FAKE: Generation VIII Starter Pokémon Revealed?!

THESE HAVE NOW BEEN DEBUNKED AS FAKE! The artist has been found. Now you can let us know if you’re RELIEVED or DISAPPOINTED by the news. We’re still leaving the post up in its original form for continued discussion.

A post, apparently made on a Chinese forum, included three photographs of what purport to be the starting Pokémon for the next game. As with all rumor posts we advise you not to treat these as real until officially confirmed.

We’re remaining very suspicious until there’s any other outside corroboration to their authenticity. Because of the situation with Gen VII’s leaked final evolutions some artists may just be wanting to get our hopes up early this time. We encourage users to treat these as FAKE until there’s any more evidence! The Japanese does not seem quite up to par.

If you’re interested though, here are the final typings that were mentioned alone with the photos:

  • Grass-line ultimately becomes Grass/Electric-type
  • Fire-line ultimately becomes Fire/Steel-type
  • Water-line remains pure Water-type

Hopefully we’ll learn the truth about these in the coming weeks!

  1. It’s February! I think January went a little…different…than we expected, with a Direct mini crammed with ports and Nintendo-brand cardboard assembly products, but it was fine for news all around. Here’s hoping this month gives us the main Direct we’ve been waiting for, as is rumored.

  2. Looks like I am in the minority when it comes to the new tmnt show lol whatever nothing new there 🤣 I loved the power rangers suits in the new movie, love the wwe spinner belt and incineroar among other things so nothing new for me I suppose lol

  3. Can I go ahead and ask for a crossover with the 2003 turtles? The 84 turtles got to cross over with 2003 and 2012. I want to see the turtles I grew up with react to the new ones. In particular Raph finding out this Raph is leader lol

    • Isn’t it that like canonically all the diffrent versions are alternate universes? I think making a crossover is easy at that point lol

      Reply
      • Oh it’s easy but when they did the last crossover for some reason they ignored the 2003 turtles :/ they just brought in the 84 turtles

  4. Looking at Twitter people are pretty split on the new TMNT look. I personally love it, tho I haven’t really watched TMNT ever so…
What I actually don’t take is Why people are against changing the characters (again). The original cartoon is very diffrent from the comics, why do you want the new stuff to precisely follow the source material?

  5. Do you think the Pokemon anime will ever the leave hand-drawn art style behind and transition to 3D animation? They’ve had 3D effects for battles and such for a while now, but I think it could be interesting if they tried it out. My favorite animated show of all time is The Clone Wars and the animation was gorgeous in the later seasons so I think it could work if they make it high quality.

And speaking of animation, what’s up with Steven Universe? Did they like totally kill the show basically? The episodes are so few and far between and get no hype. Reminds me of how Nickelodeon did Korra dirty. Such a shame.

    • I might just not watch the anime as much since anime and CG do not go well (There are exceptions). Also, Steven Universe has kinda gone to crap imo.Season 4 has some crappy episodes (Rocknaldo), and the same goes so far for Season 5. The show isn’t dead yet, as new episodes are slated for April, but it’s just not as good as the previous seasons imo. And about Korra, I liked it, although I may have to give it another watch considering the videos I’ve seen explaining the badness of it

      • Yeah I guess if it went 3D it would need to move away from anime style designs. Hm…idk if it would work now that I think about it

    • I find it funny how you say assume. For me, at least, I *want* some features to not come back. Idk where I am in terms of whether I think they will just disappear or not, I just don’t like some features.

    • Do you even know how Gamefreak works? They do this every gen. You’ve had 7 gens to get with it. What features actually came back across generations?
-Battle frontier (which was killed after gen 4)
-Contests (which was also killed after gen 4)
-Diving (If that even counts as a feature? And even then it was extremely limited in gen 5)
-Pokemon Safari (Though we haven’t seen it since gen 5 so it’s basically dead. The one in ORAS obviously doesn’t count as it was a remake)
      -Battle Tower and Factory (woooo…)
      -O-powers
      -Pokemon amie
-Ride pokemon (I guess you could say this started in gen 6)

Now let’s have a moment of silence for the stuff that hasn’t returned:
      -Soaring
      -Megas
      -PSS
      -Dexnav
      -Super training
      -Pokeathlon
      -Musicals
      -Friend safari
      -Pokemon world tournament
      -Dream World
      -Pokemon Star Studios
      -Easy/Challenge Mode
      -Pokewalker
      -Inverse/Sky/Horde Battles

      Expect these to not return:
      -Regionals
      -Pokefinder
      -Mantine Surf
      -Ultra Wormhole riding
      -Photo Club
      -Pokepelago
      -*New* Z moves

        • Yeah I mean I expect some gen 7 features to return. I would be surprised if Pokeride or something like it didn’t return. I just can’t see them bringing back HM’s.

SOS battles I could *maybe * see sticking around

      • Safari Zone actually has a reason it will never come back perfect. Because of the big game hunting in Africa and other exotic places. GF found this and gambling inappropriate so they were cut…

Also Musicals sorta are smaller versions of contests so I’d prob a Blue push those together, Amie was traded out for Refresh, Soaring is basically a ride Pokémon (You are on a Pokémon flying/riding around… it’s the same thing), also friend safari was a soft revive of the Safari Zone so…

        Reply
        • Musicals didn’t have any batting though so I don’t really consider them the same thing, but I see the argument. Yeah, refresh came out of amie, that’s why I listed them though there are a few differences. Soaring is technically a pokeride, but until we see something like it come back I’ll list it separate. Friend Safari of course is similar, but also much smaller and much more focused on shinies and hidden abilities where the Safari Zone is just mean for you to catch ’em all.

You bring up good points though

        • It and safari zone sadly have reason behind there departure

Game Corner is because Gambling is illegal in most places so it would need higher than E rating and I think it was because of hunting (Like how in Africa that have places designated to where you can go kill animals) and it wasn’t child friendly

Sorry for the long post I couldn’t find a way to shorten it

          Reply
          • There is no difference between Safari Zone and Friend Safari except you have to pay to go in and get special equipment to use it (which wasn’t even the case in gen 3). It’s not even that different to catching ‘mon anywhere. Since you actually can’t kill anything in the Safari Zone I’m not sure that point holds up.
Game Corner I know is because gambling has age restrictions and now they are forced to remove it. Except I believe it’s still in the VC versions and has done no harm and never did in the original releases anyway.

          • For the Safari Zone I could be 100% wrong I just thought I read that somewhere

For Game Corner I think they did in a few places up the age group (I remember hearing that in a video made by the AuraGuardian), but I think they didn’t want to change too much… or the fact they’d have to fix Porygon into the wild

          • It likely is why I was just saying it is contrived reasoning.

Gambling is restricted more in games now, it changes the ratings and I get that’s why they are gone, it just seems unnecessary as I said it wasn’t a gateway to real life gambling afaik.

        • They could replace it with items like alot of fan games do, though I prefer the ride system. The main thing I’d do is remove the ride music or let you choose to use the radio and maybe give a selection of ride ‘mon for each thing like Gastrodon Surf or Golurk Fly.

          • Literally anything is fine. Restricting my team to have an HM slave or fly mon is so fucking annoying. As someone who hates type doubling, imagine having bug flying types

          • Yeah I dislike having to rotate my team just to carry a HM ‘mon, I also dislike teaching HMs when there are usually better move options for my team.

      • You can add both Triple and Rotation Battles to the list of “hasn’t returned”.

Rotation weren’t my thing but Triple Battles were, in my opinion, pretty fun. I know they wouldn’t have run well on the 3DS hardware but even with the Switch game on the horizon I doubt they’ll bring it back. :/

  6. There’s a credible rumour that is saying Animal Crossing won’t hit this year and will be released somewhere first half of 2019.

Unacceptable! Selling my Switch in anger now!

    • Hmmm interesting. Well that’s a anther reason Pokemon kind of needs to happen this year.Nintendo wants to sell 20 mill more units. From what I’ve heard people don’t think Smash will come out this year either. So if neither a Smash game nor an AC game comes out there’s not anything else that could sell that many units other than Pokemon.

  7. I’ve read too many articles saying Ash may catch Poipole as his Final Pokemon. That is possibly true.. tho it would be idd seeing as he didn’t have a full team last season either technically.. :///
But they say it as if he would have 6 Pokes.. it would 5!!
One straight up said he has 5 already..
    Bish.. Where???
    Ugh.. lol just annoying

    Reply
    • I’m starting to think he’ll catch a Sandshrew. It’s the only other Pokemon I could see him catching. Also I think Poipole will be temporary if he actually catches it. I can’t see him bringing it home with him once all is said and done.

  9. Pokémon main series: *dead due to USUM’s complete lack of staying power*
Comp mons: *dying due to the absolutely shitty state the tapus caused for power creep*
Pokken: *dlc dropping, updates, random free cosmetics here and there*

Can you guess how I’m spending my time?

If you guessed fangames, my response is that I’ve played around 90% of the good ones
