Pokémon Crystal Now Available on eShop

Pokémon Crystal, first released in English in 2001, is now available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop in some regions and will continue to roll out globally as January 26th arrives in different countries.

For the first time ever English speakers will be able to access the special GS Ball mini-event which ends with the player encountering a level 30 Celebi in Ilex Forest. Whether or not you’re motivated by Celebi or pure nostalgia, the game retails for $9.99. Don’t forget that this landmark game was the first to introduce players to a choice of gender when starting the game, animated sprites when entering a battle and was the first game to add the challenging Battle Tower gauntlet.

We have some QUESTIONS for our readers who are planning to play which you can answer in the comments below:

  • What Pokémon are you thinking of using?
  • Do you think your play-through will differ from when you originally played the game?
  • What is your favorite animated Pokémon sprite in Crystal?

Good luck trainers!

  1. Lowkey want to buy this Crystal, but I also own a physical copy??? Also want to shiny hunt that celebi, but not sure if my self worth is that low??? Also not sure why I’m using so many question marks, but it’s very satisfying???

I still don’t see why they don’t put these on the Switch as well.

  2. I forgot to mention I beat Drayden and it was semi hard

Echo (Beheeyem) destroyed Fraxure in one Shadow Ball
Frosty (Vanillish) went rounds with Druddigon till it won
Bubbles (Seismitoad) lost to Haxorus after getting swept by Dragon Dance x3 + Dragon Tail
Sir Kibble (Pawniard) took aim and got lucky it used dragon dance again and knocked out Haxorus with X-Scissor

Now onto VR and soon the E4

  3. Don’t know if anyone here plays Monster Hunter, but IT’S TIME TO GET HYPED!! World’s getting fantastic reviews across the board, I just can’t wait to get my hands dirty with some of the monsters. For those of you who haven’t played it, the action can get pretty thrilling and intense, plus it has some great RPG elements to it. Combine that with fantastic replay-ability with weapons, and that’s a great recipe. Here’s some music to get you in the mood, though it’s a step back from the adrenaline pumping style game play.

Just another day, I can hold out, right?

  4. Alright! Both N and Ghetsis defeated. N wasn’t crazy anything honestly. He wasn’t easy, but he wasn’t too hard either. Ghetsis on the other hand was actually much easier than I though he’d be. My Scrafty put a pretty big hole in his team and then the others went down without to much extra trouble. His hardest Pokemon was naturally Hydreigon, but he uses it not long into the battle. So once you beat it he’s not that bad. Was afraid that his Seismitoad and Eelektross would give me trouble, but neither of them were too bad. I think I got lucky with them tho.

  6. I think the reason I like BW so much is that the end of the game isn’t the usual ending you’d get in many of the other games. In almost all other games the main story ends with you beating the league officially and the bad guys have already been taken care of. In BW the end of the main story is just that, the end of the main story. You can go back and officially become champion on your own time. I like how the end of the story is the end of the actual game rather than you basically finishing up the entirety of the the plot only to have a space of nothingness in the run up to the league. I really hope that the next game does something similar to this. SM made the beat the bad guys before the league formula a little better as the actual creation of the league was part of the story, but even still……I also love how they intentionally left BW open ended. I know they intended BW2 to be a reg 3rd version at first, but the way they ended BW made it clear they had another plot ready in their minds. Seeing N flying off with his legendary dragon as a cliff hanger of his return later is very cool.

  7. Tbh Crystal f*cked up the pokedex. Removed Mareep (why remove one of the only new electric types?) Remoraid and Girafarig. Moved Magmar to post game, so if you don’t choose Cyndaquil (and why would you considering Totodile is there) you’re left with choosing between Growlithe, Flareon, and Ponyta (who you can only get after the 8th gym). That’s some Diamond and Pearl levels of bullsh*ttery. And they didn’t even fix the fact that a bunch of new pokemon still aren’t available pre-E4.

Yeah, the game is twice as long as normal, but it’s still a shame. And I do love Crystal, but it kinda falls short. Doesn’t fix glaring problems whereas Platinum at least did, which is why I still say it’s the best third version. It was like the only one that actually took criticisms of the first game and did something about them.

    • Wait there’s no Mareep, damn I was gonna use that. I think you have a chance of getting Magby at daycare as an egg. Struggling to make a team beyond Aipom and Heracross rn :/ Likely will use Typhlosion and Johnny Quags. Alot I might want to use is late game, I guess I could use some temporaries to prevent overleveling but idk.

  9. Decidueye’s ability to fire its feathers like arrows is essentially like plucking off your arm hair, using your underarm hair to knock it, and firing it off at high speeds with precise aim at a target all in a matter with of seconds without causing yourself pain

    Imo that’s actually really cool

Additionally, mega doom seems to have permanently dropped to said tier.

  13. So I am definitely going to get a Nintendo Switch in the coming months, but I don’t know what game to get. I have rarely played games aside from Pokémon. Also, as it is now certain what I am doing for the next four years of my life, I won’t have as much time to play video games. Thus I pose these questions on the Pokejungle community. With the knowledge of what I have said, what should I get as my first game(s) and/or is there a good Nintendo Switch Bundle that would fit me?

    • Zelda and Mario are must buys so there are two staight off the bat.

The Switch’s indie support is insane so don’t miss out on any. Stardew Valley especially. Hollowknight is also on its way so when that comes out check it out.

Splatoon 2 is insanely fun and is pretty accessible, you just gotta push through learning the controls. The motion controls may seem weird but if you get the hang of them you’ll be fine.

Mario Kart 8 is always fun if you have friends over a lot

Those are just some recommendations off the top of my head

      • Thanks for your suggestions. My concern about Stardew Valley is that the game might be a time sink. My roommate has it right now and that is also his opinion. Zelda and Mario are obvious, unfortunately I have never attempted to familiarize myself with those two series at this point, and I am also concerned about them being time sinks. Of those two I am leaning towards Breath of the Wild But it would be my first Zelda game so I am worried that I might be missing out on some stuff.

        • I wouldn’t consider Stardew Valley a time sink really. My switch save file isn’t that far in because I kinda just pick it up whenever. Now my PC save file is on year 3 so…

        • Also don’t worry about missing out by having BOTW be your first.

It is certainly a departure for the rest of the series but it’s not like there is lore to keep up with.

Zelda and Mario alone could keep you busy for months so I’d say you are pretty much set with those two for quite a while.

          Reply
          • The only lore you really need to know is that the 3 mains (Link, Zelda, and Ganon) are reincarnated every so often..I mean they cut the triforce out of the plot so that’s not even important to BotW.

          • Sorry, what I meant was maybe Butter Geek is looking for an emotional connection in his life and that could be it. I may have poorly worded the question.

          • Eh, no shame in it, deer. Was just surprised is all. You gotta remember, we’re like a family here, we all have moments where we listen to each other’s problems, or get lost and fight over them, but we stick together to help our fellow PokeJungle family~

          • I meant has Butter Geek ever felt safe enough around someone to open their heart up to someone. Life can be an isolating experience and with the daily pressures in life compounded with that, it could be affecting his perspective in life. (Not that it is a bad thing).

          • I meant the latter, emotional intimacy. Nothing wrong with that. The point I was getting to was what I explained to Deerlia in my clarificaton if my ambiguous question. I am of the same sentiments as many people here, you should look this stuff up on your own, try to find an answer that you are most satisfied with, and go with that. As of now, it may be in your interests to get to know the people who caught your eye on a friendly basis. Social interactions could be revealing in describing the quandary you are experiencing. This would call for some courage of course and you might be hurt by this as well. Regardless, just do whatever you feel most comfortable with.

    • Well you could be something else too. I am pretty sure there are now a plethora of sexualities out there as well, so a little research on the internet wouldn’t hurt.

      Reply
    • If you have to question it then probably. But something I’ve noticed with people who aren’t sure is it might be a matter of if you’re open to letting yourself like the same gender. That can be mistaken as confusion when really you’re just not accepting something about yourself

      Reply
    • Huh, I never knew our local Butter was Bi or interested in it, interesting.
Exploring this avenue can be a very strange and unusual experience, deer..,
You gotta ask a lot of questions and do your homework on it, otherwise you could be dead wrong and uneasy about it. If you need advice, ask someone who knows they are Bi how they figured it out, when you feel more confident in yourself, the answer becomes crystal clear, deer~

    • I did a little internet sleuthing, and i found something that caught my attention while searching about bi curiousity.
      https://www.helpguide.org/articles/bipolar-disorder/bipolar-disorder-signs-and-symptoms.htm
Do you think it’s possible you may have this diagnosis, maybe the symptoms play into your psyche here, it literally came up with the bi curiosity question near the end of the first result page, most other results are questionnaires or quizzes from unrepeatable sources.
I am not trying to startle you deer, I just am worried about you.

    • You’ll figure it out. It’s not something you can rush or figure out in a day. When it’s right it’s right. You’ll know it when you know it. I know that’s kind of a lame answer, but only your heart can tell you what you want. Trying to force anything out of it will only confuse you more. If one day you find yourself into a guy then you’ll know your answer. In the end either path is good. Just gotta do what feels right.

    • It doesn’t matter. Honestly. It’s not like being trans where you’re going to get dysphoria or something. I’ve found that the less I cared about my sexuality, the less it can hurt me in any way.

I know Poland isn’t exactly the most accepting country, but you’re still in the 21st century. You don’t have to be distraught or anything beyond the initial confusion.

  15. One thing is kinda bothering me about the upcoming Titans show
Everything Looks like Raven and Beast Boy will become a couple in the show
And that’s great, they’re a good couple in the comics
Buuuuut there’s a problem, that probably won’t be noticable in the show itself, but is there
The girl playing Raven is around 9 years younger than the guy playing Beast Boy.
I think about this too much, it’s so Weird
