Pokémon Crystal Now Available on eShop

Pokémon Crystal, first released in English in 2001, is now available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop in some regions and will continue to roll out globally as January 26th arrives in different countries.

For the first time ever English speakers will be able to access the special GS Ball mini-event which ends with the player encountering a level 30 Celebi in Ilex Forest. Whether or not you’re motivated by Celebi or pure nostalgia, the game retails for $9.99. Don’t forget that this landmark game was the first to introduce players to a choice of gender when starting the game, animated sprites when entering a battle and was the first game to add the challenging Battle Tower gauntlet.

We have some QUESTIONS for our readers who are planning to play which you can answer in the comments below:

  • What Pokémon are you thinking of using?
  • Do you think your play-through will differ from when you originally played the game?
  • What is your favorite animated Pokémon sprite in Crystal?

Good luck trainers!

  1. Alright real dream just the other night

It was a gigantic montage of all my typical bad luck and stress makers

    Something trashed my room
    Broke my figures
    Touched my laptop and computer
    Food falling on the carpet
    Losing things
And it was making me angry upset and frustrated inside my head it was just insufferable

  2. Ok I’m going stupid again

I just got scared that my level 42 Pawniard was up against a level 34 Vullaby because I for a moment thought Pawniard was Fighting type :/

My brain is slowly decaying in this Black Playthrough

  3. I forgot what Guzzlords name was for a while today…..I spent a few minutes looking at a picture of it and thinking.”What the hell is this guys name?” I knew it had something to do with gluttony, but for some reason I just couldn’t spit it out. It finally came to me and I didn’t even need to look it up. I felt like a real dumb dumb haha

  4. Fun fact: it’s unintentional but bug types are the most common type in my region. You all will know why soon enough

  5. I just found out something. Anyone else know the statue in Eterna city is a fusion of both Dialga and Palkia? I never realized that. I don’t care for DP, but when the remake comes if they don’t do something with that idk what they’re thinking.

  6. I’ve recently been practicing cloning on a ROM. Trickier than GS and the chance for a glitch Pokémon (which you can just release with no issue) but I haven’t experienced anything Save Corrupting yet.
I want to use this glitch to abuse the Odd Egg.
I’m also excited to shiny hunt Celebi.
    How about everyone else?

    • The Drampa one of course,

Golisopod: The shell covering its body is as hard as diamond. This Pokémon will do anything it takes to win.

Mega Garchomp: Its arms and wings melted into something like scythes. Mad with rage, it rampages on and on.

  7. My team is gonna get wrecked by Ghetsis. Maybe even by N. They’re all at lvl 50 or 48. the E4 wasn’t too bad, but it was certainly not a breeze. We shall see what happens. As a side note did any of you know there are grunts that’ll transport you to and from the castle and Pokemon center at the league? I never knew that. I was confused, but it was a cool thing. Lets you go back and buy more items if you need

  8. Getting really sick and f*cking tired of Microsoft word telling me to renew my subscription (Said I have it for a year after I got the trial which was less than a month ago) or it will disable all my usage on it

    • You could do some really cool stuff with fighting (use its tongue more than maybe greninja actually does). Ghost could get some interesting design/ lore going. And electric could have some really cool design elements like a plug on the end of its tongue.

      • I love all these ideas!

I think I should spill though why I ask. I’m rebooting my Fakemon Region and I’ve chosen a Chameleon starter for Grass so the only one I’m a tad weary on is Ghost because of Deci.

I totally love the idea of it absorbs sunlight and then turning it in to electricity so thank you :3

        • Lol wouldn’t that be awesome??? Electric chameleon would be soo cool. Honestly, having it be a normal type pokemon you get later on that can branch into multiple evolutions with secondary typings would be really cool too, though as a starter it has a lot of potential.

Also, you could do great things with psychic and hypnosis inspiration since their eyes are soo wacky (I see a black and white spiral in its eyes when I picture this).

Fairy type could take it places, as could a dragon type (though that seems pretty typical considering its looks).

  9. LOVE watching Reshiram and Zekrom appearing in BW. I remember when they were first revealed and I wasn’t sure what to make of them. Now I think they’re totally badass. I think I may like Zekrom more than Reshiram, but both are super cool mons
