Pokémon ORAS Review Round-up

The embargo for ORAS review has lifted and reviews are now out in the wild. I’ve rounded up some of them here. Are you excited for ORAS launching this Friday (or next week) and are you curious if they live up to the hype. Spoilers: Nope, they are the worst Pokémon games ever.

  • Gamespot – Give these remakes enough time, and you begin to understand why Pokemon’s formula hasn’t changed much over the years. It’s a seemingly simple and cute journey, but with the underlying potential for strategy in combat, and a massive number of adorable Pokemon to catch, you can’t help getting hooked by Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. 8/10
  • GoNintendo – Overall, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire is a good improvement over the original Sapphire as well as last year’s X/Y releases. While it may not be the right game for players to jump back into the series or into it for the first time, it’s more enjoyable with a lot of streamlined features while adding new design elements that attempt to engage players in more aspects of the game.
  • IGN – As a 3D remake, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby do a fantastic job of reintroducing Hoenn. Little details, like characters turning their heads to look as you pass or flocks of Wingulls flying overhead, make the region really come to life, and small updates and tweaks help make the journey smoother.
  • Joystiq – Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire do little to overhaul the major pillars of a series that’s long relied on the same set of classic ideas, but they don’t have to. The core mechanics of Pokemon remain immensely addictive, and Game Freak’s latest coat of polish only enhances an already captivating adventure. 4.5/5
  • Nintendo World Report – Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are way better games than last year’s X/Y while also improving on the Game Boy Advance originals. 9/10
  • Daely Reviews – With the lack of Mega Flygon, no Mega Milotic and no Battle Frontier, these are literally the worst Pokémon games ever. Ever. 2/10.

There are more reviews on Metacritic, which all seem favourable so go check them out!

  1. Just on a side note, according to the list of upcoming anime episodes Serebii has on their site, it seems that Pokemon has finally decided to let Ash have a romantic relationship with Serena! Took them long enough.

  2. You guys are so mad that there might not be any more Megas xD
Just because they don’t happen now doesn’t mean they won’t happen in the future.

  5. For the same reasons that Djja left, I’m leaving until Friday as well. I believe Gamefreak is trying to psych us out is all. Just remember they’ve done it before with BW2. Don’t let these data mines influence how you feel about the games. REMEMBER, Gamefreak didn’t even have to make these games. They did it as a fan service. The least we can do is give it a fighting chance! Besides, we’ll all know everything by Friday.

    • Well, this is how i see it. Sure people are saying “no more megas” or “no BF” for one reason or another. But there is still one reason we should love the game all the same, and it reads like this: HOENN BITCHES. at least that’s how i see it.

  6. What spliff was IGN smoking when they gave it a 7.8/10 because it has “too much water”

It’s Hoenn. The land of the tropics.

  7. Apparently, there are NPC’s talking about the Battle Frontier being built and will come “very soon” or something along those lines. If this is something like the demo, Battle Frontier might open after a couple of days playing the game. I’m hoping for BF, guys. Haha

  10. Anyone else getting fed up of hearing people complain about IGN’s review…. seriously 7.8 is respectable and coming from IGN (who are notorious for never scoring remakes higher than 8.5) it is actually a 9.2/10 in terms of remakes. When they say too much water they are talking about how in their opinion the game is unbalanced. It is their opinion, they are entitled to one as much as we are and i know that some of you do not like the amount of water in the game, i personally love it but not everyone does.

    • I agree that IGN is great, but the review about pokemon OR/AS was stupid.
reasons:- HMs were the same in previews generations and no one did complain about them.
      – ‘Too much water’… I was pissed when I saw this. OF course there’s no balance, the most space of our planet is water and Hoenn is a tropical region, so it’s normal that these game contain ‘too much water’.

      • Yes but they are comparing this game to other pokemon games so technically in comparison to XY (5 HM’s) ORAS does have more and are relied on more to progress in the story so that is what they mean. As for the water that is them criticising the region in comparison to others such as Sinnoh and Kalos where there was less water routes. Unfortunately when you have a series of games, the newest is always going to be compared to the last one regardless of how relevant they are to each other.

          • Me Too! Hoenn is my favourite Region because of the water and tropical climate, thats why i love it but for some people (like us) to love it others must hate it.

      • The truth according to me is that they dont really have a problem with the water itself but instead the high frequency of tentacools. if surf appearing pokemon were reduced in their frequency it would have been an improvement from the original. also, HMs, reduced in XY were again increased in ORAS. so the point is not comparing ORAS and the originals, but seeing how ORAS incorporated the improvements from the games of this generation, from the originals. OFC I still hate IGN but this is how i see it from their viewpoint.

        • I still like IGN but in this review, they came with a couple of stupid excuses just to show that there are negatives on this game.
