Burokko was just a rumored name that had no connection to Yanappu’s figure. People assumed it was its name since it sounded like broccoli, but that figure IS Yanappu, no matter how fat the toy is.

Yes, in the first gym if you choose mijumaru at the start. There are other similar species like Yanappu. They are fire and water types.

You can get Yanappu if you choose Mijumaru at the start.

No sorry. To get Yanappu you have to choose Pokabu at the start… and you will fight against a water Yanappu in the first gym.

Appu is unlikely to be a representation of “ape” in my opinion, since “appu” is pronounced similarly to the Simpsons’ character.
Also, it’s unlikely that the Japanese would break up the “na” syllable like that.

First of all Ape would be “eipu”.
Second, Yanappu’s name in Japanese letter pronounciation is YA-NA-P-PU. 4 letters. Meaning you can’t split a letter such as “NA” in half to make “A” ((A)ppu).
On English Pokesites people like to assume everything has some kind of origin. But to Japanese sometimes things simply have a “nice ring” and thats good enough to name something. Clefairy’s Japanese name for example is “Pippi” which has no real meaning however it sounds cute, light and happy.

gahh my original plan was to use each of the starters for my first play through, now all i wanna do is use grass types. and unless it gets a crummy evo, i kinda want to use broccoli over smugleaf.
I think Tsutaaja(Smugleaf) is really cool same for Yannupu but I just cant make a decision!
yeah, it really depends on their final forms. but honestly this is one of the first gen’s ive considered not using the grass starter right of the batt. and its all because of this lil guy. honestly im loving this gen. and also this is the first gen where i actually want to use the water starter.
the question though is will we have another fighting type monkey on our hands? or is broccoli gonna stay pure typing?
