Ice-type Appreciation: Pokémon

One of the oft-neglected Pokémon types is Ice; their attacks are great for taking down formidable Dragon-type opponents, but the typing leaves much to be desired in terms of defense. It’s for this reason that they have often struggled competitively and now even have to contend with Fairy Pokémon trying to take their spot on teams.

There are still plenty of cool choices among the coldest Pokémon though. Collectors have often sought them for their beauty and style even if they fell short in battles. Generation I included no pure Ice-type Pokémon but did introduce us to classics such as Jynx, Lapras, Articuno and more. Further generations only bolstered the number of Ice-types available and even added an Eeveelution to the mix.

Let us know in the comments below your favorite Ice-type Pokémon from each generation, any memorable anime episodes featuring the type and any other stories you remember!

  1. Well folks the first stage of my Bear Pokémon. Introducing Bearby!

      • How its Fuzzy coat makes sense for Cotton Guard, they can throw Tantrums easily, bears lick their paws to get honey off, they bite (this one is arguable), hits heavy with its arm so it can learn Needle Arm, Detect and swift yeah I admit can be very debatable and they are noble so they can roar like that

    • If it’s Attack is higher at level 25 than it evolves into
      Neglair

“They live underneath the tree where there children stay and mostly sleep during their lives; when they sense their children in peril, they go to what ever lengths necessary to protect them even putting themselves at risk.”

      Move pool

      Move pool
      Start- Psyshock
      Lvl.42- Cosmic Power
      Lvl.46- Psychic
      Lvl.50- Misty Terrain
      Lvl.54- Moonblast

So your thoughts on Bearby and its evolutions?

      Reply
        • The name was a mix of Ursa and constellation

And the Fairy type is justified as since its based on Ursa Major, and in the Roman mythology major was originally a Nymph named Callisto
And since Fairies and nymphs are similar I thought the typing fit well

I do think Bearby’s move pool will be altered because by the time I got to this half I was exhausted and kind of dragged it to the end

      • I used Fake Out then Body Slam twice while holding the Silk Scarf. I did have to revive it a couple of times. It only paralysed it on the second Body Slam, but it was in Fake Out KO range by the time I had revived Torracat back in. Still not bad, it was a level higher than Araquanid at the start but given the type disadvantage I thought that was OK.

    • Its the game you play, usually just gotta run the smart way

I usually run scarfed Darmanitan, Emboar, Heracross, Kommo-o and they slay (especially Heracross with Moxie boosts)

  2. Okay based on the games I’ve played this year and since I won’t buy any more this year this is my best games of the year ranking. Will maybe follow up with a more detailed reviewed if people want to hear about a game they haven’t played. Note: Only will be about games that I’ve played, so some games can be left out.

    1. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Do I need to say more? Expertedly crafted, wide world with the best exploration in any game to date, the combat is better than other Zeldas, everything about this game just clicks. Definitely in the best games ever category.

    2. Super Mario Odyssey
Like BotW, it’s just expertedly designed. Might be on the easy side for a bit, but it’s varied, keeps refreshing and reinventing itself, lots of variety and tons of stuff to collect. Worthy follow up for 3D Mario.

    3. Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Might not be to everyone’s tastes and it has some flaws, but damn this is the game I’ve been putting the most hours in the days right after release. Would have been my favorite if not for Zelda and Mario releasing this year that are more polished. Pick this up if you like a good story, like challenging and rewarding crazy combat and have 100 hours to spare.

    4. Persona 5
It’s a bit in the same category as XC2, being very long and a grasping story. Didn’t finish it yet, and that’s mainly because the combat is not nearly as rewarding as any other turn based combat JRPG I’ve played. Will definitely revisit after I finished the other games on this list, it’s still on of the best JRPGs released ever.

    5. Metroid: Samus Returns
Metroid’s back baby! Very fun and tight gameplay, only hampered by some slight annoyances. It’s over soon though, and can’t wait for MP4.

    6. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
You all know this game. Take a great game and make it better, what can go wrong. #1 party driver.

    7. Stardew Valley Switch
Excellent port of a game that helps you relax and makes you long after Animal Crossing. Will keep you busy but while there’s lot of stuff to do, it may seem a bit too longdreaded with a slight lack of variety in chores to do.

    8. Splatoon 2
Great game, but just didn’t put many hours in it. It’s certainly a good upgrade from the previous one, but I lack the time to test out the online. Consider this a pending score.

    9. Dragon Quest VIII 3DS
Great port of a classical game, some good additions, but the only damn problem is that this 80+ hours and I haven’t had the time to play it any further. You see that I have a problem with buying 60+ hour adventures games.

    10. USUM
Ah, this is a well produced game. But released a year too late. This should have been what SM had to be in the first place. Worth its money, but not if you already played SM.

That’s all the games I bought this year! Well maybe except for Minecraft on Switch, but you all know Minecraft, no need for me to review it. If you have questions about one game you’ve been looking to buy, ask! 🙂

  3. One thing that’s bad about Phermosa’s shiny (i love it though) is the when the Pokemon first appears it’s completely black, so it appears like it’s shiny at first glimpse.

  4. Here’s what I think is Lillie’s team:
    – Lvl. 60 Clefable (she gets it as a Cleffa from Lusamine after she breeds Clefable)
    – Lvl. 65 Alolan Ninetales (see: S/M animé)
    – Lvl 60 Lurantis (she receives it as an egg)
    – Lvl 60 Aromatisse (Ultra Sun)/Slurpuff (Ultra Moon)
    – Lvl 65 Florges (she catches it on her own)
    – Lvl 70 Sylveon (she raises her own Eevee)

    Whaddya think?

    F*cking TRUMBEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate this completely evil Pokémon, they out Speed everything, have way to f*cking diverse of a moveset for Being a bird (really supersonic and Rock smash, get the f*ck out!), gets Pluck super early and nothing resists it at this point, almost leveled my team from Mr.D*ck c*nt rising star Mikey himself

I hate Trumbeak as a whole and want it to die in a horrible fire

  7. i really love the concept of ice-type, but a lot of the monster designs just don’t do it for me. there are a few nice ones, though! i really like Glaceon, Articuno, Lapras, and Alolan Ninetales.

  8. One thing I’m actually crazy excited about for the Switch game is the ability to stream on twitch easily. Until now you’d need a capture card embedded into your 3ds. That takes money and time also. With Pokemon coming to the Switch I can just easily buy a general capture card and then plug it in. I’d like to try streaming at some point and since I shiny hunt it seems like a no brainier to do it on stream.
