Pokémon Crystal Now Available on eShop

Pokémon Crystal, first released in English in 2001, is now available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop in some regions and will continue to roll out globally as January 26th arrives in different countries.

For the first time ever English speakers will be able to access the special GS Ball mini-event which ends with the player encountering a level 30 Celebi in Ilex Forest. Whether or not you’re motivated by Celebi or pure nostalgia, the game retails for $9.99. Don’t forget that this landmark game was the first to introduce players to a choice of gender when starting the game, animated sprites when entering a battle and was the first game to add the challenging Battle Tower gauntlet.

We have some QUESTIONS for our readers who are planning to play which you can answer in the comments below:

  • What Pokémon are you thinking of using?
  • Do you think your play-through will differ from when you originally played the game?
  • What is your favorite animated Pokémon sprite in Crystal?

Good luck trainers!

  1. Well today was okish
Got my shiny Roggenrola and got Crystal with both Phanpy and Teddiursa and the last hardest Pokémon to get is Heracross but tomorrow will be that day

Also is there any possible way to change the clocks? Otherwise mine’s gonna be pulling a moon and have it nighttime during the day and daylight at night

  2. Question for y’all: what did you think of all the new Pokemon introduced in USUM (including the new Lycan and Necrozma forms)? What was your favorite Pokemon and least favorite?

  3. Playing through what is pretty much updated gen 5 games I must say I forgot how awesome the characters were in this generation. In particular Alder. Sure he isn’t the strongest champion but I must say I really like the character. Not to mention his encounter theme is great! https://youtu.be/_KE1iXYzRmw

      • Going to be honest I have never used Volcarona. It’s an awesome looking Pokémon but the late evolution level kept me from using it. That said I plan to use it in blaze black 2! That said character wise alder is definitely one of my favorites from gen 5! N is there too obviously. Honestly gen 5 overall had good characters

        • I used it in White 2 and it was so fun. It swept Ghetsis for me, I didn’t even have to use other mons. I want to say I also had it sweep Iris, but I’m not 100% about that.

    • > Crit/Poison Sludge Bomb hax
      > Your foe using Defog on Nidoking when a strategic switch or a possible fourth damaging move should’ve been used
      > Poison on Sludge Bomb again, putting a timer on their set-up sweeper
      > Your opponent trying to set up with Bulu in front of a Pokemon that commonly carries Toxic and/or Whirlwind
      > Your opponent using Diamond Storm on a Hippowdon when literally anything else it could’ve done would’ve done more (they’d already lost at this point tho lol)
      > For that matter, your foe not having any Mega
      > They ran a dual screen team… Full of slow, frail Mons with a ton of common weakness and absolutely no obvious protection from Steels after Azumarill dies. None of the bulky fairies that could’ve laughed at the rest of your team and let Azumarill screw up Excadrill when that came out and no sign of a cleric of any sort

    Slavian Kricketot
    Bug/Fairy
They were bred by musicians to inspire them with their smooth music. They are rare in the wild.

    Evolves with Shiny Stone into

    Slavian Kricketune
    Bug/Fairy
They’re so good at playing music, they can tell fairy tales through melodies. They often create stories of their own.

  8. Gen 8 is one version, and a total reboot mechanics wise with a great story and side plots, and an amazing world

    Buuut

Only the first 251 Pokemon and their relatives are included (the rest would be added back in a remake or a post release update), no new mons.

    Would you buy it?
