Pokémon ORAS Review Round-up

The embargo for ORAS review has lifted and reviews are now out in the wild. I’ve rounded up some of them here. Are you excited for ORAS launching this Friday (or next week) and are you curious if they live up to the hype. Spoilers: Nope, they are the worst Pokémon games ever.

  • Gamespot – Give these remakes enough time, and you begin to understand why Pokemon’s formula hasn’t changed much over the years. It’s a seemingly simple and cute journey, but with the underlying potential for strategy in combat, and a massive number of adorable Pokemon to catch, you can’t help getting hooked by Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. 8/10
  • GoNintendo – Overall, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire is a good improvement over the original Sapphire as well as last year’s X/Y releases. While it may not be the right game for players to jump back into the series or into it for the first time, it’s more enjoyable with a lot of streamlined features while adding new design elements that attempt to engage players in more aspects of the game.
  • IGN – As a 3D remake, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby do a fantastic job of reintroducing Hoenn. Little details, like characters turning their heads to look as you pass or flocks of Wingulls flying overhead, make the region really come to life, and small updates and tweaks help make the journey smoother.
  • Joystiq – Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire do little to overhaul the major pillars of a series that’s long relied on the same set of classic ideas, but they don’t have to. The core mechanics of Pokemon remain immensely addictive, and Game Freak’s latest coat of polish only enhances an already captivating adventure. 4.5/5
  • Nintendo World Report – Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are way better games than last year’s X/Y while also improving on the Game Boy Advance originals. 9/10
  • Daely Reviews – With the lack of Mega Flygon, no Mega Milotic and no Battle Frontier, these are literally the worst Pokémon games ever. Ever. 2/10.

There are more reviews on Metacritic, which all seem favourable so go check them out!

    • I like to look at the whole “too much water” thing as a joke. The review states it’s about AS. Maybe if they did one for OR they would’ve put “too much land”.

  1. do you guys think its possible to exchange 2 target gift cards for Toys r us cards?
if so it would make thinks a hell a lot easier
I can use one for Omega for myself, and use the other for my brother for alpha
but i need the bundle not just for the adapter but for the extra controller
but finding one on day one will be tricky

  2. This is our last hope for Battle Frontier

Battle Frontier is a timed event
Palmer pays a visit to Hoenn Battle Frontier
You can battle Palmer and Anabel in a Double Battle

  3. Ok for those of u who have either X or Y downloaded to ur DS’ as opposed to the real cards I have a question. How is it? I’m gonna b stuck in a snow storm for the next couple of days and I may likely won’t b able to go out on Friday to pick up a copy of ORAS. If I download, will it b worth it or should I just wait til Saturday if Friday isn’t an option

    • well i can’t speak for having X or Y downloaded, but i do have borderlands 2 downloaded on my vita. download vs hard copy in general really comes down to preference. i love having games downloaded but there’s still that wanting to have a physical copy and all. if you want it badly enough, i’d say download it, if it’s not that bad of a want, i say wait the extra day. again, it’s really what you prefer.

      • I’m fine with downloads on other consoles it’s just the way Nintendo locks a game to ur console rather than to an account that makes me hesitant….which is y I ask so I can hear what other people think about it lol

    • It was the era of Pokémon Emerald, when thousands of players competed in facing and defeating the Aces Fight the Battle Frontier. Many players are wondering if the remake Ruby and Sapphire Omega Alpha, will be present whether or not the Battle Frontier. By now, we Pokémon Times, we can say with almost certainty, the presence of this area in the remake.

In fact, some hackers … they released the list of the soundtrack in the demo Ruby Sapphire Omega and Alpha. And with amazement, you may notice the presence of the soundtrack related to the Battle Frontier! The “names” of the soundtrack are: STRM_BGM_VS_BFRONTIER, STRM_BGM_BATTLE_RESORT and STRM_BGM_BATTLE_TOWER. Probably the Battle Frontier will be in the area still covered by clouds of Hoenn. In addition, there are two entries: SEQ_SE_KW_COUNTDOWN1 and

SEQ_SE_KW_COUNTDOWN2. Maybe it related to space travel with Rayquaza? To find out, we just have to wait for the official release of the two games!
