Kanto or Sinnoh: Which Will See Switch Remake?

Many fans are eager for a return to Sinnoh—a region left unexplored since Pokémon Platinum was released in 2008 for the Nintendo DS—but it isn’t necessarily the only title which may see a remake in Generation VIII or beyond. Pokémon Red & Blue/Green never got a true remake on the Nintendo DS or 3DS, although Kanto was seen in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Solid information is nil on the Nintendo Switch Pokémon game, but interestingly enough rumors about Kanto and Sinnoh being remade keep popping up.

Kanto

FOR: Haven’t seen Sevii Islands in almost 15 years, no true remake in just as long, more mature Red & Blue (JP Green) teased in Gen VII

AGAINST: Already saw Kanto in the Nintendo DS in 2009, Red & Blue have already gotten a remake, fans may be tired of the original story

Sinnoh

FOR: Original Diamond & Pearl games came out over 10 years ago, fan interest in seeing Gen IV again is very high

AGAINST: Game Freak may be waiting to release their next remake considering Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire only came out 3 years ago

What do you think?

  1. So, to get some convo started, does anyone have any ongoing projects? Games, fangames, writing, etc? How are they going along?

I’m not just procrastinating schoolwork lol

  3. How to fix the Gen VII starters from a design standpoint

    > Decidueye
Anything to make it look more spiritual/ghostly/deadly. Type should be observable from design, but it doesn’t need to be blatant.

    > Incineroar
Make it a four legged beast like Torracat and its stats hint at. Rather than a tiger, make it a panther or something. Take the current Incineroar, change it a bit, and make it a Fighting/Dark evo for a scrappy street cat Pokemon. Strays are infamous for fighting and there’s the phrase ‘catfight’.

    > Primarina
    You can’t fix perfection <3

    • I can understand why you want it to be four-legged (the change from Torracat to Inci is abrupt like atleast with Delphox it had a bipedal prevo) but why do you want it to be panther though?

    • Rowlet > Dartrix > Deci
Number of tail feathers goes from one to three, slowly
      Leaf fringe becomes leaf hood
Quills become darts, darts become arrows – development of its gimmick
Becomes less round and more defined in shape

      Popplio > Brionne > Prima
Becomes feminine, before going super feminine – traits introduced before final evo
Colour is lighting, white traces at flippers and nose – hints at colour changes
Ruffle dress, reffering to the ruffles on Primarina
Development of its performance theme, from acrobatics to dancing

      Litten > Torract > Inci
      Stand up suddenly
      Goes from lithe to swole
      Slows down considerably
Fire bell changes into something completely different… Why?

      I rest my case

        • Yes. I’m sure the Japanese developers cared about a one letter difference between words when these two things differ greatly in purpose and aesthetics.

          Reply
        • Beru = Japanese for bell
          Beruto = Japanese for belt

Holy shite that actually makes sense, beruto feels like an evolved word for beru

          Reply
          • It’s because in both cases it’s a loan word from English. Don’t quote me on it because I don’t actually know or care enough about Japanese culture to know but they have different words for different bells whilst they belts as we know them were introduced to them from foreigners and they’d have different words for their own specific types of belt.

    • I get people’s issue with incineroar but personally I still love it. I am probably biased sicne I am a huge wrestling fan lol that said people shouldn’t get their hopes up with the next fire starter if it starts out on four legs. I did it with tepig and fennekin hoping they would both stay quadrupedal but they both ended up going bipedal. Would I have loved if litten evolved into a fire saber toothed tiger? Absolutely but I refused to get my hopes up again like I did in the past

      Reply
      • Don’t get me wrong I like Incineroar. But it’s a disappointment as a Litten evo because if it was the last member of its line we saw as GameFreak intended, nobody would’ve expected that to come from Torracat.

        Reply
        • Oh I get it trust me. As I said thigh next time we get a quadruped fire starter people need to not get their hopes up. This has happened the past three gens and you would think people would have learned by now.

          Reply
          • Agreed lol, at this point I don’t think GF will make a quadrupedal fire starter until people quiet down about bipedals

          • The main question is what will the next fire starter be based on. So far all the fire starters have been at least loosely based on the Chinese zodiac so if that continues we would either get a snake, rabbit, ox, goat or horse

          • Just had a thought. Imagine the rage if we were to get a snake fire starter that pulled a reverse snivy.

      • Zootopia was great.

But no, really. First there’s the fact that they’re doing the thing with names of companies spelled diffrently so they don’t have to ask the real companies, when a big part of the 1st movie was that you saw real video game characters. Then there’s the “Wreck it Ralph Breaks the Internet” which is just so bad. If the sense humour of the original will be replaced with jokes like this, the movie will be ruined. Then there’s the fact that it’s internet related might mean the movie will try to be “trendy” like the Emoji Movie (tho I doubt it’ll be that bad). All the promotion rn has a bad vibe.

        • That’s kinda fair but I believe that the writers are better than that. They made one of the best animation movies of the decade so I’m pretty sure they can atleast make a good movie. But yeah, internet references in media almost always fall flat unfortunately.

And Zootopia is just good/ok fite me

        • They are? I haven’t noticed. Even the relatively bad Disney movies tend to do well in terms of making money. Might have to do with Dinsey being good with budgets, but alot of what they release is mostly average, and people can’t stop talking about it. I feel I’m missing something…

    • Hmmmmm well it’s okish i mean you’re just working with Bubblebeam and Mud Shot and Uproar for a while, until you replace with Surf/Scald and if you decide for Bulldoze. and finally the remainder with Sludge Bomb/Wave

  6. Rate these common fan types from least stupid to most stupid

    Cyber/Digital
    Radioactive/Nuclear
    Air/Gas
    Magic
    Cosmic
Light (as in the phenomenon of light)
Light/Holy (as in ‘divine good’ or ‘divine light’, like Dark is ‘Evil’ in Japan)
    Sound

    Reply
      • Poison
        Normal
        Steel/Electric and Porygons

Light is covered by moves in other types and largely by Electric
        Psychic/Fairy
Fairy/really anything could be considered Magic in Pokemon
        Flying

I left a gap because Holy is maybe not covered but that’s largely because it strays close to real religion I think.

        Reply
        • Radioactive is not really poison, poison types are usually based around pollutants, and cyber or digital is a concept that is only explored in Porygon, steel and electric are just the elements more than anything.

I can see the rest tho

          Reply
          • Hm, I feel like Poison and Radiation might have similar effects, though I do agree that as there are many types of radiation perhaps it is not entirely able to be covered by Poison. In fact it may not have been covered at all because it is considered ‘too adult’ conceptually. When I think Cyber I think of Robots which are made up usually of Metal and Electricity which is why I said those. I suppose Digital could be explored, the question is how?

    • Least stupid

      1) Cosmic – It’s practically in the game already as a facet of Psychic. If we’re getting a new type, I think this’d be it. They split up Water and Ice, as well as Rock and Ground. So I don’t see why Cosmic (which isn’t inherently linked to Psychic powers irl) can’t be separated. I doubt it’ll happen but it’s the most likely of the lot. It could also easily be manipulated type chart wise to solve a lot of problems.

      2) Air – Hear me out. It’s probably one of the least likely, but it’s one of the least stupid. Flying is kind of an odd name because something can fly without manipulating air and vice versa. If Flying was made into a physical characteristic of a Pokemon rather than a type, its moves would be split between Normal and Air. However, because of how simple the mechanics are in Pokemon, it’s not happening. But it’d be the case in a more complex RPG. But it’s not happening in real Pokemon.

      3) Radioactive – It’s in the same boat as Air. It would work in an RPG sense but it’d be too complex for Pokemon. Its type relations would be odd as heck and it’s possibly even controversial considering the series is Japanese. But it could lead to some interesting designs like cool mutants and odd radioactive monsters. Hell, even a banana would be a cool Radioactive type lol. Radioactivity is also a niche that Pokemon hasn’t touched at all.

      The kinda stupid

      4) ‘Holy’ Light – It’s not that it’s the worst thing ever. It’s just that the divine angle has been compromised because ‘God’ is Normal types and all the other ‘gods’ fit their current types. And as a foil to Dark in a battle of Good vs Evil, Fighting takes that role. It’d work if it came at the start of the franchise when things were being sorted out, but it doesn’t fit into Pokemon as it is now.

      5) Cyber/Digital – I just fail to see how it could have any meaningful type relations besides Steel, Electric, and Psychic. The designs would eventually become super limiting over time if they want to make it obvious each of these Pokemon are ‘Digital/Cyber’ in a way, and overall it just seems like a niche type that wouldn’t work. It’s spared from being in the dumbest category because it’s not as cliched and it actually hasn’t been covered at all besides Porygon, which is Normal due to it being ‘typeless’ and we’ve seen Normal types been retyped before.

      The really stupid

      6) Magic. It’d be kinda stupid before Gen 6, but now Fairy-types are here it’s went out the window completely. Fairies = ‘Magic’, Ghosts = ‘Black Magic’, Psychic = ‘Stage Magic’ & stuff like Visions. It’s too hard removing stuff from three types just to justify a new type which probably wouldn’t fit well into the type table.

      7) Light and Sound. No. They’re so split between all 18 types that they are never, ever happening unless we get a total rehaul of the franchise. So many Pokemon have light or sound worked into their designs but are already dual typed, and they’re both just so cliched and don’t fit in with the other types from a ‘vibe’ perspective. And we’re not getting a Light type because we don’t have an actual ‘Darkness’ type. The closest we have is Ghost but that’s because Ghosts and shadows go hand in hand, and even then we’ve seen aspects of Darkness leak over into the Dark type. These two are never happening ever. People need to get over it. And if I’m proven wrong I’ll be salty but standby my opinion that they’re dumb.

  7. If all non legendary/mythical pokemon from Gen 1 battled all non legendary/mythical mons from Gen 4 to death, which team would win?

  8. Stantler really should have been part Psychic type. With all of it’s dex descriptions it makes more sense that it would be.

  9. Well I think I finally came up with a solution to our problems with Fly and its use

In the games we typically use fly as a way to move around, but since I want no HM’s in my region I figured out a substitute that fits perfectly into the area. A Train system (No this is not copying BW) because my region’s based on Pennsylvania one of the biggest train areas in the country so that fits it and unlike BW’s that goes to one place there’s going to be a train system that can take you to anywhere you already have been. Also can make an area that is like the big central hub and expand on it more

So think its a good use of brain power and creativeness or Nein?
