Journey Back to Hoenn – Roar of Time: Generation III

It seems like only yesterday I started the Journey to X & Y article series, when in actuality it’s fast approaching six months since I did! Admittedly the inferno of hype for X & Y has flickered down into a smouldering cinder, but that’s expected, the games are out. Many of our readers enjoyed the articles we ran last year, and we’ve decided to continue the generation weeks we failed to complete before the release of the games. They’ll be a little different however—just a title change really, but still a heap of fun!

In Roar of Time we asked our readers what they would add to older games, if they gained the ability to travel back in time and make any change or additions they wanted. This time round it’s the same deal! If you could take control of Dialga and morph time back to the early development stages of Ruby and Sapphire (or any of the other Third Generation games!), what would you change? What would you take away? What would you add?

We don’t want you to be too outrageous here, keep things realistic. You could also pick something completely obvious, but what’s the fun in that? As we said in the first article don’t forget to consider how your change or addition would have an effect on the future of Pokémon games.

Get those brains working and tell us your ideas, we’ll be featuring our favourites in the next Roar of Time (who can guess what that will focus on?)

Please remember to Like us on Facebook and Follow us on Twitter! Or, if forums are your thing register on our forums, we always look forward to new members joining!

As a side note, please, please try to control your commenting on this article, when it comes to finding content for featuring it becomes very difficult if I have to filter through 1,000 comments saying you’re home from school, or asking if anyone is ‘here’. We have a chat, please use it!

  1. now i feel bad about getting off topic again :/ but I would love for walking with your pokemon to be reintroduced c: that was my fav part of HG/SS and i’m sure it would look AMAZING on the 3DS. Also I felt more connected with my pokemon walking with me instead of it being inside of it’s pokeball all the time except too battle.

  2. Hmmmm for RS i would go back in time and make a battle frontier
For Emerald i would like the Battle frontier have the rules like they are today

  3. So since we’re talking bout Secret Bases where was your Preferred Base Location?
Mine was a Bush right outside Fortree City to the west

    • North of Rustboro, use Surf and surf North, climb that route with the bike slide, and go all the way south, there’s one of my secret bases.

The other I would switch to would be west of Fortree City on that water route where Feebas is. Surf all the way down, and you’ll reach a tree. Mine was on the left side of the tree :3

    • Mine was often changed either
The one in middle of the water on route 114 or the one near the fighter on route 111

    • And that sort of SCREAMS no Hoenn since it doesn’t look like any Pokemon in existence, let alone any Pokemon in Hoenn.

      • Well Hoenn will still come. It’s just I believe this will be a perpetual generation, where they will add new Pokemon in the next games this year, send a update to XY to make them compatible with the new games, and then in 2015 they will release the Emerald remake, since its the 10th anniversary of emerald (2005-2015) and the 20th aniv of Pokemon (1995-2015) so they will have to do something big. 10th aniv of Gold & Silver they released HG & SS

        • But they had a reason to remake HGSS because it was where many old Pokemon fans had to leave their generation 1 & 2 Pokemon after learning that there was no way to transfer their companions to Hoenn. And other than that, Gold, Silver and Crystal had a lot of epic things like how eventually battled your old character named Red, you could explore TWO regions and you had to battle against 16 gym leaders instead of 8 to finish the story. HGSS were really needed and revived the love for Gold, Silver and Crystal, but unlike GSC, Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald lie on borderline questionable, even without the need for X & Y sequel/s or a generation 7.

  4. i loved how you could decorate your room in Emerald. I’n nit sure if this feature was in any other games.
I always had a big Snorlax Plushie in mine.

  5. Random tidbits:

-Kalos ties with Hoenn for the the largest amount of towns and cities (16)
-Kalos is the only region lacking a department store (Can’t wait to see Lilycove Department in XY Graphics)
-Hoenn is the only region that hasn’t been rendered in 3D, and the only region to not have day/night.
-Zygarde watches over the ecosystem. Groudon/Kyogre are known for destroying the ecosystem 0_0

  6. Add: more cities and more story events AND MORE CUTSCENES!

Take Away: Lots of the water routes. Those were tedious.

Change: Some routes to make them less straightforward. And keep Steven as champion, not Wallace.
