there. You find something to help you move the boulder from someone you talk to.
People have a problem with HMs cause they ruin movesets or you have to add a Pokemon to be an HM slave. It gets annoying.

        Reply
      • That’s a non-argument when
        1) B/W did away with them almost entirely and made them optional
        2) You could replace them with key items that would serve the same purpose

        Reply
        • I think i remember reading somewhere that they were orignially supposed to be items but it got scrapped in favor of becoming moves…that cant be forgotten unless you have a move deleter. And i dont think move deleters were a thing until Gold & Silver

          Reply
          • I think the only reason HMs exist for pokemon is that it saves programming by making pokemon do certain things instead of adding another item to a limited item space that was Gen 1

          • True. It’s just lazy at this point though. All signs pointed to getting rid of them and replacing them but they keep them around for no reason

      • Besides, why can’t my giant godzilla esque pokemon that created the land and weighs thousands of pounds be unable to move a boulder without a man made object?

        Reply
      • that battling gyms for HM can be deconstructed entirely by having a gym leader give you some other item that does the job instead

        Reply
        • Or you have to talk to someone in that town to get it, or a friend comes over and is like ‘There are some shrubs that are hard to remove, here’s a machete’
It’s the same thing as getting an HM

Rowlet 3: 9/10 (Seriously, it could not be more perfect. It has two genius gimmicks in one. Using a hoodie string as a bow, how cool is that?)
Litten 3: 6/10 (I don’t want to see a bipedal Fire-type starter this generation. That is all I will say about that matter…)
Popplio 3: 8/10 (Interesting design, and it makes sense for a seal to become a mermaid since they have been mistaken for them throughout history.)

      • If they were to give it some unique moves i would’nt mind too much. Like how Braviary can learn Rock Slide and Super Power. But i agree other wise it is a pretty boring type combo

        Reply
        • It’s boring and uninspired. Like Staraptor should’ve been flying/fighting. It’s described as been ferocious, aggressive, temperamental, etc.

      • Pure flying is near infinitely unobtainable
Unless this thing is a pure wind Elemental it would never be a pure flying
Also Flying is notorious for being secondary typing

Only Noivern gets a half pass since it’s more related to Sound and Wind then a Dragon

        Reply
        • yea since only pure flying type is the wind legend himself. maybe go with a Water/Flying or Ground/flying for the bird

          Reply
          • Exactly, that argument makes no sense. It’s not wind type, it’s flying. Birds fly therefore they should be able to be pure flying.

          • Well Because it needs structure and base
Take Starly is it just a flapping ball of flight?
No it’s a avian and which are very close to mammals which Normal types embody

You just can’t have pure flying unless it is living wind, why do you think we have only One Pure Flying Type and one Primary Flying Type if Gamefreak doesn’t use this logic

          • But many pure types are mammalian as well and they don’t solely embody that type. With this logic they should all be normal typed unless they’re a legendary. If GF followed this “logic” they’re just limiting themselves and they quite frankly are stupid.

          • Not really, I mean they don’t have to follow set rules for a fictional universe. They can do whatever the hell they want because it’s fantasy

          • Well duh I know that, I’m just saying they need not limit themselves when they can set the rules. I’m tired of following pointless formulas, time to deviate and keep things fresh.

          • Yeah they aren’t too keen on that, it’s just been their traditional way
And if you don’t like it then don’t play or make it yourself

          • That would be a pretty dumb reason to stop playing. We all have things we dislike about the games but overall love them. If you don’t, you’re either lying to yourself or you’re a blind fanboy, which isn’t good.

          • You can have a balance of traditional and change. You can make things fresh yet stay to what works.
Just because they get it before doesn’t mean they can’t change it to be new.

          • Or are they
My logic on Flying types makes sense

Water could give it either the aquatic creature vibe or the fact it controls water

    • Flying/Normal has been done to death and especially in Gen 1. Game Freak is unpredicable and who knows what they may be thinking. They could always go back to Flying/Normal because they are insane. :p

There are many secondary types they haven’t tried for regional birds. While it is red, I don’t want to see another Fire/Flying, and neither Fire/Fighting because Hawlucha did it well already even if it wasn’t the regional bird.

      Flying/Poison, Flying/Fairy, Flying/Electric, Flying/Ice, Flying/Ghost are ripe for exploration.

The first two PMD games are two of my favorite games of all time, though I dislike the most recent two. • yeah but you could make that excuse for any game that has a good story about putting it into a manga or a book
but the difference is that a game is interactive which is why it’s in that format

I mean I understand your point gameplay still matters

          • Gameplay is awful and slow. It’s unnecessary. When you play anyway. It’s mostly dialogue

          • well I like the gameplay but that’s just me
although I think the dialogue and the story sell it more than the game which I can get behind

I mean nobody plays games like To The Moon for gameplay but by god it has one of best stories in all of gaming

  66. This is somewhat of a repost of something I said earlier, but I want to add onto it to so here I go.

If these are not real, I highly believe that Rowlet will become an archer. My evidence for this claim is as follows:
    1. Rowlet is the ‘Grass Quill Pokemon’. This is overall my weakest evidence, but I quills are like arrows, so there’s that.
    2. Leafage is a leaf barrage, much like a barrage of arrows. Plus, the animation for Leafage looks very much like an arrowhead being vaulted at the opponent.
    3. What if the ‘row’ in Rowlet is actually from the word arrow? If I remember correctly, Rowlet’s name origin is not known currently, so it could be an arrow owlet.

If you have any thoughts on this or evidence for or against please let me know. I’m pretty proud of this, as this is really the only theory I’ve ever crafted on my own, so this is exciting for me to post this.

  68. Also, if these are indeed real, I’m changing my mind and calling it that Tiger3 is part dark type.

Since every type tends to have colors (besides Flying, fighting, bug) that most pokemon fit (i.e. fire-red, water-blue) etc. and traits most exhibit (fairy-cutesy/elegant, steel- defensive/sturdy, electric- slick/fast), Tiger3 shows qualities of Dark types and colors associated more with this type as well. Now I know not every pokemon fits this pattern, but hear me out:

Tiger3 gets its red coloring from fire obviously, as well as the darker coloring associated with dark type. It is darker colored than any of the other fire/fighting type starters.

Its menacing appearance recalls that of Weavile, Mightyena, Zoroark, and Drapion.

Now, the wrestling moves featured are a great argument against this (see Hawlucha for reference…) but this isnt the first time a pokemon appears a certain way or behaves a certain way and then actually belongs to a different type- (see Flygon…Charizard, etc.)

The main reason for this post is to keep hope ALIVE for a non-fire/fighting…

    • Again I hate how people use color rather then what the thing is based on
Emboar has a lot of black and it’s a Fighting type

Like how Luxray isn’t part Dark since it has nothing evil about it

      Reply
          • Because it’s overused, yeah.
Fire/Dark would be more interesting, since black cats bring bad luck.

          • Tell that to the freaking Luchador Tiger with a champ belt made of fire
I bet the flame gets bigger with more victories

          • wait couldn’t you just get through rock gyms with Fire/Ground instead?
            or Fire/Steel?

          • Why do something unoriginal over something unique?
And besides that who the hell said the first gym was going to be rock type?!

          • well to give credit where it’s due
Gen 1’s first gym was rock
Gen 4’s first gym was rock
if this pattern of every 3 generations wants to keep up it might be gen 7 too

although that evidence is hardly conclusive

          • so now there’s no evidence
I get the strangest feeling you don’t want to agree with me on fire/ground and you’re just looking for what you disagree with

          • Well why do you think I call myself “The Down To Earth Trainer”
No nonsense and I value traditions and formulas

          • I didn’t
            Roxanne Rock Combusken
            Roark Rock Monferno
Granted The trio wasn’t but I can’t vouch for Gamefreak’s ways all the time it is what it is

          • Gen 1 Brock.
You could just give a Fire/Dark Tiger Metal Claw if the first gym was rock too…

          • you just gave evidence against you
            they’ll give trainers a hand
so why do you need the fire/fighting when they’ll give you a hand

          • So did you just ague against your reasoning to make a fire/ fighting type so it’s easy for the first gym if they can just give trainers a hand with a specific move?

          • Well they couldn’t change Charmeleon’s typing
And this only happens in FireRed

But honestly it’s just done, those Fire/Fighting types will exist until the end of time, and if Litten ends up that brute I’ll be enjoying the shitstorm

          • Yeah but we don’t know if the first gym will be rock tho. We have no info on any gym leaders at all.
So why assume there will be a rock gym when gyms haven’t even been mentioned yet?

          • I’m not assuming I’m theorizing why the Fire/Fighting and it checks out
They’re not making the games for us it’s always the newer generation
And at those times the Fire type was stopped by the first rock gym
So they gave them fighting to semi resist the rock and then super-effective Stab Fighting moves

          • Right, but once again. We don’t know if we’ll get a rock gym first at all. For all we know, it could be Fairy. That’s just as likely as rock because we have nothing.
Heck, they could do a BW thing again, with the first gym being like that.
            We don’t know yet.

          • I actually like that BW thing it was a good way for newcomers to learn types quickly and less painlessly

          • Did I say that it’s a rock gym no
Gen 3 was rock they gave us Combusken
gen 4 first gym rock Monferno

            I’m talking about earlier gyms

          • There’s other ways around it besides giving it s fighting type. Metal claw was your own example and I’m sure there are plenty more. I’m just offering a counter argument that maybe it’s fire/ dark. Why you gotta argue for an exhausted type combo that no one wants?

          • For one I like it
And two take it up with Gamefreak
And three the Metal Claw logic though stands I am referring to later games
Which honestly doesn’t apply anymore because they’re done, Sun and Moon might pop out another Fire/Fighting and I would support them

          • Personally, I don’t ever choose the fire starter so I don’t care that much. It’s a bit of a bummer that three gens all used fighting for their fire starter, but ultimately, if the design fits, I’ll take it. I was just trying to offer a point in a different direction.

          • yeah but you already have that now
so why are you against fire/ground
            I thought you liked ground

          • For you lazy english speakers “Missing the Point” fallacy, or changing the subject 😉

          • You have a point. I’m not denying the moves shown and the design point to fighting type, but I also pointed out that sometimes Pokemon don’t fit what we expect like Flygon and Charizard. I’m just trying to offer a different viewpoint based on previous patterns seen in the last six gens.

          • No, you don’t understand what THEY ARE
Flygon is always meant to be a Ground type
And they made Charizard a flying type so it wouldn’t be so overpowered

          • Flygon makes complete sense as both a ground/ dragon type and a bug/ dragon type. Tiger3 works as fire/ fighting and fire/ dark imo.

          • Charizard wouldn’t really be overpowered with a dragon type though.
We already have Alakazam, and besides that Charmander gets shit on by the first two gyms so dragon could justifyit’s early crappines.

          • No he’s right. I didnt once state that pokemon can be based off of their qualities too (besides color). Nor did I state there were exceptions to a rule. Nope. Never. 😛

      • Like I said, there are exceptions to every rule… a lot of pokemon have coloring that fits a pattern. a good percentage of poison types are purple, ground has a lot of tans, steel is well…the color of steel. There are always exceptions dude.

  72. I just created two gym leaders as to what I hope for in Sun and Moon. The male surfer is the gym leader that specializes in Water-Types and owns an aquarium/rock pools and his staff recieves admission fees from customer to enter his gym/aquarium/Rock pools and battle him. The female mechanic is the gym leader that specializes in Steel-Types and owns a automobile repair shop as the Alola region features more cars now. She has a tomboy feature and don’t mind getting messy. I chose water and steel be chase they’re both my favorite types!

    • Probably not for a while. I mean, Serebii thinks they’re fake as well, but we can only know for sure when the real ones are revealed, when the games come out. Blaziken is the only fully evolved starter to be revealed prerelease, none of the Gen 4-6 starters were.
