Pokémon President Makes Possible Reference to Stars & Riddler Returns

Pokémon Company CEO and President Tsunekazu Ishihara sat down with Toyo Keizai for an interview about Pokémon GO as well as the upcoming Nintendo Switch console. The most interesting thing to come out of it is what he says about development for the main game series:

そのため、ポケモンをスイッチへ出すとしたら、これまで通りのやり方ではいけない。私たちはポケモン本編以外にも、格闘ゲームの『ポッ拳』やダンジョンRPGの『不思議のダンジョン』などの派生タイトルを作っている。それらの中で、スイッチに適合しやすいものから順番に対応していこうと考えている

Essentially they’re considering ways to bring Pokémon onto the new console, from the main series to spin-offs (Pokkén and Mystery Dungeon are mentioned directly). He also says that they must change the development process that they’ve used up until now.

Definitely could be nod towards rumors about a Pokémon Sun & Moon follow-up title coming to the Switch later this year, but he finishes the interview saying that they have nothing new to announce at this time.

In other news, the Chinese Riddler has re-surfaced and resumed posting about Pokémon goods. He teased fans to guess what 3 mystery Pokémon were hidden in this merchandise set:

‘Pokémon Day’ is on Monday, February 27 and could bring some major Pokémon news with it! Remember… Sun & Moon had their reveal at this time last year! Thank you for the tip Jynx (although she wasn’t part of translation).

  1. Also, along with the plushies for the upcoming Pokemon movie, I saw this on Serebii several days ago:

It’s a TGC set for the upcoming Pokemon movie. Even if its just showing it off and its not a part of anything in particular, I find it strange that Necrozma, out of all legendaries, is in this set. It’s rather odd, but I think it might hint that Stars is coming out later this year.

  2. Anyone that really believes that a main series Pokemon game won’t be on the Switch is just silly. At this point I’d say there’s plenty of “evidence” to tell us something is coming and that is likely Stars. I will say that those 3 blank spaces are probably just the Kanto starters. They are to promote a movie about Ash’s beginning part of his journey right? lol

      • Well, I hope you’re proud that I’m going for an all out offensive with only mons I like. No UB’s or Tapu’s. I’m not doing too bad so far. The only trouble I’ve had is Celesteela, the bastard.

    • I fought 4 tapus in a battle at one point. It was nearly instantly over… I slaughtered them terribly and it was glorious

      • Tapu’s aren’t that scary honestly. It’s just annoying to see people use the same mons all the time 😛 I knew people using porygon 2 were common, but it seems like every other person carries one (and I haven’t even found them to be that good, either. They never prove to be an issue)

    • The pokémon I’m having the most trouble with is Garchomp. Then again, I’m not using anything with an Ice attack, Tapu Koko can’t check it well enough and the rest of my mons are RU tier.

  3. So in completely unrelated news; its been revealed that in BOTW you can actually go to the final boss of the game as soon as you beat the tutorial. So it’ll be interesting to see how fast people can do speed runs of the game.

      • Not really. Its still the final boss and you will most likely lose if you do. The game seems to be built around going on your own journey and tackling the final boss when you feel your ready. There is a general story path that you can follow, feeling like a more traditional zelda game, but at the end of the day its up to you to say when you feel ready to fight the big bad.

          • To each their own really then. I’m not a fan of them myself, but I still do find them impressive seeing people find little exploits to move faster or glitch the game and by proxy teaching you how to play better.

    • The GamexPlain guys had a friend over who attempted it, and he got killed with 1 hit. They’re saying the game is actually pretty damn challenging and that there will be ”game over galore”

      • Yup. Listening to their talk right now. But to be fair there are a ton of things that can kill you in one hit. Heck the blue version of those goblin esk monsters nearly one shot you at the start of the game.

        • Indeed and Guardians are apparently the most challenging non-boss enemies in the game or something. I’ll have to wait 2 more months though, not getting the Switch at launch

      • fair enough. Wasn’t really following the game’s coverage, and to be fair it’s kinda easy to embellish the facts of your game at E3.
