Pokémon ORAS Review Round-up

The embargo for ORAS review has lifted and reviews are now out in the wild. I’ve rounded up some of them here. Are you excited for ORAS launching this Friday (or next week) and are you curious if they live up to the hype. Spoilers: Nope, they are the worst Pokémon games ever.

  • Gamespot – Give these remakes enough time, and you begin to understand why Pokemon’s formula hasn’t changed much over the years. It’s a seemingly simple and cute journey, but with the underlying potential for strategy in combat, and a massive number of adorable Pokemon to catch, you can’t help getting hooked by Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. 8/10
  • GoNintendo – Overall, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire is a good improvement over the original Sapphire as well as last year’s X/Y releases. While it may not be the right game for players to jump back into the series or into it for the first time, it’s more enjoyable with a lot of streamlined features while adding new design elements that attempt to engage players in more aspects of the game.
  • IGN – As a 3D remake, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby do a fantastic job of reintroducing Hoenn. Little details, like characters turning their heads to look as you pass or flocks of Wingulls flying overhead, make the region really come to life, and small updates and tweaks help make the journey smoother.
  • Joystiq – Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire do little to overhaul the major pillars of a series that’s long relied on the same set of classic ideas, but they don’t have to. The core mechanics of Pokemon remain immensely addictive, and Game Freak’s latest coat of polish only enhances an already captivating adventure. 4.5/5
  • Nintendo World Report – Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are way better games than last year’s X/Y while also improving on the Game Boy Advance originals. 9/10
  • Daely Reviews – With the lack of Mega Flygon, no Mega Milotic and no Battle Frontier, these are literally the worst Pokémon games ever. Ever. 2/10.

There are more reviews on Metacritic, which all seem favourable so go check them out!

  1. Guys, let’s think about this.
So, why have time-based events in the ORAS demo if it won’t play any significance in the full game?
Therefore, I 100% side with Djja’s theory that the Battle Frontier will be built as time goes on. To my knowledge, nobody has beaten ORAS yet (and has had multiple days pass), but maybe once they do, the game will start a timer and will begin constructing the Battle Frontier. And personally, I really hope that happens, because it’s evident that GameFreak tried to incorporate elements from Emerald into ORAS. I mean, just look at Brendan and May’s designs. Do they look like the R/S design? Yes. Do they look like the Emerald design? Yes again. They are trying to combine the elements as much as they can since there probably won’t be a “Delta Emerald.”
Besides, why introduce time-based events in XY (Mega Stones, Serena battles) if that will just be dropped in the next game(s)?
Granted, Seasons from BW and BW2 were eventually dropped…
IDK guys. It’s all one huge jumble of speculation at the moment. We’ll see very soon.

    • I’m hoping for this. Real time events are ehh, but better than nothing. I am not looking forward to buying Delta Emerald (if it is a thing), so ORAS is my only hope haha

  2. I’m actually really happy that I never heard the new Verdanturf Town theme. If anything from these remakes will make me cry, that will be it.

  3. You know what would be cool? If a “Pokemon Maniac” would refer to Lord Helix. The memes in XY are pretty cool, hopefully they continue it here.

  4. So who do you think the Mega Cuff item belongs to?
Wallace? He seems to have iron rings on his arm. M-Milotic?
Aarune (or what his name?)? M-Flygon?

  5. A few days ago, some guy on Instagram got into a discussion with me about whether or not there will be new megas in ORAS. He was getting obnoxiously defensive on his position that there wouldn’t be, while I was remaining calm. I mentioned that Masuda said there would be, so he believed me. Just now he felt the need to reply: “I was right, game was confirmed to have no new megas”

I’ve been staying away from leaks for the last several days – is this true?

  7. Spoiler alert

To anyone that was hoping for remixed legend music in ORAS, too bad. They literally copy and pasted the song. Ptken is facing Mesprit right now. It’s literally exactly the same as DPPT

  8. Can’t believe all these reviewers are praising the post game content if there is no Battle Frontier. The Delta Episode better be pretty freaking amazing.

  9. It seems there is something that Game Freak is hidding something that just the reviewers got to experience. I mean everyone is talking about how GRAND the postgame is but it seems there are plenty of elements that the game lack. Again this doesn´t change my view on the games… but it feels odd.

Something else is going on. And we will soon find out. Also this is the third remake of the series. the third generation, And a triangle has 3 sides… Iluminati.
    Half Life 3 confirmed.
