Pokémon Mascot Showdown: Generation VII

Hey everybody, due to certain circumstances, we’re bringing you the last regional Mascot Showdown a little bit later! The winner of the last showdown is Xerneas with 53%.
Let’s move on to our last region: Alola. This brand new region is the startpoint for Generation VII – bringing incredible, new features like Trials, Z-Moves, the Battle Royal, Poké Rides, regional variants and so much more!

Pokémon Sun Version

Pokémon Sun featured Solgaleo, the Sunne Pokémon, on its cover. It resembles a more robust white lion design complete with a galaxy motif on its forehead. Its crownlike spikes and its tuffs of fur around its head resemble a sun. Among the people of Alola, it’s known as the beast that devours the sun and has therefore been honored as its emissary.

Solgaleo is the only known Pokémon that can learn the move Sunsteel Strike. Along with Lunala, its counterpart, it’s the only Legendary Pokémon that’s part of an evolutionary line. Not to mention it also has the highest HP-stat of all Steel-type Pokémon. Its name comes from ‘sol‘ (Latin for ‘sun’), ‘Galileo‘ (the man who proved that the Earth rotated around the sun) and ‘leo‘ (Latin for ‘lion’).

Pokémon Moon Version

Lunala, the Moone Pokémon, graced the cover of Pokémon Moon. It’s a large skeleton-like bat whose wings seem to resemble the moon, and are made of the night sky. Much like Solgaleo, it can travel between our dimension and the Ultra Space. Additionally, it’s called the beast that calls the moon, thus gaining the title “emissary of the moon” by the Alolan people.

Lunala‘s signature move is called Moongeist Beam. While Solgaleo is called the male evolution of Cosmog, Lunala is called the female one. Its name derives from ‘luna‘ (Latin for ‘moon’) and ‘ala‘ (Latin for ‘wing’).

  1. Idk if anybody’s discussed this yet, but has anybody else watched the leaked Steven Bomb episodes?? Some really intense moments, and Yellow Diamond singing :O It’ll be interesting to see where the series goes from here.

      • Listen from a guy who pre orders alot, I REALLY RECOMMEND if your not gonna be available to do in-store try checking online alot that day

        • Well if it’s available on Amazon, that’s where I’m going to pre-order it. Otherwise, I’ll see what I can do after my birthday in March (because I doubt I’ll have any more luck before that). I’ll stay up all night on Thursday if I have to.

          • Amazon is where like 90% of people are trying to pre-order, even if they do get the most units, wouldn’t it be better to try and pre-order from a site with a smaller amount of people trying to pre-order?

          • Also I don’t know how exactly I can pre-order online. I don’t have a credit or debit card or anything, and my parents don’t like letting me use theirs and then just paying them physically.

I just realized I have a lot to do by Thursday. -_-

          • I don’t have hundreds of dollars of gift cards to any site, at least for now. One of my options I guess is to put all my eggs in one basket and buy enough in gift cards and try to preorder online, but if I choose wrongly. . .

          • Also I have school Friday and my parents don’t think that the switch will be scarce enough to warrant an all-nighter. ;_;

          • Im doing the same thing actually, I dont need sleep that night i can always sleep after the pre order

    • basic econmic tbh. They will have a low supply to create a bigger demand so in the second wave of switches they try to reach equilibrium

    • Well I suppose that will just be another thing to add to the potential reasons for its failure. Seriously though its kind of amazing that they can blunder things up this much. I mean their’s under valuing something like with Amiibo’s, and then their’s just blatantly bad business like this since a manufactured scarcity is generally a bad thing in the videogame industry, unlike other markets.

      • I mean, it DOES work for them sometimes. Look at the amiibo sales when they were scare, and then look at amiibo sales now. Scarcity generates publicity and also increases number of impulse buys.

        • Yes it does work, but only with certain products. With Amiibo it did work, hence why I said under valuing( the idea of selling a product for less then its believed value to lead to higher sales and thus a higher demand) did work. With consoles though it doesn’t really work so well, mostly because your device is a gate to all other sales of games. Even if their’s a high demand and people want to but the switch; if only 2 million are in circulation then a game’s max sales can be no higher then 2 million, which is pretty bad by game standards these days. Actively limiting the number of consoles you have doesn’t help you in any way in this case. In fact it can be even worse as having a low production line can be seen as a sign that you have little faith in your products success, leading to investors pulling out, or even worse sending the message to your consumers that you don’t have much faith in your product leading to a much small demand after the controlled drought is over, and that’s even assuming people simply don’t refuse to buy the switch on principle like many will if this proves true, or simply find the games don’t appeal to them.

And even that’s all ignoring that if we really wanted to be honest, Nintendo kinda sucks as a company and has been known for decades for making decisions that are either questionable at best, to down right anti-consumer at worst.

          • Well explained.
I do get what you’re saying now, and that makes a ton of sense. But is it better than overshooting demand and having a bunch of units sitting in stores? Won’t companies know the difference between moderate sales with a shortage and moderate sales with overstock?

          • Yes and no. Generally it depends on the circumstances of the product. In this case it would be better to have a large stock and risk having unsold consoles since the loss is mostly to the company at that point. If the console’s not selling well right away it might just need a bit more time on the market, or even a price cut. Both of these were tactics that worked for the 3DS which sold very poorly at launch, but is now one of the best selling consoles ever at around 55 million units before the holiday season.

With having a low stock, you lead to a artificial demand created by the consumer, which years ago might have worked out, but in the age of the internet is far more damaging since all it takes is one retail employee to tell one person with a twitter account to send a message to pretty much every major gaming person to look into it, and thus cause a massive amount of damage to the reputation to the company and lead to a large number of people refusing to ever buy the product, kind of like we saw with that plug and play NES. Once it became common knowledge that even major cities were being sent less then ten of them, people immediately called foul on Nintendo.

With something like the switch, an experimental piece of hardware that nobody knows if they’ll even like, have no idea what its hardware is like, or if it can even serve well as the console it’s being promised to be; the last thing you want to give people a valid excuse to refuse to but it, leading to them either boycotting Nintendo all together, or simply saying that they demand that Nintendo make a proper device for their camp(Handheld or console).

          • I wont lie. Nintendo really does sucks as company. Business wise they have made some awful decision that could easily being fixed

          • I’m not denying that they’ve made questionable, and downright stupid decisions in the past, but I can’t be the only one that thought that Kimishima, a buisnessman, would know better.

  2. Ok so Pyukumuku and Midnight Lycanroc are slowly becoming more effective with each fight (but they’re not without flaws)

more so i love when people forfeit when i toxic half their team and Pyuky’s insane bulk absorbs every blow until they kill it only for innards out to deliver a coup de gras BUT steel and poison ruin its day…even more so with Taunters and Misty terrain

and Lycanroc is just No guard Stone Edges and Countering

  3. So i wanted to issue a fun little challenge
In this crazy crazy world, we as unique carbon based life forms (puny and feeble as we may be) we display a cognitive of personality traits and sometimes some of our favorite fictitious characters share these traits or vice versa
I want everyone (or the few who actually read the paragraph this far before getting bored) to pick 4-5 characters from cartoons, animes, or videogames who describe your core personality
