The next main Pokémon title has already been confirmed to be a Nintendo Switch game, but not much else is officially known at this point. This hasn’t stopped some Chinese sources from sharing potential information about the game though. Our intrepid rumor reporter PokéSirena (you can follow her on Twitter) has helped us track down and translate the latest online gossip. These are from some of the same people who knew about Rainbow Rocket before it was revealed which is why we’ve taken particular note.
- The Chinese localization team has already finished translating the games’ script
- There will be no new Mega Evolutions introduced in the new games
- Z-Moves return and now use motion control to activate using the Joy-Cons
- Central plot revolves around the conflict between tradition and innovation
- Region inspiration has been rumored to be Spain or Italy
- Release to come late 2018 (~December) or early 2019
These details pale in comparison to what has also been said though, and that is the games feature a new, simplified battle system which has been compared to that of the Digimon World games. For those not familiar with them they use a real-time battle style in which moves are still selected via menu and include the option to attack or block moves from your opponent. It has also been compared to the battle system of Pokkén Tournament in which moves are either attacks, blocks or grabs and work in a rock-scissors-paper fashion.
If the above were to be true it would certainly be a change for longtime Trainers and could have the potential to disrupt the deep strategy game competitive players love.

You’re kidding about No New Mega Evolutions right. They were a great addition in Gen VI, and there’s more Pokemon out there that certainly could use them. Pretty thankful we are for their introduction, they even made improvements to Existing Pokemon out there, even with Lucario in Smash 4. I mean when it comes to the Potential Sinnoh Remakes there’d have to be some way of Toughening up the Fully Evolved Sinnoh Starters like what was done with the Fully Evolved Hoenn Starters in the Hoenn Remakes. Sooner we see Mega Seviper, sooner there’ll be a Poison/Steel Pokemon, and sooner we see Mega Luxray, sooner there’ll be an Electric/Dark Pokemon. So please, will you kindly withdraw what you had to say about Mega Evolutions? Again, more Pokemon out there could use em, especially a good amount from Gen IV:

Will you people get it through your head that Megas are a gen 6 thing only? They don’t want to make new ones. Gen 7 skipped out on it because they are done with them.

I mean if this New Region is going to be literally connected to Kalos, if it were to be based off Italy or Spain, they definitely would have a good amount of connections like Johto and Kanto did. If entering Kalos post game were to happen, that region certainly won’t be the same without Mega Evolving Pokemon and other cool aspects it had to offer in X&Y.

because at the time, they weren’t confirmed. better off calling them fake until proven otherwise, luckily for us about a week or so later they were confirmed.
Well, TBF, almost nobody here likes most of these rumours so hey, if they’re not true then it’ll be more of a relief and or celebration than a disaster!
While I do agree that the hype culture around rumors are bullshit, USUM honestly kind of deserved some of that hate.
Too bad USUM not being on the Switch was not the problem. The problem with USUM is that their prerelease marketing was god awful, it wasn’t a sequel, and the game doesn’t change enough to justify two versions
I liked USUM but I can agree that it was quite a bit disappointing, considering it’s not even a real sequel and just an alternate story.
The insane anti-hype from announcement definitely didn’t help things, though.
I think what some people are forgetting about USUM, is that those two versions were basically made by the more inexperienced members of the game development team, while the more experienced members of the game development team were already working on something else.
no doubt, that they were working on the Switch versions, just what they have in store is the great unknown at the moment. as the only things confirmed is that we are going to get a Switch game for the main series of pokemon and that they are already working on it.
USUM, was basically a cover, to hide the fact that the more experienced team members have already been working on the new generation, but leaving the inexperienced team members to gain a little bit of experience on developing their own take on the Sun and Moon versions, it might not have got the desired results and could have been better, but at least we know GF are working on the next generation, still don’t know what it is, and people can only speculate at this stage.

Masuda has tweeted about Spain; he also tweeted that picture of him surrounded by enemy leader pokemon. Spain as inspiration definitely gives good fuel into tradition/innovation as the overall theme.
Going the Digimon World route means they’re looking into this even more of an RPG, and probably try to make it feel closer to how the anime is so free battle. While I’d like the system to stay as is, this new one could be interesting enough.
the best part about this possibility is, that the next set of games could be another set of bi-region games, since we all know who Spain shares a boarder with as well.
Honestly I am still miffed that SM didn’t have new megas(and hated how USUM botched the opportunity to fix that part)

Its also annoying how none of the pokemon we want to see get megas is practically screwed over from getting one
that’s because 99% of the experienced members of the development team were already working on something else, that left an inexperienced team to work on USUM.
And considering what is being rumored there is a decent chance that the next gen game could be a bi-region game with us re-visiting Kalos again, but that is only a slim chance and nothing has been confirmed yet.

Just watched GameXPlain’s video on the newest rumors for Pokemon for Switch. So apparently, the details in bullet points on the article are from the Chinese source that correctly predicted Team Rainbow Rocket and Molayne’s inclusion into the E4? While the “new, simplified battle system” rumor is from a couple of different sources entirely? Is that correct?
I hope that if the theme of the games is innovation vs tradition that we have traditional battles that the series has been known for as well as whatever this “new, simplified battle system” will possibly be. That’s something that I can get totally get behind.
Honestly these rumours can be actually damaging because people take it to heart instead of taking it as a rumour. Rumours might always damage Pokemon now since they seem to be happening way too much

First off, the game doesnt sound too pleasing to me from what it said. No new megas, but more Z moves? Seriously? It honestly sounds like they regret having megas in the first place. They make this huge feature then only put it in two games, and make it very hard to get in the next game.

How to tell Pokémon fans play like two games: they can’t comprehend major mechanics changes for the life of them.
PokéSwitch isn’t going to be a fighting game, they already have a Pokémon fighting game. If anything, combat would be more like Final Fantasy or Xenoblade (but simplified) because I can’t see Pokémon changing from anything but a JRPG

UPDATE: She responded to my tweet and said “I think it’s more likely to be Gen 8 than any remakes.” Really confusing. I hope it’s Generation 8 and a new region. Not Kanto Remakes. We’ve had enough of Kanto references and catering. I wouldn’t mind though if it was a Sinnoh Remake.
Has anyone seen this? PokeSirena completely contradicts herself from the news she shared with Pokejungle yesterday and says that the Rainbow Rocket leaker now says the next game for Switch could be Kanto Remakes. So the upcoming Switch game may not be Generation 8. I’m so confused. There’s way too many sources that conflict with each other.
I think I will only believe the thing about the Chinese localization team being done on the script, the plot, and the region potential. To be honest, they need to use this game to grow the pokemon world. I want them to have people in this game talking about other regions, and some events that might of happened there so that the Pokemon world has some more expansive world building. I don’t think motion control z moves will be a thing. I think the devs aren’t dropping mega evolutions, but I do think that this mechanic will be used every couple of regions and then cycled to something else. Also Italy/Spain, would make a little bit of sense if they wanted to have region that could potentially connect to Kalos. I think we will see tons of rumors, so it’s best to sift threw them.

To clarify something i see people elsewhere misunderstand, PokeSirena isn’t the leaker, she just gathers rumours regardless of whether she personally believes in them or not from sources that are either gaining a lot of attention or gave her reliable information before. She’s not a leaker herself.

I don’t know what simplified refers to, and I don’t know how they plan to change the battle system, but I’m sure gf will never overhaul the battle system.
Think about it. A major change to the battle system would mean changing how all the moves,items, and abilities work and I really don’t think gf will do it.
However the battle system is in the future, it will be a system where all the existing moves,items, abilities can still function like before.
