Pokémon has just announced that Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be released in November 2014 for the Nintendo 3DS. Not much more is known. Below is what the official site posted in their announcement:
Announcing Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems! Prepare for an epic adventure exploring a world filled with Pokémon!
Pokémon fans first enjoyed Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version when it launched in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance. Now, a whole new generation of Pokémon fans will experience the dramatic storyline that unfolds in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire.
Look forward to Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire when the games launch worldwide in November 2014!
These games will be released in November world wide as confirmed by the Japanese announcement. The Japanese mini-site is kind of cool, by the way.

It’s still Hoenn. Yet, it might not be a true “remake”. More of a reboot of Hoenn with different characters and such. You could say more of a “sequel”. Thought, I might be wrong. As @disqus_KBqL2WKI6v:disqus said GameFreak twists their words a lot. Just like they did with Mewtwo!

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sappire will be 2D. 3D is only going to be used in certain parts. (Such as Battles, Caves/Buildings, Cutscenes, etc.). I was hoping the game would be in complete 3D! This is not a let down thought! 😀
I think it’s better this way for the time being. At least until they can improve their 3D to get rid of any lag so it’s actually worth using the 3D feature.
I always play 3DS games with 3D on. I swear. IDK how I endured the lag in X & Y. It was really noticeable with 3D on!
Yep. I played through the story using 3D whenever it let me. But I found the lag during some battles unbearable.
When you left Santalune Forest at the start of the game… My God. The lag was so bad! IK the 3DS is not super powerful, yet come on. It was only four 3D models.
