  1. The design is very… weird, but like it. I also think that th artwork and the in-game picture are strongly different.
Sorry if I made any mistake, because I’m spanish and I love your website 😀 ♥

    • i don’t think they are the same Pokemon
i mean come on they are so different maybe it’s the Evolution

      Reply
      • Now I think that the sheath is ”possessed” by a ghost, and the blue part works as a hand to unseath the sword, like in the secondpicture

        Reply
  2. I like it, it has a weird quirky celtic kinda vibe. It also makes me wonder if it will have a shield counterpart.

  3. Although I want a Ghost / Steel wall clock, but this design is also great! I seem to see Bronzong and Cofagrigus!

  4. Not really my first choice for Ghost/Steel type but as long as there is a Ghost/Steel type i can’t be happier i hope it has an evolution

  5. Excalibur!!
I like the unique design. It looks like this will be one of those Pokemon based off an object, Actually my first thought when I saw it was: “it has that ancient look to it like bronzong”
The way the cloth splits into parts at the end makes me think that’s its used as a hand.

    • What about…

Noivern? We have never had a Wyvern Pokemon, and it looks neato. (IMO)
Xerneas and Yvetal? Based on Norse Mythology, something not touched in the Pokemon universe.
Clauncher? Pistol Shrimp, again, untouched animal.

Sure, in every generation, there are going to be the few that just seemed uninspired to us by the fans. However, in every gen, there is always a Pokemon with a great amount of creativity put behind it. 🙂

  6. MONOrpale, HITOtsuki. Both French and Japanese names have meaning “one” in them. Makes me wonder if it’ll multiply as it evolves.

    Reply
          • If it does have levitate, then it will have only one weakness: Fire.
Hitotsuki could be an amalgamation of Hitotsu and Suki, yes.

          • Yeah, but the “tsu”cannot be replaced for a “su” as that would make it a different word.
Hi-to-tsu-ki. In Japanese each of these syllables is its own character, and hence cannot be dissected any further 🙂
(In other words, you can’t take the “t” from “tsu” and pass it as a “su”)
Let me put it like this: No Japanese native would come to the conclusion it is from “suki”(隙)under these circumstances.

          • But Pokemon names generally work in that way. Cutting some words, adding it to different words, having different meanings.

          • Yes, but not in this case when you’re splicing “tsu” (つ) and “su” (す) while they have similar romanizations, the two can’t be interchanged like in English.

          • Not in japanese… They can’t cut a character meaning “tsu” to make it sound “su”…

  7. This is actually one of my favourite Pokemon revealed so far, behind Noivern, and along with Flabebe and Helioptile.

  8. I like one idea that one of my followers on twitter told me, Monorpale may have two formes, one, te atack form, when it is unsheathed and the other, defense form, when it is in th sheath

    Reply
  9. With the Celtic style to the sword’s sheath, could we possibly looking at a Dullahan-like evolution or a Dullahan-esque Pokemon?

    Reply
  10. i love it. it is not something we were all expecting. It reminds me of the items found in the show “Xiaolin Showdown”; but anyways I hope it evolves into something like a knight!

  11. Does anyone think that this pokemon can be like a slowpoke/shellder or mantyke/remoraid evolution? that if it is exposed to a different pokemon, that pokemon may evolve into something holding a sword of that likeness?

    Reply
  12. I like the tassle it has on its’ hilt. I like that they have gone for a more ornate sword than just an actual sword.

  13. *looks up posessed French Swords*

“In the Matter of France, Roland possessed an indestructible sword, Durendal, which he threw into a poisoned stream to prevent its capture. Durendal was one of a set of three swords supposedly forged by Wayland and provided as ransom for a Norse captive, the other two being variously Bishop Turpin’s sword Almace,Charlemagne’s Joyeuse, or Ogier’s sword Curtana.”

      • oo! Interesting idea! Either in its evolutions or counterparts, I can almost guarantee there’s some form of number theme.

        Reply
    • I feel like “possessed” in this context is referring to Roland’s ownership of the sword, as opposed to “possession” in the spiritual sense

      Reply
      • It is. The legend of Sir Roland never mentioned anything about his sword becoming possessed after his death. It was just broken.

        Reply
    • English name may have Excalibur reference or not since French name is based on Vorpal sword. I’ve always wondered why did they use Excadrillbur reference?

      Reply
  14. WOW, very original and creative, I love it! But I don’t know, I might not include it in my team. Need to see its evolution to considerate it even more.

    Reply
  15. I actually really like this design, more than I was expecting too. Will definately feature on my mono-ghost team.

  16. I can already hear some fans screaming about this generation sucking just because this Pokemon is a sword.

I am personally not sure what to think…except Steel/Ghost is a combination I wanted! I hope that maybe, this Pokemon can evolve into a possessed body of armor? I can picture the design in my head….

  17. Monoraple may be derived from mono + Vorpal sword?
In some Japanese works, Vorpal sword seems to be called Maken. It has a curse force that can penetrate reality.

  18. I see it as this Gen’s Unown, Claydol, Spiritomb, Sigilyph. The weird looking pokemon of the gen with an eye plastered somewhere

    Reply
      • Yes I forgot about Bronzor and Magnemite haha

        Gen 1 Eye = Magnemite
        Gen 2 Eye = Unown
        Gen 3 Eye = Claydol
        Gen 4 Eye = Bronzor
        Gen 5 Eye = Sigilyph
Gen 6 Eye = Monopale or w/e its name is

  19. this looks like this pokemon would most likely have a pre-evolution then evolve. and the first thing that comes to mind with that a little dagger pokemon

    Reply
    • That’d be pretty awesome.
But, I kinda feel like it’ll be a standalone Pokémon. No evos for it, like Spiritomb.
      Hopefully, I’m wrong.

      Reply
      • I think this pokemon might be similar to Yamask and evolve into a “Haunted Suit of Armor” but then again I wouldn’t be surprised if it is a standalone.

  20. To be honest, when I first saw it I thought of Chimecho. Although, I like this more than Chimecho. I hope it learns some great moves.

  21. I’ve been wanting a Steel/Ghost pokemon since Gen II. I am happy that Game Freak delivered that epic type combination on a silver plattr. The design looks very impressive.

  22. I am going to type this as sober as possible. I swear to arceus on me mum that if gf continues making this phag it tree I am going to scrap the fisty cuffs. If they make this garbage again or ever try to I will go crazy and cut me own leg. I am so disappoint. I come from the ghetto with the hard knock mentality buy I swear on me mum this is too ghetto for me. No poke balls were tossed that day. Pls respond

  23. Monorpale looks awesome in it’s sheath, but once it removes it, its…its just a sword, really bland once you remove the sheath, but with it It looks really awesome, hopefully it gets an evolution that wows me

  24. Strange strange design. I can appreciate its’ oddity, but I’m not sure I actually like the design. Though, I’m sure that opinion of mine will change at some point.

    • That ice cream pokemon was just an ice cream. However you can see a creative input in this pokemon. How would anyone think of making a ghost sword pokemon that can take off its scabbard with a hand-like figure that is actually a sword tassel.

      Reply
        • It would be Ok to have just Vanillite as a standalone Pokemon but they made it 3 staged evolution line. This is too much. Oh God, thinking it again makes my blood sugar drop. I can’t…

          Reply
        • I don’t know why people complain about Vanillite. I mean look at Exeggcute from 1st Gen, it was a set of Eggs with mean/smiley faces

          Reply
    • To me, an ice cream Pokémon is a bit weird because you can eat ice cream.
A possessed sword Pokémon is pretty cool because, well, it’s a Steel/Ghost-type haunted sword!
Does’t that scream “awesome” to you?

      Reply
    • Most of the crap people talk about in a pokemon’s design can be applied to another pokemon in a different gen. Just how people work I guess.

      Reply
    • See, I disliked Vanilluxe because it was a smiley face on an ice cream cone. There are so many different things you can do with pure Ice and they made a smiling ice cream cone and an angry snow flake.
I like Hexcalibur because it has a nice design, similar to bronzong (one of my bros) and there really isn’t much else you can do with a ghost/steel typing themed in a french-based region. I thought it was a good fit and I’ve always been partial to swords.

      Reply
  25. i love it if that’s it’s face on the sheath with two closed eyes and a closed mouth, and that eye on the handle of the sword, and the ribbony thing is like a hand, but if the sheath is just a sheath and it’s just a sword with an eye, then i’m just indifferent really, still like it, but wouldn’t love it so much. maybe it evolves into that knight pokemon that was rumoured?

    Reply
  26. I’m not sure what to think about this Pokemon. It’s…a sword with an eye, and a arm thing. Idk, I just feel like the concept could have been taken in a more creative way. It’s a possessed sword… Idk. I kinda like it in some way, though. I hope its evolution is awesome.

  27. Can anyone explain to me why the pokemon in the first and second photos are different…? Just a bit confused
But I do like the Pokemon, it’s actually really cool (but then again, I’m one of those that likes Vanilite)

    Reply
  28. That is so badass, it reminds me of Excalibur

I’m glad Everyone is excited about this Pokemon and it didn’t turn into another Vannilite

Now hopefully it doesn’t stab any Pokenon during battle

    Reply
    • I feel like it could evolve into a bayonet pokemon though I feel like that’s WAY too adult for pokemon…

  29. I can see this thing learning things like Leaf Blade, Swords dance, Night Slash, Fury swipes, Wide guard etc Just some examples.

  30. This is such a cool pokemon design and I absolutely love it! The typing is amazing too. I’ve wanted a steel/ghost forever and a haunted sword is perfect!

  31. I think it’s kind of cool how it holds its scabbard in battle. If we get unique fainting animations (I don’t think that’s been confirmed yet, but I’d expect as much), I’d like to imagine that it puts itself back into the scabbard before dropping to the ground/being recalled. I’m with the other people who think that it’ll evolve into a haunted suit of armor.

  32. Tbh I don’t know what to think about this pokemon I would never expect a ghost sword pokemon. I like the concept but the desgin is kinda werid. It’s basically justa sword with a single eye. Maybe it will evolve into a knight pokemon?

    Reply
    • 1. Nice name. 2. Unoriginal? A possessed sword is more unoriginal than a pokeball with eyes that evolves by flipping over?

      Reply
  33. I was saying I hoped this Pokemon evolved into possessed armor, and I made a quick drawing to display my idea….

On a Knight’s headpiece, they have that fluff on the back. That would be replaced by a ghostly aura, which could also be what connects the seperate pieces. Those brown blobs are the sheathes that hold his swords (or in this case, the Monorpale :3). I just think it is cool if all the pieces were seperated and floating around. Maybe, just maybe, it could evolve into something like this. If so, I will have it on my team :3

    Reply
    • Yes. I think the sword would look better if it was more like a Great Sword or a Lance, rather then a Dual Sword. Nonetheless a good drawing!

      Reply
    • well i expect that it evolve into a possessed armor because i dont want it to be like vanilite evolution line that it only add another sword or add a shield to it because it will look really stupid………PLEASE BE A POSSESSED ARMOR POKEMON…….it will be stupid playing with it in pokemon amie

      Reply
    • I don’t know if it would go straight to a possessed armor from a sword, but if anything it would be nice to have it evolve then evolve again adding parts each time, much like beldum and its evos.

  34. Is the idea that the sword itself isn’t the Pokemon but instead the Pokemon is actually the ghost that inhabits the sword?

  35. This was only released this morning and there is already a lot of fan art for it… I guess once u go pokemon u never go back!

  36. Who else feels that if we meet Ghetsis during the game (PWC or other such things) he will have this pokemon on his team?

    Reply
  37. looks like a sword you would find in the ghost ship in wind waker if the treasure that you found there wasn’t a sea chart. What I’m saying is its design is very reminiscent with that of Wind Waker art style which makes it amazingly well designed.

    Reply
    • thanks! i was going to ask when it would be released, as it didn’t appear in the internet during the afternoon! well, i expected something more than just one new pokemon (maybe 2), but at least we know Monorpale (which i like), and in 10 days corocoro will be released and leaked, so we’ll probably have another bunch of pokemon info!
but it’s interesting. through the subtitles (even though i’m not studying french now), he explained that he travelled to France in the past, in 2000, and in 2010 due to the release of Pokemon Black and White, and after that, he took his team and travelled all together to France, where he had to hire some guides and ask the French localization team to help them with language issues. and of course, they took ideas from the french environment and buildings to create the Kalos region.

  38. I think Monorpale gonna evolve into a steel/ghost twin blade pokemon and then evolve into a steel/ghost celtic warrior. I mean it makes more since. I will love to have that evolution line:
Sword pokemon (Monorpale) –> Twin Blade pokemon –> Celtic Warrior pokemon

  39. Am I the only one who notices that these are TWO different looking sword Pokemon? Was this some kind of forme change or something?

  40. Lame & Boring as expected. 90% of X&Y have been disappointments
and a “sword” is another example of it. It’s suppose to be animals, not
picking objects that have some sort of connection with the culture
you’re using for your game. Other than Yvetal & Xerneas, every
pokemon revealed so far won’t even make it to OU, they’re simple filler
    pokes and lame, including “Monorpale(wtf?)”.

    Reply
    • because pokeMON (as in monsters) only means animals? -_- and what’s this about tiers? They don’t make/break a pokemon. First of all the pokemon shown have barely showed their other stages so of course they’d look weak. Second, how can you tell a pokemons stats by how it looks? And btw pokemon have been objects and things that connect to culture like bronzor, chimeco, and driftloon.

      Reply
    • noob… ‘won’t even make it to OU’
how do you know that without their stats, abilities and movepool released?
      sit down kid.

      Reply
    • You do realise that all you do on this site is complain, What you have wrote is YOUR opinion and not fact, so stop posting like you know facts! Does every pokemon have to be in OU? No. People can use whatever pokemon they want to, you talk as if this is the first game to feature inanimate objects as Pokemon…erm ever heard of Muk, Magnimite, Voltorb , Eggecute???
You absolutely reek of someone who only uses Psuedo legendarys and Legendarys coz you cant beat the games without them. If you don’t like the game, don’t buy it, problem solved.

Ugh. It seems like some people feel that Game Freak is running out of ideas and they’re imagination just isn’t what it used to be…
Welp, those people can go suck something because Game Freak has been inspired with “weird” ideas for Pokémon since 1996.
Nothing has changed other than your tolerance for these unique ideas.
Have you people really just noticed Game Freak’s use of weirdness/uniqueness??

  42. Does anyone realize that if its steel/ghost type, fighting will not be able to hit it, and ground moves will likely miss due to levitate (it seems to be hovering) so it will only have weaknesses to Fire, Dark, and Ghost.

    Reply
    • No, unless it has Levitate, It is only weak to Fire and Ground, Steel resists Dark And Ghost, so it would take neutral damage from these types…that’s a BADASS combination of types!

  43. I’m I was thinking monorpale is not the sword itself but the spooky tassel thingy. It also looks like the “spirit” is trapped within the sword known as monorpale trying to escape maybe when monorpale evolves the spirit possessing the sword comes out and fights with the sword

    Reply
  44. Personaly i like the idea behind it, it also looks pretty good

Besides, if it gets levitate it would be a pretty usefull pokemon in my opinion..

But what i don’t get.. is that soo many people are hating on it already.. and it hasn’t even been revealed for that long.. something like a day now..

But yeah.. i’m hoping for a knight-like evolution, two stage or three stage, both would do in my opinion
