Showdown: Villainous Teams — Round I: Leaders
Launch of new Pokémon Centers
- Opening later this month in Hong Kong, Pokémon Hub will be the first official and permanent shop licensed by The Pokémon Company International outside of Japan since The Pokémon Center in New York closed for business in 2005! Although an official opening date hasn’t been announced it will be located at Tsim Sha Tsui, K11, Shop 217A
- Opening March 14th, 2018, the new Pokémon Center Tokyo DX and attached Pokémon Cafe will be located on the 5th floor of the Nihonbashi Takashimaya SC East Building in Tokyo! We’ll be visiting the new shops on opening day, so stay tuned!
Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon
- With 5,442,088 Pokémon captured, the games first global mission to catch 10 million Pokémon has resulted in failure. For those who participated you can pick up your reward of 1,000 FC (2,000 FC if you’ve connected your games to the Global Link) at the Global Mission counter. The next Global mission will be related to Mantine Surfing and take place from December 12th to the 27th
- Details for the Johto X Alola battle competition have been announced! This Double Battle competition allows you to only use Pokémon from the Johto and Alola Regional Pokédex. For this competition the usual Legendary and Mythical are banned, transferred Pokémon are allowed, and all Pokémon will be raised to Level 50. You can register for the competition between December 7th and December 14th, and the actual battles will commence from December 15th to the 17th. All entrants will get the 50 Battle Points. As always you can download the full rules within the Festival Plaza
Pokkén Tournament DX
- From December 8th until December 11th you can participate in the Iron Meteor Dive Cup! Participation in this Fixed Battle Arena, Basic Battle competition gets you a special Scizor centric title, and, as always, the higher your placement in the competition, the more titles you’ll receive!
Pokémon Duel
- Requiring 247MB, Version 5.0 of the popular mobile game is now available! This patch is required to continue playing and contains several changes to the user interface, adds special UX versions of The Cube, Rare Metal and Ingot items, and some brand new figures:
- UX Figures: Mega Sceptile, Mega Blaziken, & Mega Swampert
- EX Figures: Primarina & Tapu Fini
- R Figures: Brionne & Golisopod
- UC Figures: Popplio, Wimpod, Delibird, & Stantler
- In addition, a special 10 pack booster has been released with a guaranteed EX or UX drop, various new Plates centered around the new Mega Evolutions have been added, and a few figures have had some balance changes:
- Xerneas: Increased Moonblast’s Power from 70 to 99
- Yveltal: Increased Oblivion Wing’s Power from 100 to 111
- Lapras: Removed Pound and replaced it with Ice Beam, Increased Surf’s power from 60 to 70
Pokémon Shuffle
- Upon login all players will receive a Shiny Gardevoir
- The new Celesteela Ultra Beast challenge, and new Froakie (Winking) stage are available until December 5th
- The Ribombee stage and new Magearna Escalation Battle are both live until December 12th
- The Mudsdale stage is currently having a repeat run until December 5th, as well as the Alolan Raichu stage until December 12th

Fun fact: There’s actually an official Pokémon Center vending machine located in a mall here in Seattle – making it the only official “shop” outside of Japan currently. It’s just in a pretty boogie, old mall, within a notoriously dangerous area, and weirdly no where near the TPCi US HQ a few towns over. Surprised it’s still open in all honesty. haha

Really like those pokeball figurines with different pokemon inside. In Ultra Sun and Moon news I’m nearly done leveling up my team to level 60 and then I’ll start the final trial!
Finals JUST finished for me so I can finally take the time to finish the game – I’m just taking down the the Team Skull HQ in Po Town. I keep getting distracted by all the sidequests haha
The sidequest in this game are a real nice touch and hopefully they expand on them in new switch game. Hopfully I can finish the main game by tonight. Btw how do you think you did on your finals?
Ugghhhhhhh why is every bit of technology i own give me battery related paranoia
iPad, 3DS and laptop…
Still having the issue with my Ipad where it burns noticeably faster than usual making me absolutely terrified to leave it unplugged, i could handle shelling out for a new battery or a new Ipad all together but my gigantic cache of Showdown replays are on there and i don’t know how to do a mass exodus
the 3DS battery might be a bit simpler but as Kurusu said i must be critical with choosing a screwdriver for the screws, but i’m still scared i might botch it up
and my ancient laptop i keep in my room has a habit of saying X aamount of % (Not Charging) which freaks me out, i want to move my rig into my bedroom but there’s no space and if that happened i’d probably never leave my room’
I just want peace of mind with my devices knowing they are working properly and will continue to work unless major complications afflicted them
I have a similar problem with my phone which once went from 50 to 25 in less than half an hour, and that it occasionally dies between 10-35%.

I even sit my phone in my school bag everyday and it goes from 100% to about 70% by the end of the day. And by about 7 (about 5 hours after school) my phones at critical condition which is 5%
I know right! My phone dies so quickly it’s like it can’t even sustain itself without a charger.
Exactly, Lithium ion batteries suck! Remember when we had brick phones that lasted years without dying and were basically Shuckle grade, indestructable?

Yes, finally at 10% of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Time for the other 90 hours!
I give you 2 hours to finish the game.
How’s that game? I’m thinking about picking it up but I’m not sure.
It’s great, especially if you like the original Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii. It does have some flaws (navigation is sometimes confusing in these big spaces and the minimap ain’t great, performance in handheld ain’t good, voice acting can be offputting, character costumes are sometimes pretty bad, like oversized breasts, skimpy g-strings,..) but you get a game with a pretty good story (it has some cringey depths, but overthetop heights), rewarding and complex combat where you feel like a god, plenty of stuff to do and gorgeous environments.
One final warning: it’s very long, rushing would take you 70 hours to finish the main story and you can easily invest 100 hours in this game. Don’t pick it up if you don’t like overly long JRPGs (like Persona 5, Dragon Quest VIII,…)
A problem I have with an USUM plot reworking: So Gladion is all like, “mom, don’t hurt cosmog. Don’t open the portal.” And then after I defeat her he immediately changes his mind and goes, “let me come and help!!” Really? Now you’re suddenly okay with hurting nebby so long as you and type null can defeat necrozma? F*ck you, Gladion
It’s less ‘Omg lol I’m going to kill Nebby with you mom’ and more ‘We can work together, you’re doing it completely wrong.’ as well as a bit of ‘If this is the only way, then let us help you’.
The story still makes more sense than SuMo where Lusamine has a boner over extradimensional Pokémon that she doesn’t even see until the games begin. Whilst SuMo Lusamine is great for setting up Backstory, she’s a poorly developed antagonistic force. Her UB obsession doesn’t make any sense because the dialogue makes it pretty clear she hasn’t seen an Ultra Beast until Nihilego at Aether Paradise… But she’s still trying to get to them before she sees one at Aether Paradise? And the one thing that causes her obsession with Ultra Space (Mohn) is something you have to dig around and figure out yourself when it’s really something that should’ve been explained off the bat because she was an attempted sympathetic villain. When in reality, she just seems like an irredeemable psycho who suddenly snapped and gained an obsession with something she hadn’t even seen before.
Yeah, I can see it that way. But at the same time, I feel like he could’ve tried a different approach as well? All well, it’s pokemon. They’ve already got enough cutscenes and dialogue in this game.
What’s everyone’s favourite shiny Pokemon they got in USUM? Can be hatched, random encounter, Wormhole, anything!
So far I’ve only found 2 shinies in UM so I guess I’ll go with the first one I found in an Ultra Wormhole. It’s my shiny Swellow named Tsubame.
Ah nice! You can definitely get a ton of shinies from there but you’d need to do as best as you can.

But it’s poorly designed. Black and White did a desert right. Expansive, interesting, variable. Not a lost woods rip off with one of the worst features from X&Y (pokemon running into you) and also pokemon that you can run into by walking.

I would disagree. Deserts are confusing, but you can show that without doing a “lost woods” approach, which is just so overdone. I wouldn’t say it’s more realistic because you’ll enter one area and be teleported halfway across the desert, which makes no sense.

Just the name
I feel like some of the names have like, no sense of nuance. Like, at all. Even Gen I had less obvious names, as they’re either real names with obvious puns/meanings (Brock, Misty, Giovanni) sound like a word that’s related to the type but is still nuanced (Koga, Blaine) or are a pop culture reference (Sabrina).
I mean, I’m ready to change some of them, but I think these names actually fit the types you mentioned. Gale is a real name, but also related to wind, Drakoslav sounds like a real Russian/Polish name and contains ”Drak” (Russian for Dragon) and Clark is a popculture reference. Which ones do you think are the bad ones?
The ones you picked out are the ones I don’t have much issue with.
Typica is imo a bad name because it’s just a letter off of word relating to normal. Norman works despite being one letter off of normal because it’s a real name. Typica just sounds awkward imo.
Hubolt as well. It’s a portmanteau of a human name and something to do with electricity, but imo it sounds off because it doesn’t sound like a normal name someone could have. Volkner and Wattson work because the electricity terms are worked into the name so it still sounds quite normal, whilst Elesa works because it sounds like a variety of existing woman’s names (Alyssa, Aylsa, Elsa, Eliza, etc) but Hubolt just doesn’t sound like something you’d name a person. Even names where the pun is super obvious visually are pronounced in a way which feels natural (such as Brawly).

I hope for Gen 4 remakes they have Dex Rotom has a new form of him, all you need to do is obtain an “Alolan Dex Shell” from a visiting Alolan, such as Kukui or even Samson, and then when combining with Rotom, you’ll get a Ghost-Steel type. It’d fit Gen 4 and be a good way of referencing Gen 7.

I’m 50/50 on it. Z-Moves were the battle changing gimmick this time around. Regional variants are an easier way to design ‘new Pokémon’ and imo it’s reminiscent of Fairy being added alongside Megas. One was a permanent addition and the other was a fad.
I’d like it to be in the middle, around ~100 Pokémon, while having some sort of new variants, actually cross that, NEW EVOLUTIONS for older Pokemons, and instead of Gen 8 saying “you don’t need the past 7 gens” and making us play the entire game with a single men’s Pokemon until the end, I’d prefer both Gen 8 and all the rest Gen Pokemon to be available to catch. Yeah, I’d like a balance between the extreme homogenous Gen 5-esque version and the Gen 7’s version of diverse, natural selected-versions of Gen 1 Pokemon.

For Gen 8, I’d like them to introduce adding random Pokemon new evolutions/pre-evolutions. I know it sounds silly, but I liked that a lot when they did it in Gen 6 for Eevee, G4 for a ton and so on. Here are some Pokemon I’d like new evos in G8:
– Comfey: I’d like it’s evolutionary form to be a flower bouquet tied up with a steel wire, known as Floquet, and it’d be Fairy-Steel.
– Oranguru and Passimian having a pre-evolution known as Simpape, being a Normal type and being neutral.
– Mimikyu having a pre-evolutionary form called Michu, being a baby Mimikyu wearing a Pichu outfit.
– Lurantis having a final evolution known as Verantis, with it having sharp petal legs and new petal arms, and it having a vine-made hairdo.
– Lickitung having a pre-evo known as Licky who’s a baby with a tongue holding it up.
I still think Carbink should evolve via stone, but depending on which stone will depend on its color and also a possibly signiture move

Leaf for Green
Water for Blue
Thunder for Yellow
Moon for White
Sun for Orange
Dusk for Purple
Dawn for Pink
I also hope they make a 2nd shiny form for Diancie or replace it with Diancie being blue, because honestly a blue Diancie would look so cool.

Should I keep Cyeye an Aye-Aye that is literally a pun off of the name sounding like it has multiple eyes (Its evolution is Multeye) or make a Normal/Poison Slow Loris which is a kind of lemurs that’s bite is actually known to be poisonous?

I was thinking more of an Ancient Virus That was Dormant in the ice, so a Pokemon that is a Colony of Bacteria or something.

You should probably train ’em a bit.
Guzma was honestly the hardest character to battle in the entire game. Lusamine was a chump and while Necrozma did put up a good fight I prolly wouldn’t have had that much of a problem if my vanguard had been taken out.

I have more trouble with Lusamine and her Bewear. Willowisp missed and I didn’t want to switch so I kept using potions waiting for its attack to miss lol
I’d make sure your pokemon are level 46 or 47 before you take on the AF then.

That’s awesome. Sandshrew/slash were the only regional variants that I felt would have been better getting new names/being new Pokemon altogether. Their names are so specific to their type that it makes little sense to call Alolan Sandshrew/slash the same as the normal forms

Electric, we need more dual electric types. Electric/Fighting would be great, and Electric/Dark.

And Poison/Fighting, I know that combination already exists but I wish it’d get more explored

My god I wish Stakaktaka would turn yellow….I know I should have waited to shiny hunt until after I got my shiny charm back, but I started SRing for Stakataka and now I’m in too deep to stop now………Also……I wish Stakataka had a different name. It’s too goofy and dumb. Blacephalon is way batter of a name. Also, also I kind of wish Stakataka’s eyes were entirely hidden until it attacks. Normally it has one show while the rest are hidden, but I wish even that one eye was also hidden. I think it would add to it’s weirdness if it was just straight up a stone wall at first glance and then when it attacks all the eyes show up and glow red.
But the one eye is a look out.
Be that as it may I think keeping the eyes entirely hidden would have made it feel weirder and almost creep. Like it drops out of the wormhole and you’re like “what the hell is this wall doing here?” Then suddenly it turns red and all the eyes flip out staring evilness at you as it attacks.
But then it loses the blue ‘calm’ eye thing. If it were Rock/Psychic or Rock/Ghost and could sense things then it wouldn’t need a look out.
Eh…..I guess…..I still think it would be a cool slight change to it. Either way I guess……

I just watched Coco and I was extremely impressed by it! Some of you may know that I’m a huge Pixar fan and have been to the headquarters in Emeryville (which is only 20-30 minutes away). When I went there back in 2015, they had a whole upper floor blocked off filled with colorful Post-it notes and skulls and other things when this movie was being developed…and now it’s real and AWESOME. By far one of Pixar’s most intelligent and moving stories with animation that is way more detailed than it needs to be. Xatu Review: 9.9/10, because perfection doesn’t exist!
