Pokémon Crystal Now Available on eShop

Pokémon Crystal, first released in English in 2001, is now available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop in some regions and will continue to roll out globally as January 26th arrives in different countries.

For the first time ever English speakers will be able to access the special GS Ball mini-event which ends with the player encountering a level 30 Celebi in Ilex Forest. Whether or not you’re motivated by Celebi or pure nostalgia, the game retails for $9.99. Don’t forget that this landmark game was the first to introduce players to a choice of gender when starting the game, animated sprites when entering a battle and was the first game to add the challenging Battle Tower gauntlet.

We have some QUESTIONS for our readers who are planning to play which you can answer in the comments below:

  • What Pokémon are you thinking of using?
  • Do you think your play-through will differ from when you originally played the game?
  • What is your favorite animated Pokémon sprite in Crystal?

Good luck trainers!

  2. So let’s actually talk about Pokemon for once! I know it’s sort of been graveyard season here for the past few months at least, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Who actually believes we’ll get Gen 8 on Switch in 2018? Early 2019? If not, what spinoff do you think we’ll get besides Detective Pikachu?

  3. Alright I have 2 options as I have passed through Victory Road

Challenge the League with my team of all lvl.47’s and two 45’s (Pawniard and Seismitoad)

Or Go back and train till we are lvl.49 and then challenge the League

  4. Another game thing

Post a character, and the poster has to guess their personality and whether they’re a hero, a villain, or in-between. Whoever gets the closest to the truth wins for your character.

If you know about the character, refrain from ruining the game commenting about them

  6. well i cracked down and bought Crystal, and thanks to my cache of christmas eShop cards it only cost me 85 cents
but there’s a big big BIG problem

Phanpy are only found in the morning and if you think i can play a johto game without a Phanpy by my side you are sorely mistaken

now do i enter the correct time and merely wait until 6AM (the time i get up no matter what) and find a Phanpy……

  8. I really do think that we may see a full Nintendo Direct towards the end of next week, or at the very latest the following week. This spot has been open since the Direct Mini happened on the 11th…that’s almost 16 days now…and an open spot has always indicated that a Direct is due sometime soon. I just hope it’s not a Fire Emblem Direct or something like that, I think that would be a hotly contested choice.

    • I agree that a direct is coming soon. If there wasn’t I don’t see why they’d have taken down a second direct after the mini one went up. I do think FE is the most likely tho…….It kind of needs one and the only other franchise that could get one is Pokemon, but I don’t see them doing a direct for Pokemon until Zeraora gets revealed. Even then they won’t do one the same month Zeraora gets revealed so that’d push a possible direct even further back. Again I think FE is the most likely candidate. If not that then a general one.

    • i absolutely despise the battery life on the Switch (then again you are all very familiar with my battery issues with anything these days)

i’m horrifically afraid to let anything drop a single percent of battery these days and quite honestly i don’t like playing Handheld mode switch, i’m too afraid my big fat bearilla mits will break the railing of the joycons

      • Well the Switch usually lasts as long as my play sessions anyways but I was kinda unsure what I wanted to play until I realized I never started Oxenfree so I had already spent some time on Sonic Mania and Splatoon

  10. Bought Dragon Ball FighterZ. So far so great. Having a good time. I’ve played a little story (it’s kind of weird) and did something in the arcade mode. My in lobby avatar is Bulma because she’s great.
