Weakness Cup Announced for Sun & Moon

Ready for a new challenge to take on in Pokémon Sun & Moon? The Weakness Cup has been announced and requires players to create a team of Pokémon that have 5 or more weaknesses! Some of those Pokémon considered too frail for normal usage may just get their time to shine. That’s not all though–players will also earn Ampharosite, Altarianite, Latiosite, and Latiasite Mega Stones if they participate in 3 or more battles! That means Mega Ampharos, Mega Altaria, Mega Latios and Mega Latias can be yours to use in Sun & Moon! The official site shares more details about the competition:

Registration for the Weakness Cup begins Thursday, July 20, 2017, at 00:00 UTC. The competition goes from Friday, July 28, at 00:00 UTC, until Sunday, July 30, at 23:59 UTC. Trainers will be limited to 15 battles per day.

It is also worth noting that according to Serebii.Net the battles will actually be double battles, not single battles.

Be sure to hit up the link for all the rules! May the WEAKEST Pokémon… WIN!

  1. Didn’t they announce Sun and Moon information updates a week or more in advance? If so, why haven’t we heard that yet? Is it too much to ask to hear ANYTHING at all in July? I’m sure it will be next week because they’ll want to match Corocoro…unless they’re skipping this month. Which shouldn’t be possible.

    • I wanna say we heard something about every two weeks. So they’d announce something is coming and then two weeks later(ish) they’d reveal what it was. It’s very odd that 4 months away we still don’t have an info day announced. I wonder what the hold up is. Even if USUM is basically like Platinum you’d think they’d have enough to show off for at least once a month.

      • I don’t think people realize just how soon these games are coming out. It’s a similar timeframe that Switch games have had this year (ex: MK8D and ARMS, only a few months from release). So there’s definitely a way to cohesively describe the meaningful additions to this game, which must exist because at this point I do not feel as hyped for USUM as I was with Platinum and B2W2. I want them to change that.

          • That would make sense, but historically it’s not the Game Freak way. It’s clear that they’re trying a new strategy this year with two big release days this year, September 22 and November 17. I think there isn’t much more to be said about Pokken and Gold/Silver, so they should be focusing on advertising USUM much better than they have at this point. I don’t know, I’ve just noticed changes this year.

        • I think the problem is that we really don’t know anything about them yet. It’s hard to get excited about a game you know nothing about. Plus in this case we’re in a spot where people were hoping for something different. People (myself included) were hoping that if we revisited Alola again it’d be a brand new story. That or a DP remake…….Either way right now it almost feels like this is a reg 3rd game and that doesn’t jive with me. I’ll hold out for more info, but I really hope they can make these games worth buying. I’d prefer not playing through SM only to have Necrozma forms shoe horned in. lol

          • I’m pretty sure that the way they’ve talked about the game is fundamentally flawed. I’m pretty sure it will have a new story but run through the same characters, with some new additions. I really do think it will be a 50/50 split between Platinum and B2W2 in terms of dual release, new forms, and slight improvements overall.

          • I hope so. I loved SM, but since it was so story heavy I really don’t want to ruin my original journey in Alola by basically playing through it AGAIN, but just with different Pokemon and a slight different ending. If I wanted to play that story again I’d just replay SM lol

    • If we don’t get anything early July then that means they’ve only got four months to get info…. And if they space their info out, we might not actually get much info… :0

  3. Hey y’all, so I haven’t been posting comments recently because I haven’t felt too well yesterday and today. I picked up a sickness yesterday and since then I’ve been resting basically in bed all day, so I’ve been away from my phone. Should be better either on Friday or Saturday.

  5. Anime spoilers

So Lana got the Waterium Z and Ash didn’t. In fact, Popplio pretty much solo’d Totem Wishiwashi, whilst Pikachu only took care of the Ally Alomomola.

Guessing that means that Ash isn’t getting a water type this region, and it also gave best girl some spotlight so yay! Kinda said Popplio didn’t evolve but it got a new move which is the second best thing tbh

Also they acknowledged Megas exist ?

  6. With all the stuff going on for me right now, I completely forgot that we even had a Splatoon 2 direct until just now. I’m not expecting much, just show me a cool new ranked mode and I’m good.

    • I hope they show a mode or two not in the first game tbh, Splatoon had some really cool game modes but we only have 4(?)

      Reply
      • Yup, 4. Salmon Run looks cool and all, but I want new modes where teams of players face off against each other, not against AI.

        Reply
        • I’m just wondering what other modes we could have tbh?

          We have

          Zone Control (Capture Zones)
          Payload (Tower)
          Capture the Flag (Kinda Rainmaker)
          And something unique (Turf War)

Maybe something like a more traditional CtF? Where both teams have one and stuff?

          Reply
          • I actually had typed that I wanted a traditional CTF mode in my original post, but deleted it because I thought it’d be too close to rainmaker. I think we should get a CTF mode with specially designed CTF stages so chargers aren’t OP in that mode.
