I still remember the first year the 3DS launched. It was one rough year, with barely any worthwhile games released for the system. After half a year a massive price cut was issued and people thought Nintendo were doomed forever. Nintendo put all their effort in making the 3DS the success it should have been. After a lukewarm 2012 Nintendo tried to hit back with big hits in 2013, one of those being Pokémon X & Y.
People were saying for over two years that they would never the failure that is 3DS, but the tides seem to have turned looking back at the recent hardware sales. Now I ask you: did Pokémon pull you over? Or did you already have a 3DS well before Pokémon was even announced? Or were it multiple games that made you buy it but Pokémon was the decisive factor? Tell me all about it in the comments!

I bought the 3DS when it first released. And the one title I bought with it was Samurai Warriors Chronicles (fond memories from the PSP version which got destroyed) 🙁
I knew that there would eventually be Pokemon games on the 3DS (Super Pokemon Rumble being the first major…I think)
And compared to the Vita sales, I think the 3DS was quite successful
*sigh* poor Vita…..It’s such a great system. I wish Sony would do more for it….
I have a Vita, again with another Koei title at Launch (Dynasty Warriors Next), it’s not fair how the west (well I’m from the UK but still) get next to nothing with the games, Japan get all the good games (yes I know, obviously, wouldn’t hurt to translate tho)
I bought a 3DS after the price drop on the Black Friday for that year. Out of all the 3 companies Nintendo is the only one I can buy console when there is reallg isn’t that much games because I know what is comming.

i think the 3ds is quite astounding. I had one for awhile before pokemon x and y, and it sure has some great games! Resident evil: Revelations is easily my favorite resident evil of all time, and it being on the 3ds is absolutely amazing. ocarina of time 3d is an breathtakingly beautiful game! snake eater is a game that I thought could not be done on a hand held, but they pulled it off with aplomb. x and y were obviously a smash hit, and speaking of smash, we’ll be getting another great game come next year!
I got my 3DS right at launch and pretty much used it for Mario cart and Pokemon rumble. I mostly used my Dsi for my regular ds games. then after X and Y were announce I decided to get the XL. So now I have a red 3DS XL too.
I mainly got mine for the mario games coming out, and x and y was a great bonus
I got my original 3DS on launch day, March 27 2011. Then, on March 14, 2013, I got my Pikachu 3DS XL which was “specifically” for Pokemon. I then sold my original 3DS to my friend for $100 so we could both play X and Y together. THE END.
I had a DSi XL previously but upgraded to the 3DS XL just for three games. Gates to Infinity, X and Y.
I got an original 3DS on launch as a gift from my parents. I was seriously at the time like, “Thanks, but there is literally NOTHING out for this right now.” It took about four to five months for me to get any good 3DS games. Oh, and I wasn’t able to get the Ambassador Program games, I didn’t go online with my 3DS for about five months due to lack of internet and my barcode has worn out.
Well I bought it a while ago pretty much for Ocarina of Time, but I would have bought it for X&Y if I didn’t have one
Now we have Link Between Worlds to look forward to.
Can’t wait!
And there are so many hints of a Majora’s Mask remake coming from this game… IT HAS TO BE WII U!

Dang! That was a while ago! I have wind waker for gamecube and I really liked it, but when I got to this one puzzle where I to swing on ropes in Tetras ship, I couldn’t do it and I gave up! This was a long time ago though haha. But I saw commercials for Pikmin 3 and looked fun but I’ve never played a pikmin game before, are they any good?
There was that one puzzle on some pirate ship where you have to say the password to enter…we kept typing in “Treasure” but it never worked.
What was the actual password?

Yeah that’s right. I still don’t understand how I could beat skyward sword, ocarina of time, and twilight princess yet not get past those ropes..
The only 3D Zelda I have not beaten is Majora’s Mask. And Skyward Sword.

Me and my distant friend used to play Wind Waker all the time…so when I buy it I will track him down and have us play it again.

Be warned, they change the puzzles to make everything confusing. Fire temple was annoying IIRC.
im scared of the water temple in the master quest… though I pretty much memorized the normal version of it, the 3ds version was a lot better in hinting where to go.

I bought it because I saw some cool games that were coming to the 3ds.
Well the 3DS was my first portable game system, I bought it last year in September (Before X and Y was announced). I was gonna buy a DS Lite, but decided to splurge, mostly because it was obvious the next Pokemon games were gonna be on 3DS. XD
So technically Yes and No, as to whether or not X and Y was the reason I got a 3DS.
I got my 3DS the Christmas after its first price drop. There was no way in hell i was gonna make my mom buy it for $250! XD
But, nonetheless, I got mine because I knew that the first main Pokemon game was gonna be one of the best, and I did’nt want to wait until I heard anything about it ’cause I knew I wasn’t gonna get it.
Oh, and it was the limited edition Ocarina of Time 3DS. You know, the one with the gold design. :3

I preordered my XL as soon as it was announced alongside Kingdom Hearts 3D. I bought it for that and Pokemon specifically. I figured RS remakes would be announced soon and I figured they’d be on the 3DS. I was excited about the limitations of features in the console, but game wise it’s the favorite of my console purchases yet.

At some parts yes. The worlds were just meh. Loved that Square Enix decided to acknowledge TWEWY though.

Never had the chance to play BBS. No PSP. I’ll wait till next year and get KH 2.5 HD and get KH 2 Final MIx and BBS Final Mix!
I highly enjoyed it. I liked the gameplay and world designs best. Not my favorite though. It’s a good lead up to KH 3. I did not like the dream eaters though. Having them as enemies was okay but having them as partners felt too childish. Their designs and the idea felt like a pokemon rip off. I wish Birth by Sleep would be released for 3DS, but it’s being remade for PS3!
The story got soooo confusing now though.
Still easy for me to follow. The most confusing and pointless game was Re: Coded.

I got my Black 3ds at launch (ambassador program was a nice touch for those that paid the original full price) but recently got the Blue XY 3DS XL and i love it!! Plus there are more than enough games out for it now to warrant buying it. Had i not bought it at launch i would have gotten it for Ocarina of Time so no XY would not have made me buy it however had OOT not been released then yes they would have.
This is where Nintendo works best… there’s very few exclusive franchise’s for Sony and Microsoft that would make you buy a console just for that game but Nintendo has loads! Closest one to equal a nintendo franchise for me would be Kingdom Hearts…which may cause me to buy the PS4.
I transferred my data from my ambassador 3DS so now I can play Yoshi’s Island in full 3DS XL screen capacity 😀

I leveled up so much in that game that I could take out kackletta in in one attack… (cyclone bros… tornado bros…. I don’t remember the name of the attack) but yeah it was awesome. I never played another Mario & luigi afterward though. are they good?
Partners in Time is good, Bowsers Inside Story lets you wreck shit with Bowser, and Dream Team, well let’s just say this, beat the game and you get hard mode.
Sony does have some good exclusive back in the PS and PS2 days but then they hopped on the dudebro bandwaggon and started making shooters and other “mature” bullcrap. As for Microsoft, they ruined Rare who used to be the best 2nd company under Nintendo.
Yup, i remember when Spyro and Crash bandicoot used to be Sony exclusives and they were cool but with series like Mario, Pokemon and Zelda you really can’t beat Nintendo 😀

Bought my 3DS XL purely because of X & Y (with a group of friends who did the same). Heck, the only reason I ever bought a Nintendo console (Wii & GBA SP being the exception) was a Pokemon game with no regrets. I admit, the systems have great games, but I look at Pokemon first, buy console and game, finish game, finish game again, then look at other titles.
Did anybody ever play that Gamefreak game Drill Dozer? I still remember the amazing music from that game.
