Pokémon ORAS Review Round-up

The embargo for ORAS review has lifted and reviews are now out in the wild. I’ve rounded up some of them here. Are you excited for ORAS launching this Friday (or next week) and are you curious if they live up to the hype. Spoilers: Nope, they are the worst Pokémon games ever.

  • Gamespot – Give these remakes enough time, and you begin to understand why Pokemon’s formula hasn’t changed much over the years. It’s a seemingly simple and cute journey, but with the underlying potential for strategy in combat, and a massive number of adorable Pokemon to catch, you can’t help getting hooked by Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. 8/10
  • GoNintendo – Overall, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire is a good improvement over the original Sapphire as well as last year’s X/Y releases. While it may not be the right game for players to jump back into the series or into it for the first time, it’s more enjoyable with a lot of streamlined features while adding new design elements that attempt to engage players in more aspects of the game.
  • IGN – As a 3D remake, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby do a fantastic job of reintroducing Hoenn. Little details, like characters turning their heads to look as you pass or flocks of Wingulls flying overhead, make the region really come to life, and small updates and tweaks help make the journey smoother.
  • Joystiq – Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire do little to overhaul the major pillars of a series that’s long relied on the same set of classic ideas, but they don’t have to. The core mechanics of Pokemon remain immensely addictive, and Game Freak’s latest coat of polish only enhances an already captivating adventure. 4.5/5
  • Nintendo World Report – Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are way better games than last year’s X/Y while also improving on the Game Boy Advance originals. 9/10
  • Daely Reviews – With the lack of Mega Flygon, no Mega Milotic and no Battle Frontier, these are literally the worst Pokémon games ever. Ever. 2/10.

There are more reviews on Metacritic, which all seem favourable so go check them out!

  3. So I saw the pictures of ORAS from the twitter of that guy in Italy I assume, and man all I can say is this was a good month for gaming. Also I want someone to clear this up, could you trade between XY and ORAS, and if so, would it be possible to evolve my Feebas via the Prism Scale from XY to ORAS by trading?

  4. While I agree that IGN is ignorant, I did find one interesting thing on their review page. They list all of the currently known megas of ORAS, stating: “below is a growing list of confirmed megas”

    …food for thought.

  5. Kotaku, a legit reviewer, said the following:

“Unfortunately, because of embargo rules set by Nintendo as a condition for reviewing the game prior to release, I can’t be specific about the incredibly exciting things that happen once you beat the game. Suffice it to say that players will find a ton of things to do once the main story is done—there are many Pokémon to collect, new places to battle, mega stones to find, and story things to tackle. The latter is of particular note, as the game sheds new light on the story in ORAS, as well as other Pokémon games. I’m looking forward to seeing what sorts of wild theories the revelations featured in the post game elicit from Pokémon fans. We’ll have more on that once the game actually launches.”

    Yes, you are reading correctly.
Kotaku actually loves a game set in Hoenn.

“* You get the Lati unique to your version after the 5th Gym when Steven Stone gives it to you/takes you to it.The other is obtained via the Eon Ticket

    * Starter Mega Stone given to you at Cave Of Origins”

sucks that we don’t get to mega evolve our starters until the 8th gym. Tho i’m glad I won’t need to eon ticket (i’m getting both games) and won’t need fly after the 5th gym :3

  7. >Battle Frontier will open after a certain amount of time
    >Mega Stones are just strewn about because they fell from space, and the result of Episode Delta has you destroy the asteroid, raining new stones down upon Hoenn that are findable after a certain amount of time

  8. BF won’t be in ORAS because competitive wifi battling is so much easier to do now compared to older games and more people will be doing that than a BF.

  9. Alright Hoopa Twisted Form Speculation!

Alright we know Hoopa is a Mythic Ghost/Psychic (Or Psychic/Ghost) Mischief Pokemon that loves collecting things and teleports them to a secret location through the use of its hyperspace rings on its body

Now when its power increases its ring could extend miles in diameter capable of swallowing entire islands

Now here comes the the form i’m just calling Twisted Form, I’m guessing that its harmful mischievous ways have gone way out of hand and its powers of distorting time and space have gone haywire and each of the severed hands can tear portals at will or if the arms have minds of their own, maybe that’s why its body is filled with so many opening the space time in-between them are out of whack

Now if anyone remembers This Form type changes to (Can’t remember the primary) to a Psychic/Dark type and its gain some demonic traits (Horns, Pointed tail, Oni Hair and that evil cyclops eye) and learns a new Dark Type move Hyperspace Fury

I’m curious to find out what drove Hoopa from harmless pranks to their mass of darkness

  10. From what I’ve read the Lati twin Soar ability is an interesting one…..u kno in addition to being able to fly where ever u want lol I’d say more but I don’t want to spoil

  11. Soar doesn’t completely replace fly and make it irrelevant.
    Why?
Because now breeding is way easier because of being able to automatically fly by tapping a location on the bottom screen.
•breed eggs with flame body talonflame in party
    •hatch the eggs
    •tap location
    •check IVs
    •Fly back

It makes breeding go by WAYYY faster.
