FAKE: First Alleged Gen VIII Details Surface

REMINDER: We discuss rumors not to pass them off as fake news confirmed information, but to stimulate discussion and highlight possibilities. Never treat this or share this as fact, because it is entirely unconfirmed information which may or may not be true.

The next main Pokémon title has already been confirmed to be a Nintendo Switch game, but not much else is officially known at this point. This hasn’t stopped some Chinese sources from sharing potential information about the game though. Our intrepid rumor reporter PokéSirena (you can follow her on Twitter) has helped us track down and translate the latest online gossip. These are from some of the same people who knew about Rainbow Rocket before it was revealed which is why we’ve taken particular note.

  • The Chinese localization team has already finished translating the games’ script
  • There will be no new Mega Evolutions introduced in the new games
  • Z-Moves return and now use motion control to activate using the Joy-Cons
  • Central plot revolves around the conflict between tradition and innovation
  • Region inspiration has been rumored to be Spain or Italy
  • Release to come late 2018 (~December) or early 2019

These details pale in comparison to what has also been said though, and that is the games feature a new, simplified battle system which has been compared to that of the Digimon World games. For those not familiar with them they use a real-time battle style in which moves are still selected via menu and include the option to attack or block moves from your opponent. It has also been compared to the battle system of Pokkén Tournament in which moves are either attacks, blocks or grabs and work in a rock-scissors-paper fashion.

If the above were to be true it would certainly be a change for longtime Trainers and could have the potential to disrupt the deep strategy game competitive players love.

What do you think?

  1. Real talk here:
It’s highly likely that the game’s story and mons were completed at this point. It’s said they had ideas for this game since 2012. I imagine they’re probably still working on making the actual game since I doubt it was originally intended for switch (Mainly cause you know who thought the switch wouldn’t perform well).
Yes, I do imagine that SOMETIME this year we’re gonna get smackalackadingdonged with the hardest of information

    Here’s what I do and don’t believe

    1. A battle system overhaul is basically impossible. No doubt the interface is going to look extremely different soon enough, but an entire overhaul is unlikely at best. I imagine that if anything the actual ease might be amplified. Sorta like how SuMo added in the “super effective” notifier over your moves to tell you what beats what or how it added in a thingy letting you see stat drops. So basically, expect fine tuning, not revolution
    2. We had people who believed Sun and Moon were going to be based in Egypt before the leaks came out. As much as it seems to be hinted, we all know game freak and I 100% doubt that either of the two speculated regions are going to actually be where the next game takes place. (I have reason to believe the next region will be mountainous but I digress). As of now, we have no actual proof of what it will be so try not to get your heart set on a region yet
    3. I’m not sure if y’all have noticed it but GF likes to tie in shitt with their console’s features… at least for the first game. DPP had stuff like the poketch to utilize the touch screen, X and Y tried (and failed) to utilize the 3d enviroments of the 3ds. God as my witness when I say this, the joy con motion controls are going to be utilized in SOME way. Idk how but trust me on that.
    4. Gen 8 may just be the start of a new story… or…. (god forbid) a brand new timeline
You see, think of how USUM was marketed
Not as the end of the 3ds era, but as a culmination of the past 20 years of Pokemon as a whole. (To be fair, a disappointing conclusion is fitting for the 3ds era, but the rest kinda got cheated out).
This game is going to be something brand new, in a sense. Think black and white. In some regard or another, this game WILL be a new experience.
    5. GF is waaaaaay further into this project than anyone probably expects…. rumors say this was planned since 2012. I’s not hard to believe when you really think about it
    6. Finally, this game will 100% come out in 2019. There is LITERALLY no question about it. 2018 is faaaaaarrr too early for this game to come out. We might know about it in 2018, in fact maybe it might even pop up in E3 and shock the masses. Point is, we certainly won’t have it until 2019. My prediction? In the summer weirdly enough

Feel free to screencap this, argue or insult me, and possibly even agree with me. These are just some thoughts of an avid Pokemon fan with an anime girl for a profile pic

      • Honestly Ghost types need some more attention
Maybe resist fairy types(like evil vengeful spirits overcoming those things and tormenting them)
Especially since Giratina doesn’t need another weakness honestly for me
And I notice ghost types seems to be quite low(?)

        Reply
        • That’s true. More ghost types would be cool. I’d like an entire area of a region to be dedicated to ghost types. Maybe a bigger graveyard that’s scary and dark. Plus a haunted Mansion or deserted town

          • Honestly Dhelmise should have gotten a evolution, maybe a ghost ship form
Or maybe a separate ghost ship pokemon that hangs out with Dhelmises

          • honestly that shouldn’t prevent it from getting an evolution much
In fact a few of the new pokemon here looked like they were supposed to evolve/felt ‘incomplete’

          • Apparently I forgot megas for that thing
Maybe a mega form for it or something..
Speaking of megas, I wished all of the Starters got megas

          • They’re both RU and have hazard removal, recovery, and a trapping move. Dhelmise has a weaker Ghost STAB but a higher offence, and it trades being a tiny bet less specially bulky for higher physical bulk. Dhelmise consistently hits harder whilst Deci has the option to use a one time per battle nuke.

They’re basically the same but alternative.

          • Dhelmise won’t be RU for long, trust me on that
Most people on smogon are saying it’s going to drop.
It’s cause the thing is extremely easy to wall. Deci wallbreaks, that’s what it does. In terms of hazard removal, neither actually perform that well in comparison to like Gligar.
Deci isn’t leagues better, but it is better
Viability ranks places Deci higher in RU as well so

          • Smacking your opponent with an anchor to the face > missing the opponent and accidentally hitting their shadow and passing it off as a deliberate ninja technique :p

          • It’s the objective truth. Ash will ditch his Rowlet and pick up a Dhelmise to reflect this. He will love it so much that it exceeds Ash-Greninja and become Dhelmash, an actual fusion between trainer and ‘mon with its own exclusive Z-Move and signature move. This is my prophecy

          • The name that the world will remember

Until he loses the Alola League to Silvadion’s Blast Burn and then everyone forgets about it and he releases Dhelmise because it fell in love with a Gyarados

          • Honestly since I heard that Type Null actually lost the first fight at a Ultra Beast(haven’t seen the later part of the anime yet) and the fact Rowlett apparently got fainted on most of the trials(sure I heard it helped good but getting fainted practically cancels those moments out for me)
I got a feeling the writers might not do that and probably screw Silvally over
I just feel iffy with the writers apparently
Especially how Lunala basically got shafted/sidelined to me honestly

          • If only Spirit Shackle isn’t ignored by Emergency Exit
I went “wut?” when Guzma’s Golisopod managed to use Emergency Exit despite it got hit with Spirit Shackle

          • I hated how despite their is like a graveyard/haunted area, there is only a few ghost types
Like not enough in each area
Like the wrecked marketplace in Gen VII (only freaking Mimikyu and Gengar line)
Its just usually Gastly/Haunter and one other ghost and that’s it
I am surprised there is no catacomb like place in XY, would have been perfect to find ghost types, like Honedge

          • I got a big thought sometime ago about a huge place(maybe a castle/mansion) that has all ghost types while having places that references legendaries/mythicals/Ultra Beasts that are Ghost types
With graveyard, tower similar to Celestial Tower form Gen V, etc

      • It makes sense since there are more species living under water in real life than any other. And there are lots of yet to be discovered.

I’m really surprised psychic is so high. I feel like it should be around dark but I guess lots of Pokemon has high thinking capabilities.

As for rarest 4, they really make sense. Fairy and dragon are kind of legendary creatures along with ghosts. And icy environments are really hard to survive and also adapt. So it makes sense there appears so little number of Pokemon who managed to survive and gain Ice type. If only they make this type a little bit better so it worths this rareness.

        Reply
        • Water’s reasoning for me is exactly what you said.
Psychic is so high because a lot of psychics tend to be three stage (metagross line, gardevoir line, abra, gothitelle, solosis) or two stage or legendaries. There’s soooo many psychic legendaries.

I always say ice needs a buff. SO BAD. Give it some resistances. Give it one more type to be super effective against. I think fairy would fit that well. That gives ice a super effective chance against dragon and ghost which are very powerful while still being weak to common types like fighting, fire, etc.

          Reply
          • Yes, ice can be supereffective against fairies. You know fairies are kind of protectors of nature,so having them fragile to harsh environments kinda makes sense. Also ice can resist flying. Wind can do pretty much nothing to ice, all it can do is cooling ice more. It can also resist water and bug.

I also feel like there should be some effectiveness connection between grass and fairy. They are already connected in conceptual sense and many pokemon with flowers are pure fairy type already. How about making grass resistent to fairy type. You can’t expect protector of nature to hurt it right. It makes sense in that way.

  3. Well darn, I was hopeing that the Sinnoh remake would be next. I hope that if the next game is another new gen that means they’re taking their time on the possible Sinnoh remake so it’ll be awesome.

    Reply
    • You’re the problem….(Im kidding obviously) but seriously why would you expect DP remakes next? Once we got confirmation that USUM was the last 3ds games, DP remakes should have flown far away from your thoughts. They’ll never start a new gen with a remake for multiple reasons, but one of the biggest is that remakes don’t make them as much money as brand new games

      Reply
      • Well if ORAS happened after XY which happened after BW2 then I can still have hope that Sinnoh will show up again after the next new gen. Also I didn’t expect it to be next I said I hoped it would have been.

  4. What makes a Pokemon? I’m not an artist or much of anything. I don’t really think I’m the ideal person to say it but here I am. Every single generation, count it, every one, has its own unique style. In many cases,I can look at a pokemon and say “that looks like a gen __ mon!”
Even fanmons have this to an extent. If I see a fanmon from a game like sage and one from a game like ethereal gates, I can pinpoint which game they belong to simply by how they look
More than anything, I’m eager to see the identity next gens Pokemon bring to the table.

  5. So since there’s so many newbies/returning peeps lurking, how about a dumb cheesy ice breaker thing?

    Favourite type?
    Favourite Pokémon?
    Favourite Pokémon game?

  6. One thing that I’m annoyed has never been retconned

Castform not having a Sandstorm form.

Castform is also one Pokemon for whom I would welcome an evolution.

Yes I know it’s a weather Gimick for Gen 3, but seriously not pushing that slightly further and having it evolve into four different forms depening on the overworld weather was such a shame…give them the corresponding weather setting and boosting abilities and you could have some solid Pokemon.

  7. I know how a lot of you dislike Fakemon ideas, but anyone want to comment on so far the name for my Picture Pokémon? I’m thinking about calling it Canvurse, or to break down the name a mix of Canvas and curse

    • Same though. Like, why wasn’t it a horse? That would’ve been PERFECT for Link..Also I wish Rhoam wasn’t in any cutscenes, he’s the worst voice actor I’ve ever heard. Also low key wish it actually focused on the champions like I thought it was supposed to. They each got a cutscene and that was it.. :/

      • I still gotta do the dungeon but I’m really confused more than anything. I thought this was goona address the complaints people had about the story but not… really? I had some really fun moments doing this DLC pack just because it’s BOTW and it’s great but still.

        Master Trials is fantastic tho

  8. The anime’s UB arc seems like it’s gonna be pretty baller. Even some surprise cameos by Marshadow which I wasn’t expecting given how it got a movie.

    • Can you give a link? Also, not super surprised Marshy is showing up because its Z-Move wasn’t shown off but I wasn’t really expecting it to reappear so soon :0

        • WHAT THE HELL WHY ARE THERE SO MANY COOL RIDE POKEMON IN THE ANIME? GARCHOMP, FLYGON, METAGROSS AND WE ARE STUCK WITH BUMS LIKE STOUTLAND AM OUTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

          Reply
          • Metang ***

            Also there was Dragonair ;-;

That’s another issue I have with USUM. Almost all the changes GF made were cosmetic yet they couldn’t give us some new “skins” for pokerides? More options?

          • They really replaced the Dowsing machine (which was a key item) with Stoutland search lmaoo. Could have easily used that slot for Rhyperior climb (to climb rocks/mountains) or bring back Soar to traverse the skies of Alola and battle flying types idk man

          • > Implying that any of those were actually scrapped for Stoutland Search when in reality they could co-exist
            > Wanting to see a Rhyperior at all

            Disgusting.

          • Didn’t know that but pretty miffed that’s not in USUM
Honestly seeing all those pokemon with those ridiculous harnesses and such and none of them not minding it at all kind of bugs me
Would be cool in seeing a Ride Pokémon show it doesn’t like the harness stuff that it has to wear and throws it off
Could show the Ride Pokémon could they got their own ways of thinking than just “be someguy’s tool/vehicle, blahblah”

        • Well my dong is expanded
I WANNA FLY ON MY GARCHOMP
And what was up with that Toxapex the coloration was all wrong
AND FUKING BUZZWOLE FIGHTING BEWEAR are they TRYING to make the planet explode

          Reply
          • It’s a deliberate design choice to make it look more like James

You see a Mareanie with the exact same colouring in the preview

      • Honestly Ho-Oh’s role in the movie is pretty disappointing
All it did was fly, leave a feather and had some short fight with an unknown result
Pretty disappointing since for so long Ho-Oh didn’t had a movie for it nor even a movie appearance
And I didn’t like how Marshadow brainwashed all those pokemon, it just bugs me for some reason..

        Reply
      • James and Jessie really owning two of the best competitive mons out there while Ash is stuck with a stupid fire kitten and a lazy owl. Cruel world man

        Reply
        • Honestly said owl can be a badass ghost archer while said cat can become a feline heel wreslter
If the writers ever even allow at least Rowlett evolve
I swear if we don’t get Decidueye then I know the writers are purposely going opposite with whats popular

          Reply
          • Nintendo probably just made a sh*t ton of Incineroar merchandise before SM came out thinking it would be the most popular only to realize that it was Decidueye by a mile so now they’re trying their hardest to make Incineroar a thing

          • So poor ghost birb is going to get upstage despite being more popular?
            Oh crud..
Speaking of ghosts, I wonder if Lunala is more popular than Solgaleo or is it a wavering balance scale on that?
