First of all, calm down.
It’s all subjective for one.
I liked the Battle Tree. It never advertised itself as anything more than a Tower clone, but innovates by using Megas and Z-Moves. We’ve also got returning characters which is great fanservice. It’s probably the best Tower clone so far, and even though it’s boring and repetitive it’s better than its predecessors.
Battle Royale was an innovative new game mode. Should they have held it off for hardware that handles it better? Yes. It has the same amount of models on screen as Triples/Rotation does, and they got removed because of that
and also because Rotation sucked. But to be honest, it’s a good game mode that you’re never forced to use at all. I really enjoyed the Battle Royale, and I know others have too. I’m probably a bit biased because I have a new 3DS so it handles it better, but tbh the horrid FPS isn’t as bad as it could be because it’s a turn based game. It still majorly lowers enjoyment but it isn’t the end of the world.The Battle Subway and Battle Institute stayed in BW2, which introduced the PWT. Just because old features are staying in a third version doesn’t mean there’ll be no new features at all. Even if there is no new battle features, it won’t be the fault of these two facilities because they’ll probably just be copy pasted from SuMo with differences such as giving Alola mons tutor moves and maybe throwing new Alolans (if they happen) and Dusk Form in there.
Calm down fam, these are all optional side features and seeing as they’re already established in SuMo won’t take enough dev time to justify removing new features. If Game freak really wanted to slap a million filters onto the Battle Tree and call it a whole new thing like they did in Emerald and Platinum, they’d do it and just straight port the old features.
And how about the plaza?
Maybe read the rest of the post before immediately trying to deflect? You’re not forced to use the plaza’s functions after an admittedly annoying demo. Yes it sucks its the way we get online, but it’s honestly not a big deal fam.

Fam. It’s not a big deal. Yes it’s how we get online, but besides the demo (which I acknowledged and criticised) it’s pretty much a few extra seconds to get online each time: it’s dumb but it’s not life ruining.
These games are just updated versions of Sun and Moon. If you didn’t see all these features returning, I don’t know what to say besides get over it.

Battle Tree really just needs an extra mode or two (Rental and Swap, or Rental and Inverse?) to spice it up. Although people have pointed out the need for online multi, and as well as this we obviously need more Battle Legends – especially from Johto. Also use all the Trial Captains.
Battle Royale… Maybe add another rank where people use banned legendaries? Besides maybe increasing the chance of the Masked Royale appearing I just can’t think of ways to improve it besides allowing you to undertake battles with your friends in the Dome, so you don’t need four people to enjoy the mode with them.
Finder just needs to become a better varied feature. Either add more Pokémon to the mix, or give the current Pokémon more emotions, poses, etc. Also change the spawn rates of some Pokémon because it’s boring getting the same Pokémon a million times and then the rare one once.
Festival Plaza…. Eww. Please just shift all the online features out of there and make it its own thing. Also, streamline it a bit, add more variety, and don’t make the tutorial as boring. Maybe
Pelago is pretty much perfect IMO, I guess just make the EXP and happiness/hatching a bit faster and make the wild Pokémon have their HAs because they’re not worth the hassle imo. Or add exclusives to it, preferably Pokémon not in the AloDex.
Really hope Island Scan comes back too, with a new variety of Pokémon. Maybe the Sinnoh and Hoenn Starters, and Sina and Dexio can provide the Kanto and Kalos starters? Then all starters would be available in Gen VII.
I mean to be fair they could fix Battle Royales by making it that the game doesn’t end when one trainer is out of mons… it makes games either really short or really crap cause you have to avoid a certain person to make sure the game still goes on. I’d be fine with it if they did that
The whole point of the Royale is to be fast. Although I do guess that having two modes (Knockout (the one we have) and then Last Mon Standing) would be better than one option

Probably because they’re busy adding actually innovative features whilst trying to release a game every year or two so they decide to spend time on that rather than putting an RNG filter on the Battle facility

I mean, gen 5 added a lot of new stuff BUT they added PWT ( aka better BF) so I’m still thinking that they could’ve made BM and BT better for some reason.
And new features aren’t here to substitute what these battle facilities are here for: add post game.
Gen 5 didn’t add much new at all, it’s probably the least innovative of all the games besides its WiFi and wireless connectivity. Gen 1 introduced the franchise, Gen 2 refined it, Gen 3 reworked the core mechanics into something more like the current games, and Gen 4 added the physical special split. Gen 5 didn’t rock the gameplay majorly at all, but instead utilised what was already there well and had a compelling narrative.
BW2 was an enhanced game (but with a new story) so it’s not really a fair comparison to base pairs because it had an extra two years of development with most of its assets already made.
Yeah, in gen 5 gameplay wasn’t very innovative yet in your gen 6 example you include things like 3d world and cutscenes, (and in gen 7 things like UBs and story) so it wouldn’t be unfair to name the moving sprites, 3d bridges, camera movement and more dynamic battles as innovations.
And 2 years of development for BW2? Didn’t SM had the same time? But working on a new engine is hard I guess
That’s the whole point. Sun and Moon was a new engine with a completely new region, BW2 had most of its assets already existing because it had its own dev time + black and whites
Those aren’t as innovative because Game freak had been working in 2D for years – that was simply building on what was already there. Innovative, but not as much so.
Other than fairy type and cosmetics (3D etc.), they removed most of the gen 6 features.

It’s innovative at the time, even if it isn’t maintained. Innovation literally just means new. Those innovations still took time to make, even if they’re removed after. They’re innovating each individual game, even if the innovation doesn’t stay the whole franchise. Because the thing about Game freak is that it isn’t like they just strip away features and leave nothing, they change and innovate and add new things every gen.
The difference between TVs and Pokemon is that they’re not constant. Every Pokemon game has different features, and add and subtract, not just add on. It’s a whole different beast entirely. Whilst HD is better than CRT objectively in pretty much every single way, Pokémon removes and adds features that are mostly subjectively better or worse.
They aren’t moving the series forward in anyway if they keep taking this stuff out though. At all. Its meaningless
They’re not just taking away tho. They add and subtract side features whilst there’s never been a major core change removed. Phys/Special split? Still here. Steel and Dark? Still here. Special split? Still here. Fairies? Still here. Megas? Replaced with something similar and kept as a post game function, and is being kept on hold because the devs have shown interest in returning it to the center stage.

This mostly doesn’t really surprise me that these returned honestly. The Festival Plaza was the main online feature for the gen like PSS, so I expected this. I saw the Battle Royale and Poke Pelago on the new map, so there’s that. And the Poke Finder was something that I knew some people would want (considering they can get mons outside the Dex).
The only one I was surprised about returning was the Battle Tree. I figured they might pull a Emerald or Platinum and modify the battle facility/completely transform it this time around. Even as it returns, I’m curious to see who we can Battle at the tree now in these new games.
Edit: just realized the Poke finder were the picture taking of Pokemon by Rotom. Whoops :p

Mario, at its core, is a platformer. It’s stayed a platformer consistently.
Zelda, at its core, is about exploration and dungeon crawling. It’s still about that at its core.
Pokémon at its core is a turn based RPG, a genre that is hard to innovate to the same extent because it’s more specific. There’s also the fact Pokémon’s spent longer without the same extent of innovation that it would inevitably lead to an uproar, even if the new system is good, because some would miss the old system.
If the community uproars, bring out a soundproof Pokemon

Final Fantasy was a franchise whose combat system were changing slowly with each new installment, like they stopped being turn based at 4, so it’s not really a fair comparison when FF combat turned slowly into an action like game and Pokemon is still completely turn based.
Also, FFXV combat looks so different it’s because it was supposed to be a spin off and they couldn’t be bothered to change the battle system so
Final Fantasy, as Kuppo said, was changed years ago and to be honest aren’t even that closely related to each other because every number is a new installment with an all new universe and game play system

Yes, but I mean not 2D platformers, which was what the series was built as. It completely changes how you play the games.
The thing is a change to a 3D world can be made with changes to a platformer, yet its still a platformer. It stayed a platformer just like Pokemon stayed a turn based RPG, it’s just that turn based RPG isn’t as flexible and innovative as something as simple as ‘jump and run’ (which a platformer is)
It totally is though? Undertale, Xenoblade, Mario RPGs, are only a few examples but they are all RPGs that make the battle system unique and interactive and you aren’t just pressing buttons

Not throwing shade at anyone, just generally asking. Why are people surprised that the Battle Tree is back and acting like it automatically makes the game bad already? Like this isn’t new info? We’ve seen it on the map we’ve had for like a month now, and people were crying about it back then too. It’s also just common sense seeing as other third versions/sequels kept the base game’s facilities and either expanded or added new facilities

Read some comments below that GameFreak should change the formula and make Pokemon more like Odyssey or Zelda? Hope y’all realise that it is literally impossible to make a game with 800+ animated models and expect it to run, let alone smoothly. Pokémon Vega is a fangame that has a nearly nonsensical story, a shitty level curve, and a worse battle facility than the Madison

Without a battle facility and adding only one new area to the post game… why is it so good?

When the Pokedex was complete, new parts of previous area opened that held higher level trainers and legendaries and countless events. There was an endless number of new events to do and areas to explore created literally by adding one floor o areas. Gym leader rematches were held in these areas, sidequests were there
And best of all? Completing the dex unlocked a challenge dungeon LIKE area with hard puzzle and high level Pokémon as well as more legends
By adding a post game that is even longer than the main game , Pokémon games will feel so much more fulfilling…

Prolly won’t be open world. From what I remember I think either Masuda or Ishihara said that they don’t think open world would be something they’d want to do for Pokemon. Bigger routes I can definitely see, but not sure about full open world
I think true open world would fit a spin off better, and the main series would be better with something along the lines of ‘fauxpen world’ if you will

Because ‘collect X number of Ys to fight the champ’ won’t translate as well, especially with the levelling system. They could change it all, but gradual would be better.
Then… change it. Because the gym badges/trials are secondary to catching pokemon.
Make some new win condition.
The thing is though, there will always be a string of boss battles leading you in a main series game because although catching is your objective, battling is your method of advancing through the game. And because of the levelling system, which interacts with the move and evolution systems, it’s always going to have some version of a straight progression or slightly branching progression unless they completely overhaul the franchise to the point its unrecognisable, which would risk alienating fans and losing money.
Hence why a gradual change is way better even tho it’s not the most likely option imo
Then scale it to your progress like Breath of the Wild does. Defeating a gym causes more dangerous and higher leveled Pokémon to spawn. Gym battles are done in a similar way to divine beasts.
Gyms are harder causing you to have to explore and find pokemon that would counter the leader’s
I like the idea and it’s what I wish would happen, but tbh it sounds like a lot more hassle when GF can give a linear to semi-linear narrative and then spend the extra dev time on other things.

They now have the luxury of creating lesser routes, but much much bigger. So instead of 22 small ones, maybe the Switch game will have 9-10 really large ones.
And of course because they’re not bound by technological and/or memory restrictions, they can incorporate more than 1 region.
I don’t think more than one region would make sense. Maybe in a Gold/Silver way with an old one, but that’s all.

No? Past games have all been pretty linear, especially compared to other games. The only real choices you have in the game to break order also don’t work out well because levels make it obvious who they want you to fight first

No. These models are so overdone that the 3DS can’t even handle more than two on screen without slowdowns. They are so over detailed
Because those 800+ are in a turn based RPG that constantly splits up its areas, and aren’t loaded in until you get into battle – there’s never more than six (triple battles) out a time, whereas at one time an open world would have like at least 15+ on average performing unique actions
But open world in a more advanced console like the switch so not only they would be more advanced but would also each one must have a lot of unique animations for them to work in open agmes
They don’t have to animate EVERY SINGLE ONE.
They already have walking and running and idle animations for all of them.
But it wouldn’t make sense to animate 150 when you have another 700 or so. Just forget about the rest?

In my Junior year, a couple friends and I were members of the math honor society. The leadership team then sucked, so we “usurped” them and took their positions.
The next year was spent regretting our decision because it was the teacher/sponsor who was the problem, not the students. Everyone pretty much jumped ship except for myself and another friend, who could tolerate the teacher and actually try to get stuff done. Wild times in math club :^)

Oh the topic of open world, I DO believe we should have open world….to an extent
Like it’ll have the aspects of it but there will still be a little bit of linearness. Like the game story will adapt to what you do before reaching an overall climax at the end . Levels will balance to player levels and stuff. It won’t be 100% open world, more like 75%.
The battle system will remain mostly unchanged but the attacks as well as effects like Terrain are constantly shown.
So like it’ll be open world enough to make choices about where you want to travel, but the story would have alternate paths that end the same way based on where you decide to go

When it’s your job to make designs. You don’t get artist block. You just keep drawing. Because you’re being payed to do that
If a 20 something on deviantart can come up with a satisfying design then so can a professional artist working on a long running franchise
And if you can’t make a satisfactory design when you’ve got perfectly good designs for other Pokémon, it’s your job to not linger on the one that’s not giving good results and then focus on the ones you can get done

I thought it was kind of fun for a while. The missions where you earn coins by knowing type matchups and such, but having the other people “teleport” where you were trying to walk every time got old really fast. And not being able to preview what an attraction did or sold, and not being able to save and reset if you took a chance and hated it.
Not being able to upgrade the attractions by yourself like Join Avenue was annoying. In general it’s just a pain to have to keep going in and out of the place and reconnect every time.

It’s still NU, and random isn’t a good indication of anything because they take measures to even the playing field. Outside of random, in actual tiers, Incineroar performs poorly.
His weak point is that his stats are too spread out, his only physical fire attack hurts him, and he has a defensive ability with an offensive type. At least Furret had the excuse of being a regional rodent.
I kinda now want to test this if anyone wants to go in a head to head, 1 on 1, Incine v.s. Furr fight with me

Two Nasty Plots and she was able to destroy my team…..If it wasn’t for Houndoom I would have wiped the floor with her……..*sigh*….At least I know next time I’ll be able to get back to her with limited troubles. The only other person I had trouble with was Will and even he was taken down in no time. I’ll have to go in knowing I need to take her Houndoom out right away.

YAS!!!!! I beat the league! It was so close right at the end. I was down to Maoswine and Lance down to his strongest Dragonite. We were stuck in a loop of me using my healing items and him using Outrage. Just as I was using my last healing item and getting ready to mount a final attack in desperation his Dragonite got confused. Up until this point I had gone through another round of it being confused and never hitting itself so I wasn’t sure my luck would change. I decided I’d go for it since I had no more healing items. First an Ice Shard to test the waters. I was positive his Dragonite would hit me and I was sure I’d be going through the league yet again. Just in the nick of time his Dragonite was so confused after so many Outrages that it hit itself!!! This was my chance to land one final decisive blow!! And thus I became the new champion of the Indigo plateau

It is in HeartGold after you beat Red it’s in the Embedded Tower. You’d need Groudon from Soul Silver to also get Rayquaza to show up there.

Jeez, some of these seasons sucked, but they have some pretty good themes (Except for Megaforce, it’s almost the exact same as Samurai)

Helpful advice guy tells me to use fire types against the gym leader. Gym leader has two water types and a ground type. This is why I am worried for my country. Also, I am kind of confused as to why-with Pryce being the 7th gym leader- is the gym leader so underleveled. I mean Jasmine’s Pokemon were all higher level than Pryce’s Pokemon and she is the gym leader before him.

Well my friend and I were debating Lugia’s type and well… Psychic works for it.
Reasoning: Well you say lives in the ocean means must be Water. FALSE! Stunfisk lives underwater, but he’s not Water type. It causes storms, but I found out why this can justify Psychic. Think of all Lunar Pokémon (or ones affiliated with the Moon. Lunala, Cresselia, Lunatone, ect.) Well what causes the tide? Lunar phases and the Moon. And Lugia controls the tides and creates waves and storms.
So as theory can go. Lugia draws lunar power to cause waves/storms which is a justifiable reason for Psychic type. Also Ho-Oh changes its wing colors using the sun, so isn’t it plausible Lugia could draw power from the Moon (aka the opposite of Ho-Oh and opposite of the Sun)
So even if though it could be Water. Well Psychic doesn’t make that little of sense after all

I am playing Silver and it is a blast. Gold was my first Pokémon game and what got me into the franchise. However back than I didn’t know as much about Pokémon as I do now so I really underutilized the game. So far I ended up using a team with Pokémon that I wouldn’t have tought of back then because they were either to hard to catch and didn’t appeal to me. It has been nearly 15 years since I plated the game, so the fresh perspective is also part of the appeal.

USUM is not even released so we have at least 1.5 years of gen 7 and they’re already bringing Solgaleo, Lunala into the plot. Like seriously they’re pacing the plot up big time.

When i was writing my XY journey Binacle was the most difficult to animate
although i was a little proud of the idea of them flinging each other off their stone and latching onto the opponent so it could attack in different places at once, also a cool handstand maneuver that it flipped over and used its rocky base to block attacks

So my fangame will buff each gen 7 bug mon and Masquerain
Masquerain gets a flying type Water bubble and a small stat boost, Araquanid gets a small stat boost along with the moves Recover, Aqua Jet, and a new move called “Bubble shield” Vikavolt gets quiver dance and no guard as a hidden ability, Golisopod’s ability is edited so it heals 25% when it switches out of battle and the player can choose if they want to switch out on the first turn Golisopod , Ribombee will get some more coverage
Quiver dance Vikavolt will be broken ……then ppl will call it “Bug Bug”
It honestly won’t be too amazing but it’ll definetly make it good, like RU

They are a pain, especially when trading online is no longer possible (pre-gen 6 now). Until I was finally able to go online in gen 5 I barely used trade evolvers. I had my brother to trade with from gen 2 onwards when we got separate games, but until it became built in wireless it was just annoying. Even until recently I couldn’t really try and get people to help me do them due to either not trusting anyone or social anxiety. I don’t necessarily want them removed, but an alternative method that is like Ability Capsule or a bit cheaper in BP could be nice.

Combo attacks should be kept to anime and fanfic because they sound like a terrible game mechanic tbh
But for Lycannight, using the energy gained from Counter in order to throw the enemy in the air and impale with a Stone Edge
Or a more nimble Pokémon using Rock Climb on its own Stealth Rocks in order to have amazing maneuverability

Lycanroc builds up energy and creates towering stone spires from Stone Edge and uses Rock Climb to scale them in a nimble fashion
Would probably work with Midday best, seeing as it’s the fastest form of the OG two (and we don’t know if Dusk is any faster or slower)
Also, way less flashy combo but a Pokémon trapping the opponent with a move like Bind or Whirlpool before setting of a high risk/reward move like Hyper Beam or Explosion
Golisopod using a priority move like Aqua Jet to crash into the opponent, using Metal Claw to dig into it, and then unleashing a hellish Hyper Beam up close and personal with its prey unable to do jack

it emerges from my pokeball kneeling quietly and reserved but when the battle begins it vaults forward at blinding speed with a swipe of its claws and slashing the opponent with First Impression, as it fights it lets out hissing screeches as it swings its main claws and its four secondary ones
its dense shell negating any damage whatsoever and blasiting forward with Aqua Jet and finally when it gets you close enough its main claws grab the opponent while the other four dig into the flesh while glowing a eerie red and green color of leech life
My favorite Pokémon to think of in anime style battling is anything that’s fast and gets Shadow Sneak, because melting into the shadows to hit and run over and over until your foe gives up sounds gr8
Another combo would be Dig + Overheat/Lava Plume/Magma Storm to heat the battlefield above (creating a ‘Fiery Terrain’ of sorts) :0
I don’t want to burst your bubble but in Shadow Sneak the user doesn’t melt into their shadows it extends it from their body and travels behind it and strikes

I was thinking more about Ghost Pokémon that are pretty much shadows themselves and could possibly turn intangible, not stuff like Ariados that are pretty much confined to the way the moves described in the game

Pffff nah fam. It’s super easy to learn. I’d never played splatoon before I bought the second one and I’m really enjoying it. Plus they release new guns and maps like every few weeks so it’ll keep on going for a good while. Not to mention there are tournaments and stuff you can compete it. I have both MK8 and Splatoon 2 on Switch and can honestly say I play Splatoon 2 more, which is weird because I love MK8. I’d save MK8 for when you have some extra cash lying around later on down the line.
Thats the thing. I preordered odyssey and figured hey why not get a game for the next month. idk im just so torn cuz i think both will be a blast, and maybe i should get splatoon sooner than later while there are plenty of fans.

I actually thought im going to go for mariokart. I realized in my gut that Ive been looking for one of you to give me a reason for mariokart, and I think thats reason enough. Its a great game, and I can always get splatoon this christmas. But my mind keeps going, “but splatoon and its fanbase thats active noooowwwww….” so Im going to go with splatoon and enjoy the new maps as it gets developed. Mariokart 8 will be the same now as it will be this december.

well ditch that rinky Zubat and get back into Union Cave, go flush out a level 9 one in the lower room, tech it swift and level it to 12 so it gets bite if you’re serious about having a crobat on your team’

i disagree completely. togepi is one of my all time favorite pokemon, has been growing up. it has a wide variety of moves it can learn via tm and considering you can clone the tms its no big deal to set a togepi up with them.
