Final Ultra Sun & Moon Trailer + REVIEW WRAP-UP

Well friends, the final chapter of our Alolan adventure is almost upon us and the final trailer before the release of Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon has arrived.

The review embargo for the games has also been lifted, so here’s what official outlets are saying:

  • Nintendo Life 10/10 – “You’d be forgiven for not wanting to jump back into the same world again so soon but, in their own right, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are truly incredible entries to the series that deserve to be sitting amongst the elite Pokémon titles.”
  • GameReactor 9/10 – “The story is much more engaging this time around, there’s plenty of call-backs for long-time fans, and the title’s proceed to push the 3DS even further.”
  • Gamespot 8/10 – “Though they aren’t very different from their predecessors, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon make enough changes to stand apart as the definitive version of the seventh generation games.”
  • EGM 8/10 – “The definitive edition of Pokémon Sun and Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon encapsulate the elements of what made the first set of games great—and also carry forward some of the games’ flaws.”
  • TheSixthAxis 8/10 – “Plenty of new features and details will make fans of the franchise very happy and while I still mourn for the DexNav to this day, the new content is well worth becoming Alolan Champion once more.”
  • GameXplain ‘Liked-A-Lot’ – “They feel incredibly familiar to those who have traveled to Alola before”
  • Famitsu 36/40

    • Because it’s being reviewed as its own game as it was released as its own game, not as an expansion of an existing title. There’s people who’ve never played the original SuMo so the reviews are far fairer for them too because if they treated it like DLC then people who never played SuMo but are looking to buy USUM wouldn’t get a fair look at how they stand as an experience.

      • I feel like reviewing USUM as its own game isn’t smart because its not its own game. It’s been marketed as an enhanced Sun and Moon, so the main points of the review for a game like this should always be the differences between these and the originals. The reviews should really question: Was this worth it? Did this need to be made? What are the changes and are they good enough for the consumer to buy again?

It seems from these reviews that most of them think they’re worthy of existing.

  1. “there’s plenty of call-backs for long-time fans” ejem probably stuff for only gen 1 ejem

But anyways, just by the reviews I can tell that the game are SM but with improvements and new features, so like, every third version ever, but I’m surprised the scores aren’t a bit higher if it just SM but better, but maybe it’s because it is still too similar to SM lol

  2. Part of me is excited for this game…part of me hopes this is the last third version we ever see. Literally if USUM is the game you wanted to make from the beginning, THEN MAKE IT FROM THE BEGINNING.

  3. I don’t care what anyone else says I’m looking forward to playing these games. There’s been so much complaining negativity about them it’s been ridiculous. Do these games not deserve to be respected in their own right as you would Platinum? I’ve seen people saying that you should completely ignore DP because Platinum is the real game of the 3. Should USUM not be treated the same? Or at the very least given the chance? All that said yes I would agree I do hope going forward they drop the 3rd version standard

      • I find complaining about people complaining about people complaining about USUM more complaining than people complaining about USUM

It’s kinda complaining the problems people have with it

      • I’m not saying you HAVE to like USUM. You don’t, but acting like it’s any different from Platinum is crazy. You’ve said yourself that Platinum is one of the greatest games in the series so how is it really any different with USUM? (not saying they’re the greatest tho). I’m not happy that they’re going back to regular 3rd versions either, but we get what we get. you can’t compare USUM to BW2 because they’re very different games that are out to accomplish very different goals. Is USUM the best game in the series? I can’t say that as I have not played it yet and maybe it isn’t in general, but the fact is this is what we got. If you can critique Platinum as if it’s a stand alone game then I think it’s only fair for you to critique USUM as it’s own game too. If you want to throw in things like why wasn’t this in SM and why wasn’t that in SM then I could say the same thing about DPPT. Why wasn’t the BF in DP? Why wasn’t the dex better organized? Why wasn’t the pacing better in DP? If they could put all of that in Platinum then why couldn’t they do that for DP? See it’s the same thing. The only difference it that now we’ve had a taste of the series without regular 3rd versions being around and that in itself is a better deal. Again I want them to get away from 3rd versions too as they’re redundant, but for now we have what we have and we should critique the individual games for what they are rather than constantly comparing them to other games

        • It’s very different from platinum actually. The issues in Diamond and Pearl are actually fixed. Not really so in USUM.

It’s also two games soo..that leaves a bad taste in my mouth

By your logic, Crystal and Platinum are equally good which is ridiculous

    • Well done friend for standing up!
There’s just too much negativity towards GF and the Poke games these days.
I too just like yourself give no value to the negativity or negative people anymore.
I’m gonna enjoy the game and appreciate them for what they are!
      Only few days left now!

    • Eh people seem to be complaining because they’re tired of third versions every time a new game comes out that aren’t very different from the main game and because there has been problems with the marketing before so people didn’t really knew what they were getting.

    • People are allowed to complain. Most of the heavy complainers, like Star and Ultron, are buying the game hence giving it a chance. They’re allowed to express their opinions on the game just as people who praise the game are.

      • Not saying people can’t complain outright, but they shouldn’t act like USUM are some majorly new upset where it’s never been like this before. People love the old 3rd versions and never complain about them much, but now that we got USUM it’s all this weird negatively as if this has never happened before.

        • Because the old third versions came out when DLC weren’t common practice and were utilised for games that had more glaring issues then SuMo had. Most of SuMo’s issues could’ve been fixed with a sequel rather than a copy paste.

Also it’s unnecessarily split into 2 when one of the points of past third versions of were to unify the two first versions.

    • Looking forward to not being able to play Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon despite it being week long break due to an interview in another state, and visit from extended family for who knows how long-hopefully not during Thanksgiving.

  4. I feel like there are a lot of lurkers on the site. (Nothing wrong with that). I looked at the total number of votes for the current poll on Pokejungle (309 votes). I am estimating that I have only seen like 1/10th of this amount actually posting on the comment section in recent articles.

  5. Collect BP and Learn New Moves!

In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, you can teach your Pokémon moves in exchange for Battle Points—moves they would not be able to learn by leveling up or through any TM. There are places where your Pokémon can learn these moves on each island.

You can earn BP by winning battles in the Alola region’s battle facilities, such as the Battle Royal Dome and the Battle Tree, or by using Mantine Surf from various beaches.

In addition to teaching moves to the Pokémon that travel with you on your journey, you can also teach them to the Legendary Pokémon you’ve caught by passing through an Ultra Wormhole. Come up with your own favorite combination of Pokémon and moves to stand out from the crowd!

  6. I’m watching the GameXplain review. so apparently they fix SOS battle calls to only have the Pokemon call one rather than endless call Pokemon over and over? If that’s the case that may ruin shiny hunting through SOS calls…….

  8. So let’s say gen 8 is next year. And also that the next movie has a gen 8 Pokemon. I hope that the gen 8 Pokemon isn’t a mythical. I’m sick of the special guest Pokemon being mythicals. I want them to go back and do a movie where it focuses on a regular Pokemon for once. I liked the Lucario and Zoroark movies a great deal. Sure they both technically had mythical Pokemon in them, but they weren’t the main stars. If the new mythical for this gen is one of the Pokemon in next year’s movie (and we know it will be) I hope the other special Pokemon isn’t a normal more attainable mon. Mythicals are coo, but I’ll never consider using on in my main team.
