Pokémon President Makes Possible Reference to Stars & Riddler Returns

Pokémon Company CEO and President Tsunekazu Ishihara sat down with Toyo Keizai for an interview about Pokémon GO as well as the upcoming Nintendo Switch console. The most interesting thing to come out of it is what he says about development for the main game series:

そのため、ポケモンをスイッチへ出すとしたら、これまで通りのやり方ではいけない。私たちはポケモン本編以外にも、格闘ゲームの『ポッ拳』やダンジョンRPGの『不思議のダンジョン』などの派生タイトルを作っている。それらの中で、スイッチに適合しやすいものから順番に対応していこうと考えている

Essentially they’re considering ways to bring Pokémon onto the new console, from the main series to spin-offs (Pokkén and Mystery Dungeon are mentioned directly). He also says that they must change the development process that they’ve used up until now.

Definitely could be nod towards rumors about a Pokémon Sun & Moon follow-up title coming to the Switch later this year, but he finishes the interview saying that they have nothing new to announce at this time.

In other news, the Chinese Riddler has re-surfaced and resumed posting about Pokémon goods. He teased fans to guess what 3 mystery Pokémon were hidden in this merchandise set:

‘Pokémon Day’ is on Monday, February 27 and could bring some major Pokémon news with it! Remember… Sun & Moon had their reveal at this time last year! Thank you for the tip Jynx (although she wasn’t part of translation).

  1. Today was the most stressful school day of the year, by far. A quiz, an in-class essay, and a test in that order. I’m also not confident that I did well on any of them because I had to worry about all three at once. With that said, the Switch is like a blessing. I know I’ll make it through somehow so I can get the future of Nintendo in my hands. Maybe I’ll swallow my pride and finish TPHD this weekend…there’s no way I could enjoy that anyway…

    • Thats terrible I remember my worst day of the year so far (it actually was Tuesday) I had 2 major chapter tests in Math and History, the next day I had to worry of my German Test, had to turn in my critical paper that day and if I fail it I get an F for my third marking period, Go to 2 consecutive clubs back to back (I didn’t go till later to the second one though)

But yeah your day did sound sh*tty hope you love the Switch!

    • Who the frack cares, that day should be dedicated to Zelda and Zelda alone
I truly cannot wait to venture out and explore every inch of this living breathing world, I will wander through the thickest Forests, dive deeper into any body of water, scale the tallest peaks and trudge through the longest desert, and all in pursuit of excitement and bewilderment because I truly believe this is just not a simple game, it is a world… A world endowed with feeling and life, it truly feels alive.

      • This how I feel too. And after I completed Zelda 100% there’s Horizon and Persona 5 waiting for me so I won’t miss the VC much until later this year.

    • This could be a good thing, emphasis on the could. Maybe this means that instead of dripping it out slowly over the console’s lifetime that they’re preparing a larger library or something, who knows.

  2. I really hope some new alolan form will be introduced in Stars. Here are some of my ideas:
    Alolan Ponyta (Electric) ->
    Alolan Rapidash (Electric/Dark)
    They needed to survive storms.
    Normal Spearow ->
    Alolan Fearow (Dragon/Flying)
Magic energy from the Dragon Trial affected Spearow when it was evolving.
    Alolan Farfetch’d (Flying/Fighting)
In alola sticks that Farfetch’d eat are diffrent. They affected the strenght of Farfetch’d, making them better at flying and battling.

Do you have any new Alolan form ideas?

    • Well I was going to throw lvls. In later but for Fire you have
      Ponyta
      Flareon
      Houndour/Doom
      Slugma
      Larvesta
      Salandit
      Litwik or R. Lampent
      Possibly Heatmor
      Obsiditer (The Rock/Fire Raptor Fossil)
A still unnamed Fire type Rabbit

      You can have 3 Pokémon

      • I was just thinking because Level determines evo stage.
        I think I’ll have these 3:
        Obsiditer
A still unnamed Fire type Rabbit
And Houndoom unless Ultron picked it in which case I’ll go with R. Lampent.
What is R. Lampent like anyway?

        • He didn’t choose so your good but its actually based on Street lamp and instead of feeding on life energy they have adapted to Feeding on Electricity trying to combine old oil lamps and new Electric ones making it Fire/Electric

  4. LISTEN UP PEOPLE I HAVE SOMETHING TO ANNOUNCE!

Last night I went to Gamestop (to preorder the archer link amiibo to pick it up with BotW, but they were all out, sadly), and they had their switch display up, not the actual console or anything but the boxes and stuff. For one thing, the Nintendo section is now at the front of the store, for whatever reason. Second thing, the joycon boxes were TINY. Like seriously, if the boxes were that small then the joycon must be minuscule. And the game boxes were also really small, but I like the change. Imagine a cross between a 3DS case and a Wii U case, but thinner, and that’s a switch game case size.

Nothing too major but it was pretty exciting for me.

      • I opened one up and saw the size of the game holder thingy, and it’s also small compared to the cases. However, the cases look much larger online because compared to the tiny game holds thingy, they are big.

I don’t think I’m explaining this correctly. I’ll just say trust me they’re small.

        Reply
      • Nah, they are fine. At one point you can’t make the case smaller, it has to have a certain size for it to handle well (distribution, box art attractiveness,…) and to not lose it easily. The amount of plastic ‘wasted’ is also quite small compared to some other industries, since most people retain their cases. There’s a lot less plastic going into garbage dumps compared to food packaging for example.

        • I know, I’m just comparing it to the WiiU cases, which were good size because of the discs being much larger. I think they could still shrink them though, and make them the size of the 3DS cases.

          Reply
          • I think they made them rectangular so it still has this home console feel, while also differentiating from DS/3DS cases. I feel like they hit a sweet spot for the cases, I still like to display them on my bookshelve.

    • Well, from the images and videos about the switch that I’ve seen, the joycons don’t look tiny but that must be an optical illusion but the boxes look extremely big not small .-.

  5. Question:
What do you guys prefer Z moves or Megas?

Personaly, Z moves are miles better than Megas. Z- moves arent as game changing as megas, meaning if your opponent has a z move it doesnt mean it just lose, but with megas you lose if they have a mega you cant counter. Z moves just look cooler than megas. Lastly, Z-moves are more shocking than Megas. If you see a pokemon that can mega you can guess it will mega. Z moves you never what Z move it has or what pokemon can use it.

  8. Finally beat Final Fantasy 15. Such a great game. I know it gets a lot of flak for the issues I know it has, but the story is great and all the characters are likable and relatable. I’m satisfied with how it ended very much so. lol

          • Maybe at some point I will. I always have a hard time going back to older games due to having an attention span that fits today’s video games more hahaha

    • I’m gonna play that over summer, along with Horizon. I won’t have time to play those this spring, and since they aren’t high priority for me, that’d be a good time to play them.

      • Same here. Bought FFXV at launch but I rather wait out, since they are planning to improve lots of things by patches so it’s better to wait. I really should stop playing 20+ hours games.

        Reply
        • I would have waited, but I didn’t want to have to choose between the new Zelda game and FF15 at all times. It’s a lot to handle so playing concurrently with another open world game would have fried my brain lol I’m interested to see the extra chapters tho so I may jump back in at some point to play those.

          • How much time do you have to spend in the game if you skip all the fat and just go for all the essential main quests?

          • Probably not much. I got to 73 hours, but I did basically all the quests and side things. Even then I didn’t do it all. I’d say it’s probably a 30ish hour game. Altho it’s hard for me to remember exactly where I was level wise once I got to the point you would be on the fast track to the end. By the time I hit the level range for all the monsters and enemies in the end game I was still grinding and doing side quests in the open world part.I really wanted to clear things out as best I could before moving on. I will say you’ll wanna be somewhere in the 40’s for the end. Otherwise you may get bodied by some bad guys. Maybe even 50, but that’s being on the safe side. It all really depends on how you want to play. Going in slightly under leveled will give you more challenge, but you may also find yourself in a tough spot in some places. On the other hand you’ll spend a lot of time grinding and doing the quests if you want to go in above more of the enemies. Tis the kind of game it is I suppose lol

          • Yeah, I definitely get what you mean. As long as it isn’t too boring, I love long games. I feel like for many games as soon as they start getting really good they end.

          • I like long games, but it’s hard to find the time and effort to complete them though. I just get discouraged when I think about completing them :P.

      • It’s god, but it really is what you make of it. It has plenty of flaws, but they really add to it’s charm. You also have to be ok with open world style games and being self reliant for a big chunk of it. There’s tons of quests and side stuff to do so it can keep you busy if you really let it. I put about 73 hours into it and I really don’t regret any of it lol

        • It’ll actually be my first FF game lol, but the series has always mildly interested me, and despite some mixed reactions from fans FFXV has peaked my interest.

And yeah I love open world

          • I’d say it’s a good first game to play in terms of FF. It’s not hard to get a grasp on the combat system and there’s plenty to do or not do depending on your tastes. I think one of my favorite things about it is that I kind of like the idea of role playing as the characters and making up little head canons for them as I do the sides quests. It really makes each persons play through different lol

    • Truly it is a wonderful game and well worthy of baring the FF name to it. And yeah I’ll be the first to say that its problems are pretty grading and kind of keep it around the middle of my FF game ranks, but it is a wonderful game with some much loved characters that I’m actually curious to see if SE will do with future updates and the high chance of them making Cameo’s in the KH series.
