Dae asks: Did you buy a 3DS for Pokémon?

I still remember the first year the 3DS launched. It was one rough year, with barely any worthwhile games released for the system. After half a year a massive price cut was issued and people thought Nintendo were doomed forever. Nintendo put all their effort in making the 3DS the success it should have been. After a lukewarm 2012 Nintendo tried to hit back with big hits in 2013, one of those being Pokémon X & Y.

People were saying for over two years that they would never the failure that is 3DS, but the tides seem to have turned looking back at the recent hardware sales. Now I ask you: did Pokémon pull you over? Or did you already have a 3DS well before Pokémon was even announced? Or were it multiple games that made you buy it but Pokémon was the decisive factor? Tell me all about it in the comments!

I’m currently busy with PJNM, so my review got put on hold but I’ll try to make sure it hits the coming week! Until then!

  1. To answer my own question, I got my 3DS the day before launch day (lol). Bought it for all the Nintendo franchises that eventually would come out. It did collect some pretty dust over the years though, and it was only when Fire Emblem came out I started playing regularly

  2. What happens when a Pokemon has Max Affection and one pops out of it for a critical hit or losing freeze/burn? Does it lose that heart from Max Affection?

  3. Maybe I should save Wonder Trading my collection of Shinx and Growlithe until a time period where the WT isn’t infested with bratty kids. -__-

    • I know, I had many of the same fossil Pokemon because I wanted the cover fossil, so I wonder traded and what I got back, weak Pokemon.

      • I get a tad let down when I trade good nature, good egg moves Pokemon, and I get a Metapod, a Caterpie, a Fletchling, or a Bunnelby. -_-

        • I’ve done an entire box of Vulpix, and half of the Pokemon I got back were great, including an Adament Mawile and Gale Wing Fletchling. Other half were meh, some weren’t in my Pokedex. I realized weekends are the worst because it’s when all the dumbass kids play.

      • It’s fine, as long as I get it sometime today or tomorrow, take your time! But when I change the time on my 3DS, it doesn’t affect the records too much as long as you change the time back as soon as you’re done. 🙂

  4. I did not buy my own 3ds for Pokemon. I can’t afford to buy my own 3ds, but thank God/Arceus/Goomy that my sister lets me use hers. I will get my own 3ds in the near future.

  5. When I first heard about the 3DS, I told everyone of my friends at school. They didn’t believe me. Keep in mind that this was when it was first announced in Japanese. I was so excited! When it first came out I was a bit skeptical about getting one, so I waited. Then my DS lite started getting old. It now has dead pixels and the volume rocker is stuck, so you have to use force to turn up or down the volume. I decided it was time for a new DS, but why not a 3DS XL with all of the awesome games it has like MK7 or SM3DL? I started saving up and after a lot of convincing and watching reviews of games and the 3DS it was time. I waited until Black Friday (2012) and I was the first one at Target that day. I got the last blue one 😀 I enjoyed every feature of it.

Then I got my first game, Mario Kart 7, which I still haven’t beaten. The 3D features are amazing! Now that Pokemon has come out, I have to charge my 3DS like 2 times a day because I play it too much. Multiple games made me buy it. Pokemon wasn’t announced at that time but I knew it would be so that made me want to obtain one. So glad I bought the XL. It’s really worth the extra $30.

In conclusion, those who doubted the 3DS will pay (Pokedollars). I love Nintendo & Game Freak.
