FAKE: Generation VIII Starter Pokémon Revealed?!

THESE HAVE NOW BEEN DEBUNKED AS FAKE! The artist has been found. Now you can let us know if you’re RELIEVED or DISAPPOINTED by the news. We’re still leaving the post up in its original form for continued discussion.

A post, apparently made on a Chinese forum, included three photographs of what purport to be the starting Pokémon for the next game. As with all rumor posts we advise you not to treat these as real until officially confirmed.

We’re remaining very suspicious until there’s any other outside corroboration to their authenticity. Because of the situation with Gen VII’s leaked final evolutions some artists may just be wanting to get our hopes up early this time. We encourage users to treat these as FAKE until there’s any more evidence! The Japanese does not seem quite up to par.

If you’re interested though, here are the final typings that were mentioned alone with the photos:

  • Grass-line ultimately becomes Grass/Electric-type
  • Fire-line ultimately becomes Fire/Steel-type
  • Water-line remains pure Water-type

Hopefully we’ll learn the truth about these in the coming weeks!

  1. Why doesn’t Nintendo use situations like this as a platform to announce the next big Nintendo Direct? That would put so many people at ease – fans, investors – and they can just remind people later on instead of tweeting out ONE OR TWO DAYS beforehand making people obsess constantly over it. The Direct Mini made sense because of its whole “wow you didn’t see it coming!” gimmick, but now that the next big Direct is what we’re waiting for, that excuse is null and void. It really kind of makes me mad.

      • You fail to understand my sense of determination
        I can’t stop it’s all I know now… I’ve been doing god knows how many SRs probably hitting like 300 a day and I just can’t stop…

        I just want the stupid thing and give it to you for a Shiny wimpod and possibly clone it so I could have one myself as a trophy

        • not that its any of my business, but why would you give away such a shiny? i personally dont care for shinies but from what i read online, shiny celebi is only hunted legitimately in crystal vc. seems like a lot of effort for a shiny wimpod… a shiny that is a lot more easily obtained now with increased shiny rates from 1) shiny charm 2) masuda method

  11. I hope Whoever designed these makes a whole Pokedex, these are the best fakemon starters I’ve ever seen (except the horse one) (and I’ll be kinda annoyed by the Bear becoming Electric)

  13. I wanna change some of the names of my fakemon
    The Grass starter Leaffur I’ll change to Cubor (or Cubbor) (Cub + Bor (old Polish word for Forest)
    The Poison/Fairy two stager Macurie and Radolonium I’ll change to Polarie and Curadium (Polonium + Marie) (Curie + Cure + Radium)
    I think I’ll change Areoflight to Areawk (Areodynamics + Hawk)

  14. I have to agree to say that these are very well designed. But the thing that immediately jumps out to me is that these starters do not look that good toGETHer – all past generations have had some sort of cohesiveness with their starters. I know these are fake – just something that I realised

  22. Geographically speaking if the new region is going to be based off of Spain or Italy these starters would definitely work. I believe these have been confirmed as fake, but who knows what the starters will be. Tenatively Nintendo seems to think that the game will be ready with 2018. I still think it could be pushed back to early 2019 if things don’t go as smoothly with development. The earliest I could see the game release is November and the latest would be February.

    • I am still not buying the deviantart artist claiming they made them. Not saying they are real but this same thing happened with the Alola starter evos. That said if they aren’t real I am very curious what the real starters will be like. Personally I can see a fire rabbit

      • I now know that these are fake starters thanks to seeing the devianartist post on twitter. I still like the designs. I am not disappoint that they aren’t real, but stuff similar to them could still be very possible if the region is based off of Spain or Italy, since these things existed at some point of time in those countries. Cave bears could become a fossil if the rumor or the game being based off of one of those two countries. I think if the new game is coming out this year they should drop a trailer in the next two to three months. I like the idea of a fire rabbit. I really liked the coral fakemon, maybe they will eventually make another pokemon based off of coral. Corsola is one of my favorites pokemon so I approve of more coral pokemon. = )
