Ash Hat Pikachu Event

  • Quick reminder that the Original Ash Hat Pikachu is available via Mystery Gift until tomorrow (September 25th) using the code PIKACHU20. This Pikachu wears the original hat Ash wore in the anime while traveling through Kanto and Johto, and comes with the moves Thunderbolt, Quick Attack, Thunder and Agility. Remember, you can only choose one of the Ash Hat Pikachu via this method. More details on the Ash Hat Pikachu distribution can be found on its dedicated post

Marshadow Distribution

  • For those in Europe, more distribution details have been revealed:
    • Belgium – September 30th to October at the GameForce event
    • Netherlands – October 7th & 8th at the 1st abd Firstlook event
    • Spain – Amazon Spain will be distributing codes for Marshadow alongside pre-orders for Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon

Pokkén Tournament DX

  • Special codes to get clothes for your in-game avatar have been revealed via multiple official channels! These codes work across all regions, are redeemable through the Special Code feature of the game, and come in pairs – one code for masculine style avatars, and one for feminine style avatars:
    • TC2JY22VBQUU (M) & J7XEEQLYNDMT (F) – These codes provide 20 T-Shirts, one for each playable Pokémon in the game, minus Shadow Mewtwo
    • NQLMEMRGX37X (M) & 6GSSALLDM9RL (F) – These codes give the player leather jackets

Takara Tomy USUM Z-Ring Toy

  • New images have surfaced online showing three new Z-Crystal attachments used with the Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Takara Tomy Z-Ring toy that will be available at its release on November 17th. The red Z-Crystal appears to be Lycanium Z, while the yellow Z-Crystal is most likely representing Kommoium-Z. Based on its purple color it’s safe to say that the middle one is related to a Ghost-type – most likely Mimikyu when looking at USUM’s first trailer. This is evidence to suggest that even more exclusive Z-Moves will be revealed for, and be available in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon

Pokémon The Movie: I Choose You!

  • More international show timings have been added for the 20th Anniversary film on the official Fathom Events website! Book your tickets while you can – theaters are filling up quickly!

Pokémon Sun & Moon Anime

Pokémon GO

  • GO is being updated to Version 1.45! This update shows items received from Gyms and completed Raid Battles in the Journal, better search capabilities – allowing to search for Defenders and Legendary Pokémon – and other various bug fixes including models and icons not appearing
  • A special, free “GLOBAL GOALS” T-Shirt is now available in game. This T-Shirt shows support for the United Nation’s Global Goals campaign and follows on a promise Niantic had made in association with Global Goals to create even more PokéStops across the globe

Pokémon Duel

  • The mobile game has begun its first Team Battle Event! Team Battles have you and other players select a team and open up Time Booster and win battles to earn points. You can increase your points and Team Powers by using Booster Enhancers. The team with the most points wins a Rare Metal while the lowest ranked receives an extra Team Power

Pokémon Shuffle

  • A special Shiny Ho-Oh will be given to Shuffle players upon checking in
  • A brand new Pokémon Safari that includes Unown N, Unown I, Unown C, and Unown E is available until September 26th 2017
  • Special stages for Chikorita (Winking) (available until September 26th), Lugia, Meganium and Typhlosion (all available until October 3rd) have begun repeat runs

  10. Ok so many things I want to say about this weeks stuff. First once agin that new USUM poster is so FIRE. Love it. Second that Mimikyu Plush is totes amazing. I’m not sure what I want more, The regular one or the Shiny one. third I LOVE the Sentret and Furret plushes!!!! They’re of my favorite Johto mons so I’ll definitely want to get them if I can! And finally HOLD UP they released ACTUAL CARTRIDGES FOR gs IN JAPAN?!?!?!?! Now THAT is hot. I’m so jelly. That said I still have my original Silver cartridge so I suppose I’m not too sad hahaha

  12. Ok so frustrated…..How is it possible my Red version cartridge still has a good enough battery to hold a save, but my Silver doesn’t……? If Silver had a good save I might just forego buying the VC versions and just play the old school cart……

    Doublade, Dedenne, Amaura, Pancham, Talonflame & Skrelp

    – Tauros and Mienfoo at the daycare

    – Lapras/Snorlax/Flabebe/Goomy which I’m not currently using..

    May consider Noivern or Klefki

  20. I think we will find out who the third crystal belongs during the event on this Friday. Anyone else agrees or disagrees? Also I have returned back to my university after my surprise break. I am about to challenge the 4th gym leader in Silver and my team is Quilava, Jigglypuff, and Heracross (all level 25). Although you might as well consider it a team of the first two; I found out after facing Silver that Heracross can barely do anything against ghost types right now, even one that it is 10 levels higher than. For me, I feel like this one will be more difficult than the 3rd gym.

    But I’m still sad that all my replays are all gone forever…they might comeback in a month or several

  27. I hope that in USUM we get to battle against Lusamine using Nihilego in battle, and then if Mother Beast still happens, we fight that.

    Also Guzma with Phero/Buzz depending on the version

    The Pokemon Movie is coming to the UK, It will be the first Pokemon movie I can see at the theatres!!! I didn’t think it would come im soooo hypeddddd!!!

          • Yeah, but it was horrible. Gamefreak would probably give us a cool ass looking pyramid that’s “under construction” during the main story. Then we come back in the post game to see if we can go inside and it’s still blocked off so they don’t have to make an interior.

          • ??? The Eiffel tower ripoff (Frances equivalent to the pyramids pretty much) was a centerpiece of Kalos’ biggest city and a had a function?

            There’s being rightfully critical and being pessimistic asf fam

          • Obviously I’m exaggerating here. You don’t need to hear my criticisms of their last two generations. It would go on for a while. The point being that I personally feel creatively Gamefreak peaked in Gen 5.

            Like seriously Kalos is a beautiful region and so many french themes and inspirations are present!!

        • They may have a ton of culture, but like 50% of them are undeveloped. What would the region even feature? Crippling starvation and dirt? Maybe that’s insensitive, but honeslty do you really think Gamefreak would base multiple games on countries in Africa? There have hardly been 10 black people across 7 generations of pokemon

          • But nobody said that there had to be multiple Africa regions in the first place? He literally said Egypt, a country in Africa that isn’t even majority black and is isn’t a third world country. It’s you who brought up the rest of africa and the problems that brings. Just because we got NY doesn’t mean we’re getting all of north America and just because we got Kalos doesn’t mean we’re getting a Pokéurope

          • Err…that’s literally what you compared it to. I said I’d rather have a whole region based on Africa, and you said that they wouldn’t do that because there are so many countries in Africa, and Gamefreak tends to do one country a region. I’m going off what you said.

          • No what I’m saying lol is that Egypt has enough culture to itself that it doesn’t need to be crammed with other countries with their own cultures and customs which would feel odd considering Egypt had some of the most iconic mythology and ancient culture I’m the world and putting that together with other completely different cultures is dumb

          • Alright, I suppose that could work. My main qualm I suppose would be the diversity of geography that a just egypt region would allow. Sorry if I misinterpreted what you said

          • They could have various geographical locations inspired by other areas of Africa and base the main mythology on Egypt I guess. Egypt isn’t all Desert but around 90% is so I can see your point.

          • Yeah see that’s kinda what I was going for. I’d like Mt. Kilimanjaro and Madagascar to be represented at some point in a pokemon game.

  40. So, the new OK KO does some worldbuilding (I guess) in revealing that Dendy (a classmate of KO’s and a character from a previous episode) is a kappa. They also reveal that kappas don’t have POW cards (Basically, a little profile on a hero showing their strengths, weaknesses,and a number indicating how powerful they are) because of the rumors spread about them that have become mainstream.It’s pretty cool to see that and very thought provoking.

  42. I just need USUM to announce the updated Post Game please. Every third game has had an better battle facility post game. Cmon usum don’t make this the only one without it! Pleeease. I don’t just want more trainers in battle tree!

  47. How did IGN give HGSS an 8.5? Wtf were they smoking? The only downsides to it are the meh story and the grind curve. Is that really worth a -1.5 when you account for all of the other things they stuffed into that game?

    • game reviews are pretty useless anyways. You have an overworked reviewer who has 3 games they have to review in a week and doesn’t have the time to give an in depth look at the game to tell you if it is actually worth buying or not.

    • Considering the level curve and story heavily effects the entirety of the main game and that’s what you’ll be spending a heavy amount of your playtime into…. Yes? Especially because it’s a terrible level curve across two regions, not just one, and a subpar story in one and none in the other region

          • Def apples and oranges, Famitsu and IGN are different mediums (Famitsu still uses magazines Iirc, not sure about their online presence), different cultures, and different individuals. There’s also the fact that it’s a common opinion that BW has a strong main and post game even with its lack of side features and the fact it wasn’t really innovative outside of narrative

      • The story part is just my opinion honestly, I just don’t find the story to be good. I’m not even sure if they mentioned that. But the grind curve is definitely unfortunate.

          • Saying a pokemon game suffers from a lack of story is like saying Mario suffers from a lack of story. It isn’t needed. Half the reason I’ve played HGSS so many times is because I’m not bogged down with unskippable cutscenes and text where I’m mashing A

          • The difference being Mario doesn’t usually try to say it has a more complex story than ‘save Peach’ whereas Pokémon’s structure requires a slightly more complex narrative that they tried and failed to make interesting (imo)

          • I often make stuff up myself as I play and engage with it that way. If I should have to or not due to story quality in general doesn’t factor in so much for me. Personally I a fine with the story we have on most, if not all of the games.

          • But they weren’t really trying? Most of the plot comes down to loosely connected mini stories where you have to stop Team Rocket or help an Ampharos. It isn’t trying to be a complex narrative. I honestly think it works in pokemon’s favor to just let you explore and catch pokemon. You dont have to be told to do something because players already want to

          • It is trying tho, if they weren’t trying it could’ve just been ‘go gyms get badge fight champ’ seeing as Team Rocket didn’t greatly dictate plot flow at all except act like a gate to Blackthorn, but they attempted to convey a narrative that they imo failed to make interesting and thus should be criticised for

          • No? X and Y is an attempt to create a narrative. Sun and Moon tried to create a narrative (though i think this one worked way better)

            HGSS has Oak and Elm telling you to go do a thing and get badges and thats it. Sun and Moon has people telling you to go to the festival , then the trainer school, then the dock, then the trial site AND THEN the next island and so on.

            in HGSS you just go. They add in little things like Team Rocket to spice it up and add variation so it doesn’t get repetitive. You don’t see characters standing around talking about how mean team rocket is for 10 minutes before something happens.

            The only reason they add this stuff in is to make it interesting. It isn’t trying to tell a 40 hour epic. Its just to change it up

          • Team Rocket is still an attempt at making a narrative, and it’s still bad. Whilst it might be there to spice it up, they’re ultimately imo a failed attempt. And ultimately, tbh, they’re underutilised so much it does end up feeling repetitive anyway because the fact that unlike Mario, traveling is separate from core gameplay, and thus needs to be spiced up via narrative – which HGSS desperately needs because the gameplay already suffers due to the bad level curve affecting gameplay.

            XY does have a narrative, it’s just basic and also deserves criticism.

            It doesn’t need to be a fourty hour epic to have a good narrative. Black and White probably has one of the shortest and linear main games in Pokémon, but it’s also regarded as the best from a narrative standpoint. In the meanwhile, HGSS suffers both narratively and from a game design standpoint because of the God awful levelling curve that they could’ve take the initiative to fix.

  64. What are some of your favorite shiny experiences? I still remember the pride I felt when I found my shiny Sawsbuck after over 4,000 encounters in White. One of the only times that a shiny hunt has actually paid off.

      • I still have never found a shiny in the Gen 3 games (or Gen 2 for that matter, if HGSS don’t count). Bad luck I guess, because I’ve played those games over and over many times.

      • Shiny Beedrill and Shiny Mega Beedrill are great.

        You should get into Masuda Method breeding if you really want more and have a bit of patience.

        • Meh I’ve tried sadly I have never completed a full National Dex (or full Alola Dex) so I can’t have the charm benefit

          I’ll find another one, I’ve actually tried Masuda Method but gave in to the tediousness of hatching Skitty (wanted a ☆ Male Skitty to name it Jibanyan) and sorta went after Magikarp and Hakamo-o when trying for other stufc

          • Well Alola ‘dex in SuMo is only 300 which is far easier than it was to get Shiny Charm in gen 6. Not that you need it. I really recommend you try to do the Magikarp Switching Method. Also if you end up with a female you can try Egg rejection to re-roll the calculation that decides its’ gender, though this may only work a few times before it will no longer be shiny.

          • Don’t forget Masuda Method works with anything in the same egg group and/or Ditto. Foreign Ditto are easy enough to get. Since Skitty is in the Field group it should be easy to find a foreign Male of another Field ‘mon to breed it with. It’s also in the Fairy group, so something like a Pikachu would work. I find Ditto better for the switching method.

            I’m the guy who gets majority of female breed eggs, Two of my starters have been female (Torterra and Primarina), I got 6 female Komala eggs when breeding for a Male to name it Buster Moon

          • That’s a good point, male might be harder to breed for. Still egg rejection should work once you know where the shiny is.

            Often I think the RNG plays around with the gender ratios.

  72. Well I am going to call it a night. Cleaning my fridge post-hurricane sucked. Afterwards I had to do my homework without Internet because it was down-due to the Hurricane. Well I am lucky that the house wasn’t blown down. Now I have to try to sleep without a functional AC. Also here is where I am at in my Silver VC run.

    About to enter Olivine City. Jigglypuff has really been the MVP of the game. It was able to solo Miltank (even though my Jigglypuff was a male) and steamrolled though 2 of Morty’s Haunters and his Gengar. I honestly can’t wait until my Mom buys something useful in the game-such as the MOONSTONE instead of a doll-so I could have a almighty Wigglytuff.
