Jungle Asks: Have you chosen your Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon team?

There isn’t anything exciting to report about Pokémon Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to talk about! I want to know if any of you have decided on teammates to use in the new games or if you even have an entire team already pre-planned for your run-through!

It is a bit early, since we don’t know if there will be any new Pokémon besides UB: Burst and UB: Assembly or new forms, such as Necrozma’s or Lycanroc’s, but the ability to trade Pokémon from the original Sun & Moon mean that you have a lot of freedom to plan and breed in advance. When we first stepped into Alola we didn’t even have Pokémon Bank to bring our favorites into the new region.

Don’t forget, there’s a whole lot of new wild Pokémon running around the islands as well! You can see some of them above.

Well… I can’t wait to hear (read?) your comments down below!

    • All 3 put me off using them in gen 5 unfortunately. Although I’m sure I could’ve used them I didn’t know what the level curve would be, coming out of HG/SS i wasn’t sure they’d be evolved by the league which would’ve been a pain.

      • They’re all slightly above E4 level so unless you grind they’d be unevolved (especially Larvesta, the other two are more realistic)

On the plus side you get the Eviolite starting that Gen

        • That’s what I thought. I really want all of my Pokemon fully evolved before the league unless I’m not evolving them at all which I’ve never done. Were I to grind them above league level I’d find that too easy. Still I can use them post-game so it’s not like they are blocked to me forever.

  1. Well, I kind of am half-way there:

Incineroar (Fire Type Stars will ALWAYS be my favorite. I always love using them)
Lycanroc (Dusk) (YESSS!!! I never used Lycanroc, but my little sister did and it’s one of her best Pokemon, so i figured with a new form, i might as well try it out!)
Carracosta (I need a GOOD water type, yet I’ve found them hard to come by as of late, so I’m going to take what I can!)
Lurantis (My sister had a Tsareena, so I’m trying to find a good contrast with her in that)
Salamence (Same with Carracosta, lack of flying types (SPECIFICALLY IN THIS REGION), and having a pseduo-legendary wouldn’t hurt on top of that)
Electivire (I’ve NEVER had one of these before. I think that it looks cool and that I have no excuses not to use one this time around)

Now, I’m sure people will ask why I’m not using some very obvious choices for Pokemon (i.e. Toucanon for flying type). Let me show you my Sun team:

    Incineroar
    Primarina
    Deciduye
    Toucannon
    Vikavolt
    Bewear

Now, I’m trying really hard to use different Pokemon. I used to never really spread-out and used different ones, yet I’m trying to use some that may be a bit more out of the way. Also, I’m JUST WENT THROUGH A REGION WITH THESE POKEMON!!! I’m sick of them, and battling with them is boring…

I’m really just focusing on really having a new experience with my Pokemon, so I’ using ones that i don’t normally use!

  2. I’m not 100% sure, but this is a tentative team. I had A. Raichu on there, but since I used Pikachu in Yellow I don’t really want to again. I may go Togedemaru or something, but I’m not sure. I wish they would tell us if there are any new Alolan forms. Once I find out what’s available I’ll be able to make a more informed decision. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/00453cdbb71a01f626b5f5b5f9a54626974a4d21ab51fc035abef488f986ff36.png

  3. I haven’t decided on a pokemon team I’ll play on USUM, all I know is that I’ll start with Litten again. I’ll make my team a bit more diverse this time around

  4. Not sure if I will even be buying the game yet to be honest. Not enough of a reason to.
Probably just watch a playthrough on YouTube or something.

    • I mean, the Necrozma thing, the revamped trials/totems, the new forms and z-moves, the mysterious figures on the poster, I really think it’s worth playing

      Reply
      • The thing is all that is just competitive stuff getting a boost, which I will mostly play on Showdown anyway…

If there were enough new areas, new Pokemon (formed or otherwise), major story changes, an endgame with more content e.t.c I would consider it, but at the moment there’s not enough for me personally. Hopping that changes…

    • I’ll def let you know if it’s worth it if you don’t end up getting it. Though, this is definitely taking a backseat to Battlefront II, which I am actually excited for

      • Yeah, I will be keeping updated. If I like what I see closer to the time, and obviously watching a couple of play throughs I may end up buying it. But it depends.
Don’t really have any games I’m super excited for at the moment, then again I don’t really get the time to play much any more…such is life.

    – Vikavolt
    – Mimikyu / Minior / Bruxish

    Alolan Dugtrio
    Alolan Eggy
    Dusk Roc/Toucannon

  8. I planned to replay sumo, but never did.
So my team’s going to be my planned team for my rerun probably.

    Deci.
    A ninetales
    Araquanid
    Lycan dusk (planned midday originally)
    Tsareena
Idk jangmoo if it’s early, or maybe A.Marowak

  9. Hmm… I’m trying to use ones I haven’t used, I haven’t finished my 4th SunMoon playthrough yet.

For my first time in USUM, I’ll probably have Incineroar, and the Dusk Lycanroc (bc I’ve used both other forms). I want to use these at some point: Golisopod, Araquanid, Palossand, A-Dugtrio, A-Exeggutor, Turtonator, Mimikyu, Wishiwashi, Togedemaru, and Bewear.

In the current playthrough, I’ve got a Passimian and an A-Ninetales planned. Trying to make a Bewear work, but I’ve got a Kangaskhan and the Passimian, so there’s not much call for her.

Ones I’ve used but weren’t on the final teams: Mudsdale, A-Persian,

    • I’m gonna buy the game anyway because game freak can milk me like a cow so at this point the terrible marketing doesn’t matter to me

    • Largely unimpressed. I still don’t quite understand their reasoning for doing a third version after they specifically said they were looking for ways to surprise people and not do something typical. Even if it’s in an “alternate universe” an “alternate telling” is exactly the same thing a third version does. I mean was it really just because they had to divert resources to the Switch pokemon game coming? Or are they creatively bankrupt at this point? Design wise I say they’ve been downhill…but story-wise Sun and Moon started righting the wrongs of Gen 6, even if it still did not reach the heights set by Gen 5.

Also, how do we know something new is coming tomorrow?

      Reply
      • There is a game demo tomorrow. Paul Ryan also showed two unknown z-crystals, and two mystery images (that I believe will be revealed tomorrow if I am remembering correctly). Also I think someone important is showing up at the game demo tomorrow. Thus people are expecting for at least a Z-move to be shown tomorrow.

        Reply
        • Ah. I don’t use Z-moves and think they’re a huge waste of development time that could be spent on sharpening up the games, but to each their own

      • I don’t see why people think GameFreak’s ‘getting worse’, they’ve pretty much always been on this same level. Only game that really went above and beyond from an objective viewpoint was BW imo, because it was their second round with the DS and it also wasn’t obviously rushed for something

        Reply
        • I actually agree with this.
Gf is in no way getting worse. Heck, SuMo was their best game since BW,and while they did have their faults, they did some things i want to see in future Pokemon games and i really felt gf tried with sumo (until I played the postgame that is)

The problem is, gf isn’t getting worse, it’s just not getting better

          Reply
          • Imo Gen VIII really feels like it’ll be the make or break for me. Gen VI seemed sacrificed in a rush in order for the series to catch up to consoles, and SuMo was obviously rushed for the 20th anniversary imo (but that shows up as a lack of post game rather than majorly effecting the main game imo) but Gen VIII not only is getting a break with USUM not diverting too much attention, but also isn’t being rushed because the switch isn’t going anywhere soon.

          • Sorry, thought you meant game design

Imo Pokémon design is too subjective to really judge the progress of the series unless it majorly decays (as in lazy, rushed designs that aren’t just subjectively bad), but I do feel completely imo that they have a consistency problem (Gen VII feels super cartoony and comical with some designs which feels jarring for me)

          • Yeah it’s definitely subjective. I felt the same way about a lot of the Gen 6 designs as well. But part of the problem really could be just that the generations are so small now and likely will remain this way.

          • I think it’s just down to simple ‘less Mons = less chance of Pokes to like’

Tbh I think I’m lucky because I really like many of 6 and 7’s designs but for all we know I might be in your position next Gen

          • Yeah, but personally the bad ones have outnumbered the good ones these last two gens. Usually there are just a handful of ones I don’t care for

    • If you refer to the Milan Games Week it is not tomorrow. Pokemon will be covere on Saturday, 30 September, while on Sunday 1st October Ohimori and Iwao will sign autographs

    • Personally I am still optomistic. Due to the reveal of the UB recently (new Pokémon) I feel strongly that they are also going to include new Alola forms-probably Johto Pokémon. That is what is going to really draw me into these games and get me hyped. Therefore, I would say that I am currently in a pre-hyped mode.

    • What’s up with Hollywood adapting Japanese stuff nowadays. I really hope they don’t ruin this one, I mean, unlike the Death note film, this one has a competent director

      Reply
      • Japanese stuff is actually creative unlike hollywood maybe.

I don’t care how good the director is, it’s pretty much impossible to translate traditional Japanese stuff like mitsuha’s village and the sake thing for American audience.and all of that was a major part of the movie.

I mean, Hollywood messed up something as easy to adapt as deathnote so this is gonna be shittier
