Thanks everyone for your wonderful articles. By the time this post goes up, the admission period for round one closes. Everyone who passed should have received their email already. I’ll post all the names below, so everyone can see who makes a chance at getting featured! Now, let’s go on with the details for round two!
What you need to do
For round two, we need a full-fledged article, to be featured in the magazine. It should be about two pages in Word, font size 11 (which is about 900 words). The article should have a rather timeless aspect, that is, it should be readable within two years and still make the same impact. Make sure it is fit for a magazine, so don’t make use of tables or list, or too many sprites. Take care of your grammar and spelling. If you win, we’ll still go sit together and iron all the kinks out, but a cleanly written article makes a much better impression. You can resubmit your article from round one if you think it is substantial enough. Submissions must reach me before January 3rd. I’ll send reminders to everyone if I haven’t got your article before December 27th. Winners (:)) will be announced somewhere around January 12th.
What you can win
In a change of plans, two articles can get featured in the magazine. Both will receive a printed copy of the magazine. If you didn’t win, it’s possible we’ll feature your article on the site in a revisit to a feature we revealed a while ago.. We’ll contact you in the case we want to see it featured. Sadly, there’s no prize coupled to this other than fame.

What’s the shiny ratio for consecutive fishing? 1/150?

I would think is would be around that range, because I found three shinies today using the method.
So you’d encountered approximately 600 Pokemon today with this method?
I had VERY short chains for all three shinies. Like, under 40 for Clawitzer and probably around 60 or 70 for Remoraid (Octillery) and Goldeen (Seaking)
Apparently that is the ratio for regular chaining, roughly 1/200. Meaning it would be lower for consecutive fishing, correct? Going back to my initial estimate of 1/150.
Whatever it is, it basically guarantees you a shiny (or multiple if you are like me)

I REALLY want to find two shiny Clamperls to get shiny Huntail and Gorebyss (if I can even get another DeepSeaScale and Tooth). I just don’t want to risk finding more shiny Remoraids.
Why not just try for a shiny huntail/gorebyss?
Well, I can, but the chances of even finding a normal one are very low.
Lol. I found five normal huntail easily, but I understand.
Out of two shinies I can get in a route, I always seem to get the one I am not looking for. That is why I do not trust myself to actually find a shiny Clamperl without getting another purple Remoraid.

What does the ability magic guard do
All passive damage is negated: (Posion, Burn, Weather, Recoil, Spikes, Stealth Rock etc.)

Yeah sometimes stats are deceptive for example: Arcanine may have average defense, but if you factor in intimidate, it’s defense appears like base 140 instead of base 80

I don’t understand that move’s calculations. But I’m assuming since Arcanine uses Intimidate, its Attack is probably higher, resulting in more damage from Foul Play? Except you’d burn the Foul Play user xD

Wait, who’s Attack does it take into account? How much higher yours is, or how much higher your opponents is? And too bad Mawile can’t learn Foul Play other than a tutor.
So at level 100 my Arcanine has 256 atk. EVen when you are burned, Foul Play ends up as a physical Dark move with 95 BP coming off from 512 atk!

But 512 is doubling your attack
Mega Mawlie is using Foul Play. Foul Play uses the opponent;s attack during calculation Arcanine’s attack in this case. Which also gets doubled by Huge Power during calculation.

Tell me about it! 😀 But I think my best advise to you, now that you know the ropes to battling and have won a good couple of matches. Read some of the articles on smogon. Not the movesets, but the articles on intro to competitive. Trust me you will learn a lot more than you think! xD
I was actually just reading about Whimiscott before! Ok, so I was reading on Smogon that apparently Sub+Seed is not a good strategy anymore. I was planning Whimiscott for that strategy, but now I’m thinking of going Cotton Guard, Encore, Leech Seed, and Moon Blast.
So you remember choice scarf u-turn right? How no matter what, you will always be in a situation where you can choose a pokemon that is good against the opponent? That is the key to using Whimsicott. So something like: U-turn, Taunt, Encore, Stun Spore/Leech Seed
Example: A dragonite is dragon dancing to +2 and you switch-in whimsicott….first use +1 encore to lock him in. Then use taunt so it will have to struggle.
Taunt would force Dragonite to Struggle!? :O
yup cuz it’s DD locked. ANd then taunt prevents that so the next turn it will have to switch othewise it will struggle. That’s when you leech seed on the switch…and then u-turn out xD

go with def and HP impish. resistance to EQ, Close Combat are just too good. Along with resistance to crunch, Waterfall. Plus immunity to dragon!
