Gaming Journalists Let Pokémon Fans Down

Imagine you had knowledge of a brand-new game; when would be the best time to share its existence with people that cared? If you chose “on the day that its predecessor finally arrived 9 months after it was announced”, you might just be a jerk. That’s exactly what Tom Phillips, and gaming site Eurogamer, decided to do on the release of Pokémon Sun & Moon with the revelation that a third game, codenamed Pokémon Stars, was in the works.

Two months and one giant Nintendo Switch press conference later we’re still no closer to learning about whether or not the game exists. Other gaming journalists, eager to capitalize on the buzz about the title, even casually doled “info” on Reddit (yes, I’m referring to Laura K. Dale).

I like rumors. I imagine that most people visiting my site like rumors. What I don’t like is when professional gaming sites build up hype for a title that seems like it will be revealed soon, but ends up being a no-show. With Sun & Moon being announced a full nine months in advance, it wouldn’t be too crazy to assume that we would get a five or six month advance notice of Stars if it was going to be a Summer 2017 release (which was later “pushed back” according to these same sources).

Just because you have information doesn’t mean you need to share it right away. Professional gaming sites (which this site is not, we’re a fansite) should temper expectations and let fans have at least a little enjoyment of a game’s release before they’re bombarded with news about a successor that may or may not exist.

You all may feel different, but I had to weigh in with my disappointment on how the “professionals” have handled things.

  1. Pokedex Entry: ???
    Regional Luvdisc
    Classification: The Rendevous Pokemon
    Height: 2’00
    Weight: 0.04 Lbs
    Typing: Ghost/Flying
    Ability: Love Blessing
    Stats:
    HP: 33
    Attack: 5
    Defense: 35
    Special Attack: 115
    Special Defense: 25
    Speed: 117
    Base Stat Total: 330
Pokedex Entry: This spirit like Pokemon is said to be able to cross to the realm of the dead. A tradition is started where those who have lost loved ones would wade into the rivers and catch Luvdiscs and let them fly into the sky from their hands. It is said to bring their feelings of love to the dead. Important fact; hurting Luvdisc is discouraged as the consequences are said to be disastrous.

Love Blessing: This Pokemon’s stats double if the opponents get attracted. Further attracts raise stats by one stage.

    WHAT HAVE I DONE!?

  3. Golbats are the most annoying Pokemon ever.
In Victory Road, I’m trying to train up my Crawdaunt, and there’s always a Golbat that spawn. And because Crawdaunt is slower, it’s very annoying to take out one, because they love to spam Bite, Wing Attack, and Confuse Ray.

  4. So my boredom makes me create, i feel a slithering hissing from below the earth, Serpentine Ghost Pokemon that dwell in haunting places hoping to sink their fangs into the realm of the living
I want to create a Ghost/Dragon Snake Pokemon that hide in the shadows of the underground (and so happens there is a recently discovered species of the same name, pretty convenient)

Slithysis (Slither and Ecdysis (the process of shredding) WIP
    Ghost/Dragon
    Shed Skin/Regenerator HA: Cursed Body
    The Shedding Pokemon
a very long serpent Pokemon with bone white skin and black rings all on their spines, long streamers of grey pale translucent skin are wrapped around their neck that freely blow about, their heads have a “turban” of wrapped skin wrapped around the top of their heads with no visible eye sockets but a green neon eye light is seen through this shroud, and a pair of extremely long fangs, and a grey plated underbelly
“Whenever a Slithysis is gravely wounded they immediately shed and discard their skin, some say that lost souls inhabit these shed skins and are reborn as a new Slithysis”
“This Pokemon cannot smell, hear or see, it flicks its tongue the air and can taste the location of pokemon nearby”

  5. I find it hilarious that the first shiny I wanted in Sun and Moon was Morelull and yet its probably going to end up being the last fairy I get in S/M.

Also Mimikyu is a pain to SOS chain

  8. MESS, why are people expecting Pokemon stars anytime soon? the game is just rumor after all and not to mention Sun and moon came out just a few months ago ( even though it feels like ages) i’m not expecting pokemon stars till next year. Get ready for pokemon drought again

    • Because the original rumor said that it was developed side by side with SuMo and regardless if it’s a sequel or third version it’ll be recycling a lot of assets. It’d make sense to launch it on Switch year one if Nintendo is serious about making it a must have console because Pokémon is a system seller. It’d make more sense that the Pokémon drought would be 2018 if 2019 is DPP remakes since they have to start from scratch remaking the Sinnoh region.
