  1. Fehbbbhhbbhhhhhhhhhhh the only worthwhile thing is Crystal right now, which I am burning out on due to the crappy leveling process

But I did get my favorites moderately quickly

  4. Shiny Elekid finally evolved into Electabuzz! That thing has been wrecking shop in the story, and now it’s the same level as Bayleef. It swept the entire Ectruteak Gym with just Thunderpunch. I think I got very, very lucky this play through…and now that I think about it, this is the first shiny I ever found in a pre-Gen 4 game!

  5. Crystal is honestly SO much fun. Once you hit your stride like I have, it feels like you could play all day. There’s something about the presentation and gameplay which just feels better than the more recent games. I think Game Freak’s greatest task for Gen 8 and beyond will be the emulation of this feeling, instead of the complicated path we’re currently taking. Maybe I’m just turning into a Gen Two’er, which I’m completely fine with. I’m pretty sure this is my favorite music, but it changes daily: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlVvs9LQ5zw

    • I love Crystal so much. Shame though seeing my favorite Pokemon (Minccino) isn’t in the game, but I’ll still make a team worthy of it. I was surprised Egg moves were introduced in Crystal, while I always assumed it was introduced in GS. Guess this game inovated a lot we use today.

  6. After some consideration, I think I am going to get the Switch in March. As for the games that I will get to go along with it.

    -Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
    -BOTW
    -Pokken Tournament Deluxe

As a Pokémon fan, I think I’ll enjoy playing the sole game of the franchise that is on the Switch as of now. BOTW is an obvious choice due to how great the game is. However, I am not getting Odyssey because I am about to embark on my first year at Medical School and that is going to be a huge time sink. As for Mario Kart 8, it is easy multiplayer game to play with friends, and a game that I can play with my sister if I go to the Medical School where she attends undergrad for. Thanks everyone who gave suggestions earlier. Also if you have any more please let me know.

  7. Currently taking a break from Crystal but I’ll be right back at it soon. I’m about to reach Lake of Rage to catch shiny Gyarados but I’m trying to plan out my League team. This is what I have:
    Meganium
    Electabuzz (shiny)
    Togetic
    Pineco (will evolve into Forretress)
    ??? (Water type, currently Azumarill)
??? (I may save this slot for Tyranitar but may go with Piloswine for now).

Any advice? Should I switch out Azumarill for Kingler, Quagsire, Shellder, etc?

    Reply
    • Might switch Azumarill for something with more coverage, it is pure Water and hasn’t got Huge Power so needless to say it has gotten far better over time. Depends how much you want to use it though.

      Reply
      • I wanted to use Cloyster since it’s Water/Ice but then I learned that I can’t get a Water Stone until Kanto, which is fun. What I might do is just train up my Shellder as if it’s a Cloyster and evolve when the time comes.

        Reply
    • This is going to sound like an extremely surprising choice, but… Tentacruel is such a good water Pokémon to have in Johto. Having access to Swords Dance and Barrier, while also having an average Attack & solid special attack really helps it out. And it’s such a great Sp Def tank, which should be great for you because you have a tanky team, and having another speedy mon with that Sp Def & mixed offenses would be great synergy imo.

  9. Similarly to what Earthen said about Zubat and Golbat not being able to fly in Gen 2, what Pokémon do you think should’ve had a specific HM at the time it was introduced?

For example, I don’t understand why Charizard didn’t immediately get Fly in RB. It didn’t have any other flying type moves to support its second typing, and I feel like they really missed out on giving it fly. Also the fact that it has massive wings on its back that should’ve been more than enough to carry people didn’t convince GF to give it Fly right away.

  10. on the subject of pokemon moves, is there any moves you wish you enjoy using but aren’t necessarily powerful or even decent?

Example I like using Horn Attack on Heracross apposed to upgrading it to Strength out of the fantasy of Heracross stabbing with the horn (or thrusting under the opponents and flinging them)

And another ks Metal Claw over Iron Head on Excadrill and Drill Run over Earthquake

  11. So I’m SRing for Musharna. Musharna’s shiny is soooooooooooo much better than Munna’s. By millions of miles. Hopefully it doesn’t take too long, but since I don’t have a national dex filled in this Black version I don’t have the shiny charm. So it’ll likely take forever. Maybe I’ll have the same luck I had when I found my shiny H0-oh in HG.

  12. How would you rate each Pokemon generation on a scale of 1 to 10? I’m rating them with their debut games, third versions, sequels, and remakes in mind for each of their reviews.

    Generation One – 8/10
    Generation Two – 7/10
    Generation Three – 8/10
    Generation Four – 9/10
    Generation Five – 8/10
    Generation Six – 7/10
    Generation Seven – 6/10

    Reply
    • So I’m not gonna rate Gen 1 because it’s the basis and it’s hard to rank something 6 gens later. I’ll start with 2.

Gen 2: 6/10 -Fun with good improvements, but the new additions to the dex were very poor and so was the distribution. Not to mention the awful level curve. Story is meh.

Gen 3: 8/10 -Very good upgrade. The graphics, abilities, weather, and colorful region are all great. The main gripe is that the story is a bit silly when you break it down. But at least a fun silly unlike Gen 2

Gen 4: 9.5/10 -Ahhhh such a good generation. Platinum and HG/SS are near perfect games to me, the only reason I’m not giving these perfect scores is because of D/P, which were flawed. Luckily Platinum fixes pretty much every problem and is still one of the best in the series.

Gen 5: 10/10 -Perfection. I seriously have next to zero complaints about both B/W and B2W2. Some people say B2W2’s story doesn’t hold up compared to B/W, and I would agree it’s not as good, but it’s still so much fun to play.

Gen 6: 5/10 -Ooof…other than graphical updates and megas, what did X&Y even get right? I will say I enjoyed ORAS a lot and I really like them, but Gamefreak didn’t go the whole mile with them. Sorry, but no Battle Frontier is such a huge fumble on their part.

Gen 7: 6/10 -Idk. On one hand I like S/M. The story is decent and the cities are cool. But the cutscenes and story needed some work and USUM didn’t really fix that, like at all. It instead opted to add features we didn’t need. I also find Alola to be pretty bland outside of the cities. But at least the music is generally pretty nice.

  13. I… did it… I beat Ghetsis (took a quick break and purposefully lost to readd Echo to the bunch for the true battle)

I have declared victory and now shall attempt within the next few days to start White 2 (I’ll come out a bit later and give my final team)

  14. So as I continue my journey through the Pokemon anime from start to finish I think I’ve come to the conclusion that Ash, Brock, and Misty are either all dimwitted, have some sort of brain damage, or have severe face blindness. I’m not very far into Johto and there have been multiple episodes throughout the series thus far where TR come to them in “disguises” and they don’t even give them a second look. Most of the “disguises” don’t even change their faces. They basically just wear glasses and the 3 dumb dumbs can’t recognize them.

  17. Electabuzz is SO broken in Gen 2. If only I had known that sooner. Thunder Punch, Ice Punch and Fire Punch basically cover half of the types or so in terms of coverage. It’s insane. Reminds me a lot of Emboar’s Scald in Gen 5 (which was definitely a mistake). Giving a Fire-type starter a Water-type move is ridiculous in concept. I’m rambling now…but I just beat Clair with an Electabuzz sweep, which proves my point!

      • It’s good character growth for both Charizard and Ash in hindsight actually. Now knowing how they reunite and ultimately don’t permanently split I’m glad they did it. I’m sure they didn’t plan this far ahead, but I think it was for the best. the BW anime was trash, but it was around the time Charizard came back it leveled out a tiny bit. The ep he comes back in is actually a really nice one.
